    Hey NL, at the 23 minute mark you could go for an attack, ticking the transform from 1 to 0. This stops the boss from attacking you, instead making him go defensive mode

    Oh man his second elite fight was even more painful than first. With shell elite you can prepare for first 3 turns, for example disarm and then start next turn with the Bash + attack, it's so much value and looking at how egglord just scrapes off a little bit of Shell's defend and wakes it up... It's too much.

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +1

      He doesn't know, he doesn't play enough off camera (which to be honest he should just record anyway... he can upload and render from any other computer in the house).
      We've ALL got much more experience in the game at this point, and it's going to be magnified by every session. He doesn't play for a few days at a time, while we keep improving. Gotta get those Isaac runs in.
      I haven't watched an Isaac video since before he restarted, that's how incredibly boring I find that to be at this point. Thank god he decided to only post up one video a day.

  • @dragonfire14x

    @Northernlion
    The Guardian boss has a buff that shows how much damage it can take before transforming. This is really useful because when he transforms it interrupts his current attack for the thorns buff. So in your fight with him he needed 1 damage to transform, but instead you played duel wield. He had 9 armour and your strike dealt 10 damage because of your strength. That would of made him transform saving you the 20 damage.
    Also I've noticed that the first thing you do on a turn is try to block damage instead of thinking if you can hit lethal. In one of your first fights in this episode you could of killed the enemy with 3 strikes each dealing 9 damage because the enemy was vulnerable. That would of been enough to kill it, but instead you played 2 defends first then looked at what damage you could do.

  • @SmiteTheJinx
    @SmiteTheJinx 6 лет назад +42

    immediately misses lethal and takes damage on the first fight. Strap in boys, its going to be a long night
    "any time we can make him deal 0 damage...." He says as he misses the ability to make him transition twice, and takes a bunch of damage instead... please....

    • @LouieGrind
      @LouieGrind 6 лет назад +14

      Well, the thing is, he is extremely illogical. He just got the most crazy memory for facts. In this game it shows really well that he can memorize the way a card works in a split second but he can't for the love of me create nor understand good tactics.

    • @ddddoom
      @ddddoom 6 лет назад +3

      That explains it pretty well. Imo he should slow down his gameplay and just think like 5 more seconds before making his plays. As you said it he can memorise and understand how a card works, but plays them in a suboptimal order, for example upgrading a debuff only to apply it to an enemy that resists debuffs, or applying vulnerability after he makes all the attacks on the enemy. I know its easy to spot mistakes when some1 else is playing, but i rly want him to do well and enjoy the game more.

      Eggs usually do egg things. It's a way of life.

    • @Teal_.
      @Teal_. 6 лет назад

      yea though i do wish the cards changed to reflect the damage they are going to do if there is only one enemy left who is vulnerable, i know you can hover over but checking multiple cards later on can get annoying

    • @Andreaskentorp
      @Andreaskentorp 6 лет назад +2

      ATK cards change when you hover over enemies to select them for the attack. Egg just hasn't realized this yet.

    • @mateusz7953
      @mateusz7953 6 лет назад +2

      +Teal Do you? I think that the way it's now is good. Making it change like that would break the consistence.
      It's easier to just remember: the enemy is vulnerable? That's 50(75)% more damage.

    • @zermerschern
      @zermerschern 6 лет назад

      If the enemy you want to hit is vulnerable, you just add 50% to the value of whatever card you're hitting him/her/it with.
      I understand that you're capable of calculating that but even then. How is that annoying ...
      That doesn't even need allocated brain power. It just gets resolved in your head.
      If you're driving around in a car you don't think about shifting, you just do it.
      Same principle here. I don't see the big deal honestly.

      The wounds can be run ending when you're running a build that is dependent on Clash, unlike other curses that can be gotten rid of, while HP increases are easy to come by if you're lucky enough with room's and Feed draw.

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +2

      He's specifically not taking clash anymore after what happened last time. He considers it a low tier card now, because he lost the run by picking mark of pain. Incidentally, he also considers mark of pain low tier for the same course of events.

    • @tymurgubayev4840
      @tymurgubayev4840 6 лет назад +1

      just don't take clash if u have mark of pain. There is even a power for drawing 1 (upgraded: 2) cards whenever u get a wound.

