I like the nuanced depictions of the various factions in this game. Sure, the United Empire is an autocracy, but there's a goal to better the fate of mankind.
Actually, it's federation type of government. It is called United Empire and they have an emperor but they are not your ordinary empire. In ES2 they start with federation as an internal system. There are Dictatorship, Federation, Republic and Democracy.
In game they actually say that the empire is far too large for a single ruler to govern it all, so it is a semi or fully constitutional monarchy I think
@@normieloser6969 Makes sense. Either you go more libertarian or more feudal with massive empires, direct control when you have thousands of light-years of territory to control is difficult
To be fair though, the United Empire in ES is closer to the Adeptus Mechanicus (for the whole "ruthless interstellar company with an obsession for mass production and low-tech" vibe, minus the religious aspect) than the Imperium of Man.
I was pretty excited about that. I loved shack's previous Stellaris RPs and prayed that someone would make a machinima series using GMOD or SFM in conjunction with Stellaris.
Honestly, I don't think the United Empire is xenophobic at all, at least not in the "slaughter all aliens" sense. The backstory specifically says "turn them into new patriots", and despite the subsequent slide's show of a pile of very dead aliens, I feel that it was more symbolism of something else, what with the banner stuck into the pile of corpses. Gameplay-wise, the United Empire is anything but xenocidal. For starters, they begin with an alien pop on their homeworld of Raia, and that pop is a third of the entire Empire's population at game start (and can be up to half temporarily if you lose an Imperial pop when colonizing a planet immediately with your starting colony ship). After a war ends, the Empire usually integrates the conquered races peacefully (they often even grow alongside the Imperial pops that pop up there). They don't eat them or enslave them or steal their souls or attempt to assimilate them into one species, they just annex them into the Empire, and, provided they stay loyal, most likely even treat them as equals. That's better than at least about half the other empires of the galaxy of Endless Space 2.
I think that is not an issue. Through the progressing of the game, you can see that the empire is withstanding a wind of change. Rather than cooperations under a single ruler of the monarchy, it is slowly changing into a federation which is more like a republic because of the ineffective of the monarchy when the empire is growing so fast and so vast. The same with their Xeno politics. The opening cutscene happens when the empire just finished its unification on a single planet RAIA. And as them goes deeper into the stats, it is sure that they are not going to be very xenophobic. Because the empire's strategy is to rule through cooperations and loyalty. To me, that is the meaning of UNITED. Unity as one single empire when needed, but could be individual when not needed or not be threatened. So that make cooperations with Xenos is truly more effective and less costly than killing or enslaving them all. Then through time, they will become somehow loyalty as long as the empire protect them and see them as citizens. Another thing very interesting hint is that the citizens of the empire are considered as imperials rather than human even at the beginning of the game. I think that is another sign that the UE is more like an empire with multiple species as their citizens. And maybe they didn't kill all that 3-eyed aliens.
Also, I do not so approve that people who consider the UE is similar to the Imperium in 40K, not because I don't like 40K, actually I like 40K, but it is just the Imperium does NOT FIT the UE. Maybe it is fit in ES1, but definitely not in ES2.
@@peiranzhang4283 I think a nation could be both federation and republic/democracy. Well, the modern United States is a federation yet also democracy. So that I think the UE is a federation which based on monarchy, then changed into a republic, or a republicanism federation?
Or if you go with becoming sheryden, you will be a loose dictatorship with republicanism on the local planetary level. But yeah, I think UE is the least extreme faction.

Hear me out: the United Empire -- at least as I've seen from a few games as them or with them around -- aren't all that much like the Imperium of Man. They've got the imperious style and awesomely grandiose soundtrack, but far as I can tell, they're really more like the Tau. They're happy to integrate xenos... where "integrate" here means teaching them to kneel (or the nearest equivalent they can manage) before the glory of their rightful, eternal Emperor Zelevas, to embrace the vastly superior culture that his brave soldiers have so kindly brought them, and to do their duty for the Empire so that others might know the joy of his benevolent and glorious rule.
The Imperium permits some races to exist. Things like ogryn, which aren't really human, and they haven't ERADICATED THE TAU YET even though they could.
For the Tau, its different, the Imperium only want the emperor cult to be applicated and to protect itself. The Tau aren't a threat for the moment because they have to fight against the tyranides and the Orks. They also have to deal with Farsight the traitor. The imperium is able to crush the Tau
I think that the Imperium and the United Empire are more similar. The Imperium and the United Empire both are xenophobic, whereas the Tau sow the brotherhood between species
He may not be our God-Emperor. But he is an example of humanity's persistence, and he like the great heroes of the Imperium strives to claim humanity's sacred birthright to the galaxy. Emperor bless.

It's funny, but in the game the empire is one of the most alien-friendly factions. At the beginning of the game, a third of your population consists of aliens. Other factions let aliens in for genetic material, food or slaves. But the empire calmly incorporates everyone into the state without mass oppression.
No need to fear the xeno when we can united them in glorious empire comrade. We shall convince all that our way is best, and together venture into a future filled with prosperity and fraternity for all!

