As always great video Nick, quite an in-depth first look. Only two colors is kind of a bummer, BUT at least they offer the choice between MATTE and GLOSSY. I can't stand glossy backs tbh, they are a fingerprint magnet. I hate that. Matte is the way to go. Other than that I'm seriously impressed with the camera capabilities. The motion sensing feature sounds genius, and from the shots I've seen, it truly works wonders. 2:16 Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Honor pretty much the only brand that allows users to use 90hz refresh rate on a 120hz display? It's always either the 120hz or 60hz, but never an option for 90hz which is the sweet spot of fluidity and battery life. And since people are already crowning the S23U as "phone of the year", IMO this one is better, at least from what I've seen so far. Yes yes I know Honor isn't very good with software updates (Samsung is king in this regard) but the Honor Magic5 Pro is still a TOP flagship no matter how you look at it. A major upgrade from last year's 4 Pro (which had a midrange main sensor WITHOUT OIS!). Currently I have an imported Vivo X90 Pro+ and using it in Europe, however some things like notifications from certain apps are being wonky when using dark mode (very annoying) so I'm looking at other options and this Honor beast sounds very appealing.
Hey bud! Thanks for such an informative comment and I really appreciate the support and I’m glad you enjoyed the video :) yeah I’m not too sure if any other offer a 90Hz option so it’s nice to have the extra option for sure! The motion sensing is no gimmick, it’s amazing! The Vivo is a great device but I hear you with the software limitations in a global area and the 1 inch sensor to me is a tad overhyped. The Magic5 Pro is pretty close to that large sensor size and takes some of the best pics I’ve seen even on an unfinished model like the one I have. If you can afford to get rid of the Vivo and buy the HONOR when it goes global you would no doubt love it in terms of software and hardware but the Vivo is still a fantastic device so it’s a tough one. If I had to say straight up, I’m more of a fan of HONOR flagships because of the great optimization they have on board. Cheers!
Very impressive work by Honor. It would be nice to see a comparison between Vivo, Xiaomi, Samsung and Honor. It steel remains the essence from Huawei in the software and now cameras and optimisation. Love your work greetings from Portugal. 👍
DxoMark is not something for me, like they rate Pixel 7 pro as second best bokeh when it clearly has the most detection errors and also portrait mode looks terrible
I swear if big Android phone companies ditching the curved display on their high-end device, i'm surely they will be more favourite than iPhone especially Honor (a.k.a Huawei cousin) or Xiaomi.
I like it because it has wider display aspect ratio like samsung and iPhone 19.5:9 unlike xiaomi, realme, oppo, vivo etc..i hate phones that is too tall and narrow
Easy to see why this went straight to DXO number one and easily pushing the S23U out of the Top 10. I assume a future update will keep it ahead of the S23U and 2022 rivals, and hard to imagine what will beat it this year.
The more content I watch about this phone the more I want to buy it. I wonder whether an ultimate version is on the works. Fantastic photo review regardless, great content.
Great review Nick! For some reason YT was showing you on my suggestions recently. Glad to find you again. Question: I'm in China now and wondering what would be the disadvantages of buy China version as prob cheaper, better battery and more colors ect. Would it be hard to add google services and if I moved to the US would it be hard to use it on version networks? Thx
Thanks man! Appreciate the support 🙌 getting GMS on the Chinese versions in the past was almost impossible so I really have no idea hey… i personally wouldn’t risk it since it will make for some serious frustration, trust me I had tried with the Chinese Magic3 series and it was painful. I’d rather wait for the global one if possible? I’m sure you can get it from a supplier in HK and shipped to China? Might only be available beginning April though..
Love the hair cut. Regarding the phone, it looks great and I hope it comes to South Africa. However, I am torn between this and the Mate 50 Pro. 5g and the lack of GMS doesn't bother me since it has no impact on the use of my P40 pro. The Mate 50 Pro and Honor Magic 5 Pro is at the top of DXO Mark. But I saw in one of their pics that the Huawei still had better night shots which is important for me. I also like the look of the Huawei over this 3 camera arrangement. Difficult choice.
It is on Honor South Africa site, so should come soon, especially seeing as how in this box the charging brick has the same standard as our plug standard.
I'm using the 512GB Vegan Leather Mate 50 Pro, for me, the 10x drop resistance, reliability of camera hardware and software and niche but cool features like emergency battery mode made it a clear choice for me
@@davidwise6867 Thanks. This helps. I love the Mate 50 Pro. I just wish it had the snapdragon 8 gen 2 though. How are the cameras? Have you had a P40 Pro before? My P40 Pro cameras are simply amazing even almost 3 years after launch. The wide angle camera is even more amazing since Huawei made it the default camera for video recording. The new Huaweis don't do that so I worry the wide angle isn't as good in lowlight as the P40 Pro. I managed to test the zoom of the Mate 50 Pro in store and that is definitely improved. I took the same pic side by side with my P40 Pro. Even though my P40 Pro has a 5x telephoto vs the Mate 50 Pro 3.5x, the Mate 50 Pro had a clearer image at 10x hybrid zoom. So that is great. Just worried about the wide angle.
@@Diablo22967 It will be very interesting to see the prices from the carriers on contract. It is tempting because of the snapdragon 8 gen 2 chipset over the Mate 50 Pro and perhaps to a lesser extent the fact that it has GMS. But somehow I trust Huawei's hardware and cameras more than Honor. And despite the Magic 5 Pro being number one on DXO mark, the Mate 50 Pro is a close second and the lowlight pics on the Huawei still looked better.
@@SDav21 yes my previous phone was the P40 Pro, a friend of mine got the P50 Pro and there wasn't much difference between P40 Pro and P50 Pro to be honest. But the jump from P40 Pro to Mate 50 Pro is HUGE. In almost no light I can take a great picture without the need for night mode. The details in portrait pictures are on par if not better than iPhones. I don't really use the wide angle camera all that much but there's an improvement in clarity/image quality when I take a picture and then zoom in (P40 Pro would look a bit pixelated)
Honor Phone is jammed pack with bunch of features than other brands. I hope the front display is kunlun Glass, Maybe this is the best Smartphone to date on my opinion because it clearly have a notch to competition.
Hello honor magic 5 pro - honor magic 5 lite If the battery test is not infected, make a video about how long the battery power is from 100% to 0% ▶️📶📱☝️👈👍
I see if the camera is upside down Two above, one below would have looked better from the back I was wondering choosing the 66watt charger in place of the 100 watt that they have used in the previous version I mean, choosing 80 watt will be more logical if they wanted to save the battery life but it's a big decrease to go from 100 to 66watt
I assume the downgrade is due to the new high-density battery they are using in China. Meaning they get an extra 10% battery capacity for the same size.
It depends if they choose to have a split battery (which is sort of a bad idea, ages faster, more waste, more pacacking and less capacity) or the classic one battery style Given the fact that the chinese variant supports a new battery technology, it makes sense that the motherboard would be designed to have a single battery connector and thus support a signle battery
@@khalid17739 With the new stuff i have no idea but for the international variant they should be able to : there exists 240W charging phones, that's 120 per cell Maybe honor just isn't capable of it I wouldn't buy a honor phone anyway, you can't unlock the bootloader on them.
