At last the review is here! The charging time is a bit of a letdown honestly but not enough to damage the overall goodness of the phone, thank you Chris!
To be fair I don't think that long battery charging is a bad thing. There should be something that we're missing. Maybe after last year Honor Magic 4 Pro , where was 100W wired and wireless charging they analysed everything and decided that it's better less for the battery life in general. Apple , Pixel and Samsung use even worst 'fast charging' and they didn't give you any type of charger. If that fast charging technology is that safety and good for the phones, why Apple and Samsung don't make a 200W charger , and sell it separately from the box with 100$?! Maybe BBK and Xiaomi use that fast charging for the marketing because they don't have anything else to impress people and make them to buy their phones outside of China . I have now 1+7Pro , I use it almost 4 years, and for 2019 it has a really fast charge ( Wharp Charging 30 W), but after 2 years of using from 4000mAh only 3250 left (by AccuBattery test), when I check 3 years later it was around 2800 mAh left, now in general if I'm making pictures and using maps, it's run out of battery in 2-3 h. So maybe, after Honor decided to support their phone 3 years with Android Updates and 5 years with security patch updates, they decided to decrease the fast charge speed to save the life battery IDK, it's just my thoughts.
Honor sold the Magic5 pro during Black Friday Deals for 760Euro in the 12+512GB Version over here in Germany. Considering that its a close runner to S23ultra and Iphone 15max, which cost at least 1000-1500Euros, thats an amazing deal, not even considering the difference in GBs or what you get with the package.

Great review. The quick shutter speed is fantastic and 4k video up front is refreshing on a Chinese device. Seems like 65 watt charging should be around 35 minutes but all fast charging is not created equal. The Supervooc/Dart charging system from Realme (BBK) is on another level. They can do with an 80 watt transformer what others do with 120.

Very good deal yes.
bought mine second hand by 600€, 1 month usage with warranty and original box and accesories. hope I will receive it next monday. it seems a bargain to me for this price.
@@leopoldomarinero8649 definitely!
Great review as always ! I just want to mention that the fingerprint reader is not ultrasonic but optical
Oh correct yes, I was thinking in my Vivo X90 Pro
might be a bit late, but im thinking of buying one. ive been looking at this for a long time, and i rarely upgrade. this is a wonderful video. thanks
Just the review i need. Thank you. Not a heavy gamer ...a well rounded phone that would be a little future proof. 😊 Good front and main cam , ip68 rating flagship chipset , big battery., cheaper than the xiaomi 13 pro , s23 ultra for sure. Great comprehensive review
Glad I could help, two more videos with the HONOR Magic5 Pro coming!
Yeah I did a double take and of course used the original cable and charger I expected around 40 minutes. Not 60. Not sure why.
Thanks for the review this is what I wanted to see 🔥🔥
Glad I could help
Consider the vivo x90 pro plus, already had 3 updates in this month and the last one improve more the camera overall
I like your detailed explanation review & esp those real life tests. Some of the sales stuffs done even have this experience experiences so they can't give me an in depth demo. Thank you, will be following all your posts.
Thanks for watching!
Hoi Techtablets.
Wat is de protection van de backside glass,.
En de One Plus 12 is upcoming, shall i wait for it.

