    The pop corn does not need to be soaked like rye grain, the kernels are boiled until they are soft and can be bitten into, then it is strained and layed out to air dry for 30 minutes. The popcorn is then loaded into prepared jars or filter patch bags and sterilized at 15 psi for 2-2.5 hours.
    2-4 ml of liquid culture is sufficient to establish an initiative phase of mycelium that can be shaken to speed up colonization.
    The fully colonized spawn is then mixed with pasteurized straw or other substrate in buckets or other fruiting container.
    After full colonization of the fruiting container, humidity and fresh air is introduced.

    This is awesome, thanks for sharing! A few newbie's questions, does the colonized straw produce more fruits or do you throw it away? What other substrate can you use besides straw that's cheap and easy to get? Those chestnut mushrooms in your store look great, can I grow them using the 2 methods you describe in this video?

    • @SporenSprout
      @SporenSprout  3 года назад +3

      Yea they will continue to grow from the straw multiple times. May need to rehydrate it. You can use sawdust, chestnuts prefer sawdust as a substrate.

    • @SporenSprout
      @SporenSprout  Год назад

      During the night you can leave it on until morning. The bigger the mushrooms get the more fresh air they need. So once you start to see pins you should increase the amount of fresh air.

    • @SporenSprout

      Yes, micro pore tape will help prevent the holes from drying out and help retain humidity. You can also cover with a trash bag. After about 1 week you take the tape/bag off.

    • @mathiasogard2081
      @mathiasogard2081 Год назад +1

      There is a very nice low-tech method that involves soaking substrate in Hydrated lime for a while, perhaps it could be applied to your situation. With that being said, I dont know how it would work when you want to inoculate a substrate with a spore syringe or liquid culture. I have only transferred grain spawn to a substrate that has been sterilized with the hydrated lime method.
      Best of luck to you sir!

      In Australia we can get sugar can straw. It is already chopped in small bails from Bunnings stores. It is the tops from the sugar cane, it is full of sugars the mycelium loves the stuff. People use it for garden mulch. So try your garden Centre. I used to buy regular straw taken from large bails for my sons rabbit and guinea pigs from a produce place for horses etc. It is pretty cheap to buy.
