    Super helpful in understanding the lingo and helpful in deciding what I should buy. I've been procrastinating the purchase of a hifi system simply becuase I don't understand what to look for, what is good for my setup. I've watched many reviews and they all make me want to buy that particular product, but I don't understand what makes it good or moreover, good for my setup. This series of videos has been incredibly helpful in understanding the lingo the reviewers are using and helping me decide what is good for me. Thank you so much British Audiophile!

    Thanks Tarun,
    Great vid. (even if personally I find you gigging to me in the intro a little disconcerting)
    As a 60 year old with a 55 year interest I have experienced the things you refer to.
    Even so I find your delivery and content with its measured scientific approach very nice and interesting to listen to

    I enjoy your videos and I think your opinions are backed up by technical explanations. I really value that. So, I want to ask for your oppinion regarding the Dynaudio sound. I want to buy the new Emit 50 loudspeakers which will be paired with a Yamaha A-S1100 amplifier. From your videos I learned that Dynaudio has a more laid back sound, not so acute, so I think the Yamaha will work well with them.

      in a 12 ft x 12 ft room with 8 ft ceiling, drywall wall/ceiling, and carpet how far away from the wall would you recommend I put monitors such as JBL LSR305?

    Dynamic range seems to be more easily attained (generally speaking)in an efficient speaker. Every 3 db. less of speaker efficiency equates to requiring twice the amplifier power. This gets costly if you need to buy an amp with 4 times the power to attain the same output. So lots of reasons to buy efficient speakers.

    I have two rugs one on top of each other just couple inches wider then the out side edge of your stands and my speakers are just as wide apart and have centre in middle and 4 back channels about a meter apart on sides and a meter behind but rest of floor was laminate. But last week finished rest of the whole room around the room with black carpet tiles and noticed that I enjoy movies even more as sound not bouncing around and movies sound better and deeper must be because less reflections from laminate floor but still need to deal with echo in corners when I do clap test lol.

    Another very informative and interesting video! Congratulations!
    I was wondering... when you talk about early reflections and the 5ms delay (around minute 4 of the video), why the point of consideration in the side wall is the nearest to the speaker and not the middle point in the side wall between the speaker and the listener? Following my intuition (which might be wrong) the sound would travel like a light beam or a billiard ball from the speaker to the side wall in diagonal and bounce at an angle (like light does on a mirror) to the ears of the listener. It seems also weird that in this 5ms delay problem the distance speaker-listener does not play a role in this geometric problem.
    Does sound reflects in all directions when it hits a given point in the wall?
    Thank you!

    • @abritishaudiophile7314
      @abritishaudiophile7314  4 года назад

      Hi mkus, it is the midpoint on the side wall between the tweeter and the listener that is the first point of reflection as you suggest (where you would see the reflection of the tweeter in a mirror). The sound will scatter only if the surface is uneven like a diffuser. On a flat surface most of the mid and high frequency sound will be reflected like a billiard ball. The reflected sound needs to travel an extra 1.7m than the direct sound. Because of the angle of incidence you can have your speakers a little less that 85 cans from the side wall. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

      @@abritishaudiophile7314 Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer! I really appreciate it.
      Sorry to insist, but either I don't understand something or there is an error in the explanation.
      Let's consider this geometry: a listener 3 meters away from the speaker, a speaker 0.85m away from the side wall, the waves traveling in diagonal 1,72m to the side wall mid point between speaker and listener. Speed of sound 340m/s.
      I get a delay at the listener position of around 1,2ms between the direct and the reflected waves. Not 5ms which should be the minimum.
      What do you think?
      Whatever the result, thanks for the clarity in all the videos you do. I learn a lot.

    The electronics of the day available at a consumer level (when electrostats were pig intestines , and goldleaf)
    Didnt really give us the opportunity to chase the better speaker design
    I feel like soon now that the materials and electronics are coming to bear everyone can have great sounding equipment
    Mainly I'm thinking of ribbons , ribbon horns
    Work done by engineers like the guy at nuforce
    And room improvements done by processing
    The 180° projected nature of sound and surface area is going to win out in the end .
    Just like Kellogg and rice knew in the beginning-

    Didn't hear what I expected about tonal balance. How do you define the right one? Is this the one with a flat frequency response?

    • @abritishaudiophile7314
      @abritishaudiophile7314  3 года назад

      One of the ways I check the tonal balance of a system is to play acoustic instruments. Does a sax sound like a sax, a piano have a natural timbre, etc.?

    • @gerrygimno
      @gerrygimno 3 года назад

      @@abritishaudiophile7314 I can agree with this method, but me personally, I listen to some common sounds like breathing - it should be easily recognizable if TB is right. However, the subject is rather complex and opinions may vary. In general, I'd prefer a rather dark TB without accent on HF. In my opinion, exaggerated HF are an evidence of poor, not clean enough power source.
