  • 25YEARS AGO,the last tractor built at the David Brown factory at
Meltham Huddersfield, rolled off the production line. The occasion was
filmed on video, by one of the employees, and starts off this film. The
Celebration weekend honours that event, and the LAST TRACTOR joins in
the fun with a stint on the LOAD CAR.

I worked there from 1977 to 1979, in QC lab; Tom (forget his surname) was the department head, Roger Schofield, Kevin G Horne, Michael (forget his surname) who published a pictorial book on British Leyland buses...I am grateful for my first work experience 40+ years ago.

Thanks for sharing the video of the auspicious occasion of the last tractor built at Meltham. Though it was badged in Case IH livery, it was certainly a David Brown.

I can't for the life of me understand why David brown tractors aren't still being made!If their all as good as the ones used around my area I guess it would be hard to sale many new tractors, because honestly these tractors never seem to break down very often at all,the only ones I've seen give trouble is from letting them set out in the rain then if the gearshift levers have broken rubber boots water gets into the hydraulic oil .This is the main cause ,if kept clean and kept out of the weather they seem to last forever .My dad purchased a 990 new in 1965 my brother has the farm now and that old tractor is still going strong !53 years old now!He says its still his go to tractor when the newer ones fail! To bad we don't revive the factory those Brits know how to build engines! If you doubt this look at ww2 the rolls Royce merlin engine turned the american made mustang fighter plane into an in beatable plane!

Sad loss to Meltham when Brown's shut. Most of my family worked there at one time.
Many happy memories of trips and a sneaky shandy at Meltham Hall

They seemed to be rather happy than sad on their last working day.

When you work at a place that's collapsing, with entire departments getting laid off over a number of years, work morale drops.
It's a long time coming and these gents are just all too happy for the final closure and being there to the last.

@@ToreDL87 I can totally understand that. But there is also a video on RUclips of the assembly of the last MF tractor built at the Banner Lane plant and at this video you are able to see how angry the workers were because of the closure of their plant.

@@favorit926vario5 Yeah I saw that (goof around with TEA20's, MF30-35's too), difference is it happened quickly in Coventry it was simply a plant getting shut down with no further innuendos, and production moved elsewhere (France currently), so they would have felt betrayed, and rightly so!
Meanwhile Meltham had it coming for years, mergers with Case etc, nearly the whole company went under.
