One of the best loc videos I’ve watched. My first set I wasn’t sure if I wanted thicker traditional or medium/small traditional. I ended up with medium small but ultimately they were still a tad too many and small for me. I’ve been anxious to start again but you know what? It’s just hair. I can start over if I don’t like it. So I’m going for thicker traditional this time. Last time was about 81-83 locs and this time I want to go around 65-73 ish depending on how it all turns out. Loved my first set but ready for my next!
Thank you very much, dear. I'm so glad that you find this helpful.🤗🤗😍😍😍 You're right, you can start again if you don't like it.🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 I have a soft spot for big locs, I think they are so cute.😍😍😍
I have 22 Super thick locs and I looooovvvveeee them. I've had traditional locs before. Wasn't my style because everyone is doing it. I have also had micro locs which were indeed beautiful but also wasn't my style. These though, these super thick locs are me!!
This is a lovely and detailed video. My only comment is that I don't think people who want micro locs are necessarily trying to minic sisterlocks. I am a case in point. I have had big traditional/semi-freeform locks for 13years (95locs), with high density hair and I loved them! I, like you was just drawn to these locks more than micro/sisterlocks. After having 7 babies in this time I experienced a lot of post partum shedding at my hairline and lost a few locs, which I just combined to locks that were still there when the hair would grow back. I finally decided to cut my hair and start locs again. I just love locs and can't imagine my hair in a different form, but I decided that I just wanted to try something different this time (also in case we have more babies I thought I would prefer to just start new small locs at the hairline instead of trying to combine them every time). So I just picked hair and finger coiled without much planning or grid forming (that is my preference), they ended up being more than 400locs As I was doing this I started watching videos of people with small locs only to discover that these are called micro locs. Long story short, I didn't start my micro locs in order to mimic sisterlocks...and I am sure there are many people just like me 🤗 Thanks for the great video, we needed you 14 years ago 👏🏾
Thank you so much for your feedback.🤗🤗😘😘 I am sure there are more people like you lol. I think microlocs and sisterlocks are basically the same, you can't really tell the difference once they mature.
I *thought* I had "a lot of hair" 🙈 So pissed that some lockticians don't take time to evaluate that before the installation. Then, like you said, we comb out their (pricey) work several weeks or months later... Yes, some of us have to play with hair density and thickness of hair strand... Otherwise, scalpy look or zero volume 😭 I explained density and thickness like this to my mom: with sewing thread 🧵 and wool thread. I actually cut some pieces and did some twists 😂
😂😂 Your explanation skill is on point, I wouldn't have thought of the sewing thread and wool. Genius! 👏👏😍😍😍 I can imagine, so sorry about that. 🤗🤗 I see the work that some loctitians do and I weep. Some are only interested in making money and some don't even know what they are doing. 😭😭😭 Finding a good loctician is a blessing.
@@LilianOkibe ☺️ Thank you, haha Yeah, my wallet and I wept too. Twice... Finding a competent and attentive locktician is not an easy task. So... DIY locks for me. Thanks Internet, thanks RUclips and thank you Lilian 🙏🏿
So what happened? You said you “thought” you had a lot of hair. Did your Locs turn out thin and scalpy? Please help me avoid making this mistake my app is in 2 weeks lol
@@chantelb4126 Hi 😊 Depends for what you going for. Do you favor the size of the locs (thin, medium, thick) or the fullness? From there, you observe your hair.
I love me a indept video ❤️❤️. Thank you. I've definitely been back and forth because every size loc is so beautiful in its own way but I think for my hair I need to go the smaller route to build volume.
First of all you are GORGEOUS 😍 and the way you broke all this down was very enlightening ! I finally decided I wanted to commit and get locs . I started my two strand twists like 4 days ago 🙈 I'm excited about the journey ! Btw your locs are beautiful ! 💜 also, does the way you part your locs matter in any way ??
Thank you so much. 😊😊😘😘 I am glad that you find this video helpful. Yes, the way you part the hair matters. Generally, triangular and rectangular shaped parts tend to produce flat locs. You'll have to do a lot of maintenance to stop them from getting flat. ❤️❤️❤️
I took my hair down I went for 50 because I have fine hair in the front but it was spaced apart , I’m getting it redone tomorrow & the aim is 80-90 . This video really helped me out . Thanks
I have 180 locs and they’re no where as thick as yours, I love them though. I wasn’t willing to go smaller because they would have been veryyyyyyy tiny and with my hair being thin I was scared they would break easily.
That is a nice number. I feel like 180 is a sweet spot between microlocs and bigger locs. You tend to get many of the styling options of microlocs without the long maintenance. 🤗🤗🤗
If you take good care of your locs, avoid tight styles and tight/frequent retwist, it won't thin out. Each loc can actually take the hair in the section. Smaller locs tend to thin out over time not because the locs get too heavy but because of bad practices that damage them (it is easier to damage small locs than bigger ones). ❤️❤️❤️

Semi freeform #microtwists #microlocs #greylocs with well over 330 locs yet to count them as yet! My scalp has less hair in the front than in the back so I choose smaller to medium locs with 8 to 10 weeks maintenance if not 3 months between #3pointrotation interlocking! My hair grows outside of the base loc so I tend to infrequently encourage that loose hair back into the base root of the loc. I have significant afro in between each parted grid section as My wispy fine hair is not keeping Her parts! She's quite "disrespectful" as Yanni the Locologist describes untouched healthy roots. I began with damaged, split, broken hair due to removal of Sisterlocks for more Freedom and artistic direction over My Journey.
I can't tell if I have medium or low density hair and I have fine strands. I want my hair to look fuller and maybe medium to smallish locs. How many do you think I need? Maybe 75?
Take this short quiz to find out what size of locs will work best for you.👇

I hv low density hair and i got not too skinny two strands twist as starter locs, won’t my hair thin out at the root as my hair locs and gets heavy

Can you use the Lilian Okibe for micro locs so it looks like sister locs
Yes, there is Lilian Okibe micro locs but it doesn't look like sisterlocks. It looks soft and fluffy just like my locs but a lot smaller.❤️❤️❤️
HI Lilian, if i want a medium size locs like how many locs can I go for? please
It depends on the density of your hair but about 100 ±10 should give you medium sized locs.❤️❤️❤️
I can't tell if I have medium or low density hair and I have fine strands. I want my hair to look fuller and maybe medium to smallish locs. How many do you think I need? Maybe 75?
I think about 90 locs would give you the desired look.❤️❤️❤️
What is the size of your loc
I have small traditional sized locs. 186 to be precise.❤️❤️❤️
Do you cover your locs at night???
So far, I don't but I sleep on a satin pillowcase. ❤️❤️❤️
The so called wiks or weeks or whatever the spelling is, it is not for me
It is spelled "wicks". I can imagine. 😂😂😂
😍
