    I gotta say you're a brave woman to tackle a big fixer upper like this. I don't think I would have the patience to wait for it to be done. But I can't wait to see it when it is done. I'm sure it will be beautiful. 💗😀

    Warm water with fabric softener works wonders to remove wallpaper. Done it a few times. Can use a 50/50 mix anywhere you need to remove anything from the walls.

    just spray some water on the wallpaper and let it soak in for a little.The wallpaper will come off muuuch easier. it really does work so well. try it

      Michelle Cookie we were trying to remove wallpaper in our house and putting vinegar in a spray bottle works SOO. well!

      It’s especially good if you use warm water, it melts the wall paper glue!!

    • @HermioneChantal
      @HermioneChantal  6 лет назад +15

      Thank you for the tip 😊 We started with a spray bottle then it broke after about three sprays 🙈 we ended up using a wet flannel to dampen the walls but the bottle works so much better, this has reminded me to go and get a new one 💖

    • @kiki29073
      @kiki29073 6 лет назад +2

      Yes, soak it down with hot water and keep it wet. It will come of easily then. I've done this for a living working with husband in our home repair business. There is also an additive that you can spray on called Diff here in the USA. It works well with plenty of hot water.

    • @kiki29073
      @kiki29073 6 лет назад +2

      Hermione Chantal Use a pump up sprayer like you would use for spraying for bugs. You should be able to find them in a garden center.

    Love that you can find a plasterer ... here in the States a Contractor would just gut the plaster and put up crappy drywall :(

  • @Fishka5678

    Definitely put insolation under the floor! ww did underfloor heating in our victorian house... Celotex etc.. the best decision ever in those cold days!
    Definitely insulation as this house will be so cold ... trust me..

    • @HermioneChantal
      @HermioneChantal  6 лет назад +4

      Thank you so much for the advice, that's definitely something we've been considering seeing as the floorboards will be up anyway, it's just hard knowing if it will be a worthwhile investment. But this comment makes me think that it's totally worthwhile, so thank you! :)

    • @Fishka5678
      @Fishka5678 6 лет назад +2

      It will be, at least celotex underneath. A little bit longer and pricy but what a difference! In my friend's victorian house carpet was frozen yesterday, as she has only floorboards. Worth extra hassle.. This is for years.
      Go on Instagram. ( I have an account myself) and have a look how people are renovating victorian houses.

    Love it! I´m also doing renovations like this in my flat and I know how hard it is to remove the wallpaper.
    Tip: If you have to remove more wallpaper, first wet the walls with water and a little of fabric conditioner then wait for 5 minutes and it will come out very well

    • @HermioneChantal

    Brilliant job Hermione. Trust me, I've been there and am currently 60% of the way through a 5 bed Victorian house after several years. It's incredibly satisfying bringing a knocked about old house up to scratch but also unnerving, exhausting, emotionally taxing and intellectually challenging in perpetual rotation. Yours is a lovely property with incredible potential and wonderful original features. Please be patient and remember your sense of humour. Your resilience and stamina will be key. Good luck and Happy New Year!

    In 2003, my husband and I attempted to renovate a 21 room Victorian in the Midwest, USA. We sank a ton of money into it, but you could barely tell it. It was one problem after another, and the house was so big that we couldn't keep up with it. We finally gave up and bought a remodeled 1960s ranch, and we're about to put our Victorian up for sale. Watch out for asbestos. It could be in the plaster and even in floor and wall adhesives. Good luck with the renovation!

    The house is in such a bad shape it's almost scary to look at! But I can see there's a lot of potential in there, and I think it's lovely it's finally getting the renovation it needs! It would be a waste to just let it rot away completely. Thanks for letting us see the transformation, Hermione!

    Great video! Currently also in the process of renovating a house so it's fun to watch your progress as well. And tell me about the wall paper. We actually rented a steam machine for a few days to remove the wallpaper and it went so fast! Would never do it without that again. You just hold it over the wallpaper for like 10 seconds and it scrapes right off!

  • @justforyouenjoy

  • @deckarinnan
    @deckarinnan 6 лет назад

    My tip for removing wallpaper is to mix wallpaper glue and water ca 50/50. (the wallpaper glue holds the moisture) After application put plastic on top and let the work do it self. After a few hours or overnight just scrape it off. You can spray wather on parts that have dried up. If it is several thick layers you might have to repeat the procedure.

    Personally I think you are restoring a bit of history. You and Ben will always be thankful you spent your time on this massive project. No one. Absolutely no one will ever truly understand the amount of blood sweat and tears and ❤️LOVE that you guys are pouring into your restoration. I pray it will stand the test of time and be a lovely forever home for many generations to come.

    Me and my fiancé are fixing up our first house together, we’ve found some really horrible things that the survey didn’t pick up, we had asbestos tiles on the floors which we had to take up, we had to replace all the heating and electricity, the wallpaper had been just layered on top for the last 60 years so we’ve found some pretty vibrant colours, we had the same problem with the plaster in our house as well, we also had to replace all the ceilings, we’ve been working on the house since November 2017 and we’re hoping to be finished by April, the kitchen is going in next week, I know exactly what you mean about feeling like some things are going really slowly, but you’ve done loads so far and once it’s all done it will look amazing 😍

    • @HermioneChantal
      @HermioneChantal  6 лет назад

      That sounds like such a nightmare for you both, especially the asbestos tiles 😔 they're a nightmare to remove! So sorry to hear the survey didn't pick up on those things.
