Hi Don. Your channel is excellent. You are right about Columbus, Ohio weather. Winters were depressing to say the least. I grew up there and lived near Riverside Hospital. In HS during the late sixties we all had tri-fives. A friend had a 55 convertible with a 265 and it was still fast and the top still worked. I think it had power windows. I had a 57 Nomad that was beyond my mechanical skills at the time. It was always breaking down on the road. I sold it for $400 and had seller's remorse forever. I was tired of the weather so I moved here to Tucson Az where I bought a basket case 57 Nomad with very little rust. Well, I spent the money and had it professionally restored and would never sell this one. So I admire you that you have the patience and skill to work on Nomads and keep them alive. Thanks, Don. I am subscribed.
Hi Don , glad to see that you're back. I know how you feel it's always something that set you back , the weather the family your health. It's all part of life Don everybody has to deal with it. Keep up the good work you're getting there, we all believe in you and we can't wait to see the convertible running. The good weather is just around the corner 🏁🌞
Hey Don, glad to see your putting up a video for us dreamers. Most of us would love to own even one of those Tri-5s. You've been walking this line for some time now, and you know the solution, but you can't bring yourself to move forward on it. So don't torment yourself over it. You'll get to it. Happy Birthday Don
Happy Birthday Don! Good to see you out in the garage picking up, organizing and getting rid of excess items...it helps! I went through the same stuff in my 40's and am glad I kept the cars now that I'm retired and can finally get to them. Keep your chin up, it all goes fast! I will always be here with encouragement as I have been there too! Keep up the great work and take care!
Thanks Jeff! Yeah man as we get older we kinda look and things differently! I have alot of stuff from cars I don't own anymore. Always tend to keep little things that was hard to find for that car I was working on at the time. Just need a good cleaning and plan for the next few years. I agree time sure does go by way to fast anymore! Have a great week Buddy ✌
Just keep your chin up Don and enjoy your collection because no matter what you decide you have a great bunch of cars and it’s never a easy decision to let one go if that’s your decision , I guess you can always put that money into the ones you keep to get them closer to where you want them ?🤔🤔🤔
Back in high school (early mid '60s), my best friend had a maroon '55 Chevy convertible, he swapped a 283 into it w/Duntov 30-30 cam, 12:1 Jahns, Mallory, various carb setups including 4-2s for a couple months, 4 speed w/Hurst, 4.11 posi, chrome reverse wheels w/cheater slicks, no front bumper and tach on the dash... A true back yard garage high school kid hot rod, Great memories of cruising while listening to the "Duntov music" along with all the other great sounds of the time...While both of us were in the service later in the '60s, his folks had a junk yard haul it off, along with a '55 two door...Much to his horror.
Hey Keith! Yeah I can relate to that. All day the weather is looking great and the clouds and rain follow you home. Been there many times. Have a good one Buddy 👍
We left Ohio 40 plus years ago. Think after the winter of 78 maybe 80 we moved to Florida from Cleveland area lake county. Hello from Siesta Key Florida. Pack it up and move south, your mood will change 300 plus days of sunshine 😊
Thanks Bill! You sure did the right thing and moved south! I couldnt even imagine 300 days of sunshine, we get 80 a year if we lucky! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Happy Birthday Buddy. I’m glad to see you back on. It does good to take a break from everything, help focus the mind. What ever you decide to do if you down size you have one heck of a collection to be proud of. Talk to you soon stay safe out there driving. 👍😎✌️
Thanks Kevin! Yeah man im been busy at work and focusing on the house and everything else under the sun. I'm not sure which way I'll go on the cars I hate to part with any of them. Lol Have a good one Buddy 👍

Ill get one myself when I move. Anyhoo warm weather is coming soon & same cool weather here.....Take care..

Love what you're doing Don. Keep it up buddy. I'm a little older than you...just old school. I don't do Facebook either. Still scan craigslist and word of mouth. I'm working on a '55 210 4dr wagon. I've had it 38 years. Got it from my grandmother when I was 16. Put it up on blocks and covered it with a trucker tarp. I thought I was doing good buy the moisture pitted the roof of the car. Anyway I'm working on this project a little at a time. Doing everything myself. You are an inspiration. Thanks buddy!
