Hello Grace... You can use one hook yes. The reason I used two is because the hook I used at the bottom was smaller so it made the top cinch and become tight at the bottom.
Hey Lisette. To get the off shoulder part, yes you measure around your shoulders. That way you will have included the 'arm' in the chest area. Making it wearable as an off shoulder and not a tube top

Hey. You can use any yarn really. What matters is you get the hook size right and your measurements.
What size is your yarn I see you used 2 strands
Its the thin yarn. I used two strands to get it to medium size.
