A dark and noxious matter coming from a corrupted universe has started to infect the Riftborn’s world. To preserve it, they were forced to leave their quiet retreat and enter this toxic place. In their efforts to save weak beings corrupted by Dust they have one strange ally: time.
Let's meet each other!

People were asking for a truly alien race... well they got one.
The Umbral Choir counts as well.
@Kade Prince hmmmm, both of you joined two weeks ago? What a coincidence
Umbral Choir: “Hold my beer.”
hi im the 901th like
Pretty much the only faction who did literally nothing to deserve their suffering
Wait this isn't the United Empire video
None of the factions really did anything to deserve the bad things that happened to them.
Even wholly evil factions like the Cravers, being created by the Endless as war machines, eventually abandoned by their masters.
Even the Vodyani hardly deserved to have evolved on an almost resourceless world, it was probably already stripped almost bare by the Endless since they found Virtual wrecks on their world which led to their uplift and turn to cruelty.
And who the that did, to deserve their suffering?
А кто то что то делала ,чтобы заслужить свои страдания?
The riftborn later: everything will be white shapes
what?
Every chance I can, I try and befriend the Riftborn in all my games. Not only do I just really like their story and aesthetics, but they’re an INSANELY powerful and loyal ally once you manage to get on their good side.
The only problem is terribly slow fleets, if you play for them correctly, then 10,000 industries in your main system are no longer dreams, my favorite faction
I had to blow their fleets up 3-4 times before they chilled out, accepted a truce and a peace deal and shortly after an alliance.
*Unless Horatio. Mmmm… FIDS. 😋
Interdimensional aliens, interesting! Oh and of course the Endless could not be content with screwing just our galaxy, they had to ruin alternate dimensions as well.
EBTcraft15 oh no, it wasn’t the endless, but a ship randomly exploding in space. It happened (relatively) recently. I’m saw it in one of the official ES2 trailers.
I feel like if we delve deeper, we might find out the cause of the rift
The cause was a ship called the Grey Owl. It was an old hissho ship stranded on Auriga, with a damaged dust-powered warp drive. Some denizens of the planet attempted to use it as an escape route, when the warp drive suffered a critical error, blew up with the ship and also tore a hole into Coroz (Riftborn dimension). If I have to guess, the Argosy got thrown out of course by this explosion as well.
@@VandheerOfKazaarn but hasn't there been a similar event with the Endless? NAmely the explosion we see in the Cravers intro
universes*
Who were the artists responsible for that ship design, because I want to buy them several CRATES of beers.
I mean HOT DAMN, that looks nice.
or the one who spent months animating every single individual polyhedron.
No one does art in quite the same way Amplitude does. Plus their soundtracks rock.
yeah they keep upping there level of design and quality
@@francescogreggio6712 I agree, that's their main advantage in comparaison to Stellaris, their art is great
Whole prologue looks like something out of Samsung advertising
Our universe is to the Riftborn what the Warhammer 40k warp is to us.

Getting shamelessly retconned for the sake of pandering to groups that care nothing for the franchise? Makes sense. XD
@@DeathMessenger1988when were the riftborn retconned?
@@erikweltz8187
Do I need to explain the joke? Really?
The Riftborn's original universe is getting contaminated by ours, which DownrankTrain compared to Warhammer 40K's Warp.
Recently, Games Workshop has started retconning stuff like making Female Custodes to pander to people who don't know or care about Warhammer 40K (or anything in general). And this is usually the first step to ruining franchises, just like what happened to Star Wars and Terminator. The true fandom often refers to that as invasions or contaminations.
Got it now?
@@DeathMessenger1988 I knew about the GW stuff, but I guess I took your original comment literally and thought there was some retcon that happened to the Riftborn made to pander as well.
Do you think that the Riftborn could shapeshift into Horatio? Could we make a whole other universe beautiful?
You asking right questions, friend.