Man Don I wish I had your problems I fall in love with those old hot rods everytime I see them the convertible is so sweet then I see it next to a nomad then 2 more nomads in the garage and you have the 56 it took me a min then you said it was April but it's August so that's why I don't see the 56 nomad it's still by your brother's. Man those car are so nice . Keep doing what your doing I love those cars
@@donshotrodgarage1717- I’m not sure of the actual name of the car cover brand I think it’s called seal skin but it has a soft material on the inside of the cover that eliminates that damage to the paint you’re experiencing, I haven’t used it but my buddy uses one on his 68 Camaro and he loves it, keep the videos coming and I hope you get your vision squared away I’m a retired teamster and I know what that feels like as you get older and have to pass your physical and vision tests to keep your CDL
Hey Big Don, same here with everything you just said, on my next video I’ll just tell them to go over and watch this video and I won’t have to do much talking, lol, I can never get enough of the 55 Rag Top it’s so sweet, have a great week and catch you soon my buddy 😀😀
Hey Mike! Yeah for sure man, im starting to realize most all of us have crappy weather! Lol Hope everything been going great for you and your family! Have a good one Buddy 👍 Be safe on your trip to Sea.
Hey Don Happy Birthday I just had a birthday myself turned 68 on 3 26. You have to keep your chin up because if you get rid of something it just makes it that much harder because we have this love and when we let it go it makes it a lot tougher I know I let some things go and I still regret it. This winter has been a hitch but when it comes back around things will pick up. I'm going to call you need someone to chat with, you're buddy Tony G.
Happy Birthday 🎂 Tony! Yeah winter just sticks around to long any more. I do agree the weatger will be changing soon around here. I'll talk to you soon Buddy👍
Looking good man, we’ve had a couple nice days and boy did I want to get a hot rod out . Life of the car sickness…lol , we all have it to some degree. Sunny days are just around the corner 👍👍. Shawn
Cool !! 58 Impala steering wheel in the ragtop! My favorite Chevy passion. About the same difference out here in Nebraska. Wind blows Constantly. I'm like you I like the old stuff also. I still have my first car. A 58 Impala bought in early 74 with 348 tri power all redone setting in the garage. Bought it after American Graffiti came out.. I'm 63 now. Anyway ya got some beautiful cars there. I would be proud to own any of them.
Glad everything is going good, and keep your head up. Enjoy your videos and you have some sweet rides. It was sunny and 89 today here in Glencoe oklahoma, and cool down to high 60's to low 70's this weekend
Great collection of Shoeboxes. Make sure the convertible stays inside. Happy birthday! I have an empty 2 car garage in Alabama you could store 2 in but I won't be responsible for tornado/hurricane damage.
Good to see you Don happy birthday. i sold my black 55 sedan a while ago and bought the ratty 57 wagon . so now i only have one 55, 56 and 57. but still have a bunch of other cool old cars an trucks. i moved from phila. pa to N.C. 13 years ago and i don't miss that weather back there at all. your clean up looks great and that old wood level is cool looking. take care and do what makes you happy.
Thanks Jim! I didn't know you sold your 55 sedan im sure that made someone very happy! You sure do have alot of cool cars and I agree you made the right choice moving to NC! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Hi Don thank you for the video. It’s the first one I have seen. Today like you I’m in the garage waiting for the weather to get better. This should cheer up all you guys down south. Our forecast for tonight is minus 4 degrees Celsius, and more snow next week. That’s Red Deer Alberta , anyway I have owned 3 567 Chevys. Your cars are amazing! My better half would only agree to one at time and that worked, fix one drive it enjoy it sell it make some money on it. Get another one do the same thing over again. You are not a hoarder just a guy that has a very good idea of what people like and the values of retaining a good investment. Waiting for the snow to melt and watch your next video. Thanks again W Service.
Thanks Brad! Geez that sure does sound cold and more snow! By this time of the year im ready for green grass and sunny days! I have alot to work on and ready fot better weather! I agree your plan to build drive and sell is a great way to enjoy old Hot Rods! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Happy Birthday buddy , I'm just like you I'm old school as they come . I've been there also with not enough garage space so I'm gonna bite the bullet and build a bigger garage in my backyard . Keep up the work you've made a good progress on that convertible .
