@16:30 I know what those tall poles are! They are markers for the 3D profile of a new construction. They are erected in order to show the local citizens how a proposed new build will affect their view of the natural landscape. Last summer I ran into the same poles in Mürren and asked the same question of the locals.
This is the answer yes. It gives the to-be-neighbours a chance to complain about the project, as swiss people do.
They are also raised for renovations, not just new buildings.
Honestly it's a pretty smart idea.
I saw these too in Germany(?) and asked my Austrian bf what they were. I was quite impressed!
That's super awesome!
I’m Swiss, can confirm this is the right answer.
Thats correct. Let me add: The small thingys at the top, which are angled are used to indicate where and how the roof is going.
It looks to it's counter part on a other pole. With this a imiganary line can be drawn and this showes how the roof will be.
Sometimes you get zigged, sometimes you get zagged, but very rarely does anybody get 'zugged'
they sure did zig-zag and Zug a lot this round~
Zig zag zug is my favourite improv game
omg that made me laugh out loud hahhaha
It's kinda funny how the one of the big clues, the rhyme thing, relies on both parties mispronouncing the names in the same way.
he did give both "again" and "awaken" to cover both cases whether it was ahgen or aygen which covers both of the pronunciations they would reasonably interpret as americans
Yeah that was always the risk with that question lol. Maybe they agreed up front to just pronounce everything with an American accent
haha right??
I have no idea how that clue made it through play testing - why on earth would you have a clue that requires English speakers to rhyme German place names with English words??
@@FCBfullMatchmaybe because the english speakers……speak english
This episode was a masterpiece, getting zugged again, sam being tree obsessed and suddenly realising he'd been there before, ben being kinda annoyed he's winning so much cos he has to lurk under a slide like a weirdo, it's just *chefs kiss*

Zug is the new Lille
Lol
@@justanothergermantankie9142Lolle*
It is a big train hub much like lille so makes sense.
It literally means train
For those saying it's name is related to trains, you should do some more research. While Zug does mean train in German, it's got a bunch of other meanings, one of which is "pull", which is where Zug gets it's name since it relates to the idea of pulling up fishing nets from the lakes (literally got this from 5 minutes googling and reading the wiki btw, I'm not an expert by any means)
Ben is perfecting his impossible combo of 50/50 no brain/genius moves. Who would’ve thought it’ll take two whole episodes to find him. Or a 3 hour endgame.
his photo of the back of the train station was genius, absolutely screwed sam and adam because the back the station looks nothing like the front
Ben's runs are always the most entertaining for the pure chaos factor.
@@chibifirestorm I'd say that didn't really do much. When they did get to the correct station eventually, it took Adam barely anytime to find the back of the building. What I thought was genius was how his perfectly executed misdirection that led them on a goose chase near zug

Ben: I want to send them to Zug.
They go to Zug. They look around. They go back to Zug again.
Ben: Are they... are they going back to Zug? I better go get lunch. This is going to take a while.
My heart jumped when someone passed by right behind Ben at 25:20, thinking that was Adam, looking at his phone for clues, instead of looking up

@randyquinn5277 to be fair, once they found the right path, they got him almost immediately. And it's unlikely they could hear him from the street with those buildings and the trench the playground appeared to be in.

Ben could had laid down on the floor and take a photo that way, but he didn't and i guess sportingly gave them quite a few crucial clues to start with
Ben more than doubling Adam's time is just amazing LMAO
at the start of ben's episode I was thinking "wow Adam is at a massively unfair advantage here because he led them into the corner of the country so they'll lose their hiding time waiting for trains and be severely limited in routes" and assumed Adam would win by default. little did I know the power of Prime Ben and the orange slide