After playing the Riftborn and completing their lore quest, I will say that they would rather kill themselves than shapeshift into Horatio lol. The very existence of organic life horrifies them to their very core.
Ok but why is horatio so goddam handsome? Like I ain’t gay or into literal eggheads but horatio makes me sweat profusely
Pocket Bricks you're led to believe he is beautiful because Horatio -_- . egg shaped head does not necessarily mean beauty unless it comes with big money and power
@@brianc4632 The Horatio can forcefully assimilate them, though, and the Riftborn are one of the strongest species to assimilate, right behind the Vodyani and arguably the Cravers.
our worst nightmare the lego army
i laughed harder than i should have
Sebas3n, "We are Lego Duplo, and we're here to destroy you..."
imagine you walk on a riftborn
ow
That's one of their racial abilities: dealing critical damage to bare feet.
An Unbidden guest... oh, wait... wrong game.
Yassss!!!
Unbidden wait WAIT
Now, imagine a story from this video in a Warhammer 40k universe: "Hey guys, remember this Eye Of Terror thing? You know, the most fucked up place in our galaxy. Let's send a colonization fleet right into it! What could possibly go wrong?"
It was literally canon in the first years of rogue trader that there are non imperial human planets within the eye of terror that are also completely uncorrupted by chaos and pretty much do their own thing
@@lior414 Imperium: "The Eye of Terror is literally terrifying! We shudder to imagine what horrors birth out of there to threaten our galaxy"
Some random xenos civilization living there "Ah, such peace and calm"
@@AMabud-lv7hy lmao this exactly
But the warp and reality is closely linked in 40k. These were completely seperated realities altogether.
I read this in Majorkill's voice, for fuck's sake! XD
"Willing to do anything.. to save our own"
Several turns later and there's no one but the Riftborn.
Im gonna need that ost so badly
Syrth91 it's so good.
it gon be good
Seriously... I don't usually buy OSTs for games but... yup
If you don't have it already, check out Endless Legend's OST . I believe it's from the same composer, thought it has a more fantasy-ish theme to it.
Preordered the founder, gonna have it all X)
111% worth the money.
I really like the idea of that other universe, beeging a place of pyre geometry and sentience, bacuase why would all universes follow the same laws of physics. (?)
That spelling is genuinely disgusting.
Just use autocorrect.
@@user-rm1jp6hf5h The irony in your own sentence is truly beautiful.
@@zackmar4449 eh?
@@user-rm1jp6hf5h It is spelled "disgusting", not "discusting".

Now say the spelling mistakes of the original comment.
The fact that the blight are the Umbal choir is so fascinating!
That theme still hits my heart where it counts, even after four years.
Interdimensional beings trying to save their own universe from destruction? Weird but I like them, especially since they remind me of the Harmony.
They are not saving it, they escaped their universe and came into ours, did you not watch the video?
if you play as their faction you will see that they obviusly also try to fix the spread of the corrutpion
Best music, best visuals, most overpowered gameplay.
Godtier.
I agree they are even more OP than Unite Empire or the Vodyani... and their ships are beautiful AND powerful! Definitly my new favorite faction!
What's the songs name
*Proceeds to relentlessly attack my 2 system Sophonity because I was unfortunate enough to spawn in the same constellation"
"...This is so good! There's no way the next faction will be able to be better than this one"
*Next update*
"How, Amplitude? They somehow made this one even better, but now that This is so good, There's no way..."
Every time.
I'm reminded of the Process from Transistor.
The two factions that I actually like because they’re peace seekers are the unfallen and the rift born
The unfallen want to heal the universe while the other factions are so set on tearing the universe apart
And the rift born just want to be left alone in their space
Until you win then the riftborn start to change our universe to their image.