Happy Birthday Don, take good care of yourself and do what you want and need to do. There are ebbs and flows in all parts of our lives, best to you and yours brother!
Two of my all time favourite vehicles. '55 conv and '56 nomad. When I had toys, no place to put 'em. Now that I have a nice place to put 'em, I have no money left to purchase any toys.
Looks great to me. I'm nearing 75 a day I have '13 Suburban that's my hot rod, it's a white LTZ with chrome 22"s and I love it. I regret not keeping at least one of my 2 door 55-6-or 7s. Most I ever spent was $300.00. The 56 was a Nomad. I also have an 06 Dyna Wide Glide gorgeous, lowered, and loud and proud. My point, you are still very young and alive !! Enjoy every day. For me days just blow by like that wind you mentioned !! Thanks for the video.
Good to see you Don that weather can get you down we’re had the worst summer for about five years rain cyclones it’s been nice weather here for about three weeks and winter is about to start I wouldn’t make any rash decisions till the weather gets better 👍🏼take it easy mate 👍🏼🍺😎🇳🇿 12:36
Hey, Big Don. I told you last time I got a spot in the shop for that 57 Nomad, right next to my 57 Bel Air Wagon. I'm in S.E. Montana. It gets cold here but its dry and clean and safe. I got no problem storing her for ya, and if you feel like you might want to adopt her out, well I'll give her a good home out here in tiny town. I got a 58 Ambassador in the garage as well so she'd have some good company with the Harley and the Indian. And Hell Yes, you are always welcome to visit and stay awhile if you need to hide out and find your Mojo. We got lots of room and I can always use a new friend. Think about it. Just givin' ya some options...,
Bad thing is if you sell one of your chevys its going to be hard and expensive if you decide to replace them my problem is to many Mopars and AMC thanks for sharing have a good one
Hey Don, I know what you mean, we are waiting for the weather to change here too, it’s been one storm after another. We’ve gotten more rain this year than we have in years. It’ll be decent weather , hopefully sooner than later. Hard to get motivated in gloomy weather. Have a good one 👍🏻
Hey JJ! I've seen on the news California has had alot of rain lately! Your right the gloomy days don't do much for excitement! Warm nicer days will be here soon! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Don, greetings from Clarkston Michigan...yep we've been having crazy weather here as well and yeah those cars need protection but we do what we do brother .. great videos on the tri fives that I love as well ...glad you're able to find some and save some ...no longer have my 57 or 55 and watching youre videos are bring back those memories haha..thanks for sharing / T
Hi Don, Good to see you again while I have been recouping from getting a new hip. I wish I could work on the car but can't right now. On your car outside, pick up an old comforter from a Queen size bed or packing pads from a moving company and put it on the car first before you cover it. It will protect the paint. The weather is going to get better. Just give it a couple of weeks. Before you know it, you will be finishing the convertible and enjoy driving it. Then you will be wondering when you will have time to finish the 57. Enjoy life. You're still young. I remember in my 40s when I had to start wearing glasses, it was shocking, but you get used to it. At least you can see, some people can't. Always consider yourself lucky. You are on this side of the dirt. Enjoy it while you can. BTW Happy Birthday and counting. We just took my wife out for hers.
Thanks Brad! Yeah I didn't realize how most the USA has the same weather as Ohio. We all just have to hang in there warm weather will be here soon. Have a great weekend Buddy ✌️
Yep .... I'm in Ocean Shores Wa. State, And I have a one car garage and three vettes 77, 92,96 and the weather just eats them up. And a car cover is bad for a car, I do have shelters for them, but that salt air still gets in.