How does Ben do it every time, he seemingly gets away with everything using the sheer force of vibes
For me, this season of Jet lag has done a great job of showing off the locations you are in. Makes me want to visit Switzerland.
Completely agree, sometimes I find the show to skip right over its beautiful settings. But with this one it's the perfect balance of game and exploring towns I would never have known about otherwise. I'm puting this in contention for best season by them tbh
And it shows a much more realistic picture than travel influencers who just show the best landscapes
As a swiss person I am here to tell you that these weird poles they found are to signal that a building with that size will be built there. Its meant for people that may want to stop the building from being built to make a complaint. Such a reason could be something like that it takes your sun away from your garden.
here in america they just put up a sign that says "f--k your garden" and go ahead with construction
@SkateFallen1424 nimbys are actually pretty powerful here, it's really not that hard to get something shut down

Ben might have a promising career as a ninja.
Best thing is: The way they pronounce the town names is so wrong that "awaken" rhymes with "Merlischachen" (which actually has the German hissing sound, not a guttural k-sound). However, "awaken" translates to "erwachen" in German which in turn rhymes with the actual pronunciation of "Merlischachen"😂
Love the content though❤️
hissing sound? you mean ch? in swiss german that's not a hiss at all, more like a drawn out variant to the guttural k sound. look up the word "chuchichäschtli". same applies to "erwachen" though so that also rhymes with the town name in our dialect
@@AximVidya wrong, words ending with "en" in dialects make the n sound silent so there is a rime faillure if you take it directly from english

Adam's mental record scratch when Sam said "wait a minute, I've been here"
Particularly the 'wait, you RAN here????'
The poles at 16:40 are called „profiles“. These are used to outline the shape of a house with its dimension and hight wich is going to be constructed soon. With these the local residents can see, how the new house would be build and how it would impact the view.
man that's absolutely genius. so cool.
in my country they'll just begin construction regardless and without the certainty whether they'll finish it.
Are those the same as story poles? Because that is what I would call them

They even have to put these up for buildings with heights over 100 meters...
And what if the view is obstructed, can they stop the construction of the new house? 😅

Hahaha thought the same
so Sam and Adam were in the same town as Ben for 1 hour, 47 minutes, and 49 seconds before finding him. That was a pretty good hiding spot.
Yeah this Cheese curse really slowed Adam ans Sam down.
It‘s a testament to how difficult hide and seek at such a scale is, because if you look at Merlischachen on Google Maps, it‘s absolutely tiny! And yet it still had them running around like crazy
@@MrAlsachtiit was just happenstance that the store was closed for a while which is 👌
And the town was tiny, like how many times did they walk down the same street Ben was hiding just off?
@@MrAlsachtiMakes me wonder if they could have sped up by taking a train out ot town just to buy cheese lol. But that logic only works in hindsight of course.
This might be the best single format youve done on jet lag so far. Id love to see this across other countries.
Ben's Bamboozlement abilities has grown SOOO MUCH more throughout the different games and seasons. You wouldn't think he was THE ONE to get the 'get drunk' challenges
Ben's runs are one of the most interesting ones and this particular run just tops it all. Sam has got one hell of a score to beat which I don't think is easily possible! Really hope Ben wins this season, he really deserves this!🙌🏻 #teamben
Ben's record is certainly impressive, and I agree will be almost impossible for Sam to beat short of some horrible miscalculation by the seekers.
But I thing that actually brings up an interesting point, I think as impressive as Ben's deception tactics were to his success, I think equally the seekers poor question choice was also to blame for why they ended up taking MUCH longer then it really should have to find Ben.
Like why didn't the seekers ask more relative questions in the beginning of the game...much like in Adam's run, like asking latitude and longitude first to definitely ascertain the particular region Ben is hiding in, that seems like a pretty basic move to do first.
And then move forward with eliminating individual towns with proceeding smaller radar questions and basically shrinking the potential hiding area methodically much like they did in the first run.
Idk it just seemed to me they were kind of running around like a headless chicken all around the north area not really methodically narrowing the potential search area, and instead just relying on those very vague clues from the few photo and oddball questions they asked, going town to town hoping it's the one that matches.
Idk it just seems like they really made a grave strategic error in this case that allowed Ben to get of Scott free much longer that he really should have.
i think they always get overconfident when it comes to ben. they didn’t seem to think too much when he made the obvious rhyme to Zug and just went with it, cuz they didnt think Ben would do something smart which was a grave error in their part lol
@@livethefuture2492they did ask dumb questions and not enough I think
@@livethefuture2492 both zug and Merlischachen were north west of their initial location. so if they'd asked that.. they would've still had the same problem. they already narrowed him down to the area he was in within 2 questions
I think their logic was "it was so easy to find Adam, and Ben is even more disadvantaged". instead of starting at a major hub, they were starting at a small town with infrequent trains. Adam only had 1 hour 45 minutes of train time, he lost 45 minutes waiting for his train and they could see which train options he had. he either went north or south. with the canton question they immediately narrowed it down to his region. they were probably just trying to avoid being cursed, given that they thought they already had him nailed down. and they weren't even really wrong, he DID go north, zug was 20 minutes from his hiding spot
the canton showed the right area, the rhyme had two words that rhymed with that village and showed the region, the lake question showed he was on that lake, the lack of a town hall showed the size, the station helped them cross off zug and the street map gave the game away. they didn't really have redundant questions
also keep in mind.. this is a youtube show. if they just went "are you north, are you east" every time rather than using all the different options they have, the content would be less varied
I love that Ben's ingenious Doyle Playground move let him survive the endgame for a whopping 2.5 hours, fabulous season so far
26:30 Adam at the store and last minute grabbing a pack of candy to give to his friend Ben later was so heartwarming! Also Ben's high fashion fit in this series is unreal!

