Well, the final quest in the Vodyani questline requires you to occupy the system with Isyandar's Academy. But by then the Vodyani have already forsaken their gods (Virtual Endless). I like the outro where instead of choosing between accepting Isyander's truth or keep following their gods, the Vodyani choose to become Virtual Endless themselves.
It's kinda interesting that the only religious faction upon launch is the one that will not choose the option marked as religious in the academy quest since that means accepting that the Endless carried out a genocide. Also interesting how their main mechanic of harvesting dust resembles the way in which the Endless carried out that genocide, and they also destroyed their home world just like the Endless, they really are just replaying Endless history.

This is just a comment to the prologue videos in general. Every single one of these are some next level stuff, GREAT work. Did not expect so much cinematic quality here, and I am so pleasantly surprised.
Seems opposite to me. ES1 design was unique. It was still pretty much the regular "everyone in the universe looks just like stupid humans from tiny planet Earth, with 2 legs, 2 arms, head on top, talk with their mouths etc", but it had some special flavor to it which was mostly the result of genuinely good design work. Horatio concept with cloning and perfection, emotionless cravers made sense, automatons looked more or less legit.. ES2 design is dumbed down for teens. It all seems to be about fake kids drama and tits everywhere. That's what sells I guess, the amount of huge tits in the frame is proportional to the amount of teens spending money on the game. Clothing @ 1:16 in this video is a classic example of bad design. It's a retarded outfit no one in their right mind would wear, but guys from marketing know too well that their target audience is "males 18-30", and most of those think with their dicks and not brains thus common sense is secondary and sexy outfits are the must. One would hope though that a strategy game set in space would be exempt of this nonsense. Still gonna play the full version, but so far disappointed with design, at least based on these cinematics.
It's different. Every outfit has a purpose. I'm not an expert on religions, but as far as I'm aware they often work through fear and intimidation (among many other things of course). All those cathedrals, rituals and outfits in Christianity, for example, seem to exist in the way they are to humble and suppress simple-minded individuals. An ordinary peasant living in a small dirty shack sees a huge white cathedral with gold and beautiful paintings etc and it seems godly to him, it looks out of this (his) world. In his mind something this big and beautiful just can't be a work of simple men, it has to do something with almighty gods. Thus he's not likely to question his religious beliefs and continues to behave the way his religion told him to behave. Pope's outfit is just a part of that show, he just gotta wear something uniform with his religion's main theme, something awe-inspiring, pure and godly. Same with other religions - their designs (churches, outfits etc) are in line with their main themes, they make sense in relation to what the particular religion is about. All of it looks extremely stupid for educated people today, but it used to work just great throughout the centuries. And here we've got a creature from another universe that looks (surprise!) like a super fit human female with huge tits in an outfit with holes all over the specific parts of the body.. and with a spear! :) So she's sexy and she fights. That's what an average modern society' young male gamer is most interested in: sex and violence. Makes no fucking sense whatsoever to wear something like this (try actually using that spear with an outfit like that, let alone space travel dressed that way), but anyone who's been long enough around design and videogames industries knows that those things are made only to provoke micro-boners and increase sales. It's bad taste and bad design (from the artistic perspective). There's very few games these days made for mature audiences, so it's always sad to see another great franchise going in the teens-oriented direction. Thus the rant. Still gonna check the game out.
