A new video of Kate's rendition! I'm glad she continues to amazingly play the piano, since I had been worried about her shoulder injury. Hope I can listen to her performance more!
I don't know details about that but she cancelled her concert in Japan due to it. Considering her performance on this video, that no longer bothers her, which makes me happy as a fan!
There is no contemporary pianist, to my knowledge, who has Kate Liu's musicality. There are tech-wizards galore, signed by DG and other recording companies. Kate Liu is unique in that she has the great technique, yet plays musically. Chopin, Liszt, Prokofiev just breathe and bloom under her fingers. Many can learn an instrument. No one can learn music. Kate Liu has the rare gift of music, perhaps deepened by her violin playing. - I should like to encourage her, if i can effect such by this comment, to stray onto less travelled paths: Dusík instead of Beethoven, Fauré instead of Ravel, Haydn instead of Mozart. Kate Liu would perform wonders with all of them.
ioannes tritemius You probably have been her for a really long time, but looking at this “performance” I can’t agree on some of your points. Sure musicality is thought to be something superior to basic mechanics, but the technique is the very building block. All those pseudo “musical ideas” shown suddenly seemed pointless when the basics were not there; to a trained ear, she played a lot of wrong notes, did a lot of rolling over, sometimes didn’t follow the composer’s instructions, and the high register was just shadowed, almost non-exist(maybe it was the piano? That was the only thing that could be not on the performer). Also the big big memory slip at 1:36 is simply unforgivable. Besides, instead of “musicality”, many of the wrong, weird accents and non-legatos can only be explained by a lack of careful, disciplined text analysis and reflection. That’s also a common problem for most of the piano students(including me), too; many people just learn the music and reinforce what they have felt, but never look back and think with self-struggles.
Franz Liszt's salvation teacher was Carl Czerny (1791 to 1857) When Carl Czerny teached Liszt 1819, Carl Czerny was 28 years old. Liszt was 8 years old. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Czerny At the age of fifteen, Czerny began a very successful teaching career. Basing his method on the teaching of Beethoven and Muzio Clementi, Czerny taught up to twelve lessons a day in the homes of Viennese nobility.
Kate liu came from another GALAXY. .I .L...O...V...E... HER !!!!!!.. Perfection...Passion....Power...Sound....What else Can I say??.. But ,,, I played this Etude in Fa m many times in Concert..n IT s too ,too dificult.. And I think she miss a part.. So much passion, some times, its not good.. And She get lost in that section..[ 1:36 to 1:41 ]/////
Tough to say the least; need to be brave to showcase this. Possibly Trifinov has it better in his Lyons performance. The test is in the closing segment. He gets the form and 'particulars' right . Kate is missing detail. Trif was exceptional - he performed ALL 12 Etudes in 'one sitting'. Knew them inside out.
She was after a horrible shoulder injury lasted almost 2 year without practising. After that, in 2019 she was not yet physically ready for such a challenging piece. For this reason I don't judge this harshly. Any of her earlier or latter performances-including the other pieces on program-are much better.

Frank Ch Lmaooo and who are you again? What’s with such a critical assessment? She literally won 3rd in the Chopin competition. It seems like your perceptions may be clouded with other things to give a fair judgement.
@@paolovez9688 What a typical ignorant comment. I was talking specifically about this performance based on everything shown in this video, and you? You clearly have not received a decent piano training, and your lack of knowledge on this piece, Liszt's works, and even piano performing in a general sense prohibited you from making even one valid scholarly argument. Your appeal to authority, combined with a hint of ad hominem, in no ways invalidates my point that the performance was completely out of control & a ostentatious mess. Hope you start learning!
Where ever I go when I leave this world, if Kate Liu and a piano is there, it can't be all that bad. She is a living legend.
She'll be there, she is an angel after all..

I think she messed up around 1:37 and it's amazing how she improvised. Bravo!
Yes it was a great recovery. I performed this and made the exact same mistake at the same spot, but my recovery was not nearly as smooth. 😂
exactly!
Feel so passion and powerful
She's not human!! Wow!!
She is an extraordinary pianist !!!!
Singapur y Estados Unidos deben sentirse muy orgullosos con esta pianista.

Kate Liu: juventud, belleza, musicalidad y virtuosismo
WOW!! Awesome! :)
Toooooooo goood omg

Un phénomène qui fait de la musique avec des notes peut se moquer de tous les styles.
Liszt was a genius
Liszt was not genius. Didn't forget Carl Czerny teached Liszt.

Czerny was genius. When Carl Czerny age was 15 years old, he began a very successful teaching career to be piano teacher.
To say Liszt was not a genius because he had a teacher is ridiculous. Every great composer had a teacher. Liszt IS an eternal musical genius.
