    • @lamiaprincess6371
      @lamiaprincess6371 7 лет назад +4

      Flying Knee is really good for being like Outmanuveur but actually doing something on your turn. Extra energy is always welcome as the Silent as she's the queen of card draw. So yeah lol.

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 7 лет назад

      Exactly. Outmaneuver combos SO well when they're upgraded, especially in a smaller deck when (with the silent) you can easily play at least one every turn. It also allows those sweet poison synergies (that he also keeps passing on) to take effect more often.
      NL is just really bad at this game. I've played at least four less hours and have several successful runs.

  • @A1phaz0ne
    @A1phaz0ne 7 лет назад +134

    I would have traded all my gold for the +14 max HP.
    That's more durability, that Silent needs. Its also more healing when resting at a bonfire, which Silent needs.
    99 Gold for +14 Max HP is a steal.

    • @elbagon_
      @elbagon_ 7 лет назад +7

      Alphazone definitely think he got the worse possible option there, potions I could understand but really my dawg passed up that hp :’)

    • @Aspartem
      @Aspartem 7 лет назад +3

      The Silent is way more defensive though. I usually heal at max twice in a whole run, when early elites go poorly but otherwise you can often use every last bonfire for upgrades - which are way more important than heals.
      Because as long as a Silent is running you can block basically everything.

  • @ddfb494355
    @ddfb494355 7 лет назад +62

    I ain't an expert, I've won 4 runs but the strategy I like for map pathing is going for the most bonfires possible and being super greedy with upgrades, particularly for the silent to help you mitigate damage.

    • @mateusz7953
      @mateusz7953 7 лет назад +15

      Go to as many ? as you can and upgrade core skills. That's the optimal path.

    • @Aspartem
      @Aspartem 7 лет назад +11

      What? No, remove as many core cards as possible, they're utter garbage for the Silent. Balance your ? & combat depending on what your current deck looks like and focus on one of the archetypes - don't mix & match.
      Either go posion, shivs, discard or the spam-build and pick only cards relevant to the strategy you're going for. At the start i'd recommend poison, because it's the easiest one to build and has the chance to get ridiculously carried by relics (Specimen and Sneck Skull mainly).
      I mean the posion build can one shot the end boss and two-shot the Head also posion ignores the shenanigans of many annoying enemies.

    • @naukgnahz9059
      @naukgnahz9059 7 лет назад +4

      Pathing depends completely on the build you are playing. If you are weak (which you are early on), ? are best.
      If you are a specific combo deck, campfires are best because you will have a small deck of upgraded cards
      If you run a very cycle heavy deck, encounters are best as they give you more chances to pick up more copies of specific cards (offering/bloodletting/seeing red for ironclad, adrenaline etc for silent). You can even pick up strong powers along the way (*cough cough* 3 copies of noxious fumes = gg)

  • @ShadowxBoi
    @ShadowxBoi 7 лет назад +73

    Hey NL, best strat for giant goblin elite is just all out attack, you are never going to outblock his damage because of the buff, so the only viable solution is to kill him before he can do too much. You will always lose HP this fight, it’s impossible not to.

    • @williamedongesiii541

      Most of the time the same advice probably applies for Lagavulin too.

    • @Aspartem
      @Aspartem 7 лет назад +7

      I recalculated his fight with the goblin and with the order the cards were dealt he could only have saved 3 HP (10th floor)
      He squandered another 6 on 11th floor, 12 on the 12th and then died on 13th where he could've taken 0 dmg if played correctly.

    • @Hinocala
      @Hinocala 7 лет назад +3

      You can 100-0 him in 2 turns if you have potions or if you can give him vulnerability and have lucked out on a Strike deck (pulling Perfected strike turn 2).
      But as the Silent I have yet to take less than 20 damage form that Mini-Boss.

