2:40 Actually I think that an 18 year old US Citizen could legally drink on the moon, as there is no federal drinking age. Every state has set it to 21 (and they could change it, but would lose federal highway funds) so I think that since you're not in the jurisdiction of any state you would be able to drink,
Does that mean that hypothetical 12 years old US astronaut could legally drink on the moon?
Actually, it's completely legal for a 16-year-old to drink alcohol. It is illegal to sell alcohol to a minor (and I'm pretty sure illegal for a minor to purchase alcohol but I'm not entirely sure.) So the US astronaut would not be prosecuted for drinking. However, I'm pretty sure we have federal laws about operating government property/interacting w/ foreign officials while intoxicated.
I wondered about this too. Would be a bit of a stretch to try to have your home state prosecute you under state law for something outside of the state
I think you are right.
meismehaha well like he said. The person IS UNDER CONTROL of the government from which that person is from
_"But then America invented space"_ is a fantastic line.
...
+Wladislav I was joking
Oh thank god.
I was looking to see if anyone said anything
Especially when the Russians invented it first... But that doesn't stop us from pretending America invented everything first.
I like how he is serious and very smart then he adds in little funny things
Or at the beginning with the SPACE LAWS Star Wars thing.
0:40 And America said: "Let there be space!", and there was space! And America saw that space was good, but that it also made things a little more complicated... and America divided the space from the higher altitudes of the atmosphere.
"But then America invented space"
if that doesn't represent america idk what does
And America said: "Let there be space!", and there was space! And America saw that space was good, but that it also made things a little more complicated...
Hehe exactly! Firmament that we can't get thru to even make it to the moon
The mix of ignorance, patriotism and bad education that is common in america.

Are you stupid or something? God made the universe I really want to throw a bible at you right now
Years ago I wrote an algorithm to calculate how much cocaine it would take to reach, say the moon, assuming 1gm = 1 ft.
I think the result of one run was 5.5 tons of cocaine to make a line to the moon.
So do you work at NASA yet?
No that got him fired
So if a metric ton of coke is 5,500,000 grams and cocaine is $60/gram (according to New Health Advisor), then that's $330,000,000 just in fuel costs.
No wonder security is so tight at the launch site...
actually its about 162 tons. assuming it takes only 1 gram to make a 1 ft line of coke. either way...thats a lot of coke...
Buy it in Colombia. I'm pretty sure it isn't $60/gram there.
Back in my old days we weren't allowed to have babies in space - grampa astronaut joe biden.

Not alien, extraterrestrial. Political correctness :)
An alien African Arabic Afghanistan American

Ahahahaha cracked me up
Didn't the USSR make the first satellite
+Qazpaz TheLumberJack u are correct
Daniyal Hussain Damn commies
+Don't Even Bother lol
First satellite, first animal, first manned flight, first eva, , first probes to the moon, mars and venus, first space station...basically the USSR made all the major milestones. But yeah 'Murica "won" the space race.
"But then America invented space." Best part of history in my opinion.
Are you the one that comments on eckharts ladder.
Grand Admiral Thrawn murica
Pretty sure it was the Nazis who invented it. Then the Commies used it. Later on America expanded on it.
CountCampula then Africa invented human race
Neanderthals were European, I suppose it's possible they're far descendants of some African humanoids. I don't know or care enough to really tell.
Wendover in 2016: who do I look like a lawyer?
Wendover in 2019: (something about being able to annex any country for recreational purposes if you're on a british-flagged ship) trust me, I'm a lawyer

On the moon with the space Nazis
MrMonkeyCommander you could claim your basement as your country but you need citizens and other country's to approve and then when it's an official country you'll be president and you could do anything legally you make the rules as long as your in it
Wow, didn't even cross my mind there would be space laws. Great vid, man.

The 'brittle bones baby' -stuff is being covered so well in James S.A. Corey's The Expanse - series, well worth a read!! [The first half of the first book has also been produced as a TV series which is awesome]

It was a fucking joke.
So are you for taking me seriously lol.
At least there are smart people
Robin Muerkoester it's a joke dumbass
a bad joke perhaps, it's hard to tell if Americans are smart enough to know that not everything is done by usa
I love to watch these old videos, a mix between HAI and Wendover
It was really inspiring ! I am a law student from Versailles and I want to spécialisé in space law. This is a really exciting time to start working in it ! 👌🏾
Just imagine flying to north Korea on a redstar plane ( north Korean) and you are born there, so u are north Korean LMAO

yep. I mean, you have to connect to different airlines, but only two fly in and out of NK.

can you do a video about what type of government would look like if we started colonization or if earth united as one

Hearing this video made me realized how much you have improved your narration
Wow, the production quality of your videos has increased a lot in a year and a half!
Now I want to practice Space Law I wonder which law school I have to go to? lol
Pirate school. In space, maritime law applies.
A number of universities do space law. My son is working towards a PhD in Space Law at an English University
so a Dutch astronaut is allowed to smoke weed on the ISS but a French astronaut isn't?
The ISS has rules, smoking anything would pollute the limited air supply on the ISS so nobody can smoke anything there
Daniel McDonough what about pot brownies?
That would probably be ok.
I think they high enough already...

