As someone who almost went blind TWICE, I thank God everyday to see such beauty as this, our planet is truly beautiful. Great job, love the drone footage. I hope to go here someday.
Oh goodness! I can't even imagine! Happy that you enjoyed the video and hope you are able to visit this area of Utah some day. It's a really magical place. 😊
We've used rocks to hold our tent down when stakes were useless. Worked for the fly as well. But the wind storms can be fierce. Learned that in Goblin Valley. But never mind that. A great video and showcase of Valley of the Gods. Damn I wish I had 52 weeks of vacation.
Haha! Funny you mention Goblin Valley and winds there... 😉😉 Ah! 52 weeks of vacation would be awesome, wouldn't it? Imagine all the places one could go.
For free-standing tents, I always put rocks in the tent as well as staking it. It's best to put two rocks inside the tent at opposite ends. With just one rock, the wind can roll the tent. I learned this the hard way when my dome type backpacking tent blew into the Escalante River with just one rock inside. It was a sandy area so the stakes didn't really hold.I was able to recover it before my sleeping bag got soaked, but it did have a wet spot. Even if you have decent ground, stakes can work loose in the wind.
Your videos make me so happy and feel at peace. I’m having a really hard time right now and your video came at the perfect time. Hope all is well for you guys.
No problem! Camping out there definitely puts the area in a different category than Monument Valley for sure. One day we hope to check that off our list! 😅
Other posters have said this before but just to reiterate your videos bring a lot of happiness and peace. Many thanks for the beautiful footage and the time you both spend planning, travelling, commenting and editing to all our benefit.
I grew up in the area and back in the 60’s it was still very remote. My grandfather learned me how to shift gears on that hill. As teenagers we used to race up and down the hill. My grandfather used to drive ore trucks up and down the hill. They have improved the roads a lot over the years. Good memories and I was so fortunate to have experienced the area before it was popular. As a photographer I have photographed the area several times. My dad and grandfather ran a gas station in Mexican Hat in the 60’s. Enjoyed your video and it brought back some good memories. In my teenage years there was freedom to go anywhere you wanted in the Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley but those days are long gone.
It is beautiful. I mountain biked it last almost 20 years ago. This summer I’m headed back now with solar and refrigeration to stay back there for a couple days (by car this time). Hope I can find a good camp site with a decent view. I will be tenting. With a big tent and a smaller one in case wind is blowing. I’ve camp not too far away and suddenly have been hit with high winds that last several hours in the evening. Same when Lake Powell was full. Sudden high winds could hit with no warning blowing anything not tied down away.
Yeah, those winds have hit us out of nowhere as well. They're no joke! Sounds like you are set to have a great time out there this summer, however! Hope you have a fantastic trip! 😊
I come to this area using YT several times a year for its grandeur beauty. Cedar Mesa, Muley Point, Shafer Road and the Potash Evaporation Pools are amazing. In the Valley of the Gods, I always think about the indigenous natives living there and how they were able to survive. When you were flying, the drone between the pinnacles was outstanding, and I had the feeling of why I love these videos of my favorite place to visit on YT. The answer maybe because I feel I am touching Mother Earth uniquely because this area is millions of years old of raw naked beauty. This area was a shallow sea I believe on two different periods in the geological record. Thank you for an outstanding video!
A little late but at 14:53 those buttes you’re facing. I’ve camped right up against them. The large flat one is Castle Butte and camped with friends there. In fact right where you pull in at 22:23 is where we camped last time 😂 My wife and I and now our son are coming up there from our home in Tucson to camp and enjoy monument valley/valley of the gods in April. These are one of my fave places on earth.
That's really cool! I imagine that was an amazing camping experience. Hope you have a wonderful family trip in April! Sounds like a perfect time to go. 😄
Hello and thank you very much the tour was just majestic and wonderful it gave me goosebumps! I have never seen natural beauty in such an awesome environment God is so magnificent!
