YES! I knew this music struck a visceral nostalgic nerve. His music is amazing. Mechanicus had such a great soundtrack, literally put the game on edge as you slowly lost members to the Necrons unrelenting purge.
Ixion is proving no different! I'm still in Sol and god damn, the gameplay and soundtrack are freaking amazing.
So that's why IXION'S soundtrack gives me chills and makes me wanna listen it on repeat!

This is like Solarpunk version of Mechanicus and I love it
Most sci-fi soundtracks that accompany the stories that touch the same subjects as IXION go with the overly dramatic, the solemn, the grandiose. That can be fine, but when everyone's doing it, it starts feeling like well-trodden ground. The safe route, if you will. We've heard it with Hans Zimmer, Max Richter, Ramin Djawadi, James Horner, Michael Giacchino, and a looong list of others that use the same ol' reliable tools to accompany sci-fi tales.
However, Guillaume David, with IXION's soundtrack, feels like he's singing the praises of a facet of humanity that not often receives aural attention: its industriousness and resilience.
More often than not, when those themes arise in media, they are accompanied by the epic sounds typical of a grand goal, or the dramatic undertones typical of a tragedy that tests our resolve. IXION's soundtrack, instead (and of course, appropriately given the type of game it is), appropriately musicalizes the immense industriousness, resilience, ingenuity, and sacrifice that is involved in the day to day life of a space station. How what everything with take for granted and oftentimes boring becomes heroic when set in outer space.
It's a wonderful soundtrack because it underlines the bravery of the mundane, and the determination of pushing through routine. It warms up what would normally be very distant and rote proceedings by infusing it with humanity's hopes and dreams. It's a wonderful mixture between electronic and organic, massive synths supporting ethereal choirs and ethnic drums. Humanity surviving so far from Earth through sheer willpower.
Guillaume David did it again. We all know how Mechanicus is great, it's been discussed at length. But IXION proves that David has a knack to strike the chord (haha) that perfectly encapsulates the media that has the privilege to have one of his soundtracks accompanying it. It's refreshing, it's moving, it's absolutely magnificent.

One of the things I love about this soundtrack is that the techno-synth and choir sing together in harmony. This means the ship is singing along with humanity. The AI's purpose and humanities hope are in literal harmony through this journey. If you know the story beats, this makes even more sense.
I sent a friend a clip of the first Vhole jump. His first reply was "Is that music actually part of the game? That just went real hard." His second reply was "Just picked up the deluxe edition" Good soundtracks can indeed sell games.
He went on to nearly 100% the achievements on it, really loved the story and gameplay as well once the music hooked him.
For my part, the Vhole jump is by far my favorite depiction of FTL I've seen, both visually, and the way the music and cinematography fit together. Really well done game.
The way Guillaume can make the deep bass sounds talk and actively take part in the songs is mindblowing. Most people treat bass as a monotone drone that holds up the rest of the song, but instead here it is actively joining the melodies.
Reminds me of Massive Attack way of bass, u know. Guillaume sent to us by musical Elisium, I think

Buy Ixion, please you can find it for less than 25$ and the one time something french is good excepted vine, you can, at least, try to play.
Edit, you can find frostpunk for 15 with every DLCs, I have never seen anything more worth it.