Very good review as always 👏👏👏
And btw honor really impressed me with this phone
seems like overall a good device!
Yes really well rounded phone with a main camera that can match the IMX989 phones. Love the faster wider f/1.6 and that natural bokeh it produces. Also great marco camera, fingerprint reader and the proper 3D face unlocking at the cost of the ugly pill cut out!
Great cameras and device overall. If lt really comes at 1100-1200€ this is an interesting choice. Great review!
Yes if the base model well sell for that it's a great choice.
Awesome review as always, appreciate it a lot mate.! If its on the same price range with S23U, definitely i will go to sammy.. Let see when it will available in UAE..
I think it will be quite a bit cheaper. Thanks for watching!
If the price as anounced in the beginning then this is a beast phone in Europe. Was waiting for this review great video! 👑
there are discounts for the presale in all EU countries where this phone is offered (on the official Honor websites
). I bought it on the German website with a EUR 150 discount and a smartwatch for EUR 9,90 (regular price EUR 189).
@@mariola6182 yeah I've got email with code for 300€ discount but here in Spain on their oficial site the presale starts only April 19th and it's still without a price. Have to wait a week and see how it will go.
@@gizmohungry9739 got the same email and if you scroll down you will see tiny text with the price 😉 I'm pretty sure all EU countries with Euro will have the same regular price
I've always liked Honor since my old note 10 Honor back in the day. Good to see them gaining some ground this model. Thanks Chris for the review. Kindest regards, Richard U.K
Thanks for watching!
I wish Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor all would take their global presence more seriously. Its really tiring having basically Samsung and Pixels as relevant Android options in the US. I dont see any of these companies promotiong or developing an ecosystem like Samsung's or Apple though. Dex, etc. Features I dont see anyone but Samsung doing at the moment.
Great review again. I can't seem to find your camera comparison with the 5 pro and s23 ultra/14 pro?
It will be ready soon! (1-2 hours)
@@Techtablets Ah ok great! 👍
Nice phone, would really suit me as a replacement for my Find X3 Pro
So the UK one is £849 with a case, free Honor earbuds 3 pro, wireless charging stand, and screen protector. Seems pretty good.
Very good deal.
You should mention the cashback too pal ;) TCB 10% with code too
Released today for £850 if you have early bird discount. A bit expensive, but I guess better than a Samsung galaxy S23+ for the same price if you trade in any phone for £200.
Still a great price I paid 1300+ for my S23 Ultra 512GB on launch day.
Magic 5 Pro is one of my number list excluding iphone and Samsung flagships. It has 4k on front camera video recording.
Getting mine this week for 380 British pounds grade a condition comes with box and charger can't wait
Where did you buy from?
Looks a nice phone , what are honor like for software updates and support ?
At 2:50 please note there is indeed desktop mode, just needs to be selected from the top icon on the phone once a display gets connected via usb-c, there are two choices 1) Screen mirror and 2) Desktop mode :)
My present midrange Huawei phone is due for replacement and I will most probably get this Honor phone soon.
How's the pulse-width modulation in this phone , is better than in Samsung phones ? It have a dc dimming ? When you use this phone for a long time , did you feel any pain in your eyes or any kind of discomfort?
Love this review. What was your thoughts on the drop down menu above? Was it difficult to drag down as supposedly you have to drag it down with your thumb right at the top of the screen and can't drag down from the middle of the screen. Meaning more hand stretching. Does that make sense? Thanks alot
Not at all it's fine really and I get what you mean.
@@Techtablets brilliant. Well I'll be deffo be going for the Honor Magic 5 Pro after this review. Thanks a lot matey. Love your vids
You'll not disappoint it, I'm really enjoying it. If only the video quality was as good as my Galaxy S23U I would sell it. But I love some of the photos it produces. The macro camera/ultrawide is stunning.
I've purchased it . Wil arrive next week. Did you experience a lot rainbow lens flares like in your video 11:10 min ? Ive seen them during daytime in many reviews in photos/videos
Is something to be worried about?
Hi it happened in the sun just now and then like a lens flare affect. Not a big issue but it's there and now and then you'll see it.
Just wish the charging time was closer to 40 minutes, but other than that, seems nearly perfect other than the lack of an app drawer, with the stock launcher. Great review, as always.
Well I messed up as it has an App drawer! And yes i wish the charging time was better.
But i think you will not drain it to zero right? 30%plus then charge it will be quick i think that's my charging cycle 30 to 35% remaining then charge
@@jetfighter7497 it depends. I work 12 hr shifts and I stream music and vids constantly throughout the shift and I'm so use to running my Xiaomi phones to 5%, then plugging them in for 20 minutes to get 100% and not having to worry about it anymore 🤷🏿♂️
It looks like a very nice device, although I'm not that fond of pill shaped cutouts, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor would have done for me. And what on earth happened to the sound when you zoomed in on the camera test?
similar thing happened in Ben's Gadget Reviews video as well.
That's it applying an audio zoom using the 3rd mic, the rear camera module mic. It's on by default if you use the zoom with video with no apparent way to disable it.
@@Techtablets it should be easy enough to improve with an update
Great review and keep them going ! Can't wait to get my hands on this beauty. 🤗 But are you shure about the Desktop Mode ? That would be a bummer. I learned to use the Magic 4 Pro's desktop mode from one of your reviews actually if I remember properly. You used the Huawei laptop adapter which I also happen to have and it's just brilliant. Not having it on a newer device would be 😭