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +3

      He misplays every fight, which I guess is an improvement. Before his last stream game he was misplaying almost every turn, so it's at least showing progress.
      Those plays are going to get him killed on future floors though. Level 2 enemies are almost on par with elites, and level 2 elites are almost on par with the boss fights.
      He's doomed on level 3 with this deck, unless he gets some really good relics and reformulates his deck with a lot of speed. He needs to remove a lot of cards to have a chance, and he really hates doing that.

  • @menpower1
    @menpower1 6 лет назад +19

    NL's deck building abilities have improved greatly! He is picking and upgrade the correct cards now (correct is subjective, but at least he isn't making blatant mistakes).
    However, NL's tactical play, choice of route and relics (every other aspect of play) are still terrible :(

    • @noahbobrow
      @noahbobrow 6 лет назад

      menpower1 yup, I’m actually just gonna stop watching until his next recording session probably at least. I can’t take it anymore

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +2

      menpower1... nope. He passed on Combustion, Body Slam, and made bad upgrade choices still. He also rested when he didn't need to, which I guess falls under the category of tactical play... but the point is while he improved a LOT, going from 0/10 to 3/10 is still just very, very painful to watch.
      Passing on those two cards BTW, while picking up the Cube and Barricade is awful, awful play, especially in regards to deck building. That's just my observations though, and I'm approaching 30 hours in game, so maybe I'm still too new and missing other obvious synergies, but he's hardly improving enough to get excited.
      I think his poor pathing choices are reflective of his desire to buy relics and cards at shops, rather than being able to remove cards. That's a simple one to one, when he learns how key removal is we'll stop seeing him dodge early shops (when he should remove at least two cards on the first floor).

    Is an example of a turn where if you looked at the cards in your draw pile and thought about the likelihood of getting enough strikes, you could play bash and defend knowing you would probably kill next turn. Not that it's necessarily the correct play, but I think you'd looking at your draw pile and predicting potential draws would help you a lot.

      It's a game function. It's like crying about throws in a fighter, or radar in most FPS. I know a guy who plays Overwatch and turns the killfeed off because he thinks that means he's a better player. The reality is he's trash as he's missing valuable information literally everyone else has.
      It's objectively better to have the killfeed, like it's objectively better to check discard/draw.

    Removing Strikes and Defends isn't bold at all. It's what you're supposed to do.
    For the Ironclad, remove Defend first, because you have Perfected Strike and Clash. (and also there is the chance of an event which removes your Strikes anyway)
    For the Silent, remove Strike first, because you have Escape Plan, Fletchettes and Burst.

    During the first boss fight he could have saved so much time if he noticed that the boss takes 40 damage in attack mode and then switches to defense mode, he wouldn't have to worry about some attacks like the first 29 damage attack because it would have switched to defense mode.

  • @anthonyditomaso2191
    @anthonyditomaso2191 6 лет назад +1

    Hey NL I hope you read this at some point, for Ironclad Rampage is a must have everytime, it gets better and better, everytime you see it there is no shame in grabbing it, shrug it off is a strickly better block so grabbing it is almost always good, and combust is so broken it applys that damage every turn and like you said you get HP back all the time so that damage is great, otherwise keep doing what you're doing, a few tips keep up the content

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +1

      Shrug it off, while being a great card, will put you into the large, defensive deck trap.
      It's objectively bad to take something because it's a "slightly better block/strike." you never need to pick up cards because they're a little better than what you have.

    • @anthonyditomaso2191
      @anthonyditomaso2191 6 лет назад +1

      IamI3rian well that's what card removal is for take a shrug it off remove a regular block, NL takes too many cards in general

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +1

      Right, but the thing is, it's not better "enough" than a regular defend.
      He does indeed take way too many cards, I rarely finish a run with more than twenty five or so, but often it's better to remove strikes first and focus on offense, and it's ALWAYS better to grab a relic or two and remove the curses than it is to drop a defend for a "slightly better defend." = )

    • @anthonyditomaso2191
      @anthonyditomaso2191 6 лет назад +1

      Oh yes but we are touching on another bad habit of him having no respect for the mystery spots, so he rarely gets curses, however I pose that we agree to disagree as I see merit in your thought process

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +1

      See, the thing is he learned on the stream that the "?" are always better than regular combat. I'm not at all sure why he's debating internally still. It seems that when he takes any kind of break from the game he loses a huge chunk of knowledge that he gained last time. It's like KSP all over again, only with slightly larger baby steps forward and slightly smaller leaps backwards.