@@Schinak welll.... it was not through the moon..... you can see it was paralel to the moon, so that neither the exhaust, nor the ships path would pass through it, in the video it's very quick, but while the spaceship appears to be "under the moon" and pointing at it , i bet it's more of a going past it, so while it could have probably been orbiting anywhere else than moon orbit, it doesnt LOOK dangerous.
Mabye it was corporate wanting to show off to the people on earth that positioned the ship this way? Mabye they got some calculations wrong, mabye the design was wrong from the start, mabye they got hacked, mabye a navigation accident, mabye it was done deliberately..... play the game and find out....
@@Schinak they didn’t warp trough the moon, they aimed along side it, but somebody bypassed the systems and messed with the jump, causing it to “grab” part of the moon when jumping.
@@Codename_Horizon They should not have been anywhere near the MOON to begin with. That natural satelite of ours IS VITAL to the Earth. You don't fuck with it. You don't do anything big around it. Hack or not it should not have been NEAR it. It's not like they needed the moon to slingshot the station or some bullshit. IT was criminal incompetence and blithe showmanship to make it take off from near the moon. You are activating an engine that was CLEARLY not well documented because if there was even the RISK of doing what they did to the moon, they should not have been anywhere near it. So it's either criminal incompetence, sheer fucking HUBRIS, or atrocious and contrived writing. Pick your poison. It's going to be poison none the less. After that point I felt ZERO desire to ensure the survival of the morons who eat bugs to prolong their incredibly inept existence.

this definitelly has to be one of the best space game osts ever, man the moment i heard vanir`s legacy in the epic gameplay trailer i instantly fell in love with this, the setting, the visuals, the sound and music all is perfect for me

The vanir's legacy is absolutely a iconic track to be remembered and revered.
I have not played Mechanicus or IXION... But holy fuck, i heard a snippet of the Mechanicus OST and it sent me on a mission to unearth every single piece of music Guillaume David has ever composed. This guy is simply amazing at what he does... How is he only credited with the two soundtracks from Mechanicus and IXIOM? Am i seriously expected to believe the Mechanicus OST is his first shot at making a soundtrack? There's no hecking way.
Does anyone know if he's using an alias or if he's been involved in previous collaborative projects he hasn't been properly credited for? I'd simply love to know and hear more.
It's unbelievable, isn't it? Everything he has put out so far is simply masterful. Guillaume David might actually shape up to be the Hans Zimmer of game sountracks!
He was playing in an orchestra and has composed stuff but he decided to keep those things for himself. Shame.

The first music gives me goosebumps! It's awesome!
It's haunting. There's this massive tension between intrepid optimism and dire pessimism coded into that motif we get in the first minute. The rest of the piece just expands on that. Which makes sense since the core theme to the game is "We're gonna save humanity, but we're probably going to die trying."
Wow. I haven’t heard anything this good in ages it seems. beautifully bold, and so very emotional. Haven’t played the game, but I’m completely enraptured by this.

The no turning back bit of this playlist is just a masterpiece hearing the choir in the back. You can just feel the feels man knowing that this is there last chance a hope for the future just amazing.

That soundtrack is award worthy! Totally sets the entire mood and atmosphere for the game. And Vanir's Legacy is one of the standout tracks of the year, making the jump sequence one of the best cinematics recently.

The best thing about the game is the Tiqqun, that is one beautiful ship. The story, gameplay & background score adds so much to the game. Well done guys & gals involved in the project.
Honestly, the Tiqqun is neither beautiful nor especially practically constructed.
First of all, with that fixed drum design, the moment the ship fires its thrusters to move somewhere, the rotational gravity inside the drum would shift from the outside to the upper edge of the back wall, sending everything and everyone not fastened securely there and making moving inside the ship during the duration of the acceleration phase nearly impossible, unless the ship accelerates VERY gently with low-G. If the individual sectors were self contained segments that can swivel backwards and stop rotating during moving, normal artificial gravity could be maintained inside for most of the movement phase.
Secondly, the way the solar panels are fixed, only half of them at best can effectively collect light while the drum spins. If they were mounted on hinges so they can swivel to the front like spokes on an umbrella, the Tiqqun could just orient its front towards the nearest star and have all its solar panels work at maximum efficiency, even though that would subject the larger ones to greater centrifugal forces. And that shouldn't even be an upgrade, but a basic feature.
Thirdly, who the hell construct such a massive and structurally fragile ship without any form of point defense, like a powerful laser array to destroy incoming space debris? Or a debris shield on the front to protect the whole thing during movement?
But yeah, the soundtrack totally elevates this game out of mediocrity with its atmosphere alone. Even though the story could be narrated better.

