How to Grow Mushrooms: PF TEK

  • The PF Tek is the method i used to grow my first mushrooms when i was a beginner in mushroom cultivation so i am happy to share the method with you all!
    The ratio is 2 parts Vermiculite, 1 part Water and 1 part Brown rice flour(BRF). For 6 pint jars or 12 half pint jars i use 6 cups Vermiculite, 3 cups Water, and 3 cups BRF. I mix the Vermiliculite and Water first and then add in the BRF.
    You can pressure cook the jars for 30 minutes at 15 psi or you can steam sterilize in a pot of water for 2 hours.

      hell yes. You can use PF cakes for inoculating other substrate, but it gets tricky because you might be introducing contams at every new step of the way.@@belghirudanielaelena7200

    PF Tek is great if you don't want to work with agar. The stuff is really resilient to contamination. I've gone spore prints straight to jars and it just works (P. Natals really do great). The downside is that fruiting to PF Tek cakes doesn't give great yields, so I like to start with PF and expand it to more sterilized grain.

    • @mastertrey4683

      In my opinion pftek just seems super obsolete compared to something like broke boi tek. You can always make grain spawn using brown rice, like you said it is contamination resistant compared to other grains and it is very nutritious as well, good yielding spawn. If you can inoculate a PFtek jar, you can inoculate a grain jar, the process is identical, and once thats done your sterile practice is pretty much done.
      The fact you have to use a fruiting chamber also removes the convenience aspect of pftek. You can s2b in an unmodified sterilite shoebox, and basically all you have left is to wait. Its also smaller and you can just stick it in your closet. Fan the box out once a day when ready to fruit. Youll get better yields and if you ask me its much simpler. All you really have to do is prep the coco coir in a bucket, prep the grain spawn then its really as simple as sticking them both in a shoebox

    • @LazerCatHelmet
      @LazerCatHelmet День назад

      @@botondrakasz5838 YES, you can use colonized PF as spawn. Pf is so cheap and easy, try it for outdoor beds similar to a tub setup.. but not sterile. Most varieties dont mind much if your weather is fair. Rodents and bears are a bigger issue than Tam.

    • @LazerCatHelmet
      @LazerCatHelmet День назад

      I microwave these all the time and rarely get a tam. Its usually the LC source and my fault for skipping agar. Dont even need real mason jars, just microwave safe plastic like pp5. You can get SHIPS and air filter patches, but even these dont need to be bought- you can simply melt or drill 2 holes in the lid, stuff polyfill (not cotton-it can grow stuff easier) in one hole for a filter, and use high temp RTV silicone to make a Self Healing Injection Port out of the other hole. Just mushroom the silicone a bit after it starts to set and has a skin, but is still soft inside. You can also fruit single containers (of any size) without a chamber, by leaving it in jar, removing lid and putting a larger container like a water pitcher upside down over it. Or even a ziplock bag.

    So you do spray it everyday? I keep having issues with mold but i dont fan my boxes enough that could be why but then other times ill leave the lid cracked and mold still forms even with fresh air. Ive had it where i dont open it at all and no mold grows its so random theres no pattern. I noticed the water likes to wick to the bottom and mold no matter what i do. Is that why you put perlite under your cakes? Just curious it could be a good prevention method
