Vince Gilligan said that Season 1 Ep 5 (the rich people birthday party) was really important early on, because it showed that Walt was too prideful to take Gretchen and Elliot's money, as a character flaw. He said there had to be some underlying flaw that explained how you could see a dark character from the beginning, that Walt wasn't who he told people he was, nor even what he even thought of himself as. But when you look back, as Mair said, you can really see it. And that's amazing, that they were able to plan it out like that, to make it all make sense in both directions. On first viewing, you're on his side, until you realize the cancer was just a catalyst for a transformation that was always ready to take place. As far as caring for Jesse, I think Walt goes back and forth. When it comes to his passion and his love for chemistry, Jesse is the son that Walt will never have. Junior both has cerebral palsy and a disinterest in science, so he'll never clink test tubes in cheers with Walt. But when it comes to cartels and people gunning for him, Walt will drop Jesse for Junior because Junior is blood and Jesse is not. But Walt cares a lot for Jesse, when the conditions are right. It is a very conditional love, when Walt is greedy enough to entertain fantasies about having a son who can share a lab with him.

Walt was always meant to become a villain by the end and he was already the bad guy at this point. There’s no single moment where he becomes Heisenberg,it happens little by little
As a person who was raised by a medically diagnosed narcissist( NPD), he does not care about his family in the way "normal" people do. He cares about his family as long as they fulfill their role in his life. His family are just other pawns in his board game. The minute they no longer feed his ego, they won't matter anymore. Walter does what he does for himself and lies to himself that it's for his family. All narcissists do that at some point. If he *truly* and unselfishly cared about his family, he wouldn't continue to put them in danger, OVER AND OVER again purely for his own ego and pride. Sure, he experiences love, and he *can* care for those he is close to, but he will never be able to love his family *more* than he loves himself. His pride will always be the most important thing. Think about all the different times Walter let his ego get in the way of even his love for his family. Like how he was too prideful to let Walt Jr. believe he was earning donations for his Dad. That literally ate Walt up inside. He cared so much about his own pride that he wasn't even capable of appreciating or sincerely acknowledging the insane effort his teenage son did for him. Narcissists always view life through the lens of "me myself and i" even with their families. Some narcissists will even die because they can't let their ego go. How many times did he get back into the drug game ONLY because of his own pride? That's not love. And he definitely doesn't care about Jesse💀 he cares about what Jesse can do for HIM. Granted, in Walters mind, he probably believes he does care for Jesse. But the things he does to Jesse, completely unapologetically, prove that he truly does not care about Jesse as a person. That isn't love, and anyone who thinks otherwise has not experienced knowing people in real life who are exactly like Walter. Love is proved by actions, not empty unfulfilled words. This is something many narcissists struggle with. They're good at talking a big game and love bombing, lying, and manipulation, but their actions and the things they *do* or allow to be done to you show what is truly at their core; That their own ego and pride is really all that truly matters to them. They will be "good people" as long as they feel like their ego is being fed and fulfilled. And when they feel like their pride is being put in danger or is being questioned, they will do very hurtful things to prove they are worthy of fear and respect. And no one, not even family is safe.
I’m sorry you were raised by a narcissist I was too😭 but he can’t be one because he would’ve been this way the whole time. This purely came after him having to sell meth you Kinda have to be a “narcissist” to survive in the drug game
Mair, you need to go back and watch this video when youre like 80 and see how you feel a out yourself once youre Hector's age, LO. Set the reminder on your Google calendar, lol. I LOVE that you screamed, "Walter IS the one who knocks!" I have a hoodie with that on it. 😂 If Jesse would've shot Walt he wouldve been even more messed up than after killing Gale. Jesse isn't as cold-hearted as Walt and Gus and would carry that with him because he and Walt had a history, whereas he only met Gale once briefly before he shot him. Sophie is right. Season 1 Walt and season 4 Heisenberg are NOT the same person!
I was looking forward to your reaction to this one. Remember the bear in s2 being burned on one side. That is a premonition of Gus 2 faced. Now, there is an episode in s5 which to me is the best episode which actually got awards. So I'm really looking forward to that one. I was waiting to see you guys figure out that Walter is the bad guy of the show lol.
