VALLEY OF THE GODS & MOKI DUGWAY: Utah's BEST ROADS with a motorcycle and STUNNING MUST VISITS

- This is a ride to the best roads in Utah, to experience the haunting beauty of the Moki Dugway switchbacks and the majestic Valley of the Gods. This is where red-rock formations tower hundreds of feet in the air. This is where a road has literally been carved from the face of a cliff.
For our visit of Valley of the Gods we stayed in a motel in Mexican Hat - but having traveled Utah before and after our nice evening in Boulder, we were a bit disappointed by the infrastructure. The only open restaurant was at the San Juan Motel right at the Colorado river.
We started our day and wanted to visit the Valley of the Gods - but due to me having been tired the day before I first forced my little three people travel group to ride one of the roads that we had already traveled to enjoy it again but this time full go energy: the Moki Dugway Switchbacks.
The switchbacks of Moki Dugway are located only a few hundred meters from one of the entry points of Valley of the Gods - and definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
Moki Dugway was constructed in 1958 as a route for transporting mined materials and has literally been carved from the face of the cliff. "Moki" is a local term for the ancient Puebloan people who inhabited the Colorado Plateau hundreds of years ago. "Dugway" is a term used to describe a roadway carved from a hillside. The drastic switchbacks offer stunning views of the Valley of the Gods, the San Juan River Canyon, and on the horizon, you can even see Monument Valley.
Afterwards we finally visited the Valley of the Gods. The road through Valley of the Gods runs between Highways 163 and 261. It is a hidden gem and offers isolated buttes, towering pinnacles and wide open spaces as far as the horizon. The rocks are shaded orange and red from the oxidized iron w in, their sandstone dating back over 250 million years. A 27 kilometer dirt and gravel road winds through the valley. A great place to get away from civilization - to enjoy nature as it has been thousands an thousands of years.
Like Moki Dugway the road through the Valley of the Gods is definitly one of the Must-Visits when traveling through Utah with a motorcycle.
Our next stop was the town Bluff. If you are looking for a place to stay in the area make sure you choose Bluff over Mexican Hat. There is a range of options from rustic cabins, to a big RV park - and as well a good choice of restaurants. In our case we were of course looking for a delicious big breakfast - and found it at Twin Rocks Cafe.

10:45 is Church Rock. When I was kid in 1976, 10 years old, dad took the family on a long trip from our home in Florida to Nevada. We found this rock near an intersection of 2 roads and we stopped and walked out to it. The hole in the bottom was a small manmade cave for livestock. there was a small wood corral juts outside it.
always a surprise how much space there is, empty roads, incredible landscapes.....
great job as always Lea, thank you for sharing
Lea, You are braver than I am on a bike. I would have been too scared to ride on those switchbacks.😀
The cinematic views were absolutely fantastic.
Air Wolf, I remember that show in the 80s. I used to watch that all the time.
The breakfast made me incredibly hungry.
Another great video oh, well done.
I am sure you would have had not problems on those! They are really not bad to drive and you don’t really realize how crazy they are carved into the mountains when not looking at them with a drone!
Magnificent views!
I love your accent, you make me smile with the way you pronounce some words.
Good for you! You know several languages and I failed trying to learn Spanish and French so I really appreciate how much you do to make these videos in English.
BTW I finished reading your Got 2 Go book and it is great!
I like how you described your thoughts and feelings about where you were.
Thank you so much, it makes me super happy that you enjoyed my book.
And yes, my travel Partner always complains AFTER I published the videos about my pronounciation of words. „It’s warriors, and pinnacles“ 😂😂😂😂
absolutely fantastic. Thank you and looking forward to more stunning footage soon.
Thank you! Hope you join again next Thursday!
Excellent route choice, right amount of info., Breathtaking drone shots and music.....keep it up!! You are truly showing what the beauty of nature has in store for adventure ridder's!!
Thank you so much! Glad you are joining this ride! 🤗
I was just down in that area. There are so so SO many places that are worth the trip that you can spend an whole month or more just fiddling around and finding all the interesting spots. Valley of the Gods is fantastic. I didnt realize it was BLM land and you can camp on the trail. I definitely need to get back there and ride the switchbacks. In Mexican hat, I stayed at the other end of town at a small hotel across from the gas station. its definitely not a four star Hilton. But the people are very nice and the steak was excellent. Its kind of the back of beyond so its a bit much to expect the same accommodations as one would find in a more traveled spot.
Compliments on the video. Normally drone shots annoy me because they are so long and frequent. But you have done a good job of blending them into the narrative.
