DAY 19: the BEST Petrified Wood | Zion to Green River Hike VLOG

  • Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
  • Day 19 of my backpacking journey from Zion National Park to Green River, Utah in spring of 2022. After coming up Wolverine Canyon I visited the amazing petrified wood site and reminisced about visiting it and nearby areas as a kid with my family. From there I traveled an interesting cross-country stretch and to the Burr Trail. After doing a re-supply via my cache, I dropped down into the Waterpocket Fold and Capitol Reef National Park.
    * NOTE: this video shows some great petrified wood, but collecting is NOT allowed here in the national monument or in national parks or otherwise protected areas. Collecting IS allowed with certain restrictions in other areas though. The various collected specimens shown from my past were all legally taken from areas outside protected boundaries.
I hope you enjoy this vlog-style experiment with daily videos to re-live my big hike from earlier this year. Some days will be short, some will be long -- but each will represent one day of hiking and hopefully include something new and fun to watch!
    Thanks for watching!

My dad was an outdoorsman, fishing and hunting in Missouri on weekends. But dad never left Missouri! I was lucky that my occupation took me to other states; California, Utah and presently Arizona (now retired here.) I've lived in Green River and Kanab and owned a business in Moab. Utah is best to explore by far. I also introduced this passion to my children.

Oh, how your video touched home with me today. Your story of your dad is exactly what happened to me. We have always lived in Michigan, but my father every June would pile his family in the car to go exploring in the West. We spent much time in Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, Montana, far west and Banif and Jasper in Canada. Just like you, he instilled in me the love of nature and to keep on exploring. My father passed many years ago, but I tried my hardest to carry on with my family the same virtue of exploring and I am thrilled to say they "caught the bug" too and are exploring with their families. I am 70 and still enjoy all this exploring and will continue as long as I can. I love your videos and know the area quite well where you are hiking. Will you be exiting Capitol Reef near Hanksville and near the Angel Of Death Rock?