Coral Gables 🌴🇺🇸 Hehe. We Summer up in Vermilion Ohio on Lake Erie. Wouldn't want to be there year round. 👎 So spoiled here with great Miami weather ! 🏄
Hey your a lucky guy to have that many Tri 5's. Many would be happy to have one 😂😂😂 I'm guessing the level was in the dumpster because it wasn't accurate. That's right, it's highly likely that it did not show correct level or plumb. When I've shopped for a new level in the past, I always check them against a horizontal and vertical surface before purchasing. I checked 8 levels before I found a good one. I'm not going to tell you how to do it here as it would take Alot of words to explain it all. If you'd like me to tell you, I ll do it in another commet. 😂
Hey Matt! Yup you probably have the same exact weather around there. Just be nice to have some sunny dry days for a change. Better weather will be here soon. Have a good one Buddy 👍
To all of the people telling you to build a bigger garage ; It doesn't work guys , if you aren't bringing home more parts and tools , yet another damn car follows you home . I speak from experience , a 44 X 54 is not nearly big enough . Six cars and trucks will do that to you . Keep your head down Don , severe weather heading my way and then on to you late Tuesday into Wednesday .
i feel your pain , im in michigan the weather just wont let up ,and i like you have 4 hot rods and not enough garage to fit it all im stuck with a car and a half garage , but im building a new one , cannot handle the garage gymnastics anylonger finding anything or moving around , im pushing 60 though , good luck with the mojo i found mine by going to autorama in detroit and meeting my hot rod hero Gene Winfield now im choping at the bit to get back to my build 67 gto
Great to see you back! starting to wonder what was up? Couple bad storms over here by Youngstown and maybe one coming Wednesday Hope not! I got three Edsels sitting out(covered) but it hurts to do that. Two garages full. LOL! Take care and gear up for better weather.
Hey Lee! Yeah man ive just been focusing on other stuff in life right now. I hope to get back to the cars and more regular videos real soon. I hate to have anything outside but I also hate to sell anything! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Hey Bud Glad to see you, I wish I had a answer for you but this weather seems to get to us and slow us down fore sure. Well Don Happy 45 birthday u think life is crazy I was 42 and a Grand pal, and as of last night my third great yell great Grand child was born LoL . Bud keep it going u figure it out man ✌️.
Hey Don just saw your video early this morning 4/ 8 anyway love your collection my first car was a 55 Chevy Bellaire 2dr hdt wad the turquoise & white the same color interior ( stock) outside was painted midnight blue metallic Crager SS mags .I know what you mean Midwest weather I live in Joliet , IL only a short window to get things done and even getting to enjoy your toys . BTW Same first name . Yes there seems the older you get time becomes a precious commodity and priorities change . Im 68 now and the kid in me is hard to keep lit !!! ( lol )
Do you have the tarp drawn down tightly over the roof of the car? That should impede abrasion. Also you can stick a blanket under the tarp to mitigate abrasion. Kelly Superchargers on them slots! That's old school. Looks like sanding dust on the right front of the '57, rain water hits it and carries it down. Or maybe bird crap.

That level is beautiful, thanks for saving it!
I'm in Chicagoland and it used to drive me nuts, planning all day to do something, only to have it snow or rain before I got home.

First time seeing you channel and Don Good job beautiful cars I live in Indianapolis I know the feeling about the weather.
Happy Birthday buddy , I'm just like you I'm old school as they come . I've been there also with not enough garage space so I'm gonna bite the bullet and build a bigger garage in my backyard . Keep up the work you've made a good progress on that convertible .
I know what you mean about the old days. My 55 was built in November 1954 and my birthday is the month.
Hey Ed! Happy birthday Buddy and you can't be how simple life was years ago. Have a good one Buddy 👍
Happy Birthday Don, take good care of yourself and do what you want and need to do. There are ebbs and flows in all parts of our lives, best to you and yours brother!
Awesome collection. I grew up in that era. Too bad you don't have a heated barn to store those beauties.
Looking good happy birthday buddy 🎉all the best
Thanks Doug!
Two of my all time favourite vehicles. '55 conv and '56 nomad. When I had toys, no place to put 'em. Now that I have a nice place to put 'em, I have no money left to purchase any toys.
Very nice set of my favorite cars dude , I am in Ontario we know the weather ☁️☁️🌡️ too.
Nice to see another video Don!
Supposed to be 75 and (not a day)
Good to see you Don that weather can get you down we’re had the worst summer for about five years rain cyclones it’s been nice weather here for about three weeks and winter is about to start I wouldn’t make any rash decisions till the weather gets better 👍🏼take it easy mate 👍🏼🍺😎🇳🇿 12:36
Hey Buddy! Yeah your right about the weather it'll get you down. I hope soon we will get some good working weather! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Hello Don good to see you again. Hope you are doing well.