EDIT: oh yes the twin rocks cafe in Bluff! that was a fantastic breakfast for me as well. cheers
The cinematography in this series is brilliant! I can't wait for you to show me more is my country!
Thank you! I am always trying to improve the filming. But to be honest: it is easier when traveling with two motorcycles than with one (soon I will continue traveling alone)
A wonderful reminder of why I travel on an adventure motorcycle. Those were amazing drone videos which made my chest swell with pride to be an American. Lea, you do some amazing work. I’m sorry you’re not still in the states. My big trip is planned for summer of 2022. Central Texas to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. 4476 miles (7203 km) one way. Then I go back home. Possibly the long way home. It may take about 6 weeks. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸 thank you Lea.
Keep moving 👏
That will be an amazing ride! All the way to Alaska is as well still on my bucket list. Maybe I will meet you there!
@@Got2Go Now that would be great.
At the beginning of last year I took two months off to tour Thailand from the southern border to the northern, catching up with family and old friends in Phuket and Chang Mai, by the time I arrived back home in the NE, I had covered just over 10,000kms. As soon as this Covid thing is over I want to do it again with my new motorcycle. It’s a wonderful way to see any country.
@@ragbag46 wish I could see more of Thailand at one point too!
I also visited Valley of the Gods for the first time in 2017. The entire Southwest is just a big outdoor playground.
It is. And one view better than the other. But I still like The Valley of the gods because it’s just an easy and super nice ride.
A great introduction, a wonderful to breathtaking motorcycle adventure and an amazing foretaste to the next episode of it..…nothing left to desire and thanks a lot!
Thank you for joining the ride to The Valley of the gods - and hopefully meet you again next Thursday! It’s always a pleasure 🤗
So cool that you still had footage from 2017 😆 As for the drink solution 🤣🤣 but that aside definitely looks like you’ve downsized 👌🏻
These mountains are made of sandstone with steep slopes. Sedimentary rocks such as sea floor mixed with reefs like the Dolomites.
Remembers me of all those great Western movies from when I was young.
Wauw wauw etc.
Ah the Dolomites! Some of my favorites too! I think I have to make an episode about them at one point soon. 🤗
@@Got2Go great. I’ve driven through them several times and walked around Drei Zinnen a few times.
Hi, breath taking valley of the Gods but I could only see one Goddess und mein Herz verloren, keep safe. LoL
Awww what a nice comment. But nobody can compete with the stunning rocks of The Valley of the gods. 🤗
#Everide 's playground :). Such a nice landscape..almost like from another planet. Excellent scenery!
If you get back some time, go few miles more. At the top of the Moki Dugway just before the pavement starts, make a left and ride out to Muley Point. Great views of the San Juan and Monument Valley beyond.
Church Rock. Spent 30 days in Blanding touring the area.
You guys literally know everything!!! Amazing!
Wonderful! Thanks for adding the epic music to the scenery!
Thank you for joining the ride to The Valley of the gods!
Spectacular views and nice commentary. I also notice the subtle review of places not to stay or dine in.
Keep up the great work.
I wish I could do something like this but, as I have 2 blown knees and just had spinal reconstruction surgery and live in OZ it makes it a little difficult.
Enjoying the cruise of the USA.
I also own a FULLY fitted out 2020 Tenere 700. AWESOME Bike for this purpose.
G'Day from the Land of OZ
Beautiful and iconic rock formations in the valley of the gods, you can see why it’s been popular with the movie makers. Great drone shots show off the area so well, what a lovely place to ride.
It definitely is! An easy and very joyful ride!
I rode the white rim rd in early June absolutely stunning but very "Hot"
Not sure when you visted but sure would've been nice to say hello as I am a huge admirer of yours
It was very hot too when we did it - and actually quite a long and challenging day with a lot of surprises (even though we had a car with us as well)
Incredible rides, Lea. I so want to explore these areas. You find the best places.
I think it's Church Rock
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_Rock_(Utah)
It is! 100 points to you! I really tried to find it somewhere on the map but couldn’t trace where exactly I recorded the video.
J'ai dîné avec un ex-marin américain en Amérique Centrale et il était beaucoup plus brave que moi. Il a choisi un poisson vraiment osseux.
Wonderful adventure and i like your voice...stay healthy ok 🙏
Thank you! Will try!
Superb.....A real motorcycle adventurer ....GREAT viewing ...stay safe !!!!! ( love your voice / accent )
Thank you! I promise that I am not able to get rid of the accent anytime soon 😂
Those road's r really awesome to ride & beautiful natural marvels carved by the time I really ENVY U . like to hear the review of ur T7 .ride safe live ur life live ur dreams GODSPEED ❤️👍👍👍
Thank you so much! My review of the Tenere is already available in one of the recent videos of you are interested!