Thank you! It's pretty amazing out there, right? It's one thing to stand under the buttes and a whole other to come home and watch the drone footage. 😅
All of your drone footage is out of this world on this entire video! Incredible! Thanks for sharing this gorgeous area that you had practically all to yourself!!😍
It's pretty easy when you have such a beautiful landscape. 😅 And I swear that Glenn has some weird luck with low crowds. Or maybe that's just because he goes to remote places. I never have that luck. 😂
Definitely heard and seen lots about the overlook. I imagine in the future we'll probably be back in the area (or at least through the area) so will have to hit it up then for sure. Thanks for the recommendation. 😊
PS As many times as I've driven through, camped and hiked the Garden Of The Gods your dronr shot add in a brand new dimension. Looking forward to the rest of your trip to the Colorado National Park.
Thank you so much! We're taking a little break from the roadtrip with our video next week but will be back to releasing videos from the trip afterwards. 😊👍
Loved the drone footage and the fact you can explore without a guide here unlike monument valley , it’s just as pretty 🤩, I wonder where that cow gets water ? Thank you for this wonderful video.
Thank you for sharing such awe-inspiring, timeless beauty! And for the background music, for it adds something mystical, touching the sensitive heart! May you have a happy and blessed weekend!

The rope cant pull past the large rock because of the medium rock. If you do this on each corner the tent can withstand pretty good wind.
We have been through this beautiful location in a passenger car, but never hiked or witnessed the gorgeous landmarks the Cactus Atlas showcased in this video. Well Done 👍 and Thank You!
Wouldn't want to be out there when it's rainy and muddy. Hopefully you get a second chance some day! No other way to feel so incredibly small than in places like that. 😊
The first place you stopped was below "Lady in a Bath Tub". This past fall I spent a week with the lady out my back window. I pulled a 22 foot trailer in from the same direction you used. When I was there the west side of the Valley was almost empty. Most RVs used the east side. A few years ago while camping at Goosenecks I watched a Coors tractor trailer go up the Moki. Great video of The Valley.
Thank you! I imagine camping there is truly a magical experience - one we still hope to do one day. But not sure I'd want to be pulling something large up or down the Moki Dugway. 😅 No doubt that semis use it too though. Gotta be something to watch them making those corners!
Thanks for a great video - the drone shots are simply majestic. Will definitely take a detour down Valley of the Gods Rd before doing Monument Valley when I visit in September.
The Utah winds can be fierce. A road just behind your first shot leads to Muley Point with a great view down into the Goose Necks with Monument Valley on the horizon, Very cliffy as you would expect. Evening started off clear warm abd calm but I spent of the night in a crazy rocking tent, A 60 pound Golden Retriever in one corner, an 80 pound Golden in another corner and a 50 pound ice chest in the middle. I was frantically trying to balance and counter balance with visions of the tent (and me) rolling off the ridge and into THE ABYSS,. And....never mind,,'..I think I can hear Glory Days by Bruce Springsteen. Time to take a nap
Yup. I've heard a lot about those Utah winds from Glenn when he has stayed there and seen some video footage that he filmed of the tent in high winds and the dirt aftermath the next morning. 😂 But facing that next to the drop off of something like Goosenecks or Muley Point? Yikes! Glad your tent held up there and there was no visiting the abyss!
Wonderful video of the Moki Dugway! The drone video is spectacular!! We drove up the Dugway several years ago in an Impala so as you say, any vehicle will work. What you didn't point out is that the road is a 10% grade. Our drive wasn't bad until a water truck which was watering the road to keep the dust down passed us and then turned around and came back at us. The road is wider than it looks but it's still pretty narrow.
A lot of times we don't have all the facts at the time, so we end up making more informational videos later on. Funny enough, we just did that about this particular area. 😅 Yikes. Passing cars on that road is one thing, but a water truck..? 😲
We really enjoy your videos! Valley of the gods is probably my favorite place on earth. We have been several times but never camping. We are from Alabama and have started out there twice to camp and ran into weather issues both times, one snow, one heavy rains. Hopefully we will make it this fall!
Seems to be a rough place to camp if conditions aren't right! 😅 Weather is always such a factor. I bet it looked amazing with snow though! Hopefully you'll get your chance very soon. 👍
Really awesome! We visit those place Autumn 2016. Drove almost exactly the same route with our brand new(at that time) bright white rental Kia Sedona car. Brings back great memories! Dutch by the way.
Alright, I think you have convinced me. I'm mid-planning on a trip to Moab at the end of April and I was going to spend the first night near Comb Ridge which is not far from Valley of the Gods. But after seeing this, I may have to change those plans...