Sorry it has desktop mode. I've been just testing the Find X6 Pro and got confused, find X6 pro is clone only. The Magic5 Pro has clone and also desktop mode 1080p
@@Techtablets uhh, thank you man ! You're an absolute gem for answering. That was pretty important for me since I travel a lot and I can use it as a mini PC or even as a TV tuner sort of speak...on older hotel TV's etc. 🙏♥️
What better this honor vs op11 vs s23+???
Great review! Do you know if its possible to set left/right audio balance? This is sometimes an accessibility feature in phones.
Magic OS desktop experience is 🔥
Yes desktop mode is great, but 1080p which it was also 4k30.
No one seems to know how well it would survive a drop test - or what the screen glass is - bit of a downside that it seems to be potentially fragile compared to Victus 2
Been using alot of samsung and iphone. 4 years ago, started to give chinese phones a try and huawei P30 pro was the first one.
Was gutted that they banned google on huawei.
Never looked back on others now and always gave chinese smartphones company a chance. Very interesting as i watch the power shift from those complacent big guys who kept rising phone prices for no apparent reason IMHO.
I supported samsung galaxy when they first launched. The company was hungry. They always gave the best. They were affordable. It isnt the case now.
The future is on the chinese companies.
hi kenny, i have p30 pro too. now looking to upgrade. i read that there is no gsm on huawei but people commenting that it can be downloaded via gbox and gspace. torn between huawei p60 pro and honor magic 5 pro tbh. i want to stay loyal to huawei but honor looks good too. thoughts please?
@@joc7996 I would actually seriously consider Honor magic 5 pro. IM currently using P50 Pro and having no google service is hindering some of my work quite abit.
So like it or not, too many things is linked to google services.
Honor is basically a flagship killer, Samsung ultra and iphone is too expensive IMHO. NOt worth the price pound for pound.
conclusion, i would buy the honor magic 5 pro if i am u. BU then again, its ur money, its ur choice.
The microphone quality seems to be better than most phones in 2024.
Super review! I have one question, what you think about that, is smartphone grab to neck DSLR, head to head?
No DSLR is still better but they are getting close with what they can do with these small sensors
Nice review!
Could you tell is the weight of phone even? I mean does it trying to slip from hands because top part with camera is heavier than bottom part?
No it's heavier towards to bottom of the phone due to the battery I think. With cold hands it's very slippery, I used the case when in Barcelona and it was cold.
Just got one question about the software. Can you a 3rd party launcher? Or is it restricted?
Hi mate. Good & detailed review as always. Love it. I just wanna ask, on the latest Magic UI or even the latest Huawei's HarmonyOS, can we long-press/long-click on any apps icon, then can view options like 'apps information' to do force stop, clear cache etc? If u know what I am trying to ask... 😅
No we can't do that. No apps info shows.
@@Techtablets wow. That's so surprising. I thought even after many years (since I last use Huawei Mate 20 X), the latest & new UI will get this features at least...wonder why Honor/Huawei didn't implemented it up until now...sometimes user need to do that to clear cache, force stop an apps quickly, rather than dive deep down into the apps setting section buried in the menu...
11:23 Btw if you don't want to silent your voice while zooming in like that when recording, just turn off stereo sound recording.
With stereo sound off, there's no problem.
Even iPhone and other phones that can record in stereo have same problem when zooming.
Okay at the time of this video I think it wasn't there that option.
so i still rock a mate 20 pro and still out does new phones! even samsungs i get compliments ALL the time!!!
it works flawlessly! how do you feel it would compare to this older mate 20 pro! debating if its worth the cost to buy a phone if its really no better, i did want the mate 50 pro but since no google its a risk even though i can break it and get it on its still a risky thing incase they do updates and its removed as part of them etc etc, ( no idea on what they do for people whop do this )
It's well worth it, it will remind you of a Huawei phone. The screen, cameras, speed etc are all a step up for you. Mate 50 Pro is a great phone but the Google thing as you say...
I'm in the same position! Had my mate 20 pro for years now, would have loved to upgrade with another Huawei but the lack of google was a deal breaker... Definitely considering this Honor!
@@Techtablets so reading up on honor more they seem to have a back story of lack of support and failure to update safety and software patches! i know its basically the baby phone under huawei as it has always been but i wonder if its watered down too much to replace it in hopes it can cost about the same with google though!
@@sclarke94 its amazing, i still love it and i am so torn as to what to do! this has be the first and ONLY phone i have kept for so long! i had sony's, oneplus ( never again ) and so many before and i was on the fence on this mate 20 pro but my gosh it has blown me away in terms of performance and how it works so much its really made me doubt going to another brand and hating it! I was in this with the oneplus! hated it so much but was stuck in the contract! i will never touch another oneplus ever ever again! useless crashing junk that was!
Same here. Typing this comment from my old 5y old Mate 20 pro. Still working -out of the box- condition, like a new.
I read it had some Performance drops when getting hot.
Did it bother you in your daily usage?
Interesting to see a charger is included in the box. For the Magic 5 Lite in Europe, there is no charger which might explain why they aren't selling so well.
What a great phone. Better than the other brands. Im surprised.
It does have an app draw. Go to settings, go to home screen then click home screen style. Magic os is just emui or harmonyos
I've heard other people saying that the battery performance is absolutely excellent on the magic 5 pro
It is a very good phone. Great all-rounder and excellent battery.