Loved the amazing cinematography in this episode, simply WOWZERS. The drone footage flying over the dugway and through the Valley was so clear and crisp, it went by too fast, I rewound to just take in the breathtaking views. This brought back such vivid memories of us doing those exact spots on our trip May 2018. It was a tough enough job to convince my wife to do the dugway in a car, let alone try to coerce her into doing it on the back of a bike. Thanks again for an incredible memory.
Big like for travelling back to show us the magnificent views
Thank you!
Bravo! I enjoyed this most of all in this area. This is my most favorite You Tube place. I know I'll never see this in person, so you help me see this. I've watched this area dozens of times and you showed the "Mexican Hat" from the road that I was thrilled about-no one else that I watched, showed this from the road. Further on, your blend of music, road shots, scenery shots and drone coverage gave me goosebumps! Moki Dugway and Valley of the Gods are so special. You see, for some reason I can't explain, I seem to have a calling to this place, and a calling and feeling for the indigenous tribes, Navajo, Jicarilla Apache, Zuni Pueblo and the Southern Ute. In the Valley of the Gods, I can just imagine what it was like for the Navajo to be in there and what they felt and how they respected this, their sacred place. Thank you and have a most pleasant day!
Hi Lea. Awesome film making as I have now come to expect 😃. How is the Klim Krios holding out?
I bet it’s not to cold now. Keep it up.
No it’s not too cold. But i realized on this trip how much more noisy it is compared to the other helmets I rode before. Love the comfort but I might switch back to my Touratech aventuro to be honest… 😅
Thank you for your wonderful videos!! Safe travels!!
Thank you!
Truelly, Valley of Gods is majestic, wonderful n unimaginable formations of rocks.
Lovely drones shots, pics n ur words. Liked very much.
Best wishes.
Subhash Jadhav, Pune, India
Thank you and hello to India!
Hey you two (three) overlanders. Nice, no amazing trails you´ve choosen. That´s the kind of routing i prefer (but please with tarmac :-) ) You gave this beautiful area something special, with your episode. In the comparison to your 2017th footage i want to say: "good things NEVER chance" Have a nice WE. P.S. Yes Lea, i did it last WE ( 1000 Miles 16 States within 24h) Don´t ask for my butt ;-)
Omg congratulations! How was the ride? Was it as well nice or only hard? You are crazy! 🙏🏻
Taking notes for future trips....Thanks
Lea
I'm glad you are enjoying the scenery there! Fantastic footage Lady! Hopefully your trek will take you through Sedona AZ. The red rocks there are Legendary!! There is also Meteor Crater not far away. Awesome video Lady!
Peace
Ride SAFE and BE safe Lady!
🙌👏👌✌🖖🤙👍👋🙂🌹
Unfortunately I didn’t make it to Arizona after Utah this time. There will some things happen in the next episode that will cause a big change in my travel plans. 😅
Wow…. Wonderful video with kindly explain every moment. I could memorizes was driving same way. I wish to be driving that way again. Just waiting the finish virus issue. Thanks for showing fantastic video.
I hope we can soon all travel again 🙏🏻
Nice video... its a shame you missed the Goosneck Overlook at Gooseneck State Park on the way to the Dugway from Mexican Hat. The overlook onto the Sau Juan there is unbelievable. Look forward to your next video... keep safe out there... :)
I think I was too tired that day to look for any overlooks. But it’s really a shame! I will put a note in my map so I can drive by if there is a next time 🤗
Thanks a lot for the movie! Magnificent scenery. Excellent shooting. I wanted to like it five times. It’s a pity that it’s impossible. Special thanks for the Russian subtitles. Good luck!
Thank you so much! You will always find the Russian subtitles in my newer videos. Hope to see you again next week!
Valley of the Gods is one of my favorite rides in the country ---- I think I rode in 2017 as well! Haha --- every time I went by that big rock formation on the right --- I wondered what it was called!
Some people watching the video pointed out that it’s called church rock! The guys here know everything! 😍
I loved knowing your channel, the two days I'm hooked and your adventures your videos are wonderful, the desire to ride a motorcycle and accelerate around the world, I loved it! u are happy, beautiful, brave and adventurous, thanks for your videos!! I like a lot!
Welcome to the channel! Glad you are here!!
A question. These videos are current or have been filmed for a long time? . The landscapes are impressive ... without tourists
I am guessing she was there in spring because this area can get crowded in summer.