Don't you mean that the USSR invented space???
Yuri was in space a little over 90 minutes
Wasn't Germany?

Werner von Braun is the real OG
Technically Nazi Germany did in 1942, they sent a V2 up around 80 miles, far past the Karmen line.

Love this throwback to when you mixed HAI humor with Wendover lol

+Roman Soiko Well there has been a married couple on the ISS at the sametime. Who knows if they did it or not. My guess is hell yes. How many get that chance.
You'd think a Jedi master would've figured this out already
Great videos. Subbed!
Cool stuff subscribed!
I laughed at the "let's say he does a line."
If people from two different countries have a baby, would the same rule apply (the baby gets the nationality of the spacecraft)?
+swimswum I'm not 100% sure, but based upon what I've learned from my research, I think that the parents would have the choice of nationalities, or the baby could be a dual national. If one of the two countries didn't allow for babies to be naturalized citizens automatically, then the baby would take the other parent's citizenship, and if neither country allowed for naturalized citizens born outside of the country, then the baby would take the citizenship of the spacecraft they were born in.
The probably the country in which the parents were born, would make an exception and give the nationality to the baby, even if they normally wouldn't do this.
Sorry, but I can't explain it very well, poor english.
+Ionut Daud Yes, in this case a president or somebody with the right to pardon convicts could probably give citizenship. Also might be possible for a parliament.
Yes, basically, the space ship is like the child's uncle or something.
Jovan Janevski hahahahaha!
This Channel is awesome!!
Your channel is awesome
how do you do a line in 0g??
you could probably use some drug in liquid form. The surface tension will be enough to stick it to whatever surface you do the line on. Then it is standard procedure.
Straw in a bag
Do 1g in 0g
You Trumped at 2:23
🤣
Man I miss when Wendover did this type of videos
These old videos are so much fun
lets make a big drug factory to space and record it
Your country's laws will work on y'all since nobody...and more stressed *no citizen* in your country I'd above the laws. I suppose your country is democratic and has laws banning drugs
Am I the only one who thinks the US should stop recognizing the treaty stating no one can own space so we can start space imperialism?
Until doing so is at least technologically feasible, perhaps don't piss of the world for no reason.
As soon as we find a way to profitably harvest space resources, you know that treaty will be flushed down the toilet faster than a pound of coke during a drug raid.
how can you claim space its like claiming a big hunk of the sea
Rick Smith You can claim planets or meteors or moons
Well you could start a country regardless of any treaty as long as you can defend yourself. Plus I dont think the US could send space soldiers after you...
Plus Space X is making there own city on mars soon anyways.
it is important to watch out for situation like this, of where there are little to no laws.
which means you could do what ever the hell you want before its too late
hahaha...the plane with the happy face...and the small crime in space ...just killed me :D
"no country's laws apply *universally* on the Moon"
Ha ha funny.
No countries law applies in universe.

lol America invented space... afaik, the USSR/Yuri Gagarin made it there first.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joke
For everyone who knows that the USSR mostly lead the race to space, the joke make no sense. And everyone who don't know it, might believe that the US had a superior spacetec. I thing we just have enough american patriotic morons.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony
Just no.
The joke is that Americans are so patriotic and moronic, it wouldn't be surprising if they thought they invented space.
thank you very much!👍
But the astronaut on the moon would be in a spacesuit made in a country, which you could argue is technically a one-person spacecraft.
Look, I love the video, I appreciate the work that went in to it, but you spelled "Jurisdiction" wrong. When I'm watching an educational video and I see misspelled words, I get this funny feeling. Do some proofreading before you post is all I'm saying.
If you are born on Mars you are a MARTIAN
I like this Wendover better
Great video dude.. I have a question: What if two satellites from two different countries claim the exact location/point in space for whatever reason? I know this is extremely unlikely, but for the sake of the argument, what if for example the USA and Russia would want to place a space station or satellite on the *exact* same spot above earth? Would it be a first-come-first-served kind of thing or would it have to be treated differently? Thanks for your time, random stranger.
Okay, but.. What happens if a baby is born in antartica, and the parents are of a different nationality?
The baby becomes an attack helicopter. We all know these have no nationality.
mazzalnx tell that to the army lol
Orrr you could have artificial gravity on the space vessel, and give birth to healthy babies.