We just got back from a weekend trip up there, there were a ton of tent campers. As far as turning the Canyon into an overlander, it's very easy and not that pricey. Bed rack and RTT could be as low as $2k and that's all that's really needed.
Oh that's so cool to know there were some tent campers there. We've been thinking on the overlanding thing. Just not in our budget in the immediate future. Hopefully one day though. 👍
So many adventurers find it easy to fly off the seat of their pants. Glen and Amy -you inspire us! We have the heart but always have been so overly cautious. We never even knew of all of this. This Sunday we have a road trip and some adventures to discover. 🦕 Navajo Moenave Dinosaur Tracks US-160, Tuba City, AZ
Thank you so very much! That means a lot! Oh what a fun adventure! We've read a bit about those dinosaur tracks and were thinking of hitting those up sometime. Hope you have a fun time Sunday! 😄👍
Great video! Someone mentioned rocks to hold tent down but it is more than adequate if you tie a small rock to paracord then to the tent and then place a large rock on top of the cord so the small rock can’t move. Sorry you did not camp there!
Thanks for the tip! Will try something like that in the future. It's hard to stop and really think cool when filming and watching daylight fade away. 😅
I've done Moki quite a few times and Valley of the Gods three different times. They just never get old. I would recommend some clearance for any car in Valley of the Gods. I did it in a Nissan Kicks, which has around 6" of ground clearance. 2WD is just fine (assuming good weather...don't go if it's raining hard). I actually love Valley of the Gods much more than Monument Valley, perhaps because it takes a tad more effort and is still a bit of a secret.
There are some parts where the clearance comes in handy. I think most any car can do it, but it's pretty helpful to have those extra inches and not have to stress. 👍
@@CactusAtlas Indeed! I swapped out the Kicks for a Juke (Nismo variety for that sweet extra HP and sport performance) which has made taking back roads even more fun. Even an extra inch feels huge in some situations. Cue up the bad jokes...
Question - my map is confusing me... Can I drive south on Moki all the way through to Valley of the Gods? My maps are showing me that Moki ENDS before the road to VOTG and you have to turn around and drive all the way back up to Trail of the Ancients.. seems weird. Are the roads connected or does Moki end in a turn around?
Great video. I want to go there! You probably don’t want to carry sandbags ‘just in case’ but maybe some empty bags you could put rocks in, to clip to the corners of your tent?
Awesome footage. We slipped off in there from the other end but didn’t go but maybe just 4-5 miles. Wished we’d went all the way through. Hope I get take the whole road as well as the Moki Dugway if I get back out there.
Ok, I’ve been doing some rerouting on a trip we’re taking at end of May. Planning on making drive from Hanksville to Natural Bridges to Monument Valley. I know it’s not a speedy drive down through Moki but looks like it’s shorter which may even out for the distance of Hwy 95 to 191 to 163. Plus my chance to experience this.
Yes...m a truly spectacular and wonderful place ... a word of caution : When approaching a small rise in the dirt road toward a small hill PLEASE SLOW DOWN to almost zero speed . The down side of these small hills of dirt have another 10 to 20 inches of SAND that will bottom out your vehicle. Have fun !
Great video! Me and my two boys will be there in June and your vid really helped me scout some spots. That last spot you were at is it campable? We will be in a roof top tent you should really look at getting one they are so much more comfortable than a ground tent. Also your rig is very capable! Thanks again!
I think Glenn has thought about a rooftop tent as an option in the past. I know he carries a lot (and I mean a LOT) of stuff in the bed of the truck so not sure how practical it might be. (We were looking into it when he was thinking of getting a SUV instead.) As for the last spot... would I be correct in assuming you were talking about that "walk-in" site? There's room for a truck there according to Glenn, but yeah, that little area where the fire ring is is pretty much walk up only. There's some other sites Glenn filmed that are a bit higher up with really beautiful views as well that sort of overlook things. I left out for the sake of not having an hour long video (😅).
Unfortunately we rarely are able to have a quick turnaround between filming and publishing. 😅 Due to that, we list filming dates in the description of our videos. 😊 Glad you enjoyed our video though!
