Maybe you could use some silicone and mold that plastic piece, then you won't even have to throw it away. Just thinking. It's an amazing idea, ty for the share
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts I was also watching the whole thinking you should do a resin pour one time to seal the sand in there so you never even have to dump....maybe do both of these ideas together! cast a silicone piece and then fill it with a resin sealed sand block for weight!

GENIUS! Thank you for all your videos. Not only are you informative but you are quite entertaining. Love love love binge watching your videos. Keep it up and keep me laughing. 😘
Yes yes yes...I did a pyramid and put a clear party cup in the center and it did save a ton of resin...then I was able to put fairy lights inside the party cups, which you can't tell there's a cup in it, and then the lights are gorgeous...but I'm very new at this so I still need alot of help...these are GORGEOUS!!!
The 3 houses on a base with lights and some of your tiny fence pieces etc would make a fantastic night light, or each one by itself for a small light. Brilliant idea!
I just happened on this video and became a subscriber. I use water bottles for the pyramids and that saves lots. Thought you were very clever with your little pots. Most of my work is clear with flowers but I can save big on the pyramids. Good day from the USA!
thats brilliant Steve - always great to make savings. I made a pyramid, and totally messed up - the only thing I got right, was putting something similar in to make space for lights and to save on the resin - the remainder, working upside down was an epic fail for me, so, I very much look forward to that tutorial :-) hope you had a lovely Christmas x - Im saying nothing about the vaseline........ lol
Excellent tip! I'd seen something similar done with the pyramids for lights installation, but hadn't thought about smaller molds. I've got quite a few small cake molds that this method would save a bunch on!
In a previous video you said that alcohol ink fades with resin. Well , I make tumblers with inks in resin to make for some very long lasting colors , and pigments as well...
I'm a fairly new sub. The more I watch you honey, the better I like you. Your quirky personality is rather like my own. Maybe you better hope you're not as crazy as me lol. (in a really fun way of course) I love the way you've come up with these money saving tips. Brilliant. Thank you for all your hard work you do putting into these videos and ideas for us. Happy New Year.
Those look great and I can see it looking good on a nice piece of dark wood with the lights inside. I hope you had a lovely Christmas and I wish you a happy and safe New year.
OMG!!!! I would have never thought of that. Many many thanks Steve you just saved me money so grateful 🙏 your houses are super cute with the lights would make a beautiful town under the Christmas tree. That technique probably wouldn't work for a diorama would it? Once again great video thank you for your great ideas. 👍 hugs from Quebec Canada 🫂
I save the little pots left over from condiments from McDonalds, KFC etc. that we have everything once in a while. We even save & use big pot of yogurts to small pots & pot noodle pots, small plastic containers from a take away ask my family to save theirs as well. Instead of sand I use baking beans, uncooked rice, pasta, dried beans, lentils, pearl barley etc. I spray a small amount of mould release spray into the bottoms of these pots & use a small clean make up brush to coat the pots & if there is some that pool at the bottom, I then pour it into the next pot & repeat the process. I use some left over bits of resin to fill up some of these tiny little pots almost to the very top of the sauce pots (leave about 5mm gap) & I even pour some into the bottoms of bigger pots as well. I do put a small coating of mould release spray first. If it’s a big pot, as the resin is thickening up & starting to cure, I stick a cocktail stick or clean lollipop stick in them. For the small pots, I decide if I like the colour combinations I may leave out adding a cocktail or cake pop sticks & use some uv resin to attach a magnet to them to then use them on fridges or notice boards. The pots with the sticks in them I use them as moulded weights for the pots instead of sand or rice etc. When the resin is cured I store them in a plastic container & when I want to make a hollow area in my resin work, like Steve has done in this video, I get my little resin pot weights & place them into similar shaped moulds they were made in or put several small ones into a bigger pot as a weight. I hope this helps others & I apologise for rambling & probably explaining this in a long way rather than a shorter version. Enjoy crafting guys 😊
This is a good idea ive been mixing my resin with salt it creates a good effect and makes me use less resin and makes my piece lighter but when I want a clear piece I'll try this method
very neat. Good way to create pieces that will be lit up as well. :D I would use marbles instead of sand as I have plenty of marbles plus I use the sand for crafting so might run out at some point. :P Also those little cook stones used when making pastry or pie crusts would work well to keep the pots weighted down. Thanks for sharing and wishing you all the best for 2021. :D - Heidi

That is simply genius, and on bonus if its bit sea through you can later add led lights if you wish to turn it into lamp 😎👌
Love it!
this is so cool omg, I like the light-up house lol
Ooh! Think how many island pendants(getting mold next week!) I could make with that amount of resin!! Those little machine coffee pods would work too!
Very good idea. I think I'd opt for stones instead of sand to avoid getting sand in the resin, but I'm clumsy.
These would be great for a fairy garden or fairy house for a plant! ❤️❤️❤️
Your houses could be a little village under a Christmas tree💖. Thnx so much for this awesome idea
Love the little box you keep your pliers etc in❤️and patiently waiting to see you doing this method with a pyramid
Nice to know how to save more! Thanks so much
Fun idea! Saving resin is always a good thing. Battery operated tealights might also be an option to safely illuminate the house molds.

Mate, love your videos!!!!.... you really inspired me to be creative with resin. Thank you so much!!!!....🦋🌻
Wow didn't know you would be saving that much
So very happy for discovering your super brilliant channel....
That is a great idea. I usually use the larger moulds for my leftovers and although that gives an interesting effect, this is a much better idea.
If it's something where weight is a concern, filler material, like foil or clay works as well. Makes it more stable than empty space too
