A Ziplock freezer bag works great for traveling. Just leave part of the bag open for the yarn. Then you can shove the project inside when you have to stop.
Ali Wehr Hey that's a great idea too!! Do you find the zipper teeth catch the yarn or does it feed very smoothly? I have a few of those zipper bags, but they're enormous...but at least now I know why I've been saving them!!
Jayda InStitches For smaller projects I use the pillow case...cases. The finer the yarn the better re the zipper, but for most yarn, I make a hole. Love your channel! But I have a request: don't go crocheting any male body parts! hehehe
Hi Jayda and Mr. InStitches, I just watched this quick tip and had to laugh. Jayda was talking about preventing the ball from rolling away and I said, "get a bowl." The next thing I knew, Jayda was holding up a bowl. I also thought the container with a whole in it was a wonderful idea. I need to try that one. Thanks for the tips.
I use a ziplock bag partially closed to keep the ball contained with the working yarn coming out the top. Also works to keep multiple yarns/colors separate and feeding smoothly all from one project bag. I didn't read all comments so this could be a duplicate tip (I can't be the only one who thought of this).
That's so clever! I never thought of using a bowl/ container to control the yarn. By the way, on the comment of your last video, yes I meant crocheting in the round. That's what I'm sort of struggling with to get my amigurumi pieces started!
I am just learning to crochet. I've been doing dish cloths. I love your channel! You have been most helpful. I hope to be half as good as you are at it.☺️
Hi Stacie, thank you for watching! You know what they say, "Practice makes Perfect!" I don't think anyone's perfect, but we can sure improve! My first few attempts at crochet were, um, great attempts LOL Just remember to have fun, that's the whole point!! :)
If you're going to be riding in a car for a while, you can use a cup with a lid to control your ball of yarn. Just be sure your ball isn't too big for the cup and the cup isn't too small for your car's cupholder. One other thing: A plastic cup would probably work better. When I did this, I used a styrofoam cup. It worked alright, but I believe a plastic cup would help the yarn slide along better.
Tereasa Neal Hi Tereasa! I dropped in on a girlfriend one day years ago and she was crocheting from out of a bowl at her feet and I hit the ceiling. I thought it was the smartest thing I'd ever seen! LOL :)
Jada, a dollar store plastic storage dose the same thing. Recently i had to fly somewhere, all day, so i put a hole in one and slipped it in my travel bag .
Jayda, do u prefer balls? I rewind everything into a square like skien that is more compact because I wind tight. Have u tried that method? No container or yarn bowl needed. And I don't need tools. I use my fingers to start out the inward ball like.skien
Hi Jeanie, if the skein I purchase can unravel from the inside out, I won't bother to rewind it. I only rewind yarn that tends to want to knot or felt if it bounces around too much :)
Jayda InStitches I meant winding a skien into another skien just tighten it. So it still comes out like when originally packaged. It saves space and can be easily carried around anywhere it's bore boxy round in shape . You still pull from the middle. I'm not sure I'm explaining correctly I would post a pic of an example but I don't think this will let me
Do you have any tips on working with dark yarn? I’m using yarn bee fireside yarn in Niagara, and I’m having a devil of a time seeing my stitch. Any pointers?
Hi Michelle! Work in full light...with extra light if you can get it! Full sunlight (not after dark) and also you might benefit from a neck light. I have one (picked it up off of Amazon) and it's got a little led light in the end of each arm. 3 light settings, bright, really bright and super bright...it definitely helps me see those little stitches!
Hi! Yarn that isn't tightly wound will want to unravel and split at the ends, this can be troublesome for some projects, but not all. Some yarn is purposely wound loosely for a particular look, and some cheaper yarns with fewer ply or made from less quality materials can be loosely wound too. All yarns can have a use! If your yarn wants to untwist and split, and it's a problem for the project you're working on, you might want to put it aside for a different project later (this yarn typically makes great pom poms, for example) and try some yarn that doesn't want to untwist as readily. If you're just looking for standard, medium weight (size 4) acrylic yarn, Bernat Super Value and Red Heart Super Saver are both good brands that are fairly inexpensive and won't want to untwist on you.
You are too cute! Who ever thought one could possibly make crocheting even more enjoyable than it is already! Love you girl, keep on keepin' on!!
Hi Kelly! Thank you so much for watching :)

I use a colander and feed the yarn through the holes. Especially useful when crocheting more than one color.
Hi Catherine, great tip! Thank you for sharing :)
Great tips, Jayda! I save the plastic zipppered sleeves that linens come in. Keeps the yarn clean and easy access through a hole or unzipped a little.

Hi Debbie! I love my bowls, I have a whole bunch of them :) They certainly help keep things under control!

good idea's I use a small box or a used soda bottle cleaned out there are several sizes to pick from that can be reused for something else but thanks
Hi Jayda l cool ideas? I saw a crocheter using a teapot to put the yarn into! The yarn was coming through the spout of the pot!! 👍
Great idea!
TY, why didn't I think of that! Great advice.
Tereasa Neal Hi Tereasa! I dropped in on a girlfriend one day years ago and she was crocheting from out of a bowl at her feet and I hit the ceiling. I thought it was the smartest thing I'd ever seen! LOL :)

carla jeronimo Hi Carla! You know what, I think next Quick Tip we do I'll demonstrate how I roll balls :)
Jayda InStitches That would be great and so helpful! I was wondering the same thing and look forward to that quick tip too! Thanks Jayda! :)

Must collect more containers 😈
Jessy Norton Hubby has to man up and get eating! LOL :)
It's pronounced SKAYN, not SKEEN.
