    Your Tele model is a high mid sparkled relic one. For example Player series telecasters (2018 and present models) have more attuned high frequencies and less sparkle and shrill. So it depends on your guitar's EQ. Still applies in overall after all. But knowing your EQ right is key. An EQ pedal will show you what you like or not in your tone curve people.

    Great video man! I'm digging the tones you are going for here, and I applaud your willingness to take a firm stand on some of your views and tone/pedal tips, etc. Some RUclipsrs seem afraid to say anything definitive regarding tone so I appreciate that. If I could add a few thoughts - as you said, a Tele has treble and presence in abundance and I think some people stay away from it because they mistakenly think it's only about that bright and twangy sound. But I do think a Tele actually has a strong midrange presence as well, certainly not lacking. Historically it's been hard at times to tell the difference between a Tele and a Les Paul with early PAF's, example Led Zeppelin I. I liked how you talked about the pairing with darker mid-range focused amps like Marshall (which I also personally enjoy believe is underrated) and you contrasted it to some classic Fender amps. You probably are well aware, but just to add on to this topic for anyone else, mid-scooped Blackface amps (and I believe just about any amp with a bright cap) that sound quite bright at '3' on the volume knob tend to start to emphasize the midrange more (and roll off treble) as you turn them up to the point where they naturally compress and approach edge of breakup. A Deluxe Reverb set to somewhere around 5-7 on volume is a completely different animal and in that situation a Tele might not sound harsh at all if you can be that loud with your band.

    Joey.. love your playing style but, and I know it's a matter of dialing in the tone to personal taste, but I have a 68' super reverb drip edge silverface. It's the AB763 circuit that's identical to the blackface. I think that it sounds great with my American Pro II Telecaster. I use a tube screamer also. The rest of the video is spot on, though. • @ravenslaves

    Nonsense.
    The best way is to wire the bridge pickup directly to the output jack, turn off the bass and mids at the amp, and dime out the treble. Then max out the volume.

      @joeyjooones  5 месяцев назад +5

      yes! Most important thing before you mess around with pedals and make everything more complex. Find a good base tone with an amp first, build from there with the right pedals. :)

    • @martin-1965
      @martin-1965 15 часов назад

      @@joeyjooones 30 years ago I got a 1976 Marshall Bluesbreaker (the mad heavy 2x12 beast with the comedy single handle on top lol) and this amp just worked with every guitar from my Tele through P90 and humbucker guitars. As a base amp it was perfect - for me at least. Get a great, simple ideally imho (not too many knobs lol) amp, ideally tube for me but you do you :) and then whatever guitar you plug into it will not only sound great BUT you can use a few pedals to dial in a sound that you will love for years to come. I can tell that Joey has found his sound - and a glorious one it is too - which everyone should do over time themselves. I don't have a scientific method to offer sadly, but you will just know it when you hear it and feel it 😎 The Telecaster is all the guitar you need, but my collection of 20+ guitars proves its not the only one you will ever want. Leo got it pretty bang on correct when he made the Tele and i just love its sheer simple rock and roll simplicity of design while being able to find every tone and sound i could want.

    I agree that these things affect your tone. Your tone is a sum of all of its parts…BUT not all of those parts I think are created equal. I think speaker choice should be the first thing considered when thinking of your tone. It’s the last filter in your signal chain, and would have the most prominent effect. Likewise if you’re di into front of house or recording, your choice of ir should be considered first before amps, pedals, or pickups . I would love to hear your thoughts on speaker choice and what speakers or irs you prefer with your tone.

  • @Joey_McElroy
    @Joey_McElroy Месяц назад +1

    So something I love, I am new to owning a AV2 blackguard 51 Tele reissue, not the custom shop, but the USA model. It’s absolutely incredible…now I’m a Les Paul guy through and through, my main amps I play through is first my Marshall Bluesbreaker and also my 4x10 Bassman. With the Bluesbreaker, if you channel jump them and dime out both channels, control your gain with your volume knob. It it this fat and glorious thick heavy tone that sounds totally saturated. It is glorious. But if you don’t dime them out, it will sound a bit thin and weaker…where as with my Bassman, anywhere through the sweep of the volumes it sounds great. I know the Bluesbreaker is basses off the Bassman, but they definitely have two different personalities when it comes to running a Tele through them. I’m so happy I live way out in the woods with no neighbors in sight. I put on my earmuffs and crank it up! ❤❤❤

    • @jlunch
      @jlunch 27 дней назад

      That sounds like a dream scenario out in the woods! I'd love to crank my amp. I have yet to do so as I live in an apartment. I'm not yet a gigging guitarist but I've been a viola player for a long time now. I play in symphonies and stuff like that. Guitar is something I started at 40 so I'm waaaaaay behind compared to the viola stuff. I've got a Burriss Dirty Red 18w Marshall voiced head. It's actually amazing. Bob Burriss stopped building his amps about 13 years ago but this thing is a beauty. I play it through a Creamback. It's sort of a JT45?JCM800 circuit but it's got a Tone but it's got a Top Cut control that eliminates the treble spike. Most of the stuff I play is more riff based stuff so I've never tried for that blazing lead tone yet. I should just play some fucking leads LOL.
      Les Pauls and Bluesbreakers cranked has to sound glorious. It would make me immediately start riffing on some SuperUnknown, most likely. Limo Wreck, Fresh Tendrils, it;s just the sound of that combo. Anyway, I am rambling. Sheers dude.

    What Tele model and pickups are you using? My Baja 60s sounds a little dull in comparison. Love 51 Nocaster and broadcaster pups… I’ve got a Bassbreaker 30R, I’m finding it difficult to get the sort of sound you get. My OD pedals are JRAD Archer, TS808 Tubescreamer, Fulltone Mosfet 2, Beetronics Royal Jelly Fuzz, and a Fender The Bends Compressor set up like a smooth light overdrive. Usually have the Bends and Archer permanently on with one or two of the others stacked into them (or the fuzz). Nice tones, just not quite ‘the’ tone. Would a Rat be a good choice?