Okay. Let's ... Oh my god. Let's examine what just happened, because it was incredible.
Ben went to hide and took place before the night. The run started in the end of day 1. That timing was already a huge advantage. You'll see.
• First : The starting place was quite remote, thanks to Adam. And a lot (myself included) thought it was gonna be a disadvantage for Ben, because that cut his hiding time. But actually, it also applies to the chasers, nullifying the malus ! Just as Ben had to do, Adam and Sam needed to wait a *half hour* to be able to leave this place.
-> Time lost : 0h30 / 0h30
• Then the famous button x) Not pressing it and making us laugh for this mistake made them loose an other free 30minutes.
-> Time lost : 0h30 / 1h00
• And now the timing mishaps strike ! Because of the time of start of the chase, Adam and Ben had to get off the train before the rest period started. And due to the way the stations were positioned, they had to stop moving yet an OTHER 30 minutes before night time.
-> Time lost : 0h30 / 1h30
• Wake up everyone ! The chasers are back at the tracks, after having to waste 30 minutes there the day before. But ... wait : they still have to wait AN OTHER 30 minutes for a train for them to be back on tracks ! Meaning that the night period cost them a whole hour !!
-> Time lost : 0h30 / 2h00
• After that, it's standard travel time that I won't count as lost time. But .... wait. They're going to Zug ! Thanks to this fan-favorite play of Ben, they spend 40 minutes exploring the Zug area for nothing.
-> Time lost : 0h40 / 2h40
• After a bit of travel time going south ... Guess what ? It's time for round two ! They're going north back to Zug, baby, and ready to sit on a bench and be flabbergasted as to where the hell could their friend be ?! And they stay there 1h25 !!!! Plenty enough time for Ben to discover a new favorite snack.
-> Time lost : 1h25 / 4h05
• Then they figure out where Ben is, and they go there in about an hour of travel time. Then, THE CHASE !!! Or rather ... Umm ... The ... The WALKING-AROUND-IN-THE-SAME-PLACE !!! (Yeah, it sound better in my head). And after spending almost an hour (50min) in this 1200-people town, they admit they need to roll the cheese. And then 55 other minutes are needed to stumble upon Ben's amazing Narnia's closet of a playground, after brushing past it 3 TIMES !!
-> Time lost : 0h50 / 4h55
-> Time lost : 0h55 / 5h50
So. 5h50 lost on a 9h36 chase.
30 minutes due to the starting location.
1h due to the timing of the rest period.
2h05 due to Ben's move of sending them to Zug, and the luck that their questions (lake, townhall) kept the Zug-area a possibility.
And almost 2h due to Ben finding an amazing hiding place.
It's Sam's turn, now. And by the looks of it, his hiding time ended quite nicely at the end of the day. Meaning nobody will have to wait before or/and after rest period.
Ben's incredible run is a result of a combination of factors that will be hard to pull of again. Brilliant plays, nice timing, amazing playground find, a town out of the line of sight of the chasers, etc ... I think this was the wining run, right there.
If anyone out of Sam and Adam were to score higher, it would be Adam, I think. Because he might start his run in a somewhat similar time than Ben. Also : he'd be the first to do a second run, and therefore the first to start a run with a non-empty pocket : remember, he ended his first run with 35 coins on him. And that'd be a real advantage to start with !
Anyway, can't wait for what's coming. I'm loving it.
The only way to improve on this season is if their hiding times were tallied, so the winner was whoever spent the most time hidden, not the one with the single longest run. If you tally the times, a hider can still win on the last day, if they need a few more hours.
The boys acknowleged this themselves, if Sam gets more than Ben's time in the next round, it's game over. But if the game was cumulative times, then both/either of the the boys could claw back the win in the last day.
ben not using his curses is insane

