First item shown in the fast sum-up and it's already a no go. You do NOT use regular filaments for food stuff. And even if you get food safe ones (PETG), your printer needs a cleaner-filament in between, getting rid off all the residue of any other left over filament plastics ... please add a note to your video, if possible (there is a comment-bubble feature at your youtube studio).
Your printer seems to have a hesting problem or the x gantre is lose a bit to mutch ot to tight, there are riffles on some of the print, its mainli on the PLA prints i gues, i had the same problem for about 2 weeks before i figured it out.
Please dude upgrade your printer profiles... there is so much stringing 😱 increase retract before moving, maybe decrese printing speed. The results will be way more batter
FDM prints, no matter the material, are not food safe, as it is impossible to clean them correctly, and bacteria start to grow at the layer lines. The ice glasses may be OK, but the can tops are a very bad idea.
Not true at all. PETG is rated food safe and dishwasher safe. I have many things I have been using for years made of it and wash it all the time and have not had any issues. I think you are confused with how FDM printers work. There is no gap in the layer lines and if you have a good enough printer, the layer lines are pretty much nonexistent. Make them 100 percent infill and print at .1 later and you will be fine.
@@Pewpewnation123 the problem isnt the gaps in the layer lines. If there were gaps then it wouldn't even be water tight. The problem is all the tiny crevices created by the layer lines, which very much encourages bacteria growth. Also I don't know who lied to you, but even the best FDM printer on the market will put out prints with visible layer lines, even with smaller layer heights You can get around it though. Coat the print in a food safe epoxy resin and problem solved
i wonder how much material costs are for items like those desktop bins? i have no idea about material costs, so would like to know about the cost vs. convenience ... for instance, it's nice to be able to make items 'to fit', but it wouldn't be so keen if a little bin cost $3.00...
Great question! The black desktop tray holder was 77g, and the black PLA material was $0.022/g so the material cost for that part was $1.69. Each drawer used 14g of material, and the yellow PLA material was $.031/g so the material cost for the 5 drawers was $2.18. So in total you're looking at about $3.88 for the whole thing. So yeah you may be able to find a cheaper option somewhere that's also more convenient, but the customization is the best part! And you can have fun making it :)
@@macro3dprints can i ask you a question, i'm new in 3d print, less than a month, so i use in PLA 210ºC in nozzle and 60ºC in plate, after the first layer, i can turn off the heat of the plate, and turn to 0º or i should put 60º all the time, sorry for my poor english but i from brazil. and thanks for helping us and show your creations.
@@saimon3808 Hey Saimon! That’s a great question. You can leave the plate at 60C all the time! Normally when the printing plate (also called bed) is hot, the filament sticks to it better. If you let it cool down, there is a risk that your print detaches from the build plate, which would ruin the print! Good luck! Let me know how it goes!
That is a good question! Perhaps the layers are not sticking to each other very well. Try increasing the temperature slightly to melt the plastic more and let each layer bond to the next a little better. Don’t go hotter than the filament specifies though!
Not too bad! If you print it in a hard material like PLA, ABS or PETG, running some hot water over the back does the trick. Otherwise, TPU is flexible and would be the best option!

@@robpaintsminiatures just need to wait some time. 10 minutes after the print is done and they snap off satisfyingly. After an hour, they should just remove with no resistance. right after the print is finished and the printer bed is hot, the prints are really hard to get off. Hi there! That is a great application for 3D printing! 160 parts is still small enough scale for 3D printing to make sense, and allows you to iterate on a bunch of designs without sinking coat into a mile for plastic.