My next phone. I'll slap Nova on it and it'll be perfect.
Good choice.
Do you think this is a good replacement for my Huawei P30 pro? I gotta have something with proper Android.
Yes I do, it's great phone.
Hello Chris. I've watched both your reviews on the 4 Pro and 5 Pro. I'm trying to decide which of the two. Put aside the price difference of nearly 400 euro, is the 5 Pro worth the extra cost? What are your thoughts since you've had a first-hand experience of both?
It is worth the extra I think for the improved camera and screen. And if you plan to keep it for 2 years at least.
@@Techtablets Everybody else has been advising me on the 4. But you've hit a crucial factor and that is, intended ownership duration. My MiMax3 is on its fifth year now and I got it after having watched your review on it. I loved it so your opinion weighs heavily. And I have just had that AHA moment. The 5 Pro it is. Thank you Chris!!!

Hey, do you know how this works in regards to play services ? Not too sure how to navigate around that , nor do I know where exactly to buy it but I definitely want one
Comes with Google play installed no issues like a Samsung.
which is the best phone in your opinion for interior photography?
I wonder if I can make a feature request for yoru future videos? Would it be possible for u to include bluetooth codec support when detailing the specs. So many people praise Samsung yet they don't support many codecs whilst companies like xiaomi, honor and Motorola go out of their way to give almost full support (snapdragon sound on the moto for example).
What is the basic difference between dc dimming and pwm dimming and which is better

Very good phone one of my favorites this year. I rate it over the Xiaomi 13 Pro, Find X6 Pro and Vivo X90 Pro/Pro+.
How’s the ram management?

Are you sure the front-facing camera supports 4K? I've watched/read many reviews and they all said only 1080p..
oh and when you zoomed in in video mode - the microphone also tried to pick up the sounds from the zoomed -in area.. This is the stupidest solution even. I hoped they would change it after Honor Magic 4 Pro. It's pointless.
Rear camera does
100% front camera is 4k
Just bought an Honor phone today. The Hardware is fine but the Menus are not intuitive, The Gestures are clunky and Animations look out of place. In short, this OS looks cheap.
put the navigation with the 3 buttons on the bottom...
What is your advise. Compare to s23 ultra. Is better or s23 ultra is better. Main concern camera. Battery. Charger!
Better video and zoom camera with the S23U and battery is similar on both. Charging time also almsot the same. But if you take a lot of photos and ultrawide shots and macro I prefer the Magic5 Pro for this.
@@Techtabletsthanks so much for your quick response and great help. i most used for outdoor family pictures. Playing areas and gadren.. Etc. And night shoots too. Which better for that
@TechTablets you're living the life in Spain! I just sae the iPhone 15 Pro Max surge into second place on the dxomark smartphone rankings with a score of 154 just behind the Huawei P60 Pro on 156. What puzzles me is that the S23 Ultra only scores 140 which doesn't tally with my experience. The Magic 5 Pro scored 152.
What's your take on dxomark?
My take on them well from my own findings we often do align up. But as for the Apple yeah it's a lot better the 15 Pro Max this time around the camera .The P60 Pro is good yes best low light there is at the moment. Seen my camera comparison of all 3?
@@Techtablets no, I'll take a look!
This or Xiaomi 13 ultra which would you say is better for camera?
Xiaomi supports 2 years updates for up to 5 years I will go with honnor maybe Xiaomi it's better camera but for future honor it's great enough
I am using the honor magic 4 pro. Did honor mention why they lowered the charging speed for magic 5 pro from 100w to 66w?
No mention of why no.
It has a few minuses compared to S23 Ultra:
1) Slow and rare updates;
2) Low resale value, nobody wants to buy it from you
3) Camera capabilities after 10x are really bad.
Other than this, it's a beast phone compared to S23 Ultra.
Can i pull down the notification panel like on any other android or is it still the dumb iPhone copy? 😁
Love the design and 3D unlock.
Pull down there is a clip of it in this video.
No, you can't 😢
Just want a physical quick launch for the camera now like huawei's double click volume down.
Does it also happen to you that when you shake the Honor Magic5 Pro device something sounds inside?
That's the optical image stabilisation. All flagship phones with OIS have a slight rattle.

Does the phone has dc dimming?
Can you post a video of the screen shot with a fast shutterspeed cam?
Yes I talked about it's very high rate 3840hz DC dimming.
Thanks for the video, my brother. I want to ask you. I bought the phone. When I play in Baggy for 2 and a half hours, the battery becomes 38 out of 100, and the temperature reaches 45 degrees. Is it normal or is there a problem with my phone?😢