Glenn didn't hit up Muley Point, no, as he filmed the Monument Valley episode earlier in the day and was running out of time with intentions to set up camp in Valley of the Gods. I imagine he will in the future at some point as I know he still really wants to camp out there somewhere in the area. 👍
Neat place to camp. Looks like there’s lots of privacy. I remember camping at lake pleasant and a pair of yahoos started playing annoying music at 5 am pretty loudly. Some people can be soo annoying!
Absolutely amazing views! Great video. I have a solution for your tent camping problem. I use a cordless impact driver and replaced my tent stakes with 4-5in bolts to drive into the really hard dirt areas.
Great video as always! Was there last year and wanted to car camp there in my Subaru, but unfortunately strong storms were rolling in.😢 Some day! Question: Couldn't you just gather rocks and put them inside the tent at the corners? Seems a shame you missed out on camping in such an awesome place.
Those storms! We are familiar with unpredicted weather coming in and running plans too. As for the rocks idea, not a bad one! I imagine Glenn just didn't think about it when there in the moment between filming and everything. 😅
It's been a while since I've been up that way and I have yet to see the Valley of the Gods but... I'll be spending 3 days next week kayak camping in the Black Canyon on the Colorado River! It's a hard life, exploring Southwestern treasures, ain't it? I work part time as a tour guide but even guides have to get out and experience something new every once in a while.😁
OOOH. Your upcoming trip sounds AMAZING. We've been thinking about kayaking in the future as well. And so true! It's fantastic to get out and explore new areas now and again. Hope you have a fantastic time on your adventure! 😄
@@CactusAtlas There's some nice little lakes along the Apache Trail that's worth looking into and a few up on the Mogollon Rim, near Payson. Blue Ridge reservoir is one of them and there's camping nearby.
Just Wow!! We are travelling from Williams, planning to hit Monument Valley, Valley of the Gods and Mexican Hat, with accommodation in Bluff. Is this achievable? The next day down to Paige via Goose Neck. Would love to go up the Dugway, but I think in the wrong direction! Travelling from the UK in October. Thanks for any advise you might offer. Debbie & Trevor
Hmm. Sounds fairly doable to do in one day - it's just going to depend on how much time you want to spend at each location. Mexican Hat is a quick one thankfully. We have other videos on some of those other locations as well. Don't forget about Horseshoe Bend - a bit crowded sometimes but still worth checking out if you have the time and are coming from the UK.
Thank you for responding, will definitely check out your other videos. Horseshoe Bend is on the list when we go to Page. But would love to do the Dugway and have more time in the area, looking to add an extra night at the accommodation.
Impressionante grande vale histórico e pré-histórico sem dúvida talvez aí tenha sido um oceano há milhões e milhões de anos hoje um património natural dos USA 👍
Did this Moki Dugway up and down and Valley of the Gods which was amazing! I also have a video of it . Nice video my friend with your drone it gives another perspective. Have a nice week Serge from Hélène & Serge 👩❤️👨 channel in Boisbriand Québec Canada 🇨🇦 H&S 👩❤️👨🌈🇨🇦
HI, I always wanted to go there in 2022 but we drove a 25 ft. RV and people advised us not to do that. What is your opinion, is it possible to drive Moki Dugway with an RV or are the turns to small for it? Great video, as always. Thanks.
Can't really say as we have no experience with vehicles that large. What I found from a search says "The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recommends that only vehicles less than 28 feet and 10,000 pounds attempt to negotiate the dugway." 25 ft would be cutting it pretty close.
OMG What a diva, the ground isn't level, I can't stake my tent. Talk about 1st world problems 🤣🤣 jk buddy! The drone footage was AMAZING! Definite Monument Valley vibes, what a beautiful piece of Earth.
😂😂 It's not a complete camping trip until you roll out of your cot and then tumble down a small cliff. 🤣 But yeah... seriously gorgeous land out there. They need to hurry up with teleportation so people can just zap out there to chill when needed.
Fine video. This is rough ground for tent camping, but some manage just fine. Not me, I like my bed, toilet and shower in our Airstream, which we’ve taken into VOG several times. Goosenecks likewise, and it deserves at least one overnight to fully appreciate the views at different times of day and night. Regarding drones, sorry, but I support the ban in Nat’l and State Parks. They are just too intrusive. Like tourists, one may be ok, but they tend to multiply and become annoying.
