Thanks for watching and the nice comment! 🌞👍 It's funny -- I originally didn't plan on having friends with me or making a video for this trip -- but in the end I'm very glad about both. Cheers! ✌
An amazing post! Thank you for taking all of us that will never be able to see this amazing place! Can't believe you took your friends, that have never back country hiked, on this hike with all the slippery rocks and water! Best, from Colorado!
Thanks! Yeah they loved it and did really well for first-time backpackers. In fact... I was the one that took a spill on the slick rocks on this hike -- face-first into the stream! 🙄 I said I did it to show them what NOT to do! 😉👍
Thanks! I know I sound like a wimp, but any time the temps get close to freezing I'd rather be indoors! 🥶 With the proper gear cold-weather backpacking isn't that terrible -- but I like going lightweight and enjoying those balmy 50-degree nights. 🌞👍

Absolutely beautiful. The tree colors are amazing. But this water looks freezing cold 😁 Good job guys I did this hike 4 years ago during summer and I have to say it was the best hike I ever made in my life. This video makes me dream about doing it again. Little death hollow ist out of this world. Happy hiking from Germany...
Thanks! Yeah, in many ways I prefer hiking in late spring, but this really is a special area when the leaves turn for autumn. Thanks for watching and the comment! 🌞✌
Always a good day when another Jamal video comes out. What a great time of year to hike. Love the fall colors. Please please please do another daily video log series of your long hike like you did two times ago.
Thanks! Yes, it was a nice season to be out there. I had some unexpected delays over the last few months, BUT... the extended VLOG series for my big hike from last spring is still coming! Thanks for being interested and watching! 🌞✌
Excellent! Fall is about my favorite season. I enjoyed watching with my morning coffee. Thanks for sharing, Jamal and happy holidays to you and yours!✌️
Yep -- I agree, it's just an amazing season out there. I really should try to make this an annual event (ie shorter trip in autumn that is.) Thanks for watching! 🌞
As always, my wife and I loved watching your southern Utah videos! I witnessed the solar eclipse at the Stateline Campground after finishing the Arizona Trail the day before - cool experience.

Yeah!! It's Jamal!! What a wonderful surprise to see you pop up on our feed tonight! Always wanted to hike the entire Boulder Mail Trail ever since we day hiked it in from Hwy 12. Got to where it dropped into Death Hollow, looked down and said to ourselves, we don't need to hike all the way down AND back up that today. So had a snack, enjoyed the view and went back to camp. Thanks so much!!! PS: liking the purple shirt. You should add it to your hiking wardrobe.
This was actually my first time on the full eastern portion of the BMT. I've done the western portion several times, but last spring was the first time exiting Death Hollow to east -- but even then I headed south from Slickrock Saddle back to the river. I'm glad I've done it all now, but you are right -- it's a big climb back UP out of the Death Hollow! Thanks for watching and the comment! 🌞✌

So very nice to see this adventure. I saw the eclipse from my point of view in Vernal. I also want to say how much I appreciate your musical selections again. These are some of my favorites among your videos. Today I hiked the Box Canyon just out from Josie Morris's cabin in Dinosaur.
Very cool -- that's a good area that I hope to explore more some day. Thanks for watching and the comment. Glad you like the music -- it's always a challenge to find stuff that works. Cheers! 🌞✌
One of my biggest fears is freeze-dried food, too. I never how it's going to sit with my stomach during the night :/ But great to see a new video, and as a bonus, it's one I could do!

In spring I headed south from the Slickrock Saddle area back to the river and along the way there appeared to be a better/more-direct route into Sand Creek but I didn't check it out. I've read that that upper section of Sand can be pretty brutal with brush and one section with deep pools. BUT... that could still be fun! 😉✌
Wow! Thanks for such a great video of the Death Hollow hike. I've always wanted to do this hike and had an opportunity many years ago, but from the description the hike leader gave me, I was pretty sure it would be just a bit beyond my capability. It was the poison ivy that decided it for me! I would love to know how you handle the poison ivy. Looked like it was unavoidable. It was so gorgeous down there. Thank you so much for letting me see it.
Awesome -- glad you enjoyed the video! I'm lucky in that poison ivy has never affected me even though I walk right through it. I don't think the variety here is that potent -- otherwise there'd likely be more people complaining about it. I realize it's anecdotal evidence -- but I only know one person to have gotten it along this route despite its abundance. I think the worst of it can be avoided by walking in the water in a few spots though. Thanks for watching! 🌞✌
Jamal, so good to see you back on trail with your excellent videos. It seemed you really liked the company of friends along. Question--When do you think you will be publishing the day by day of your Grand Escalante Loop trip from Spring of 2023?

I still hoped to have them out BEFORE the end of the year, but that's not going to happen now due to some MORE setbacks. But... it shouldn't be too much longer now (Mid-January is very likely.) Stunning! I was in the Escalante are for the Eclipse too and it another stunning place. I have a question! Assuming you exited Death Hollow on the BMT exit to see the eclipse, from where you entered to where you exited in the morning, how was that short portion of Death Hollow: very brushy and/or poison ivy heavy? Thanks! I've been living through your videos until my next return to Utah from across the pond.
Thanks! Yes -- we exited temporarily via the western section of the BMT. The short stretch between the two points isn't that bad in terms of brush -- though there are a few spots where one needs to walk in the water to avoid the thickest of it. I'll show a bit more of this stretch in my upcoming extended episode for my Grand Escalante Loop series. Re: Poison Ivy -- there's definitely quite a bit of it throughout the entire canyon, but luckily I've never been affected by it (and my friends were OK this time as well.) Thanks for watching! 🌞✌

I agree on both accounts! Some people really scoff at freeze-dried food, but on the trail I love it. My friends were pleasantly surprised to like it as well. Thanks! This trip was along the eastern portion of the Boulder Mail Trail, then down Death Hollow, and then east along the Escalante River to Highway 12. Thanks for watching! 🌞✌
Freeze dried food really isn't that bad. Besides, backpacking will make you hungry enough that a sh** sandwich would taste good
I agree on both accounts! Some people really scoff at freeze-dried food, but on the trail I love it. My friends were pleasantly surprised to like it as well. It's funny though -- I've tried some at home on random occasions -- and it just wasn't the same, bad even. So yeah... definitely being tired, hungry, and out in nature helps! Thanks for watching and the comment. 🌞✌
What’s the name of the place you got that pizza?
Let me guess Escalate Outfitters.?
@@JC-3410 that's correct. 👍🍕
I would pay good money to go on a two day hike with you.
Darn -- I didn't charge them anything! 😉 Thanks for watching and the comment. ✌
"about fifty more of those before the day is done... "FIFTY"???... he was hoping you said FIFTEEN lol.....
Yep! 😁 It's always so funny how the first water crossing on a hike like this is such an ordeal... and then within 20 minutes one is just crushing through the water without a care in the world! Thanks for watching. 🌞✌