  • @32Mali
    @32Mali 7 лет назад +68

    NL I think the biggest problem you have that's causing you to make miss-plays is that you're rushing. Try to spend a few more seconds looking at the information on screen and making sure you're making the correct play/s. It's not a race. :) Overall i think this is a great series for a very cool looking game.

    what I do with the Silent is remove as many strikes as possible (and remove other unnecessary cards), fill my deck with card cycling cards, and stack block/poison cards to take no damage and essentially play the stall game with enemies.
    It's pretty weak on the first floor, but by the second floor (if you make it) the rest of the game is easy.

    • @gigakid3
      @gigakid3 7 лет назад

      you are mixing two deck archetypes. Focusing on one if very important. A pure poison deck with defensive cards is really good. A card cycling deck with like grande finale and those unplayable cards is also really good. As is a shiv deck. Mixing them up is when problems occur

    • @matrixphijr
      @matrixphijr 5 лет назад +2

      Tyler C I disagree with you a bit. I don’t see deck cycling as an archetype, I see it as an inherent mechanic that _every_ deck needs. For big or small decks, it’s important to keep the cards moving and play as many as possible. It’s the same with energy: there’s no reason to *not* have energy gain, whether via relic or card. If a card like Outmaneuver or Adrenaline or Seeing Red comes up, I’m not going to pass it up because “it doesn’t fit my deck.” That’s dumb.
      Now, I will say that deck cycling doesn’t have to include Discard or Exhaust mechanics (though for smaller decks, it’s probably a good idea for removing Status effects). Those are deck styles, in my opinion, and separate from card draw.

    "I don't want to use our potions because I want to save them for the boss"
    NL. PLEASE lose that viewpoint. That's 'Too good to use syndrome' speaking. Potions are NOT meant for being saved for bosses.
    Potions are best used in what ever situation causes you to retain health. They're pseudo-heals in that regard. Such as using a fire potion to kill an enemy that was going to hit you for 19 damage. By killing said enemy with the fire potion, you prevent 19 damage from going through.
    Always, always, always use your potions when the situation for them arises. They are not exclusively for bosses. They should be used to retain as much of your health as possible.

    Hey NL love the series and the game I recently bought it as well and have come across some useful tips: when your weakened or the enemy is vulnerable prior to letting go of the card for targeting the numbers on the card itself (while hovered over an enemy) will display the CORRECT damage numbers this helps out greatly with strategy
    Another tip (I’m not an expert myself so this should is personal Exp)The silent although loves cycle really uses defensive cards in the early game passing up that 2 energy apply 2 weak gain 12 block was a risk for only getting the Draw 1 Dis 1 card Getting cycle is good after solidifying your core deck ^ I’m not the best the silent player so you are free to do as you wish this was just an opinion gained through playing

    Despite not actually managing to win a single run with her yet, I love the Silent, because even though she has a much harder time starting off, she has so much potential for convoluted, overpowered synergies and that shit is my jam. For example that calculated gamble card combined with something (I think it was a relic?) that gives you armour every time you discard a card - suddenly you have the option to reroll your whole hand in exchange for a hefty chunk of free defense. Combine that with a decent set of poison cards and I feel like you'd be basically unstoppable.

    @northernlion since you love free attacks, you should look into a shiv build for the rogue. "Infinite blades" "blade dance" "cloak and dagger" all grant shivs, plus tons of synergy with relics like the shuriken, kunai and ninja scroll aided by the powers "accuracy" and "thousand cuts". I had a run with so much shiv synergy that I was frequently maxing out my hand size due to free shivs that did 10+ each and just playing cards caused 2 damage. Playing entire hand was easy as well thanks to the flower relic and frequent "flying knee" and "doppelganger". 10 cards x2 damage to all + 6+ free shivs each doing 10+ damage each turn plus block from "cloak and dagger", poison cloud, shuriken and kunai stacking strength and dex.... SO much carnage without counting other card plays. Weakness comes in that it takes a lot of card play and some prep. Upgrading all the cards that give shiv increases speed dramatically tho.

