  • Tatjana Smith insisted her only aim was to do "the best I can" in Monday's women's 100 metres breaststroke final - an approach that brought the South African the second Olympic gold medal of her career to date.
    Smith, who won the 200 metres breaststroke at the Tokyo Games, edged out China's Tang Qianting at La Defense Arena to reach the top step of the podium, while Ireland's Mona McSharry finished in the bronze medal position.
