I'm a RN and insulin syringes are not the best way to give a B12 injection. First, the needle is so short it will not hit a bone. Insulin syringes with such a short needle can cause bruising. A 1" IM needle is better because it doesn't cause bleeding. Draw the B12 up with a larger gauge needle like a 28 or lower. 28 is best because it doesn't leave a large hole in the rubber. Then remove the needle and replace it with a 30 gauge. The larger the number of the needle gauge the thinner it is and slides into the skin. I don't know if you have nurses as patients but it would be better if you had checked with them first. Have a great day!
Thank you. Most self injection videos are bodybuilders with huge deltoids. Seeing a woman with similar build to mine is super helpful. Done and it was easy
Hi Cad, different practitioners use different needles. We use a highly concentrated B12 and so can use a smaller amount in a smaller needle. Much more comfortable especially if you use it frequently.
Just so people know a reason they are telling me.they forgot my blood transfusion during my hysterectomy. I had endometriosis which messed with my immune system. It's very poor at times. My blood was destroyed by years of being sick. First time I am trying this at home so I'm nervous. Thank you for the tips 😊
I know this is ab old video, but im having to take B12. I opted to inject myself as otherwise I would have to drive 45min to my Dr. I have longer needles, and I tried in my arm, like this, but had alot of vleeding afterwards. Obv, I did not do it correctly. I started injecting into my thigh. I found it much easier, but I still get nervous that im not doing it right. 😅
I was given prescription Cyanocobalamin. I thought it had to be in thicker & longer needle into muscle per internet search but no info from doctor or pharmacist . Is the smaller insulin needle ok to use? In fat? I used to take insulin for t1d pre kidney pancreas transplant. Is there concentration level on vial or any way to find out. I've had script filled 3 wks ago & still hesitant to take before knowing. Thanks in advance for any information!
I did my first one today. They didn’t give me a needle so I used an insulin syringe. I was told to put it in my hamstring. My Skin it very thin I hope it got it in the muscle.
Dear Doc, my body is unable to absorb Vitamin B due to some intrinsic factor related to my Gut..im trying to do this to my self as well ..im a 47 year old but im scared ill get it wrong..maybe firstcouple of time and ill be an expert i guess. God knows I ha waiting 1 hr or more at the clinic just for this jab.
Since you cannot absorb B-12 normally, you should have your physician show you how to inject B-12. The way she's doing it in the video may work for people who are just trying to supplement the B-12 they get from food but if you have pernicious anemia or any other condition whereby injections are the only way nyou can get B-12, PLEASE ignore this woman's instructions. Once you have cell and nerve damage due to B-12 deficiency, you can NEVER repair the damage. In our case of B-12 deficiency, we must inject into muscle, NOT subcutaneously. We MUST use a bigger syringe (such as 3.0 ml, 22guage, 1 1/2") NOT an insulin syringe. It can be done by someone else into the shoulder (deltoid muscle) or self injected into the thigh. Please get a demonstration from a qualified doctor or nurse, NOT a RUclips video. This video is misleading and dangerous.
You hardly had any B12 in the needle. It was like 20 or 30 units. I have to take 100 units - 1 ml shot. I have a 10 ml bottle of b12 which has 10 shots in it.
Hi, it is only a small amount because the B12 that I use is highly concentrated at 25,000mcg/0.1ml. This way a small amount actually still gives a high dosage.
Hi @broheim, there is no real advantage outside of using a small, less invasive needle. You ca. Opt for a high concentration in a small needle or a lower concentration in a larger needle, but they will work out to be the same amount given.
I have been giving myself B12 injections for some time now but today I guess I got in the wrong spot of something because I ended up with a red blotchy lump on my thigh under my skin. Has never happened before. Do you know what would have caused this?
lol I injected my wife her friend and myself today with b12 I did it in the butt cheek only because it’s a bigger muscle I make sure to have a very sterile environment wash my hands with alcohol and use alcohol wipes to clean the area before and after the injection

Can you use a small needle like that ? I was told not to and the ones they gave me are quite long and thicker. Can anyone advise?
yes, these are the needles that I use with my patients. The compounded B12 is very thina dn does not require a thicker, higher gauge needle.
Maybe that’s why we are struggling with our self injections. Our pharmacist gave us very long and thick needles.
Thank you doctor. I'll be trying it today.😍
Why do I get a longer, thicker needle prescribed to be?

Most likely the B12 you’re getting is a lower concentration. When it’s highly concentrated you can use a smaller amount in a smaller needle.
In the uk we use a much longer needle to go into the muscle ie 1.25 minumum
I was given a 18 gauge 1 1/2” needle. Is that ok?

Where do you find pre-filled needles with higher concentration of B12 like the one you used?
These are ones that I pre fill for my patients at my clinic. You may also be able to get them at a compounding pharmacy with a prescription.
Hello when you used insulin syringe what is the correct amount you used?
Is it normal to have a lump after injection ?
Thank you, wha other sides do you recommend to do?

Hi can it be injected into the stomach please? I thought you needed a long needle to reach the muscle, thank you
Not in a lean part of the body like a shoulder you would if you went into your bum
Can I buy B12 shot without prescription?
thank you Dr. God bless you
The methycolabamin /b12 im getting from compound rx is a powder that is mixed with srile water. Is this common way of doing it?
Yes this is how compounding pharmacies make it. You should receive it as a final product, as a liquid in a vial.
Ma’am what size needle was you using ? Thank you
I use the BD Ultra Fine 8mm 31gauge
@@dr.daniellenaturopath It should be given intramuscularly, NOT sub Q.
Hi, what was the deficiency in ur health to take b12 injunction
This is typically used for a B12 deficiency, or certain anemia’s as seen on blood work, but there are other reasons why people may require extra B12.
Hi Dr can i do it under the belly stomach?
Yes, you can inject in the stomach. Best to pinch some skin up and inject there.
I was taught that it is to go into a muscle @@dr.daniellenaturopath

Dr. Danielle O'Connor ND IT IS GOOD FOR DEPRESSION?
Yes, B12 can be great for mood, there is high quality research on this. It’s great to get your levels checked first to see where you are.
Yes B12 can be good for depression, especially if your levels are low. Best to discuss with your doctor.