Thank you Toto. ❤️
But the first time I was there on my worldtrip was in July - and it was actually still fine and not busy at all. Always felt that as soon as you leave monument valley (where I didn’t go back this time because I found it too crowded the first time I visited) you kind of escape the bigger crowds.
@@totoarriba sorry.. I Don't speak English and I didn't realize the description. Thanks you
Another enjoyable 'Ride along' in Utah. The Tenere looks to be an ideal bike for your journey. I have a Yamaha Tracer now just right for the wife and I to trip around the county. WE always look forward to your Thursday release of your latest video.
Thank you! The Tenere is not exactly the best bike if you ride two up, so I think your choice is perfect if you travel two up!
Found it! I was there 25 years ago on a large trip across the west, and couldnt remember where this dugway was when visiting in 2019. Now I have to go back again :-)
Oh that is so funny! I am happy I could refresh your memory und take you to your „lost“ places 😂
Beautiful for sure. But please monitor your straps as they can damage your spokes, cause you to have an accident, and cause all types of problems.
I have always loved Utah and its countryside. A great place to stop if you are close is Pangitch, Utah. Good food and great people.
Don’t worry - if the straps get in the wheels they don’t cause harm to the spokes, they just rip. Been there, done that. (And these ones just come lose for the filming when I didn’t pack the bike properly)
Valley of God ,,Intrusting... very surprised unexpected views for me !! 🇵🇰
Yes The Valley of the gods is just stunning! Thank you for joining again!
That rock formation at 10:00 or so is Church Rock.
Lea, amazing your videos, music and your comments. Thank you, from Argentina.
Hello to Argentina!!!
Woooooooow 👀 Wonderful 👌🙏👍 Greetings from Germany 👍
Thank you again for riding through The Valley of the gods with me!
Great environment, but I agree Mexican Hat is a bit of a dump. I stayed there one night and that was more than enough. Lucky for me there was a wedding going on, so at least a bit of fun at night.
When we were there literally nothing was going on. But the name somehow sounded like a lot of fun. And someone told us on the way that there is a fantastic Mexican restaurant - but we couldn’t find it 😂
we met you at a gas station at 7 eleven in mexico hat.
I gave a sticker to the couple who were with you.
congratulations for the videos.
Ah that’s you guys! Hello!!! I remember that!
Hallo Lea, super, dass war richtig gut!
Danke.
Gruß, Ralph
Schön, dass du auch wieder dabei warst! Nächste Woche gibt es noch mehr von Utah!
Nice to revisit that scenery of my trip to ride in 4corners area in 2018. To return later. Nice music.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Love it, Lea. Please tell me. Who's the guitarist in the intro music, and does (s)he have a RUclips channel?
I don’t really know, it’s music from epidemic sound - but I think you can Shazam it!
Welcome to Utah. I've been watching your videos because i also ride a T7.
It’s the best bike for this kind of adventure!!! 😍
First class video and music selection. There is so much to see in the USA. You could easy be here for a couple of years.
I agree. Have been there a few times now and the more often I visit the more places I have on my bucket list that I have not yet seen. 🤔😂
close to Chako Canyon, now thats a trip
Beautiful ♥️ ride nice 👍 scenery 🌞🦋 watching fr jamaica 😎🌅🏖️
Hello to Jamaica! A place I still need to visit too!!!
So beatiful but I must say that it looks a bit scary to ride on those steep ridges, aren´t you ever afraid?
These ones were really not scary in real life - it was a very wide rode and not so super steep at all. So no danger to fall off. You will see in the next episode that there was quite some challenges for me - and after the USA I will post a destination I recently visited where I got quite some respect of the heights…
It is definitely a great ride. Fun video thanks.
Stunning valley of the gods! 😍
The elements of the video is amazing 👏 the background music, scenery, rocks formation, roads & your vice .. something really creative, Thank you 🥰 Lea 💗
Thank you so much!
Beautifull...i like you...💖💖💖
Overtaking landscapes and fantastic music!! congratulation!! what a fantastic adventure!!
Yes this day was a very nice ride. Valley of the gods just doesn’t disappoint!
Wow oh wow i love it.. Absolutely awesome.. Beautiful views and stunning landscape and i find your voice so calming and relaxing.. Already looking forward to the next trip...
Hello again! Glad you liked this one as well! The next episode will be a bit different - unfortunately less drone due to being in a national park and more challenges!
@@Got2Go Thats ok, im looking forward to it, Just go with the flow.. Davey
Ok perfecto 👍👌 Lea
This is one of my favorite places and I also want to go back for another visit.
