When Z clipping, you would still be falling on the highest piece of protection, but with a higher fall factor. If the top piece of protection fails, you would have twice as much shock loading on the next piece of protection due to the extension being double what it would have been if clipped properly.

We called toe-tuck "rope-leg" in my training. Best way I found to think of it is always try to keep the order wall-rope-body.