Rocco actually, you may miss the idea we know nothing about their culture. But ok, even if it is more or less human-like, as their form, the spear and the outfit may be a symbol. We do not know that "naked" parts' meaning in their context. For example, nobles in till ~18th century got a small rapier as a symbol of freedom. But strange alien could say "oh god just look at the design, can you imagine this man with no muscles actually fighting in this outfit with this metal needle? It's definitely girls-oriented" But i agree that tits are ridiculous, we were shown that they were looking as nothing related to human. Also the shoulders look very similar to cultists', it's at least interesting. Sorry for my mistakes in English, it's not my native language
The thing is, nobles in 18th century weren't doing any space exploring shit. They were living in stone buildings on Earth, built for them by "lower" humans that those "nobles" exploited (peasants, slaves etc). They had too much time on their hands (since most of hard work was done by other people, the ones that weren't nobles) so they've made up a lot of stupid crap like symbols etc - partly because they were just bored and didn't have much else to do, and also because those "symbols" served a purpose - they differentiated nobles from lower classes, which helped to keep the hierarchy where poor and stupid worked their asses off for those nobles. For the same reasons they were wearing ridiculous outfits, wigs etc. And that small rapier could still be a reasonably effective weapon in the 18th century. Heck, even today, in 21st century, knives are often used in close combat on Earth: sometimes they are just more effective than firearms. This all isn't relevant when we're talking about a civilization that is advanced enough for space travel. And especially interstellar travel. The amounts of energy (and technology to get access to that kind of energy) required are so enormous that it simply changes everything. How many "symbols" do our astronauts carry with them? None. You've got your suit, and the equipment to survive in space and complete your mission. Nothing else, no fucking symbols, no "culture" items - those are toys for apes stuck on Earth but not for intelligent species. It's downright stupid to portray a leader of such an advanced civilization with a spear! If they can travel to other stars then they have technology (and weapons) we can't even imagine yet. Putting a spear and an outfit like that on those species... it's bad design. Their only goal was to arouse some young males, that's all. I bought all previous Amplitude games simply because I thought they do an excellent job and should be paid for it. I'm not gonna pay for ES2, at least at first I'll try a pirated copy. Symbols are not primitive stuff appeared just because someone was bored. It's the sign of developped culture. Symbol is the way to express more than an object can say. Cultists of the eternal end, anyone? Their questline literally ends with them taking off into space to spread the word of the eternal end. I'm certainly interested...
To be fair, everyone's questline ends with them taking off into space like that. And canonically speaking it was the Vaulters who actually did it, hence why they're in ES1. But these guys do certainly have a similar feel to them. Which is awesome to say the least. :)
Might be completely and entirely wrong here, but looking at the contrasting halos of the Hierarch and the False Prophet, it looks a bit like they might represent the two different sides of the Endless - the Virtual and Concrete Endless. The square, angular halo of the False Prophet seems more solid and defined, or 'concrete', against the more traditional round, elegant and circular halo of the Hierarch. Maybe the two different sides are mimicking the conflict of the Endless - the desire for ascension to a completely incorporeal form vs regaining their flesh and possessing bodies once more.
I hope the existence of the Vodyani in the game doesn't mean the Broken Lords won't be in ES2 anymore. I really really liked their lore and their playstyle. Broken Lords and the Harmony are just asking to wage war on each other! Here's to hoping Amplitude reads this and ports those two factions into the game.
harmony was my favorite faction in endless space and to be fair, the broken lords in endless space 2 wouldn't make a lot of sense, since the vaulters were the only ones to leave Auriga before it permanently died hence why it's barren in endless space. Though if there was another faction that had their expansionist play-style that would be neat too, I hope harmony comes back in ES2, they were awesome
harmony SHOULD be there with no doubt! DUST Haters should make some good opponent etc %) but its not we decide what should be here or what not :( and yet, games2gether forums suggestions !
0:26 so were they originally some sort of insectoid race?? So are they now like the BL or more like they augmented their body using the virtuals tech? Is that music from EL ??
they were apparently pretty grotesque before they found the virtual relics of the virtual endless, which allowed them to evolve into what they are now.
I usually don't like the relligous zealot races but the message of this one isn't wrong and is good. Probbably my favorite. Especially because of the transhumanist astetic and cool ships.
so will these guys have like a counter religion? from this rebel group or another faction im assuming there is someone with concrete backing since these guys found virtual relics. cant be the hissho since they are a minor faction now. (2 if u count the cravers)
A very interesting Faction...I would like to play their quest line but the System I have to conquer only has a sun but no planets. I can't do shit. HELP!
First look these Vodyani people are so admirable cus of their determination and faithfulness. But when I found the description of this faction on official website, that they are actually seeing other intelligence who do not devote themselves to the Endless as monsters and apostates to be enslaved, and they actually drain the lifeforce of people from other faction as FIDS, well, they are less admirable.
So we have science faction (Sophons), militarist faction (Cravers), religious faction (Vodyani), and pacifist faction (Lumeris). Hope we get a pure industrial and ecological civ going, and then some hybrids to really round out the roster.
