Hi there, I really enjoy your channel! Thanks for sharing all your Bookish thoughts, recommendations, and all the great info. I'm new to the Victorian and classics genre and find it exactly as you describe it. It leaves you with something, not easily forgotten. Don't get me wrong sometimes I get roped into a book that hooks me easily, devoured overnight, then quickly forgotten. But there is something about the writing found in classic literature that lingers with different layers. Just LOVE them! Thanks to all you Booktubers that made me want to pick up the first classic. And then those that inspire and excite me to pick up the next, then the next!
Fantastic video! This was fun and you have refreshing and interesting takes on some of these. I also loved what you said about why you read classic literature. I also have a loooong list of places I MUST visit in England, but I have been to Prince Edward Island several times and if you do get the chance to go, you will not be disappointed. It is simply stunning, especially in the summer sun.
This is my favourite tag video ever. Wow! This has inspired me so much! I've found myself veering away from classics for a few years now (I still blame my English lit degree for that lol). But this just lit a fire under me! And now I have SO MANY classics to choose from! Thank you! And thanks for tagging me! I can't wait to do this tag!
Great video! I love talking about classics and can't wait to read wives and daughters now! Also you have made me want to revisit some favorites from my childhood!
A lovely choice of classics indeed! I can totally understand your wish to see UK!! I love to go there...I've been to Whitby, Bath, Haworth (home of the Bronte's), the Lake District. This year my friends and I go to Derbyshire and the Peak District again in May!!! Can't wait.
I adore these videos. And you just mentioned some of my favourite places. I live on the edge of the Peak District so it's really just a short drive and we're in some amazing scenery. I love Bath- I went last October and there's some fabulous book shops there as well as the Jane Austen Centre which is a great little museum that also has a tea room where you can get Austen themed afternoon teas. I could gush some more but I'll spare you. Seriously though, if you're ever over here you want to check that out! Xx
I'm so glad you mentioned a classic where you had to find the right time for it. I've had that happen so many times. One example is I Capture the Castle. Tried to read it twice, it never caught me, but then I read it last year and now it is one of my all time favorites!
I loved your description of The Enchanted April so much that I ordered a copy straight away - hopefully it will arrive in time for me to read it in April! :) (I'm a very seasonal reader). Hearing you talk about all those amazing places in the UK made me feel sad that I didn't think to visit them when I was living in England. I was a teenager back then, but literature was already my number one hobby, especially Jane Eyre, and for some unfathomable reason it never even crossed my mind that I could visit the Bronte Parsonage. I guess I just didn't appreciate what was right in front of me. But if I ever get the opportunity to go there again, I will definitely make better use of my time. :) Hopefully your dream of going there will come true as well!
And thanks for the tag :) I don't have such an extensive knowledge of English classics as you (far from it) - most of the classics I have read were French because we had a very packed curriculum at university, and I didn't enjoy most of them as they were very bleak. However, some of my favourite books are English (or American etc.) classics, so I'm very excited to do this tag.
LOVED your video, and all of your lovely choices! (Especially James Herriot's classics, as I've mentioned here before.) Side note: "You've Got Mail" is one of my fave movies, have watched it so many times, and never get tired of it. (It was actually Joe Fox's young aunt that Kathleen recommended the books to, rather than his niece. But, I know that you actually knew that) :) Joe Fox: "[answering Kathleen's very confused look] Matthew is my father's son, Annabelle is my *grandfather's* daughter. We are... an American family." I do so love every wonderful line of this film. Thanks for all of your great videos, Kate, and this one especially.
I think I told you before, but I read Betsy-Tacy when I was a child, and my daughter has also read them all. Oh! Little House on the Prairie...loved them! Also Little Princess & Secret Garden. 💗 Also liked the coziness of Little Women. It's a feel-good novel to me.
Most those places in England you mentioned are in the north but Bath is further south and west. If you ever visit then get a BritRail ticket so you can enjoy the scenery.
I love Laura Ingalls Wilder, LM Montgomery, and Louisa May Alcott. You are definitely peaking my interest with Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskall. I would love to read Maud Hart Lovelace but it seems her books are hard to find.
I loved The Little House on The Prairie series! Little House In The Big Woods was my favorite book for a long while! I really consider it one of the books that got me into reading! Now, I want to reread the series ❤
I feel the same way about Anna Karenina! I don't think Tolstoy was trying to justify her actions, but rather exploring the flawed thinking that lead her to them.

Even though I haven't been reading many classics myself lately, I could honestly listen to you talk about classics for days! Great answers :)

I didn’t know there were two more books to the All Creatures Great and Small. Definitely going to have to read those.
This is a wonderful video! I loved hearing all of your answers! There are still so many great classics out there for me to read. Thanks for the tag!

Yay! I'm so glad you did this tag, I loved all of your answers. I love the comparison between Russian lit and rich dark chocolate :)

So many classics! I really need to read so more modern classics. And I think you would love Bath very very much :)

I really enjoyed "The Woman in White," so I'm excited for you to read it! It's one that I want to re-read as well!

I love Frankenstein! That's my all time favorite classic!
This is such a good tag!

Just added A Suitable Boy to my Goodreads Want To Read list 🙂
I loved The Little House on The Prairie series! Little House In The Big Woods was my favorite book for a long while! I really consider it one of the books that got me into reading! Now, I want to reread the series ❤
Do you research authors or how do you know so much about periods, authors' lives, background information, etc.? So impressive & interesting.
I feel the same way about Anna Karenina! I don't think Tolstoy was trying to justify her actions, but rather exploring the flawed thinking that lead her to them.
Yay Beatrix Potter fan! :)