Thanks Mike! All is well man I hope you've been doing great! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Good to see you're back, Happy early Birthday!
Thanks Man! Have a good one ✌️
Just givin' ya some options...,
Looking good after all the cleanup!
Thanks Man! It sure made a difference! Have a good one
Summer is a coming, hang in there
Thanks Peter! It's on the way! Have a good one Buddy 👍
YOU HAVE SOME BEAUTIFUL CARS
Thanks Buddy! It has taken a while to find all these cars! Have a good one 👍
Bad thing is if you sell one of your chevys its going to be hard and expensive if you decide to replace them my problem is to many Mopars and AMC thanks for sharing have a good one
Hey Dave! Yeah that's for sure the price people ask for cars anymore is just insane! Good luck with your cars. Have a good one Buddy 👍

Thanks Frederick! Crazy but try Furnace to A/C in one day. Have a good one Buddy 👍
Hi cool cars
Thanks Dara! Have a good one ✌️
Hey Don,
I know what you mean, we are waiting for the weather to change here too, it’s been one storm after another.
Hi Don looking good man
Thanks Darren! I hope you jump on these cars again soon. Have a good one Buddy 👍
Very cool!!!! 👍👍
Keep the faith Don you’ll pass that test
I have a 68 charger under a tarp up here in Vermont and on those snowy, rainy, windy nights that's all I can think about.
Hi Don,
Good to see you again while I have been recouping from getting a new hip.
Keep it up Don!! Happy Birthday!
One nice classic car is enough to keep up with and enjoy the money from the sale of whichever you decide to get rid of
Hey Brian! Yeah I think that same way sometimes! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Hi- I really like your collection of tri-fives…I hope you find your mojo soon.
Thanks Glenn! I'll get back to them real soon. Have a good one Buddy 👍
Same way in Nebraska Don. They say might hit the 70s next week. Hoping to get after a few things. Take care man.
Thanks Brad! Yeah I didn't realize how most the USA has the same weather as Ohio. We all just have to hang in there warm weather will be here soon. Have a great weekend Buddy ✌️
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG DON
Thanks Chris! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Yep .... I'm in Ocean Shores Wa. State, And I have a one car garage and three vettes 77, 92,96 and the weather just eats them up. And a car cover is bad for a car, I do have shelters for them, but that salt air still gets in.
This Ohio weather is crazy but its getting better. Take care buddy and keep moving forward.
Hey Jim! Yeah the warmer weather will be here soon! Hope you all are doing great Buddy✌️
I'm in Ohio as well it's hard to get going when it's cold and rainy keep your head up I have 3 old cars looking warm weather again
Coral Gables 🌴🇺🇸 Hehe. We Summer up in Vermilion Ohio on Lake Erie. Wouldn't want to be there year round. 👎 So spoiled here with great Miami weather ! 🏄
Man I know what you mean about the weather. I'm in Ashland, Ky and you've got to keep things in a garage to keep them nice.
Yup Scott they have to stay inside to stay safe! Weather is the biggest thing to deal with if you have old cars! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Hey your a lucky guy to have that many Tri 5's. Many would be happy to have one 😂😂😂
I'm guessing the level was in the dumpster because it wasn't accurate. 😂
New gye here. Like the "tri 5s" is ok with me, hording approved . Thank you for the video.
Thanks Buddy! Yeah nothing wrong with hoarding in my book. Have a good one✌️
Hey Don good to see you!
Being in western PA, I know exactly what you mean about the weather 🙃
Hang in there buddy!!!
Hey Matt! Yup you probably have the same exact weather around there. Just be nice to have some sunny dry days for a change. Better weather will be here soon. Have a good one Buddy 👍
Sounds to me like you need to "take a step back " brother , and draw up plans for a bigger garage !! 🤣 . The rods are just fine 🙂
You’re a good man big Don. Keep up the good fight-
Thanks Tore! Have a good one Buddy 👍
Hey there Big Don! I like all of your cars but that 55 convertible is just killer dude! Good to see ya!
Regards from Ody Slim