It's like in the beginning of the show when Jesse says to Walter "Some straight like you giant stick up his ass all of a sudden at age, what, 60 he's just gonna break bad?" This episode truly confirm why yes, yes he did ;) lol More than Jesse even realized.
Walter IS the bad guy, that's the whole point of the show lol. Remember, it's called breaking bad. The whole show is about how a good guy can become bad. So in season five Walt is the main bad guy of that season.
Walter knew that the effect of Lily of the Valley isn't lethal so he knew Brock wouldn't die. He cares about Jessie. He if didn't, he wouldn't have mistaken Walt Jr. for Jessie when he was half-conscious. He basically thinks of Jessie as almost his son.
Nah, I get where you are at with Walt, he put Jesse through so much shit. But he also saved his life a few different times, when he didn’t need actually need Jesse at all. He’s a contradiction like most of us are, and his morality and sense of conscience has gotten worse over time.
Walter never cared for Jesse? You do realise that the whole sequence of events that leads up to this was because he killed the two drug dealers to SAVE Jesse. If he didn’t care for him, he didn’t have to do that. He could have let Jesse die and maintain his good relationship with Gus by cooking for him with Gale’s help.
HA! I was out of town, I just caught up on your last five B.B. reactions, bingewatched 'em which was a lot of fun! Leading up to this one!!! Amazingly, the last season - specifically the last half of the last season - only amps up the drama EVEN MORE. You'll see!!! But the end of Gus is definitely one of THE big moments of the show, right up there with Jane's death. Remember when we thought Hank taking out Tuco was the biggest thing to happen? 🤣You guys are great, so much fun to watch this show with.
One reason the show is so good is that it's all about character arcs. All of the main characters are completely different people by the end of the series. Walter is pretty much gone by now. It's all about Heisenberg.
Gus was going to kill Hank, that’s why Walter acted. Gus wasn’t doing things “the right way”. The minute Walter tried to prevent hank from getting killed he had no choice but to kill Gus. Also Sophie right you can’t compare Walter at beginning of the series to now.he wasn’t the e same that’s the whole point of seeing his transformation. Mair didn’t like Walter from the beginning cause he was reading the comments from people who had already watched the show.
In my opinion Jean Carlos's Gus is one of the most likeable movie villains of all time (second only to Anthony Hopkin's Hannibal) You know they are evil but you just can't help but admire them and root for them. p.s. Gus would have killed Walt's family if needed but only as a last resort. I think he wanted to catch Walter and Jesse sit them down. Give Walter a retirement fund and force him to pass the torch to Jesse retire and shut up. It would have worked but Walter's greed and ego foiled that. Gus is almost invincible he had one weakness: Personal revenge. He is calm, collected and efficient. I do not believe Gus was responsible for the kid getting shot. Everything is because of Walter's ego.
'Bad guys don't think of themselves as bad guys." I've been friends with criminals(grew up in the ghetto) and then I worked with Death Row inmates. I can tell you they all have justifications for their actions. Generally they actually see themselves as the victim. It's always everyone else's fault to a criminal. This show does a phenomenal job of taking you on that journey. Walter continues to justify his actions as they become increasingly morally depraved, and we as the audience do too. Eventually though for most people Walter crosses a line where we can't justify his actions, and he becomes 'the bad guy'.
23:20. You are right that Gus did not kill Walter in order to keep Jesse working for him. However, at that point Jesse had turned against Walter and wished him dead. Jesse had not told this to Gus yet though. Walter had to turn Jesse against Gus before Jesse told Gus he would no longer protect Walter.
If you think season 4 was great, wait until you get into season 5 , your head may explode. LOL Can't wait for you all's reaction. And then Better Call Saul your in for a treat. Just make sure and watch the movie "EL CAMINO" first.
And the entire reason EVERYTHING happened is because Walter blackmailed Jesse in the beginning. Jesse is STILL the winner of these arguments lmao. If you play the blame game than it still always leads back to Walter. So don't do that. It just makes an unneeded bias towards characters even more unneeded.