I was worried Ben having to start from such a remote location would really screw him over... Clearly I didn't need to worry so much 😅 1,000 IQ play through and through.
I have no idea why they didn't ask more questions earlier. The first time I went to the wrong city, I would have been asking a follow up. Curses suck but it's better to get cursed than to wander aimlessly for hours.
No, but the highest tier curses allow the hider to outright change their location. Questions can’t be repeated within a round so it would really be hard to find him that way. Bottom line- curses ARE a big concern.
Ben should have cursed them around the seven minute mark, when they went back to Zug and he got 150 coins for the mountain photo. It must have been clear to him that they were at a total loss and the best time to curse the seekers is when they're completely baffled, cause the only way to unbaffle themselves is by asking more questions.

16:24 Those poles mark the position of a future building in order to get an idea of it's size

Adam bringing Ben glow worm candy is a real snackzone homie move.
spoiler warning: I tried to pinpoint Sam's exact hiding location, just by analyzing the clips from 33:29 to 33:45.
Sam's hiding in "Winterthur Töss". I pinpointed it by:
1. The train station at 33:39 is the main station of Zürich (Zürich HB).
2. From there, he boarded one of the SBB "ICN" tilting train units, which run almost exclusively on the InterCity 5 line of the Swiss railway network.
3. Visible at 33:43 at the train station of Sam's hiding zone is a "Thurbo" train unit, which usually operates in the northeastern part of Switzerland.
4. If you take the InterCity 5 line from Zurich towards the northeast of Switzerland, it only stops at 3 stations: Winterthur, St. Gallen, and Rorschach.
5. Rorschach would be a 2hr and 45min journey from Merlischachen, which would be too far away.
6. The most direct train route from Merlischachen to St. Gallen passes through Arth-Goldau. However, Sam is heading in the opposite direction from Merlischachen towards Lucerne (the station at 33:36 is Lucerne station). Also, the journey from Merlischachen to St. Gallen takes pretty much exactly 2.5 hours, which would make it unlikely for him to get there before his timer ends, given that he also had to get to the Merlischachen train station and wait for the correct train.
7. Regarding the aforementioned points, we can confirm that Sam took the regional train to Lucerne, then a train to Zurich, and then another one to Winterthur.
8. Winterthur station is way too big to match the one visible at 33:43. So Sam changed to the "Thurbo" regional train (the one visible in the clip at 33:43) at Winterthur.
9. At Winterthur station, "Thurbo" trains run in 5 different directions: The S26 to Rüti ZH, the S29 to Stein am Rhein, the S30 to Weinfelden, the S35 to Wil SG, and the S41 to Bülach.
10. By playing the video at 0.25 speed at 33:43, we can try to read the orange destination display on the train. We can't be 100% sure, but it's most likely to match to "Bülach".
11. The S41 from Winterthur to Bülach only stops at 5 stations: Winterthur Töss, Winterthur Wülflingen, Pfungen, Embrach-Rorbas and Bülach.
12. The stations Bülach, Embrach-Rorbas, and Pfungen are ruled out because the most direct way to any of these involves passing Bülach station, which Sam didn't pass (as we proved earlier, he passed through Winterthur)
13. The train station at 33:43 doesn't feature level-boarding (as you can see, you have to take a step onto a metal platform, and then another one onto the train), which is pretty rare nowadays in Switzerland.
14. After checking both images on Google for Winterthur Wülflingen and Winterthur Töss, we can rule out Wülflingen, because it features a modern railway platform with level boarding. The buildings in the background also don't match the ones at Wülflingen.
15. We are left with Winterthur Töss station. We can prove our assumption by checking on the buildings in the background at 33:43, which match exactly with the ones on Google Street View at Winterthur Töss station.