    I find the silent easier, manly because unlike ironclad, her cards don't have high cost that often, and her high draw and discard really takes effect , ironclad usually has around 3 to 5 paths, high damage with things like demon form and spot weakness, high defense with barricade or good metalice, exhaus deck which I find amazing but rare to finagle, and self harm decks which are hard to work with, the high draw ones, which use 0 cards often or abuse drop kick , and hibrids I guess, while the silent I feel has less deck types. Like, I remember the poison deck, draw discard decks, "set up decks", high defense...and I don't remember the others, I feel like the versatility of the silent is based on hibrids with the high draw discard, the silent has a really easy time getting this hand type, the ironclad usually has harder time getting high draw without ruining is energy or producing self harm, and the ones who break this are hard to come by ( at least for me), being honest, I have been able to complete the silent way more than the ironclad , unless the time eater comes around and ruins my day, that guy is painfull to fight with silent, only beat him a few times with some strong set up decks and with broken poison decks

  • @shota1023
    @shota1023 7 лет назад

    Remember also not to count out how much less damage you take from a shortened fight. Taking some damage to end a fight a turn earlier will often be better in the long run. Also, I've found that stacking strength or poison has been my most successful runs.

    Ok NL, here's a list of tips that I have for you. Follow the following tips and you should do very well.
    1. Find your archetype. Unlike in BOI, good cards are not necessarily the best cards. Say you're playing as the ironclad, and you have the option between double tap, corruption, and perfected strike. No brainer, right? Pick the gold card? Well, if you're playing a strength-focused deck, maybe with Shuriken/Kunai, then yeah. Sure. But if you already have exhaust synergies, corruption is easily one of the most powerful cards in the game. And if you are playing an attack-only deck, perfected strike can be the best. Finding your archetype is similar to playing MTG. You don't want a tarmogoyf or a snapcaster mage in a burn deck, even though you already have 13 fetches. Its a different thing.
    2. Don't pick cards. Like half the time. Unless you see what I call "seed cards" like bouncing flask, Evolve (which i don't think you've unlocked yet), feel no pain, etc. Some cards should nearly always be taken, no matter the deck. Unless you want the challenge, seeing red, adrenaline, escape plan, and other low cost, cantrip-ey cards are almost always amazing. You have to rank them besides your other options though. But if you see three common cards, or a few uncommons, or even bad golds, just skip that.
    3. Don't be afraid to remove cards. Strike and Defend are great cards, but dagger throw and backflip are better. If the whale asks you if you want to remove a card, jump at it. At the end of the game, decks are almost always reliant on a few powers. Even in an attack-heavy silent deck, After Image, A Thousand Cuts (kinda weak but still), and other on-attack proccing cards are necessary. And while you can upgrade stuff like After Image to have innate, you don't want to be drawing defend when the boss in front of you is hitting you for 7*13 damage. You want to kill it, not spend 1 freaking energy on 5 freaking damage. Bad trade. Also, if you take a Clash or similar card early on and it doesn't work out, don't be afraid to admit your mistake and remove the shit out of it.
    4. Upgrade your shit dude. Always, always, always upgrade. If you're going into a boss and you're at 30% HP, look at what you can upgrade before you rest. I had a recent run rocking high-shiv+After Image+Endless Agony, and I had 21 health before the boss. Instead of healing up to 53 or so, I upgrades After Image to give it innate. Remember, after image gives you one block each time you play a card. My blade dance+s became blocks, and I was able to weather the storm of the boss with ease, taking like 10 damage throughout the fight.
    5. Healing matters a lot. But not that much. Let's face it, if you're not having a good run, 30 more health isn't going to do anything to change that. Digging, toking, or forging may. That being said, if you're about to fight down an elite, rest.
    6. Relics are a girl's best friend. Seriously, a pen nib can turn a mediocre ironclad run into a damage-dealing amazing run with a few strength synergies and one-turn buffs. Snecko skull, Singing bowl, bottled flame (and lightning), tough bandages, shurkien, kunai, calipers, Thread and needle, Unceasing top, all the +1 energy ones (except for runic dome imo), Snecko fucking Eye, Necronomicon, and a whole lot more can single-handedly win you the run. A block-stacking run with calipers is just way better. Sneck skull makes all poison kill way sooner. Necronomicon is a broken relic that should not exist. Hello? Reaper? Yes, you know have max hp whenever you want. Oh gosh, thanks. Prioritize relics in shops if they're good.
    7. Fight elites. Face it. If you can't beat elites, you can't beat the boss. Well, most of the time. Except for book of-oh shit I almost forgot about torii. That's my favorite relic. Damn that destroys book of knives.
    8. The most important of all: Plan. Plan your run throughout the level. Plan your archetype, but be flexible. Give yourself room to grow and change. Plan each turn. Plan each turn after that. If you're playing an Endless agony run, use freaking Calculated Gamble+ as much as possible.
    But above all, have fun!

