Rebecca has actually addressed the "no gloves" matter on her website, saying, "It’s very difficult to bring to bear the tactile sensitivity and balance that your hands possess behind a layer of cloth. For this reason, handling a book with gloves greatly increases the likelihood of tearing a page or dropping the book." She also discusses the opinion of other experts who note, "Compared with the destructive effects of air pollution, heat, light, poor storage conditions, repeated folding, and internal acidity, the chemical deterioration caused by paper’s contact with bare skin is imperceptible." It's worth reading her thoughts on the White Glove Myth in their entirety, but she also notes that there are times when gloves are necessary.
So there's your answer, it's something of a myth.

They probably have a contract where Rebecca can't make deals for the items that she is hired to appraise. Basically all of them would fit on her store too.
Don't forget to take 20% off for selling fees.
And probably another 20% to 30% off for not waiting until someone willing to pay top dollar is available.
Of course it's the seller's problem... he's the one trying to sell it. The price comes DOWN because the pawn shop assumes the long-term risk and you get the cash immediately. The longer something will sit because of low demand, the less it's worth.
That's how economics works dude.

Going there with some 200 years documents signed by a US president and general they say that 12.000 $ is a lot of money.

@@mulvihillmatt It's the basis for free trade in general, yes. Forget capitalism, that's how any consensual transaction works. You only make a trade if you consider the other person's possession to be worth more than yours. And vice versa.
That's how wealth is built. Both people walk away richer. The guy gets $5k that he considers more valuable than his documents, and Rick gets the documents which he considers more valuable than his $5k.