Yeah, the uneven hard ground plus expected winds made it a no-go for us that time. I do agree that staying overnight seems ideal to truly experience the area. 👍
It's supremely frustrating especially trying to capture it on film. You just can't capture the feeling of standing next to some canyon walls and feeling so so small.
You missed it...The first big turn out where the road turns to the right. About 150 yards past this turn out on the way down is this big rock and it looks like the face of a gorilla. Maybe you were in too big a hurry...but you missed it. As for the Valley of the Gods road...you best stay off of it if there is a rain. There are creek washes to cross and the dirt turns into some of the slickest mud I have ever messed with. It will even give a 4wd vehicle a fit.
Well, shoot. I have zero doubts that Glenn will be in that area again at some point in the future (might be a couple years but I've no doubt it will happen). We'll have to notate the rock for next time. 👍 And yeah, staying off most of the dirt roads during/after a rain isn't the best idea. I can easily imagine how messy it gets back there.
@@CactusAtlas Here ya go...You can fast forward to 4:07 and the gorilla rock will be in the center of the video...a real good look at 4:12. Now you will know what to look for. ruclips.net/video/YdmiOSIdpTE/видео.html You also want to stay off the Moki Dugway when it has been raining.
There's no reason to be sorry. RUclips likes to hide things in the description. 😄 Truth be told, after some time, we start to forget the dates certain trips happened, so it's easier to direct people to the description. 😅 Hope it helps. May is probably a lovely time to go.
If you broke down what happens taking account ylu gave galons of water and food and a mobile, could you get out,the reason i ask is im planning a trip in 12 months im a English traveler and have concerns, id be hireing a top of the range vehicle like yours, will it be safe for me, looks like the location for Planet of the Apes and many a western,
My son had a Jeep with a bracket that held a tent on the roof of the Jeep it had stairs and was very roomy Probably safer from the scorpions I would imagine if there’s scorpions throughout the whole state I have no idea

It has to be amazing to live so close to so many amazing landscapes. We feel totally the same as you. 😊
Beautiful, been there last year. Carizzo & Chuska Mountains in the distance to the south. Mexican Hat, UT, just down the road.
So many amazing and awesome things to see in that area. 😊
@@CactusAtlas yep beautiful area, Bears Ears, Five Peaks, Aches National Park, Moab, UT, beautiful rock formations.
AT 20;30 AND 21;30 & 25:51 IN YOUR VID THERE IS A STEAM LOCO SITTING ON TOP OF THE MONO TO THE LEFT. CHECK IT OUT NEXT TIME YOU ARE IN THERE :>)
The first place you stopped was below "Lady in a Bath Tub".
Absolutely beautiful!! Never been out west yet it's a long way from here on old Cape Cod. haha Love your videos and adventures so much!
Ooooh yeeeeah. Cape Cod is just a wee bit away from the Southwest here. 😅 Thank you so much! We're happy to bring the Southwest to you. 👍
Hello love from Australia such beautiful place the country songs inspiration
Thank you! 😄
Thanks for a great video - the drone shots are simply majestic. Will definitely take a detour down Valley of the Gods Rd before doing Monument Valley when I visit in September.
Awesome! Hope your trip goes swimmingly and you have a fantastic time. 😊
Yes, Muley Point is a definite must on this trip.
You gotta appreciate the road building that went on!
No kidding! 👍
Nice drone shots, I would sleep in the bed of my truck and look out at the stars untill I fell asleep.😊
Thanks so much! If we didn't have a truck bed packed full of a week's worth (sometimes more) of goods, it would be a great option. 😅
It is a tremendously beautiful place. We're already itching to get back. 😅
Alright, I think you have convinced me. I'm mid-planning on a trip to Moab at the end of April and I was going to spend the first night near Comb Ridge which is not far from Valley of the Gods. But after seeing this, I may have to change those plans...
I don't think you will regret it. 😄👍
Wow, Driven through there in my Miata, but will take the truck on my next 24hr road trip!
WHOA. A Miata? Ok, evidence I suppose that most any vehicle can get through there. 😅 Definitely a lot more fun in a truck. 👍
@@CactusAtlas Top down it is the best. Need a naked jeep for off roading.