So I invaded them and ended up in a very long war where, in true imperial fashion, I dedicated my economy to producing and throwing entire fleets of stage 2 ships to their doom against fleets of Riftborn stage 3 ships, until I "won" the war by driving the Riftborn out of my space, gaining only 2 systems for all that slaughter. Learned my lesson from that so during the peace I maxed out my military so that I would stomp them in the next war.

@@Wustenfuchs109 So more like Victorian Era England.
@@Southern_CrusaderI get more Free Worlds League feel from that. People have more freedom as long as they stay loyal kinda deal
In game they actually say that the empire is far too large for a single ruler to govern it all, so it is a semi or fully constitutional monarchy I think

FOR THE EMPRAH
Emperor Maximilian Zelevas of the United Empire.FOR THE EMPRAH
It is already a federation when you start the game.

ShiniesAreCool You are right, the imperium prefers to purge every xeno
The Imperium permits some races to exist. Things like ogryn, which aren't really human, and they haven't ERADICATED THE TAU YET even though they could.
For the Tau, its different, the Imperium only want the emperor cult to be applicated and to protect itself. The Tau aren't a threat for the moment because they have to fight against the tyranides and the Orks. They also have to deal with Farsight the traitor. The imperium is able to crush the Tau
the Imperium are too busy trying to fight the whole damn universe to eradicate the Tau at the moment
I think that the Imperium and the United Empire are more similar. The Imperium and the United Empire both are xenophobic, whereas the Tau sow the brotherhood between species

>not uniting the other human-like factions
The Emperor is unpleasant with your actions!
Why do you think he didn't unite mankind?
He just made sure they are united under the RIGHT government, you know. Just like the Emperor has done it.
+Kaza ddum
It's likely because in ES2, the United Empire is already the union of the Sheredyn, Mezari, and ES1 UE. It's already a united mankind.
KalDragon: I know. But which internal culture is dominant wil be decided by your actions.
Humanity to rule the universe first must stand united to face any foe and share its prosperity across the stars.
Never played this game, but this theme convinced me to show the aliens why the galaxy belongs to us
To show them that, as the Bible says, it is MAN that is made in God’s image.
It's funny, but in the game the empire is one of the most alien-friendly factions. At the beginning of the game, a third of your population consists of aliens. Other factions let aliens in for genetic material, food or slaves. But the empire calmly incorporates everyone into the state without mass oppression.
I can feel the xenophobia coursing through my veins

The moment I heard this theme I knew it was for the industrial empire. This theme is perfect
What an amazing and unique soundtrack! I really love the pistons and other industrial stuff. The spice ... err ... the Dust must flow!
My issue is that I can’t force myself to play non-human species in endless legends and Stellaris , even though I have all dlc still every time it’s totalitarian militaristic empire of the mankind , only total domination through brute force and overlordship is acceptable , every time I start new game I do the same, conquering ,purging and subjugating , and I enjoy it

@@Finwaell And I, on the hand, absolutely NEVER play humans in any 4X - they're generic, they're bland, they're boring. I already know humans, they usually serve as the "default" safe option. "The desire to bow, to worship, to prostrate oneself before an authority has been as instrumental desire as the quest for freedom"
I do not remember the exact quote from Joseph de Maistre, but one just has to look at this forum to see how true it is. Characters of the mighty emperors whom we see in science fiction are appealing to use for more reasons than just their well development.
They signify desire most of us share in our hearts; a dream for a leader who would arise from the ashes of a broken society and lead us to glory, among baroque armors, victory banners and cliche songs.
We love to worship such people.
I think those kind of people are detrimental to society, especially if they want other cultures to ‘kneel’ before them and viewing themselves as the ‘vastly superior’ culture.
hmmmmm
@@joeywild2011 Detrimental? They build societies. Those willing to do what needs to be done, to carry the burden of an empire are the sort to make the hard decisions none of us could decide upon. And about the other cultures, no two cultures are equal and to see ours as above the rest is natural and how it should be, to prove it via war or other means is just to make sure they understand it to.
Colonel Thyran First half of your comment, that’s fair enough. I mean, “do what needs to be done” isn’t always justified. I think morality is much more important than power. As for the second half, Jesus you sound like a supremacist pro-war patriot from 50 years ago. This kind of “it’s natural to think your culture is better” “prove it through war” mentality is so archaic and regressive...
@@joeywild2011 It's true, though. Maybe not in the turn-of-the-century sense, where people were expected to beleive that their culture was racially bound, unchanging and eternal. But it's *true* that human beings have an innate bias towards our customs and norms, to the point where we don't even see it as cultural imposition; it's just right and wrong. & any other view that considers our rights to be wrong and our wrongs to be right... well, whatever reason they're saying it for, that's a threat that needs stamping out.

This always reminds me of my first Endless Space 2 session where I was United Empire trying to figure out all the game systems.
Ended up waaay behind in ship tech against Riftborn expanding into parts of the galaxy I wanted. I thought I could just overwhelm their local forces with numbers enough to drive them out of my area, then negotiate peace before they sent fleets from their home systems.