Hector got an stroke, a big one. I got a one for myself, 6 years ago when i where 25 y/o. I started like Hector was, couldnt speak and couldnt move. I can live in now, got a bit of language and move on roght side, just wanted to say that. Nice reactions though 👌🏻 Rip Hector
Don't forget Gus said he would kill Walt and his whole family if he interfered with him killing Hank ... Walt warned Hank and tried to escape with his $$$ except he had none lol ... HE HAD TO KILL GUS! ... but he is a bad dude!
Walt poisoned Brock with unlethal dose to SAVE Hank. Gus threatened to kill Hank & if Walt interfered Gus threatened to kill his family. You guys were blinded by emotions, but this show is much deeper than that. Don't let your emotions confuse your judgement in season 5. I agree with Sophie more than Mair. It's ironic that she's the more sensible one & Mair is more the emotional one. Keep up the good work, but remember Walt is not as evil as you think & has a reason for his actions.
Since this is probably my fave episode of 1 of my fave series ever, super-enjoyable watching yr reaction to this (for the 2nd time, at least a year later)...thx guys! (P.S. have y'all considered reacting to "Peaky Blinders"? Maybe not yr cup of tea, but maybe worth a quick check out)...❤
Jane did not threaten to kill him so her death was much harder for me to stomach especially how he just let her choke to death on her vomit which was so humiliating . Gus did threaten to kill his family so he did this nasty thing out of a desperation to survive so its not so bad for me as he is facing life or death under this situation but not with what Jane has threatened him with .Because threatening to kill and threatening to expose someone is a huge difference for me. I can see a justification for this act but not the act of letting jane die. Walt does care about Jesse but deep down he is predominantly looking out for himself. So given an option to secure his best interest, he will take it if it means hurting Jesse even if he cares for him. You can care for other people and hurt them at the same time if you care about yourself the most.
See, here's the thing. I can understand why you guys would think that Walter doesn't care about Jesse but he does. If he didn't care about Jesse at all he wouldn't have saved his life by running over those two gang bangers. Think about it, he knew that by doing that he'd be in deep trouble with Gus but he did it anyway. So he does care about Jesse but it's kind of weird to even say that because of all the things he put Jesse through. I think he cares about himself more than Jesse obviously but a part of him cares about Jesse.
He gaslights/manipulates/threatens/insults Jesse *consistently* from episode 1 season 1 to the end of the show... I just don't buy that he cares about him, he sees Jesse as useful to get what he wants. Jesse spent much of this season in extreme depression after being coerced into murder by Walter and Walter did not give one shit. I will never forget the go-karting...
@@hannahizawesomeful if anything I think he cares when he feels he is responsible - getting Jesse out of the drug house after Jane died (he let her die), running over the two gang members (he told on him, they would’ve been dead already and not Andrea’s brother if Walt helped him from the beginning).
@@hannahizawesomeful I don't disagree with any of that, Walt is terrible to Jesse but deep down I still think he cares about him. You don't save someone's life and put your own life at risk with your boss if you don't care. Walt was always meant to become a villain by the end and he was already the bad guy at this point. There’s no single moment where he becomes Heisenberg,it happens little by little
Walter White is good guy guys! Heisenburg has officially been unlocked! Love your reaction and S5 is a BANGER! Can not wait for the reaction!
15:14 Tom and Jerry sounding ass scream 😭
Many thought this was the perfect conclusion and couldn't imagine a season 5. Where was it going to go? We were all thinking that. Fasten those belts.
Walter and Gus were both bad. Walter just outsmarted him.
The best part of Breaking Bad reactions is watching people realize that Walter White is the villain.
Bro screams like he’s in Tom & Jerry
Part of me believes Walt let Jane die because she was a threat to Walt, but also because she was not good for jesse
no way he would let her die if she had not blackmailed him.
If you can’t be old, what’s the alternative?😮😮
16:35 lmao
It's like in the beginning of the show when Jesse says to Walter "Some straight like you giant stick up his ass all of a sudden at age, what, 60 he's just gonna break bad?" This episode truly confirm why yes, yes he did ;) lol More than Jesse even realized.
