Spider-Man (PS1) | Actually A Horror Game

- You all remember Spider-Man for PS1, right? You may fondly remember what a joy it was to play this game growing up. The funny one-liners, Venom, and the surprisingly fun combat made this game a hit. Not to mention, the various collectibles to collect throughout the game.
It's all dandy until it's not. Once you get to the end of the game and all hell breaks loose. Hi, MikeyChipmunks here. Let me tell you why Spider-Man for PS1 is a horror game, first and foremost.

The whole game was a love letter to spider man, from the collectables, the introduction, story, the covers for every level and unlockable costumes. monster ock was nightmare fuel and the fact he instantkills spiderman on passing him makes the whole chase sequence that much more of an adrenaline rush.
Monster Ock returned in the ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. I don’t think he’s actually named monster ock, but it’s doc ock with carnage so same thing

Carnage and Monster Ock were creepy, alright. But where did Venom get the ability to become invisible/teleport?
That's possibly the one thing that scared me the most, especially in that sewer level where he can appear anytime for a sneak attack. Fighting him gave me anxiety while playing the game on Hard difficulty
I forgot to mention the teleporting in the sewers! There really was a lot of creepy stuff going on in this one.
Venom teleport abillity was a common power he had in his early apperances
If you read his first issues under Mcfarlane you will see how he appears and disappears in order to atack Spiderman
But for some reason they stopped givimg him that power/abillity
@@Syfcobra8549 I thought it was all about coming out of the shadows and being sneaky and that disappearing was an ability they invented for this game just to deal with technical limitations. I couldn't recall previous instances when Venom did that.
Oh well, thanks for the info. Venom is crazy powerful anyway, he can literally grow wings and fly despite the fact he could already swing and climb walls like Spiderman which is already close enough to flying

That's the funniest thing I've ever read. MSM2 sucks.
That was before I had played Spider-Man 2 to completion, I certainly don't think the game sucks but it definitely missed the mark in terms of the story.
You can consider the last boss in spider man edge of time as the carnage dr octopus
Yea for sure Monster Ock creeped me the hell out as a kid but the lizards were funny
I always thought they were screaming “WHEEEEE” at the top of their lungs as I killed them, like they were having a great time
You should look at the beta design for monster ock. Its way more horrifying.
As someone who trying collecting all the n64 games I still want the n64 version of spider-man. This video still convince me to get it even if not the best port.
Venom is easily the best part of this game. He's such a goofball that I can't help but love him.

I had this game back in 2000/2001 on my very first PS1 and your video on it has brought much nostalgia to me after all these years since I had it new. And call me crazy but when I was a kid and encountered Monster Ock for the first time, he never scared me. Seriously, not once. I always saw him like, "Oh, so I can only run away from Monster Ock without him getting in front of me to beat the game? Okay." 😂
I've always loved his design being a mix of Carnage with Ock's tentacles and actually think his voice adds to how badass of a villain in the best way possible, he is in my book and still doesn't freak me out in the slightest to this day which makes me feel like one of the very few who has never found him terrifying even as a kid lol
Be careful not to hype Tommy Tallerico too much, the guy likes to get credit for other people's work. Nice video for nice memories tho
Yeah, that's why I said love him or hate him, his work with music can't be understated but the Intellivision situation is scummy.
Yooo! Core memory unlocked… I had a demo of this on the PC as a kid! One of my earliest gaming memories. Every time you booted up the demo, it’d make you start the game all over again. I played that shit for hours. Good times.
