Van Gaal just beat Berhalter with experience, his style can be boring at times but Van Gaal has been there and seen it at this point, i think you lot should be proud and remember this tournament is mainly preperation for 2026, where i think you should aim for the semis (quarters at least), i think leading up to the next world cup you should play more South American sides, one of your biggest problems in my opinion is CONCACAF, the best teams are you, Mexico (not that good compared to the South Americans) and in recent years Canada are emerging and Costa Rica have done well, when i say South Americans i dont even mean the heavyweights (Argentina or Brazil) i think games vs the likes of Uruguay, Chile and Colombia would benefit you lot massively

@@mrmr5580 why would you expect the US to get at least to QF or even semis with the WC we’ve had over the last I don’t know 4 world cups? That’s not even getting into group phase matchups and bracket placement or hell even the fact that teams like France, England, Brazil and even Spain and Portugal have lots of young talent. It not bad to be optimistic, but when you set the bar so high, without basis, you set yourself up for failure. I’ve heard pundits praising the team for qualifying against CONCACAF squads that frankly are not comparable to the type of opponents we’ll face in the world cup. Still a long way to go…

@@mrmr5580 I honestly think we just need a head coach who has absolutely no relation to or experience with MLS or the USSF. The only good players in those systems are either foreign giants ending their careers with grace or homegrown talent that succeeds in spite of the way people are brought into the sport here in the US, not because of it. Our Olympics record clearly shows that we have what it takes to foster world class athletes. It's just that out of the 330-340 million people in this country, seemingly none of them can actually wield that talent effectively. The moment we can either find or bring in someone that can use what we have, we'll be punching well above our weight. Until that happens though, Gregg's formula will continue to make us easy pickings for even mildly competent coaches.

honestly, as an Australian, hearing the shortcomings that Gregg had is exactly how I felt about Graham Arnold when we lost to Japan and Saudi Arabia, after him putting us in a position that those two were must wins with pathetic draws against Oman and China
but also hearing Max talk about the "spirit and belief" is basically what Graham Arnold instilled in our boys, in a much more impressive fashion when you put the US team and Australia team next to eachother, I think however Australia might get a boost with the assistant manager (who is currently René Meulensteen, ya know, the guy who was under Sir Alex for yonks) and I, and a lot of others let's be real, believe he has a not insignificant amount of help with tactics

Do Australian fans ever wonder if their endless toxicity drove Ange Postecoglou away? Because Australian’s have broadly whinged about every single manager they’ve had since Hiddink, and only cause he left before they could start the moaning. 😂

@@blinkusfishus2052 I disagree on saying Arnold's copped too much flack
it wasn't the games against Saudi and Japan, they're at least good teams, it was the position he put us in before them, no Australia team should be drawing to China and Oman, especially not a China team that LOST TO VIETNAM IN THE SAME QUALIFYING it was a complete disgrace
Postecoglou had his favourites and just ruined the team with negative tactics and allaround not really doing what was right and all in all didn't adapt to what he had
Australia need a brilliant tactician for the NT and Arnold isn't that but I, and many others, believe Meulensteen is just that, and with Arnold's brilliance as a man manager it's, finally, shown to be the mix we need

I’ll be honest- as an England fan, the USA have always surprised me and I knew they’d be good but not this good. If they had a better coach you would have been England. I knew Pulistic, Adams and McKennie were good but Musah is amazing. How we let him go I don’t know just like Musiala- I’m glad we’re making great talent now after a decade of nothing (even if they go to other countries). If you build on this tournament, focus away from ‘pay to play’ and create a wider grassroots base in all communities. Then you have a bright future and you never know- winning a World Cup might be in this century