I would actually say Lumeris would be more military and economic faction like United Empire or Sheredyn from endless space 1, tho i don't have endless space 2 i'm pretty sure that's what they focus on
The Lumeris is the economical facction and the industrial would be the rift lords, as for the pacifist are the unfallen, as for industrial you could also call theunited empire
Can't wait to play them when you guys have early release. I'm definitely interested in who the heretic is and if that is going to play out as a minor faction or DLC content later on. Will we be fighting demons in SPAAACCEE?
what if the heretic is a broken lord? Remember the broken lords suffered the same fate but some of them survived Auriga. They always hated draining other creatures which is something this faith believes. Don't hate me if I am right
na sounds like the quest line will be internal conflict. wonder if that will affect the government system they are putting in? have a chance of planets rebelling or something.
well they had a big split in society and as they don't colonize planets we have yet to see how this plays out. it could be that 50% of the vodyani are trying to rise endless. And the other half tries to acchieve other goals. Maybe a little craver like esque.
actually they are quite similar to the cravers in some ways. the vodiany too were uplifted and safed from self destruction. just that they already had a "functioning" society. I'm kind of interested on what the brother actually did. Herracy is usually only a matter of view.
Yep. One mans heresy is another mans enlightenment. or something like that anyway :P And not really. The Virtual didnt uplift the cravers they created them simply to kill thing. then the cravers sorta went outta control. Also considering minor factions get their own fleets maybe the heretics will be a minor faction? I cant wait for the early access now so i can find out whats actually happening ^^.
that's a Point. but didn't the craver lore say that they were a Hunter gatherer tribe until the endless Came? yeah the endless forged/uplifted them to their current Form. but the craver already existed before... at least tonmy knowledge.

I'm certainly interested...
To be fair, everyone's questline ends with them taking off into space like that. And canonically speaking it was the Vaulters who actually did it, hence why they're in ES1.
But these guys do certainly have a similar feel to them. Which is awesome to say the least. :)
Oh. I didn't know that was how the others ended.
I do wish that these guys are cultists of the eternal end in the far future.
just gunna point out that these guys assimilate other major/minor factions people into their own as slave labor. just saying.
Sounds like a more evil cultists....
King328 thats what i was getting at
Broken lords mixed with cultist in space? TAKE MY MONEY!
This is the better trailer that ever see of endlles space 2
Since this... trailer (?) come... i knew that this IS my faction!! WE WILL RISE ENDLESS!!
Their ships are designed like cathedrals!
"Amateurs"
- anonymous Imperial Navy officer
Can we get the soundtrack to this prologue? I am in love with it.
Hmm i'm getting a D&D feel from this.
The followers of Lolth and how they split the Drow "dark Elves".
Good vipe.
Cultists from enfless elgend in space? SOLD IT
They are BL+Cultists actually
I like the fact that the dust lights form angel wings behind her as she speaks of Ascención
I thought absolutely nothing would be better than the sophons...
i was so wrong!
Maybe the two different sides are mimicking the conflict of the Endless - the desire for ascension to a completely incorporeal form vs regaining their flesh and possessing bodies once more.
the music for this game is on point, holy shit. so grand
Minor Factions :P
harmony definitely not minor
harmony definitely not minor
harmony was my favorite faction in endless space and to be fair, the broken lords in endless space 2 wouldn't make a lot of sense, since the vaulters were the only ones to leave Auriga before it permanently died hence why it's barren in endless space. Though if there was another faction that had their expansionist play-style that would be neat too, I hope harmony comes back in ES2, they were awesome
harmony SHOULD be there with no doubt!
DUST Haters should make some good opponent etc %)
but its not we decide what should be here or what not :(
and yet, games2gether forums suggestions !
This orange lines in the end look like some sort of a wings for hierarchich
Love the epic sound track for these guys, hope it becomes a recurring theme for theme.
Ooohhh yes, The lords in sspaaace. Dust vamps. It's all there. The design is all future templar order with , sounds like lierally the same concept.
With dust life stealing*
0:26 so were they originally some sort of insectoid race??
So are they now like the BL or more like they augmented their body using the virtuals tech?
Is that music from EL ??
they were apparently pretty grotesque before they found the virtual relics of the virtual endless, which allowed them to evolve into what they are now.
could you please put a link of your source? that would be quite helpful .....thanx.