    Here’s a tip. You can stall for two turns to apply any debuffs or buffs and not wake the elite up as long as you deal 8 or less damage.
    Also never use explosion potion or fire potion unless it kills or halves slimes.

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +1

      The gremlins (for example) are also valid uses for the potion, and so is stopping a huge attack from a single enemy. You're not wrong in theory, just in practice.

    • @PongzeLor
      @PongzeLor 6 лет назад

      The gremlins? Sorry I don't know all the enemy names. Also yeah I should've said "stuns an enemy" instead of halving slimes since that is what I had intended. Good call.

      Unfortunately, the wounds can't be removed, since they get added at the start of combat, so they don't exist when you'd be in a position to remove them. You can exhaust them, but NL doesn't have any cards that enable that.

    Egg needs to learn the bosses; mainly that shifting modes and splitting interrupts attacks.
    Also there are like 3/4 playstyles to the Iron Clad that I know of which work:
    1.Super aggro taking hard hitting high value cards whiling maintaining vulnerability
    2.Stacking Strikes and going full berserker on that sheet
    3. Becoming a wall with Entrench and an Upgraded body slam
    4. Burnt branch corruption runs with all the skills (real interesting to see what the game gives you)
    Anything I missed I'm sure you lads will correct me.

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 6 лет назад +1

      There's decent hybrids as well (for example Body Slam is always good, you WILL be blocking, and upgraded it's free damage), there's also the "heal" play, with bloody idol, black blood, Bites etc... and you can use things like combustion and the cube without sacrificing anything in the way of HP.
      A couple upgraded metalicize will allow you to focus completely on offense with your cards, so the "heal" style is also a bit of a hybrid, if you get lucky with cards and relics.
      I had a snecko run recently too, where I traded my starting burning blood for snecko. That's an interesting run in itself, since you don't need to EVER worry about picking up 3 energy cards, since that's the idea. Grab mark of pain and you're off to an easy win most of the time.

      Literally no one said to go faster. He's talking about "slow play" not playing slowly.
      I.E. turtling up and not taking damage, rather than taking some hits to speed up the fight (in turns).

    NL I wont bash on you here for missing lethal or anything but especially on the early levels a few values are interesting to keep in mind.
    3 Strikes on a vulnerable enemy deal 27 damage.
    3 Strikes on a normal target deal 18.
    Keep in mind, that you sometimes dont want any card they offer you. Just skip the card then. It will keep your deck potent.
    I also recommend trying out a "Perfected Strike" build: Skip everything that doesnt give you strength, Energy or is called "Perfected Strike". You will see yourself deal 50 damage instances on the first boss every turn if you can pull that off

    I picked up this game because of you (and Trump - the Hearthstone variety). I gained the Ruby achievement by stacking strength and using *Heavy Blade* . A good strat, it seems, is to grab a few *Strength potions/cards (Power)* then use an *UPGRADED Limit Break* . Give preference card pick to *Headbutt* which will allow you to gain stupid amounts of strength (apparently max = 999) by cycling *Limit Break* ad nauseam. This will allow for a devastating *Heavy Blade* attack (max = 5009). You'll want to pick up *Iron Weave* for defense; *Impervious* and *Barricade* are an especially amazing combo. *Reaper* , if you can get it, will allow you to stay topped off allowing you to be productive at rest sites rather than healing. It goes without saying that any of the aforementioned cards are better upgraded but the only one that is a must for this strat is *Limit Break* ... use it once and it will change your StS experience! Good luck, NL ... wish you the best in future games.

      Aggressive decks are incredibly hard to pull off, borderline impossible.
      You can pull it off with the ironclad with a power boost deck focusing heavy blade limit break and demon/inflame.
      Lucky draws and ice cream aswell obviously.
      You gotta tank through like 2-3 turns and you're set to shred everything in 2 or 3 attacks.