Hey! I did the same thing and can confirm it's Töss. When I looked at the Station the left building in the Background in the scene with the Thurbo threw me off because if you look at it in street view there is a different building. So the one in the Video and on sattellite is relatively new. The one on street view seemingly got demolished
Did you notice those are nepalese flags in front of the restaurant Sam recorded the last scene? Very strange. I tried to figure it out for ages before I looked at the route he took.😅
Interesting
Based on the trailer he's probably hiding in the forest since it's shown Ben and Adam walking through the forest
It's gonna be interesting if the very first question they asked were gonna be the bodies of water one
🤔🤔🤔
why in all the places in switzerland did he have to choose winti töss😂
Interesting I ended up with Raterschen but yeah it could also be Winterbur Toss
To answer Sam's question at minute 17:10
These poles are called "Profile" (German Word) and are distributed a few months before a house is built and show the residents of the neighborhood where the houses will stand. The small metal pieces at the top show the corners and shape of the roof and which way the walls will face. The purpose of the whole thing is that residents can object to the municipality if they do not agree with the construction or if the plans violate the law. In this case, the company that wants to build there has to change its plans. Swiss democracy
Sam casually running 7.5 miles from Lucerne is insane
Training for long distance running is kinda like that, you either loop an area and get bored or run a few towns over to get the distance
Why? It's only 12 kilometers, so about a quarter marathon. If you're training to improve endurance, which it seems like Sam is, that's a kind of bare minimum, isn't it?
Following along on the map, I was confused whrn they said "no playgrounds showed up on Google Maps," because his location was clearly marked as Doyle Playground.
Then I realized why it was labeled as Doyle playground...
24:40 It's different in the US, but where I'm from, playgrounds are frequented by adults who just want to chill for a bit all the time XD They have benches and swings to sit on, they have structures which provide shelter, and general positive vibes. I've never encountered anyone giving a shit about adults using playgrounds. It's not creepy if it's normal.
Bit weird to sit under the slide though
And definitely noone would shoot you for sitting on a playground. 😂
12:17 Sam drinking the redbull was because he was preparing to fly away immediately after they found ben
Sam said in the podcast that he had to pee badly and was starving the whole time they were in Meerlischachen because he thought they'd catch Ben quick and he could do all that on the next train out.
9:33 Top 10 Jet lag moment right here…
I think when the winner is how long you hid, a 4 day hard stop is bad. You should each get 2 runs.
"if you see a fully grown man sitting under a slide, you should be able to kill him"
this quote matches Ben's energy from Tag season 2 where he said "we could call in a bomb threat" to keep Adam from getting too far ahead
Ben sitting in his secret playground just ooooozing smugness
I doubted Ben so much at the start of his run. I thought the struggle he had of getting away from Adam's hiding place would really make his run super short! But he just- DID IT!
As someone from Switzerland, I can confirm that Ben, Adam and Sam's pronunciation of Swiss names is not always spot on, but every time hilarious 😂
yeah the rhyming joker basically relies on them all mispronouncing town names the same way, and hilariously, it works perfectly 😂
16:30 if you plan on building a house in Switzerland you have to publish your building plans and neighbours can control that you don't break the law and that you don't worsen their land value. Whilst this phase is going you have to put up poles showing where the corners of your building will be and how high it will be there.
Cherish Ben’s innocence lol his jokes about being creepy had me laugh so hard
24:40 “I feel like if you see a fully grown child sitting under the slide you should be allowed to kill them” HAHAHAHHA
Ben pulled one of the single best plays in 9 seasons of jet lag, if not the best (pls account for recency bias and my horrendous memory too)