@@Operador2281 And this is compared to the 40ks imperium of mankind, tyrinds lite editions ( humans and cravers )
Rifborn prologue Is too beautiful, I'm crying tears of joy, THANK YOU for this wonderful creation I will savour it forever so, THANK YOU. This is by far the most characteristically and materialistically unique faction in all the ENDLESS UNIVERSE, BEAUTIFUL, THANK YOU, OH GOD OF 4X SPACE STRATEGY GAMES, THANK YOU!!!!
I have to say, I love the creativity with the factions in this game :D
Species 8472, is that you?
Yes, it is.
nice reference xD
damn straight it is, though these guys are more geometric blobs than xenomorph type things. Still respect for making such a reference
These prologues are masterpieces on their own.
Beaucoup de soins et d'originalité dans vos races. Un grand bravo !
Looks like the Harmony was a inspiration for the Riftborn
To this day, this theme song, this species concept.. is still one of my favorite ends of sci-fi media. I would die to see an Endless esc. Mass Effect style game including these different factions. I've always found the factions to be so convincing and so interesting - but I feel like the 4X medium doesn't fully make these factions feel like they've really been fleshed out.
The Endless games have been fun for me over these years, and it pains me to see ES2 and EL on a decline - but the games have a limit of interesting re-playability for most players I feel like. Introducing all of these species/factions into a personal journey would be so fantastic. We know Asari and Salarian's not because we saw some cool art and heard some convincing voices on a flat screen or saw a cool trailer - it's because we talked to them, we met them, we helped and fought along side them. That's what I feel like Endless needs these days.
I think i've fallen in love…
Harmony. Disharmony. Dust. Poison.
FlybyNo did a great job with the soundtrack!
Thank you for the like. This is the track that always makes my hairs stand up!
Everything about this is amazing. Nailing it.
The story sounds nearly identical to *Harmony*, except Harmony were from silicoid planet while *Riftborn* are from entirely different universe
Kǒito_
Other than a blight they are pretty different. The blights are a little different in style too.
As always, art and animation just leaves me wanting to see more and more! Can't wait to see how these guys play.
My absolute favourite faction. The Cultists and Sowers are also pretty great.
The chill man, the chill ....
man thats sad like they lost their home and are outcast
So are the Horatio. So are the Vodyani.
Every faction in this game is sad. Sophons are depressed, lazy sciencists who drown themselves in work to forgot of their irresponsibility. Cravers are intelligent and capable slaves of their own nature looking for purposed. Im sure u ll find something sad on every race in this game.
Paranoia aside the horatio seem to be really happy :P
Isn't Horatio just one outcast dude who cloned himself ad infinitum? Seems pretty sad to me
Horatio's story by my opinion is more gravitating towards being scary than sad.
Imagine yourself this. You kick out a person out of your society. He comes back with a billion of his own clones who do his biding without question and then he together with his clones proceeds to turn everyone including your friends, girlfriend, dog into clones of himself. Someone needs to turn this into a dramatic novel or a movie.
I like the shape people even if they've stabbed me in the back in every playthrough so far.
The music gives me chills.
i have to say i can't wait for them to release the soundtrack of this game as it just sounds amazing so far.
Why would u do this to innocent white legos?!!?
To make them pay for the pain of stepping on a lego brick barefooted!!!
Shit made me cry when I watched it - rooting for them hardcore.
This looks like a perfume commercial
Harmony?
A DLC faction from the First Endless Space
Random Guy. No they Established that the harmony are a part of our universe. This is something else.
Random Guy
Harmony are silicoids, so they are quite normal in our universe.
These guys are from a very different universe than ours...
sean connery Yes I know but this looks based off of the harmony dlc form es1
What if they are the Harmony, but from another universe.
Well if not they are still awesome. Also I'm glad that they are adding factions like this.
Holy balls that looked awesome 10/10
Wow! Gnostic invasion dice!
0:50 gives me goosebumps
god tier 10/10 animation! best of cheers to the animators responsible.
They look SOOOOO Awesome !
Gonna love them really
Daym, I like these guys already.