This game is epic. Such beautiful music, visuals, and storyline. You can almost feel the struggle of the people you are carrying to mankind's last hope.
People on steam reviews keep getting roasted by difficulty. It's a shame game have a mixed reviews because of them. People need to learn planing and handle problems.

This being created by the same brilliant fellow that made Mechanicus' soundtrack, this reminds me of a beacon of light in that dark universe, as if the Mechanicus had even the slightest hope of rising beyond their obsessive metallic shackles. It's a good feeling.

No game has made me feel the way this one did in a very long time. The combination elements of Startopia, Homeworld, Factorio, and Stellaris.... is just mindblowing. That and the soundtrack hits like no other.

I absolutely need Guillaume David and Kevin Penkin (Made in Abyss) to do a collaboration. Their ethereal styles would mesh together beautifully.
Not only does Guillaume David always drop bangers, Kasedo Games makes the best games to go with it. Mechanicus and Ixion with the music on will have me in a trance. Excited to see what more you guys do together.

I like how in "No turning" back that you can feel it. But you also feel hope for a better tomorrow. There is absolutely no sadness in it, just a recollection of the situation and how to continue onwards.
If that music/game does not inspire Humanity to abandon it's useless squabbling and greed for resources/power, and start to dream of/build space exploration, then I don't know what will.

David literally puts his soul into his works, imbued with the atmosphere of the universe and the situation. That is why his music is so mesmerizing.
"Across the void" is the best ost game. I listen to this ost in the dark winter time and look at the stars in the sky. Thank you so much for such wonderful music.

man this goes so hard its unreasonable holy shit. I was ignoring it in my recommended until I realised who made it. Then I had to listen to it!
The ticking incorporated at 7:46 really helps convey the great length of time passed since you last visited the Sol system (despite being there moments ago with the Tiqqun), really adds desperation and dread to the whole situation when you realize you might be all that's left of humanity
Not only that, the soundtrack will also convey a sense of urgency and that this here and now is THE defining time of humanity. Im sure the ticking is inspired from interstellar and i honestly think it fits perfectly :) Its a bit subtle so you don't really notice it when you play unless you stop to actually listen, but even if you might not consciously notice it, the feeling it conveys is still there :)
I've been waiting eagerly for the soundtrack since the demo, gonna listen this masterpiece round the clock. Thanks Guillaume David for such awesome work. You really did bring joy to my day !

I've written it already on the trailer, but i'll write it again: "EMW Charon" at 4:30 is one of the best electronic tracks i've heard in my life; the high/low counterpoints and the chorus are amazing. Thank you for all the great music!
Yeah. I hadn't listened to it before playing the game, and the game starts with this track. The vibe when the percussion drops, brought the biggest smile to my face.
I couldn't put my finger on it, but it reminded me of something from years ago. Then I found the song. Dolce Triade - Workin' on the clouds. I know it's not even remotely the same genre, but that's the song it brought to my mind.
Track two - EMV Charon is absolutely amazing on a high end hifi system with a pair of subwoofers!! Glorious! :)

God the first thing I did when I put the game on was listen to its intro and fall in love.
I felt like I've come across a legend in the earliest stages of their making with Mechanicus, and Ixion's OST has proven me right. Why I've never heard of the name before is rather confusing.
I think that he's not actually the best of all time or anything like that, but he's definitely good enough to be up there with the best composers for game OSTs. What gives him that position imo is not that his music slaps, but they're all incredibly unique and each track is just, art. Not many OSTs have made me feel this way. What I'm trying to say is that Guillaume's tracks are amazing in a completely different sense from other composers, and he can't be compared to them, he's on his own axis of musical creativity.
It's literarly one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard in my life, be it a game, tv series or a movie. It gives me chills all the time. The same league as Homeworld 1 soundtrack and that should tell you a lot!
