    Glad you started with acrylic paint as I just had a mold not set right where I used acrylic color/resin to highlight some details. It was a liquid acrylic paint and my ratio was more like 1:1 🙄 also the tip about letting the resin set up a bit before adding heavier things like glitter so they don’t settle. Very useful info

  • @ABJILL033
    @ABJILL033 3 года назад +14

    Mica brushed direct into the mould gives a different effect, especially brushed around the edges. Food colour also comes in a concentrated colour paste form which would reduce the water content. Another way of using stickers or art work on paper is to use uv resin on it first not sure if it would work on watercolour, but works well for images coloured with pencils or alcohol markers.

    • @WaxWitch
      @WaxWitch Год назад +2

      I work with UV resin almost exclusively, and the UV resin will still soak into paper-based products. I seal them with either packing tape, or duralar and modpodge. Sometimes the modpodge will soak into the paper and/or ruin watercolor paints. UV resin doesn't bond well with regular resin either, so it is better to use exclusively one or the other unless you seal the UV resin piece completely without it touching the edge of your mold.

    The 2nd bar w/mica powder is quite a nice shade of red and the shine, so nice! Well, I certainly got something out of this. The translucence of the alcohol ink is subtle enough for something behind it, and like candy, 🍬I thought of a jolly rancher, lol, I think I'll give it a try.

    Thanks for the comprehensive video. I'm fairly new to 2 part epoxy, having used UV resin more. I like how the epoxy allows for use of opaque mix-ins.
    I have used glitter, mica powder, and glow in the dark powder. I tried some cheap alcohol ink, but it was so cheap, i did not get good results unless i used so much that the cured resin piece stayed somewhat soft.

  • @karenneill9109

    Pebeo vitrail colours are fantastic! They are clear or opaque, they are so pigmented that i only use a teenie bit on a toothpick. They're artist colours, so they're easy to combine to get just the right shade. (Not that that is key for you, but cheap stuff always goes muddy). Theyre much more affordable than resin pigments. They hit the right balance of cost and quality for me. I use mostly UV resin, but it acts very similarly to two part resins, and I've seen others use them in two part resin.

    Thank you so much for the video and the time it took you to make it. I have tried some of the things you use and not trade some of them. I have never used alcohol ink, but I do kind of like that transparent look of it for certain things. I have used one thing that you didn’t try, but I’ve probably used in the past to get a very bright, beautiful, white white I tried putting Windsor and Newton Ink.
    I just had an idea as I wrote this and thought maybe I would try the Windsor and Newton white designer gouache, which is also very white, but I’ve never tried it in resin. I’ll let you know if it works and how it looks.
    I must say that I just happened upon your video when I was looking for different things to color resin and I just love your easy, unhurried style. I do not love to be rushed about so I thank you for your teaching style.

    Thank you for posting this tutorial it is a great resource for someone who is just starting out with resins. I am making wood and resin charcuterie boards and one thing everyone is concerned about is whether the combination of resin and wood is food safe and my research says once the resin is cured it is food safe. I like the look of the sample you made with the micro glitter and I would like to try it in one of my charcuterie boards but I am worried the glitter may come off in the food. Can you advise what you think in regards to some glitter made coming off ?