  • @Jamyantis

    I just had an Ironclad run where I removed a card at the whale and then had 2 ? in a row that let me remove cards as well. By the end I had 11 cards in my deck and I beat the game! It was a very cerebral run, lots of 3-4 minute pauses for decisions within a battle.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but prepared kinda sucks. Let's say you draw 6 cards in your hand and one is prepared. You use it and you get to draw the card you would have originally drawn if prepared didn't exist and then you have to discard down to 5 cards. Essentially prepared just lowers the amount of cards you get per hand. I can only see this being good if you have curses that you would like to discard.

      it depends on your setup. It was infinitely worse than picking up glass knife. But prepared is only good when you got discard synergy.

    • @EviIPaladin
      @EviIPaladin 7 лет назад +1

      Prepared+ is nice if you have a heavy Discard/Curse focused deck but yeah, not a good card in any other circumstances.

    • @darkChozo8
      @darkChozo8 7 лет назад

      Prepared is decent even without discard synergy in the right deck. It lets you customize your hand and draw through the deck quicker, which is nice later in the game when you have synergies and often more cards to play with. It does kinda suck in the early game and in the wrong decks, though.

      Prepared is good for discard and Skill synergy. Its a 0 mana skill card.

    • @Aspartem
      @Aspartem 7 лет назад +1

      Card advantage is not that important in StS, since you're limited to the 3 energy most of the time. Prepared by itself allows you to look for the correct cards, which is way more important since you need specific cards at specific times in this game.
      Within the correct deck the card become utterly disgusting though since discarding is a mechanic heavily supported by the game when playing The Silent. It's a synergy card.
      Edit: Preparation doesn't suck, it's a good card.

    hey NL I'm absolutely horrible with the Silent too but I have managed to defeat the final boss with her, it's so, so, so important to invest in a shitton of defense cards. you seriously need to have more defense cards than attack cards in your deck so you won't have to heal at every camp fire (at least imo!)

      I just beat the game with the silent... about 20 cards... around 7 shields.
      lemme check that real quick
      I was wrong...it's a 29 card deck.(but 10 of those get exhausted)
      with 7 defensive cards
      I had no problem with healing, mostly because I was almost never damaged and could heal using relics+cards when I got hit.
      It was honestly getting quite hilarious when they attacked for 40+ damage and I somehow got above that in shields and did quite some damage aswell

    Cards that grant additional energy are probably some of the best stuff to take on the rogue character.
    Since she(?) draws more cards per turn, unless you're getting a lot of zero energy cards, you'd just be wasting potential.

    Glad to see you being more selective on cards. Biggest takeaway from this episode is to think a little more ahead in combat. Granted you need to learn enemies a little better as you're still newish, but taking a little damage one turn to mitigate a lot of damage the next tends to be worth it. If the enemy is strengthening themselves or weakening you sometimes it's better to take the damage and rush the fight instead of letting the situation develop. Loving the series so far though NL.