It’s still stunning even if you visit a second time! Valley of the gods 😍
Good food and accommodations does make your body recover faster, especially during long and hot ones. When I rode through Mexican Hat, I didn't see much inviting establishments.
Very beautiful place but it gets better just down the road. Ride it.
Down the road? What do you mean with that?
Another Ultimate ride and beautifull scenes. Thank you so much!😁😁😁
Beautiful views with wonderful detailed explanation. Good Job. ❤
Nice Video 👌👍👍👍
Thank you!
Did those Roads 2 Years ago by Car (..), one of the most beautiful and peacefull places i´ve ever been. Fantastic
Just beautiful...queue the Ennio Morricone music.
Thank you
I am glad to know I am not the only one capable of falling asleep on a motorcycle. It can get anyone in trouble and I am very lucky (once got awaken by the rumble strips on the side of the road!). Thank you for the nice video again. Look forward to more to come.
Yes for me it mostly happens when it’s very hot outside. That makes me sooo tired 😅
@@Got2Go the heat certainly puts anyone to sleep! Hydration is an important part…I tend to over drink water when it is that hot because otherwise I will become even more sleepy! Stay safe.
This is such an amazing part of Utah and it is exhilarating to drive the Moki Dugway. You made such a wonderful video of this area!!!
Edit; that rock is named Church Rock. Cheers!
Thank you! I knew you guys would for sure know this rock! Tried to find it on my maps but I didn’t know where exactly I recorded the videos so I couldn’t find it…
@@Got2Go It is about half way between Monticello and Moab.
I drove by it on my adventure last year. I had secretly hoped it was named Nipple Rock.
Mexican Hat is a Native American reservation border town. Some of these towns aren’t always welcoming to outsiders for obvious reasons. This was especially true during the pandemic due to record numbers of tourists coming through and bringing covid with them. Just respect the people and their history, and you’ll appreciate the views of their indigenous land even more.
A few days ago I unexpectedly came upon the Moki Dugway. From the top down. Imagine riding a fully loaded heavy Harley on a nice paved road and then SURPRISE! You’re on a gravel road with a 10% downward grade and sharp hairpin turns to boot…needless to say it scare the s$&@ out of me at first!
The new top of the week; I'm watching now.
I hope you enjoyed the ride in The Valley of the gods!
Oscar staty for you Spelberg work. Seriously!
Thank you!
I am from Brazil. I see some of your videos. Simply wonderful the journeys, with images and narrative Simply fantastic. Congratulations
Awesome Episode you beautiful 👍
Thank you!
That Tenere looks beautiful with the most beautiful human being. Mesmerizing. Thumbs up to you.💖💖🤩🤩💪💪
Hey Lea. Greetings from Oz. Majestic scenery and magic Moki Dugway 'road'. Thank you for taking us along on your USA adventure.
I want to do both of these roads, but I will be on a Honda GoldWing with a passenger. I think I know what I would be facing on the Dugway gravel, but I could use some more info on the road through the Valley of the Gods: The BLM website mentions a number of washes to cross? Is that feasible on a GoldWing?
I discovered your channel Moki Dugway is legendary among my Harley riding friends. Mexican Hat is very off??? We ate at a place called the Swinging Steak, great food compared to the restaurant you ate at, good not agree more it seemed very likable but the food and drink sucked. Some of it has to do with the Navajo reservation and the overall depressed state of the Indian reservation. Did you see the Forest Gumb road?
Another great episode. See you next thursday :-D
Thanks for joining the ride again. See you next week! 🤗
Lea, your drone footage of the switchback ride is super cool! 👍
Amazing views!
I've done the Moki Dugway in my Corvette
That’s a interesting choice of car for this road! Hope you enjoyed it too!!
Awesome areas! Must have been great by motorbike too. One correction is San Jaun Motel is beside the San Juan River and not the Colorado.
Really nice video, Lea. Beautiful and not that far from me, yet I have never been there. Thanks, Lea!
Great content! I live in Utah and just returned from my own epic road trip. Keep riding!!👍🏻🌼
Amazing video Lea! I really love following your travels (though it makes me so jealous :-) but in a good way...)

@ 4:29 if you would have stopped, there is a small trail that will take you to a vista with a view of Valley of the Gods on the other side of the mesa.
That formation is called Church Rock. A homesteader blasted a small cave in it for storage
Great! Stunning! Majestic! Thank you so much for sharing this ride with us.
One of my favorite drives out west, just great scenery and you feel like you have the whole desert to yourself!
Great vid , stunning scenery , thanks :)
Thank you for joining the ride through The Valley of the gods again!