Season 5 is even better than this one. Don't forget to watch Better Call Saul after Breaking Bad
He made a great Thomas the cat impression. 15:13
Can't wait for you to begin season 5🤩
LMAO HE FLEW ACROSS THAT SCREEN YELLING
The neighbor that Walt potentially sacrificed was played by Vince’s GF’s mother
Best reaction to BB: Face Off .... ever! You'd have thought David Blaine pulled a rabbit out from behind their ears. 😉
15:10 And thus, the first walker was born. Breaking Bad is Walking Dead prequel confirmed
I think you nailed it on walt, he only cares about himself(and his family).
One reason the show is so good is that it's all about character arcs. All of the main characters are completely different people by the end of the series. Walter is pretty much gone by now. It's all about Heisenberg.
That face off was from the teddy berry in season 2
even how the gun falls on the ground is epic
Gus was going to kill Hank, that’s why Walter acted. Gus wasn’t doing things “the right way”. The minute Walter tried to prevent hank from getting killed he had no choice but to kill Gus. Also Sophie right you can’t compare Walter at beginning of the series to now.he wasn’t the e same that’s the whole point of seeing his transformation. Mair didn’t like Walter from the beginning cause he was reading the comments from people who had already watched the show.
15:13 the most accurate tom and jerry scream ever😂😂😂😂
Enjoying these so much - walter messed up everything gus took years to build. it's even more apparent after watching better call saul
Yes, this is the best show ever, and you haven't seen season 5 yet, which is the best season ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welll the name of the show IS Breaking BAD!!!!
Hang in there!
More to come!!
At this point... You know what to think about Walt 🤣
Yes…he has fully transformed
Sophie was in shock 😂😂😭
“Walter never cared about Jesse” yet Jesse was the entire reason why Walter was in this position to begin with…
This!!!! I don't understand how ppl forget that fact! Jessie would've been dead a long time ago if it wasn't for Walter.
As I said before, 4-6 to 4-13 is my favourite stretch of the show.
Hector got an stroke, a big one. I got a one for myself, 6 years ago when i where 25 y/o. I started like Hector was, couldnt speak and couldnt move. I can live in now, got a bit of language and move on roght side, just wanted to say that. Nice reactions though 👌🏻
Rip Hector
Next season is arguably the greatest season of a television show. Buckle up.
Are you guys going to watch El Camino?
I don't know how Walter got out of the old folks home without being seen by any of Gus's people remember he left that one guy still down in the car
A bomb that can shred skin, but not touch fabric😂😂😂
One of the greatest shows ever, Better Call Saul is equally amazing maybe even better.
This guy's screaming vocals tho 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don't forget Gus said he would kill Walt and his whole family if he interfered with him killing Hank ... Walt warned Hank and tried to escape with his $$$ except he had none lol ... HE HAD TO KILL GUS! ... but he is a bad dude!
Naw bro think he Mario saying YAYAUUAYSHSUFUJDUSHEJIDSU 😂😂😂😂
15:06 ever seen the meme “monkey screams spins and disappears” 😭
Love this guys reactions
You know Brock is poisoned by The flower “Lilly of the Valley”. The plant in Walter’s Pool is called “Lilly of the valley”.
15:14 me on Christmas morning
15:12 That cartoonish scream))
Of all the Gus Fring death scene reactions this was by far the funniest homeboy was funny.
Gus didn't kill Brock either. He told Walt he should have let him deal with his 2 employees that did...
Love it. Yes, Walter White (or Heisenberg, if you will) is the true villain of this story. Truly evil. Then again, you gotta watch til the end.
Maybe not yr cup of tea, but maybe worth a quick check out)...❤
We did peaky blinders☕️😉
amazing post episode review, the dude is very good !
But don't forget - Walt knew how much to give the kid WITHOUT killing him. I'm team Walt.
Your reactions were priceless
He knew Gus would want to kill him if he killed Gus' employees but he did it anyway because he didn't want Jesse to die. He put himself at risk for Jesse, that's all I'm saying. And he paid for Jesse's rehab because he wanted him to get clean. Walt and Jesse just have a very complicated relationship.