Arguably his play in tag in Europe season 2 is better but it’s still a great play and I personally think considering his circumstances his rhyme clue was genuinely insane
he just slipped away in Metz (if I remember correctly) last time. But this time, he purposely threw them to Zug and let them spend 6 hours just to find his town. This is definitely higher IQ play.
It's kinda hard to compare when every season (except 3&7) has different rules.
@@mysterioushomoguy to be fair, zug was only 20 minutes from his location, and two of the words he gave rhymed with his village. I wouldn't say it was so much a mega IQ play, considering they went the exact right way immediately, but more like their hubris trying to show off some of the other powerups, assuming they'd find him quickly instead of using their toolkit properly
@@mysterioushomoguy Hé slipped away from Metz to Bar-de-Luc.
Gotta say, asking so few questions is quite the trip up on the way to finding Ben that might cost Sam and Adam their victories- who knows what comes in the later runs though.
Yeah. I felt Sam was so focused on asking as few questions as possible that he would let so much time pass. And when he did ask, he tried to do weird clever things that would PROBABLY give a hint about where Ben is when a simple "whipe out half the map" question like north/south east/west would have absolutely been worth the coins to Ben.
@@CaptNSquared Yeah it really seemed like they could have asked better questions to narrow things down sooner
Maybe they are too worried over the curses, or we've yet to see more disruptive ones (the apple one did add a fair amount of time though)
As someone else already wrote. If they asked North/South questions throughout the season it might be efficient on a gameplay respective, but noch from a entertainment perspective.
In the end this for our entertainment.
sam skipping past something to then being like "100% here" is classic sam
ben being an absolute mastermind and a comedic genius is classic ben
adam kicking himself after figuring out that he missed it 73 times is classic adam
and the legend of the Merlischachen ghost was born.
Ben with his white snow suit looks like a German James Bond villain
Being four hours ahead before they even cleared the curse was huge
Ben being soooooo smug about his location and not being found and I'm here for it. 😁
#TeamBen
I think that Sam could be somewhere near St. Gallen because on 33:43 you see something written on the train which says „Legendär seit 1879“ which means „legendary since 1879“ with the logo of the Football Club of St. Gallen right beneath.
We need another hide + seek series after this
A new episode of the greatest series on RUclips
Tunnel vision Sam is giving Ben the win
Sam threw so hard in this episode had it only been Adam I think Ben would of been found sooner
Adam: raw power, go fast, go hard
Sam: do the smart thing, even if it's predictable
Ben: either 5D chess or complete luck, you never know
Those things are not for thunder, it is to show how a building would look like at this place. People have a month at least to veto it before construction
this episode gave me so much joy and excitement. let out a giggle whenever sam and adam just went past ben again. such a feel good show and amazing content!!
Sam being so confident in his tree identification skills and then walking straight past those trees is killing me.
There are few joys as wholesome as trying a new food while traveling and loving it despite having no idea what it is.
even though I have nebula I still get so happy when I see the jet lag icon in my notifications
best season yet no doubt, absolutely loving it
I love the joy of reuniting and getting to share fondue
PERFECT TIMING
best season yet!!!!
We haven’t seen the whole season yet 😂
THE BEST BY FAR
The concept is really fun but 4 days just seems too short. There's a good chance Adam is the only player who gets to have a second run which is kinda lame (though he does need it lol)
@@pyrotechnic96yeah, I think it would have been best to give everyone two runs.
Ben is a legend!! I wish the series were longer - it is just amazing