Any time there's a cool non-humanoid faction, sign me up!
I like this race.
So you mean the endless used dust and it affected these beings inter dimensional?
The original Harmony from ES1 but on Steroids
Welcome to our universe! Enjoy chaos, death, stupidity, horor and cookies.
the prologue has me hyped
excellent music :)
Piece of art
I may enjoy Stellaris gameplay more than Endless Space but I just love the art and species of Endless Space more.
reminds me of the moth bats from endless legend, love it
So beautiful
Composer of all the new OST's and ES 1's OST is FlyByNo, if anyone is wondering. :)
I cri everytime.
......hey don't look at me i'm STONE dry
Blight? Does that mean our universe is the Darkspawn?
Yes, baby! Give me more of this!
The Rift was like a flower.
anyone else thinks that this beat slaps
Amplitude... you're great... even now that you're with Sega. ;)
Illegal aliens in my universe? I don't think so! Looks like it's time to make 'new patriots' out of the Riftborn.
Is anyone watching this even though the game has been released?
I mean, it's so beautiful.
I love this species, I don't know why! Just truly love their ways of doing things
* Sobbing. *
Thank you teacher. Now everytime I open my eye. Everything want to kill me.
This is my favourite faction.
This is the Gnostic creation myth!
Whoaaaa that's really cool!
Their Time Shifting affinity on systems make them seem like the Ardent Mages
This reminds me about this thought experiment in which an expidition, trying to find life on another planet, destroyed the climate for microorganisms that could've developed into life in far future
I'll keep to my Empire and Vodyani :3
Interesting backstory and amazing video but "having to survive" doesn't set a very interesting precedent for the faction's playstyle. Maybe there will be more lore since this is the prologue? :o
I want the Automatons!
Tucker Higgins dont worrie they are the new Automatons :D
holy hell this looks good

chill's.
I just noticed how different these are from the other prologues. They all start off with a negative tone, like fucking their atmosphere, then get positive since they made a big ole space empire, while these guys start off nice and go downhill. Huh.
still waiting for Harmony or Automatons. Still hungry
Love this faction
Endless space 2 meets Astroneer
Epic!
oh wow...a new race! Im liking it already from the ship design and background story. Kind of reminds me of Brexit in space though XD
OHHH MYY GODDD
Skill training complete(c) Aura, Eve
Ah shit... I'm thorn with this. I love the concept, but I don't think I can get behind the visual choices. As shapshifting race from an other dimension, why would they transform into ships with "our universe" type of propulsion and design. They should look nothing like humanoid ships. Everything they are should be foreign to this universe and nothing should b recognizable. I'd rather have them being blobs of white cubes, suddenly shifting into a weapon of some sort to fire, and go back to their form right after.
I feel exactly the same for design. From the start of the trailer I was expecting something like Evangelion 1.11's Ramiel in terms of how they'd look in-game before the actual ship started taking shape. Though the propulsion thing could be explained with them having to play by the rules of Endless universe as the official wiki page mentions they come from an alternate dimension where the laws of physics work completely different.
Haechi It's possible that they stole Endless universe technologies before leaving, since they would have no other idea of what physical laws to expect.
I know and I agree... BUT, a strong concept shouldn't have to be justified by extrapolation. It should stand on its own and not raise questions of basic coherence.
I'd have liked to be the long strings of crystals to be how they also appear in "our" universe, just an endless amount of strings of cubes rotating around each other
We can see it this way. Though they are from another dimension, another universe where fundamental physical laws are completely different from our universe, they are after all coming into our universe through the rift. So this means they need to transform themselves to adapt the laws of our universe such as light speed limitation, propulsion, material property and so on. This is why it looks not VERY foreign.
Now that tale is just sad.
I am curious about the multiplayer aspect of the game. Will I be able to play and explore with my friends? How does multiplayer work in this game?
Is that the voice actress who played Leliana in Dragon Age?!
Pretty sure that's not
