Thank you!! I've been putting off my shot for over a month, and finally did it today. The stretching of the skin and scratching was a super helpful tip. Seriously, I'm deathly afraid of needles, if I was able to do it, so can you. Believe it!!

I've been putting off beginning my self-injections because I thought I'd be giving 'em in my stomach, like before (30 years ago, wow) but no it's to go in my leg/top of thigh exactly as you demonstrate--- and the needle, goodness but it's LONG. For nearly a month I've put this day off-- trying to find someone who would give me the injection or at least show me how... and during that time my lessening of energy, my headaches, etc have worsened. I am so grateful Laurie---super super grateful.

I’ve done many injections in the ventroglute (hip) I find it to be the easiest spot, and pain free. You can also draw back on the full syringe and replace with a new sharp needle of a smaller gauge. 30 works. Just twist the old one off. It will be dulled from the rubber stopper

@TheCurtisdavies You need to discuss that with your doctor, but I take a shot every 2 weeks. I am thankful my insurance covers most of the cost. For me, B12 injections are a necessity. My body does not naturally absorb B12, and it causes me numerous health problems if I dont get the injections. If it isn't a real necessity, that could be why insurance doesn't cover it. I dont know your situation or the type of insurance you have, but best of luck to you.

Let me just say that while this gave me the courage to give myself a shot in the top of my thigh, it hurt like a son-of-a-gun! And bled quite a lot!
So I must of hit a nerve and possibly an artery? I'm not sure. Now I'm not nearly as confident about doing this again, but I need to be. Because my arms, especially at my elbows are cold and asleep when I awaken in the morning.
I survived the shot and didn't seek any medical attention. The bleeding stopped about 3 min afterwards. The pain is about 70% better and it's been 5 1/2 hours. Still not as bad as when the nurse hit my sciatic nerve giving me a B12 shot in the hip, so professionals are not always the better route. Phlebotomists certainly can't seem to draw blood worth a darn these days and they have bruised myself and my mother and it hurts us quite badly.
I think I will have my husband give me the next one and then hope to be brave enough to give it to myself again. He says it hurts him when he does it to himself, so that is why I wanted to learn, especially since all the new latest and greatest prescriptions are now injectable, like the one my husband and a friend of mine have just been prescribed.
Some additional suggestions. Try to get as much air out of the needle as possible. This video by the VA ruclips.net/video/fMEZdNodGM0/видео.html shows at 2:26 seconds, exactly where your muscle in your leg and hip are and if giving in the thigh it is best to go off to the side just a bit and not directly on top of your leg. At 4 min on the VA video it shows how to best get the air out of the needle which IS IMPORTANT!
Despite all the pain and blood I'm still glad I watched this video and got the courage to do it myself. I WILL try again, just a little differently. Thank you for this video and best wishes to everyone that needs shots to maintain their health and well-being.

The information about the pressurized bottle was good, haven't seen that info before. It's difficult to see the needle injection and injection site, which is what scares and confuses most people. How far do you push in the needle in before injecting? Do you push the needle all the way in? What about pulling back on the syringe to see if there's blood coming out (some people do this, viewers don't know why).

Does the needle go all the way in? Like 100% if the needle? All the way to the hilt? Do I push the plunger in and release all the b12 when needle is all the way in or do I release it a little bit as I’m pulling it out? I’m terrified to do my own shots!!….. I’m not scared if needles , but I cannot seem to do this… I’m getting my courage up… what if I panic and break the needle? I’m sweating bullets just thinking about it….. thanks. (Signed not a baby but maybe toddler-ish? At 50 yrs old 🤣🤣)

The belly is good if you are giving a subcutaneous injection. She is doing an IM - even thin folks have some belly fat so you need a much longer needle to get down to a muscle. This is an easy muscle to get to for most people.