Saurabh Banik wiki.endless-space.com/factions/vodyani
I love this faction already, kinda reminds me of the protoss ≧∇≦
I usually don't like the relligous zealot races but the message of this one isn't wrong and is good. Probbably my favorite. Especially because of the transhumanist astetic and cool ships.
3nd favorite. Prefer the dwarf looking vaulters.
so will these guys have like a counter religion? from this rebel group or another faction im assuming there is someone with concrete backing since these guys found virtual relics. cant be the hissho since they are a minor faction now. (2 if u count the cravers)
I like how the "ancient demon" looks vaguely like a Wind Walker.
So the 0:26 creature is their original form and they've used endless tech to upload their minds to these black fiery humanoid suits?
A very interesting Faction...I would like to play their quest line but the System I have to conquer only has a sun but no planets. I can't do shit. HELP!
Easily the worst questline in the game, for ease of completion and lack of bonuses
So much epic!
The Broken Lords rise again!!!!
H-h-heretic,you say? [Urge to purge the unclean intensifies].
Borislav Stoqnov
The urge....to purge!
This game has some of the best visuals ever
I can't wait mooooore
"We will see the heretic drown in his blasphemies" *picks rejuvenator on Academy quest*
The accent adds a little something special imo. It really helps that near-Eastern feeling.
Broken Lore + Cultist = YES!
It's what would happen if the Broken Lords embraced their soul-sucking powers.
I am liking the soundtrack of this game.
reminds me of the vaulters?
Anyone knows the reference of the background music?
Deus Vult?
Demon Hunter Deus Vult!
I love the soundtrack !
Could we get it some day?
First look these Vodyani people are so admirable cus of their determination and faithfulness. But when I found the description of this faction on official website, that they are actually seeing other intelligence who do not devote themselves to the Endless as monsters and apostates to be enslaved, and they actually drain the lifeforce of people from other faction as FIDS, well, they are less admirable.
Yang Lan space ISIS as I like to refer to them.
Oh so basically the Holy Roman Empire, an entire nation built on the memory of a once powerful empire.
Well, I guess it is time to get some more soup again!
Holy shit! (pun intended)
For the Endless!
Are they the sister of mercy? i mean it could be base on that minor faction but the design looking great.
no, theyre not the sisters of mercy, they didnt come from auriga and they werent always humanoid.
OST please, so good!
Wait so is The Heretic still alive and giding somewhere in the galaxy?
hm, time to decide between my good old sophons and this now
there has to be 8 major faction, where are the remaining.
Coming later. Early Access will only be launching with these 4.
Possibly the best voice actress in the game.
Her accent sounds like...
a mixture between Christopher Walken and John Travolta
(refer to Howard Wolowitz impression)
Can't wait to play them when you guys have early release. I'm definitely interested in who the heretic is and if that is going to play out as a minor faction or DLC content later on. Will we be fighting demons in SPAAACCEE?
мощно.
it would be awesome if the cultist of the end escapes Auriga, anti endless vs endless worshippers.
Infintum Vult!
what if the heretic is a broken lord? Remember the broken lords suffered the same fate but some of them survived Auriga. They always hated draining other creatures which is something this faith believes.
Don't hate me if I am right
Well no reason to hate you since you are wrong XD
nah its not. climate change victims where they change form to virtuals
Something tells me that the 'Heretic' the faction leader's brother, was trying to save his race.
No confirmation of them being related in any way. As for what he's up to: just watch the Launch trailer.
Amplitude... Why do you have to do this to me
really remind me of the Protoss
These guys are more like Necrons.
Race of aliens that turned themselves into robots, and worship a race of energy beings as gods.
sounds like there is a 5th race being teased :P
na sounds like the quest line will be internal conflict. wonder if that will affect the government system they are putting in? have a chance of planets rebelling or something.
well they had a big split in society and as they don't colonize planets we have yet to see how this plays out. it could be that 50% of the vodyani are trying to rise endless.
Yep. One mans heresy is another mans enlightenment. or something like that anyway :P
And not really.
Let the Galaxy burn! blood for the blood god!
basically feels like playing the covenant from halo
Space Cultists!
Someone call the Golden Throne!