    • @austinrosene2357
      @austinrosene2357 7 лет назад

      The Ironclad is just easier to build really. And is much more forgiving to play. If you're having an easier time with the Silent it's because you're building good decks and making good decisions as you play. The Silent is super fun but you can screw yourself if you take just a few of the wrong cards.

    You need to value the Unknown rooms/floors a bit more that a regular combat because they can give you crucial upgrades to cards, health and just overall decent stuff. A regular combat just gets you an extra card and a bit of money but the Unknown can be of great value

    In that last fight, because all the enemies started with vulnerable, you could have killed the 14 health guy with two strikes (or one strike and the quick lash), which would have resulted in only one more damage than your two defend card play, but killed an enemy. Using the poison (which you used anyway), you could have killed both of the 9 attack guys in the first turn and only taken 4 damage, which is less damage than you took playing block cards. Gotta take advantage of the first turn vulnerable!

  • @cathands7202
    @cathands7202 7 лет назад

    Since you asked for some tips and I've been having good success with the Silent.
    Your card selection was better, except that you went poison, which is kinda hit-or-miss and you only want a few of the cards that actually do poison (envenom, fumes). The poison stab is only marginally better than a strike so for all intents and purposes you're just adding Strike+ to your deck without removing the regular strikes already there.
    I was pleasantly surprised to see you upgrade Neutralize too, thats almost always the right pick.
    One thing to keep in mind is that you don't need to upgrade as much as possible, its okay to rest, and sometimes correct to rest just to top off your HP. In any given deck only a few of the spells really need to be upgraded, the core ones that make it tick, it rarely makes a difference if you upgrade random attack/block cards. So try to look at the cards that make the engine of the deck or gain disproportionately from upgrades (pommel strike, choke, most powers, armaments, etc)

    • @cathands7202
      @cathands7202 7 лет назад

      Also, you want to hit as many Elites and ? marks as possible, unless you're about to die. Think of it as your character getting battle-hardened, if you can't beat those then you will have trouble alter anyway. Thats how you start snowballing.

  • @mking199
    @mking199 7 лет назад

    OK, NL, I love ya, but just listen for a bit. Poison and shivs are noob traps. When playing as the silent what's important is energy gain, card draw/discard and block. Whenever you see a card that fits those criteria, especially the energy, you take it. Always take outmaneuver above anything else. If a shop has an outmaneuver and an apotheosis, you take the outmaneuver. This is the key to victory. Unless you get snail in the final floor.

    • @Aspartem
      @Aspartem 7 лет назад

      Poison is not a noob trap. It's probably the easiest deck to win the game as the Silent.

    • @cascadiadb
      @cascadiadb 7 лет назад

      For The Silent, anything without relic synergy is a noob trap. Shivs are great with Strength, Shuriken/Kunai/O.Fan, DEAD STICK. Poison is great with Snecko Skull and energy relics, its probably the easiest to set up. Energy/Discard is fine, but I think is even more dependent on relics. Tough Bandages or Spinning Top are almost required for discard to be more useful than just not discarding stuff. Lots of energy with Predator/Dash is okay but there just aren't massive damage bombs like Heavy Sword and Perfected Strike like there are with Ironclad to make it better than poison.
      Block is great all around, but you can't just draft a bunch of crappy 4-6 point blocks and expect to win. You want a small number of upgraded blocks, or a lot of added Dex, otherwise you just pass turns while bosses who aren't The Awakened gain strength and kill you.

    NL, I highly suggest you to avoid Elite rooms with the Silent unless you've grabbed nice cards or relics right off the bat. I always aim for the route that has the most campfires and least Elites on the road, that also features the most ? rooms, and I have a very good success ratio with the Silent.
    Also, the Silent is very capable of breaking the game with a few cards. She can be an excellent deck manipulator (discard/draw/hold cards), poison stacker, or buff stacker.