Navajo Moenave Dinosaur Tracks

Thank you so very much! That means a lot! Oh what a fun adventure! We've read a bit about those dinosaur tracks and were thinking of hitting those up sometime. Hope you have a fun time Sunday! 😄👍
Magnificent 👌🏻
Thank you so very much! 😊
@@johnchedsey1306 😂😂🤣🤣
Question - my map is confusing me... Can I drive south on Moki all the way through to Valley of the Gods? My maps are showing me that Moki ENDS before the road to VOTG and you have to turn around and drive all the way back up to Trail of the Ancients.. seems weird. Are the roads connected or does Moki end in a turn around?
Great video. I want to go there! You probably don’t want to carry sandbags ‘just in case’ but maybe some empty bags you could put rocks in, to clip to the corners of your tent?
Not a bad idea at all! Hindsight and all that but we might just use that idea in the future. Thanks so much! 😄👍
Awesome footage. We slipped off in there from the other end but didn’t go but maybe just 4-5 miles. Wished we’d went all the way through. Hope I get take the whole road as well as the Moki Dugway if I get back out there.
We hope so too! Definitely worth the drive and is a great explore. 😊👍
Great video, inspiring
Thank you! 😊
Have fun !
Great advice! 😀👍
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
BEAUTIFUL 😍 THANKS 😊
Thank you! 😊
Hey, you’re wearing my favorite shirt!
It's a fantastic park. 😊
I see you posted this in May '23. Was that the time of year you were making your trip? Stellar video. Keep up the good work!
Unfortunately we rarely are able to have a quick turnaround between filming and publishing. 😅 Due to that, we list filming dates in the description of our videos. 😊 Glad you enjoyed our video though!
@@CactusAtlas Sorry i missed that. Thank you 👊🏻
Oh, no apologies necessary! It's admittedly tucked away in there. Truth is, half the time I don't remember when trips happened anymore. 😂
I love Valley of the Gods and Moki Dugway. Did you miss Muley Point? It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to.
Ugh. That sounds miserable. Certainly lots of space in Valley of the Gods! Might be a touch more majestic too. 😅
Absolutely amazing views! Great video. I have a solution for your tent camping problem. I use a cordless impact driver and replaced my tent stakes with 4-5in bolts to drive into the really hard dirt areas.
You know, I think someone else mentioned an impact driver as well. 😅👍
DROVE THE SWITCHBACKS IN 88. Got the shots to prove it. Uphill. Buick Regal 3,8 no probs even if over 100F, didn t cook 🇫🇮
It's one of those places and experiences that you remember, isn't it? Really a remarkable drive. 😊
Thank you so much !
You're welcome! 😊
awesome vid ta
Thanks! 😊
Tie 2 corners of your tent to your truck. Use decent sized rocks to tie the other corners to. Carry extra tent rope with you for these occasions.
Cara para andar por aí só com uma bússola ou GPS é imenso esse lugar😮😮😮
Tie a small rock around the paracord tied to your corners then place a larger rock on the rope in between the small rock and tent…works perfect
Es un lugar fantástico y vale la pena visitarlo. ¡Gracias por ver! 👍
Did this Moki Dugway up and down and Valley of the Gods which was amazing! I also have a video of it .
Nice video my friend with your drone it gives another perspective.

Thank you very much! 👍
What kind of drone you have?
It's a DJI 2S. You list all our equipment in the description of videos. 👍
Thx
Amazing shots..
It does not look as high from the bottom because of foreshortening. It makes things look only 1/3 of their actual height.
Now you will know what to look for.
ruclips.net/video/YdmiOSIdpTE/видео.html
You also want to stay off the Moki Dugway when it has been raining.
Yeah, I thought the same thing, that first giant rock would definitely cause a few moments of anxiety!
Camping in the desert usually means you can't use tent stakes.
And this means you need a hotel room? Using rocks is easy. Just try it.
what time of the year did you go?
You can find filming dates in the description of our videos. 👍😄
sorry didn''t see that before. I''m planning a motorcycle trip in the 4th week of May.. @@CactusAtlas
Definitely an option that we have thought about! 😄👍
That was all under water 💦 at one time.
