I knit a huge decorative pillow, folded up all my winter pajamas, put them neatly and tightly in a cloth bag and use it to fill my pillow. When winter comes, I undo the woven-in end, take them out, and do the same with my summer pajamas! Also, old comforters! Wash and dry them, you can use the fill OR fold it up and use it to fill large projects like floor pillows.
I'm glad I'm not the only one using cotton balls :D Although my mother recently informed me that she actually had a bag of stuffing laying around left over from the time she sewed fabric dolls. Which was years ago. I need to check it out, see if it still works and doesn't fall apart.
I've used cotton balls too. But I found that I'd need to use more quantity of cotton as compared to the polyester fibre stuffing, to achieve the same amount of plush. Using the synthetic fibre also gives the plushie more "plush". So I find it more convenient.
I use yarn for stuffing I have tons of yarn that I brush out to make wefts. The extra yarn that falls off and gets collected by the brush I use is turned into stuffing
Jayda InStitches I have tons of yarn so the extra yarn that I never used is brushed back into fibers which makes good stuffing. I have a lot of extra yarn so I made it into stuffing.
I actually thought of all of these in the last few days as I was searching the house to fill my dolls!... Thank you for the validation!😁 I have one more for you guys: The cotton fill inside your vitamin and supplement bottles! 😊
When I first started crochet toys I went out and bought a bag of fiber fill which was was quite expensive for just stuffing and then I had some pillows i was going to get rid of but decide to cut it open and realized I could use that instead of buying fiber fill and now my family give me their old pillows they don't want and I just use that never bought another bag of fiber fill again
+Lakeisha Scott-Martinez Quite honestly one of the best ways to reduce, reuse and recycle! :) I've been busy chopping up my husband's old jogging pants * giggle *
I just love your Quick Tips and Hints....I have been looking at previous u-tube tutorials and have found so many useful tips and ideas for things to make I cannot thank you enough Jayda!! Your channel is so useful and down to earth and easy to follow!! Thanks so much for being here!! I learned to crochet from my Grandma and she never taught me by reading a pattern we always counted stitches and now that she is gone I am on my own... and now I have found you and your channel... so easy to follow can't thank you enough. Thanks also for all the great crochet ideas and patterns!! Best Regards!
Lots of good ideas here for when I run out of stuffing. Instead of buying a new bag I'm going to try some of these ideas. Been meaning to try to make tshirt yarn out of my old tshirts but haven't gotten around to it yet
You can use felting wool!!! I started needle felting and i just never got around to actually doing it. So now i have alot of it and i can definitely use it
Happy earth day! I did my first amigurumi! Quarantine time calls for no going out and getting stuffing! THAT IS OKAY. I wouldn’t use it all anyway! Being the frugal and low waste lady I am! I thought hmmm maybe I can use scrap fabrics or even shredded paper! Du duh du dUH THANK YOU ((: happy to find out it’s a thing 🥳💚
Thank you for all the ideas and suggestions. Very helpful. I myself would not use my old pillows' stuffing to stuff toys. Thinking about it my pillows have been through hell. We sweat on them. Drool. Spit up from my baby. Pee from other kiddos. Pets lay on them. You may have spilt drinks on them. Dust mites amd other things could be in them. Its suggested to replace your pillows after awhile. Even if I washed them first I just wouldn't feel right stuffing a toy someone is paying for with old pillow stuffing. Now t shirts and socks yes. Was actually thinking about that. I've actually got a pile of socks missing their partners going for sock puppets and am totally using it for stuffing now.
Hi Monica, you definitely want to be choosy with the stuffing you use for your projects, if you're pillows are really 'used up' then they might not make the best stuffing!
I'm crocheting my dog some toys today. Moe is 74lbs so he has a big mouth haha, but I've been concerned that he may pull out stuffing over time from chewing. Love the ideas, I'm going to cut some socks I bought but don't like in half and use those(:
Thanks for the great tips! I noticed a cute amigurumi chicken in the background of this video! Will you please do a crochet along tutorial on how to make this?! It's soooo adorable!
I used to make yarn tails a lot. And part of the process is brushing at yarn with a dog brush to make it fluffy. Usually the dog brush collects parts of the yarn that gives a similar feel to the stuffing.. Do you think it would be possible to use that?
Hi Alex, as long as you didn't feel that the little fibers were really "felted" together and weren't likely to easily slip away and through the little spaces in your crochet...wool fiber, for example, would be excellent in this case!
+Steven George Great use of alternative stuffing :) I stuffed several of my dirt/grass blocks with chopped up socks and loved the extra weight they got :)
Hi! It depends on the project, and you want to make sure the beans aren't so small that they fit through the spaces between your stitches, but otherwise, yes!
I cut up old clothes that's saves me throwing them away and it recycles them which save the enveryment,I can't spell that word so I hope you know what I mean

An excellent, space-saving idea!
That's so cool omg
I’ve only recently started crocheting and dabbling in amigirumi. But I’ve found using an old pillow and dried beans does wonders.
I use cotton balls instead of expensive fibre fill for my amigurumi.
Excellent idea - and I think I've seen bags and bags of them available at the dollar store!
I'm glad I'm not the only one using cotton balls :D

I loved the pillow idea! I cut up one pillow and I have 5 gallon bags full of stuffing!! Thank you soooo much!

Nothing is wasted! That is a great tip, thank you for sharing :)

I've been using the chopped up t-shirts for pillow stuffing lately and loving it. It makes them heavier and a little firmer :)

Omg I would have never thought of these. I have thrown out since 2008 and now kicking myself. Thanks Jayda
Thank you for watching Jen!
You look ADORABLE!!!! Adorable IN and OUT!!!🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much!💗
You could brush thick wool with a dog/cat brush or a comb. Or you could use a normal brush but it might take a while.
Great video, exactly what I was looking for! Thank You for all the fun and helpful tutorials!
Thank you for watching, Ruth!

+Amanda Flach That's a very good idea for dog toys!
Thank you so much for this video. It was really helpful 😃
Wow Halle saw an amigurami 🐔 in your background. Very observant... I looked for it and couldn't find it.
I like this lady good energy keep it up
If you dont mind it being less soft you can fill it with uncooked rice or beans!
Yes! That also helps make it a little heavier, so stuffed toys will sit up!
@@JaydaInStitches yep

Jayda: "its my husbands dont tell him, he might get a little bit irritated"
Also Jayda: *Dosen't wear a wedding ring*
no offence if this is somehow offencive
Hi. Thanks for your tips. Can we use the small thermocol balls (bean bag filler) as a stuffing?
Hi! It depends on the project, and you want to make sure the beans aren't so small that they fit through the spaces between your stitches, but otherwise, yes!
I LOVE your hair here !!
Thank you Yolanda :) I enjoy wearing it short!
Such a great video, informative and loving your bubbly personality Jayda!
Would wadding in a big roll work? =)
***** As long as that wadding can be pulled apart into tiny bits, and it's washable, I would think so!
Thumbs up to you. BTW some great tips from your viewers also... Thanks
The shirt idea is really cool. I have done the socks for stuff before many times with my sewing . Thankyou for the tips!
Maka Chee washed T-shirts are soooo soft, they really do make great stuffing!
I bet they are! I like using the old t-shirts I have and do sewing with them into new stuff. I'm an up-cycle person XD
