I can attest to the newbie luck, at least in D1. A new co-worker was always talking about Destiny, he had gotten an extra copy somehow and gave it to me so we could play together. Our first session when I knew nothing about the game I had Gjallarhorn dropped. Buddy lost his mind and I was just, "what?" and he explained how rare and coveted it was. A few days later it dropped again as my third ever exotic and he stopped playing with me.
It seemed to be a thing for returning players as well. I stopped playing for a while in D1. When I came back, I got exotic and legendary loot much more frequently
It is a thing. Your chances go up if you haven't played in awhile so that you'll play for a lot longer to get that "good luck" again. It's a psychological trick.
It dropped for me on my very first nightfall. A guy I played with for a year never got it. He quit and to my knowledge never touched the game again. RNG can be just really weird like that in this game.
Another fun thing: The Lord of the Rings / The Silmarillion survived the Collapse, Dark Age, and still exists in our Guardian's time. While investigating Savathun's motives in Season of the Lost, Ikora likens Mara Sov to Feanor; the elf responsible for leading his people into Arda to fight the Dark Lord.

I still think "Lettinggo" is one of- if not the MOST confusing and relevant Red Herrings to this date, especially with just how much from a video predating Destiny has been more or less correct, the Witness like image especially.

@@hsthatzo8063 There's plenty more, like the scrapped story of D1, with the Hive being the main antagonists, Rasputin in an Exo body, and the raid being a Crota/Oryx mega raid, Osiris actually having an actual part in the story, not to mention stuff like the Frogs of Nessus, the cyclops worm thing of Savathûn's throne world, or the leviathan creatures on Titan.
Awesome video man. Quick thing at 21:29 not sure if you know but just didnt mention it, but new adventure also happens at the same time daily reset is (and new lost sectors). So while adventures are gone, the notification is useful.
49:59 There are several similar cases in the Japanese version of Destiny 2. One of them is the "Loaded Question". When it was first released, the name of this weapon was "Oath Tomorrow (オーストゥモロー)". The flavor text is also different, and translates as follows: "It is made entirely of illusions, passions, and wishes that consist of longing, duty, and observance ". The lore is also different. The content is such that Commander Zavala tells us what a Guardian is, based on an episode in which he had just been revived by Ghost. The weapon was later given a suitably translated name, but the lore and flavor text content was not replaced with the correct translation until it was re-released. While some people liked the content of the lore, many criticized it as a shitty poem that an incompetent translator made up as he went along. This text was created using a translation tool. Forgive me if it is unnatural! And thanks for the great video.
Missed the massive community driven Codebreaker event out together by Redditers during the infinite forest labyrinth. I believe it actually broke a record for the largest group of people solving a puzzle
About the character deletion bug - wasn't entirely just karma farming. Aztecross ended up getting the bug and it was basically a weird interface glitch that could bring the character creation instead of your character list. As long you don't proceed with the menu you were safe
I'm pretty certain the Master Ives mystery was a reference to the very first Destiny gameplay reveal at E3 2013. The mission follows the exact same path they took in the showcase, and at the end, the Fallen boss dropped the Thunderlord.
Some interesting info, in the french version of the game, Eramis is called Vigris (pronounced "Veegris") which sounds a bit like Veekris. But she was named like this in french because the name Eramis is too similar to Aramis, a character from Alexandre Dumas' novel "The Three Musketeers" published in 1844. I also love the fact that Eramis and Mithrax fight each other with swords a tiny bit like musketeers with their rapiers (even though they're meant to be pirates, so not the same fighting style, maybe I'm reaching too much).
The Thorn Quest was one of the most fulfilling thing I've ever done in a video game. If I remember correctly, I did it as a Titan using one of the Void LMG - can't remember which one.
Was a hunter. Thorn was my first exotic quest and my first exotic. I was way underleveled and had very few useable legendary items. It was exceedingly difficult and felt amazing to complete.
@@AmeButCool"Nothing to do with Destiny." My brother in light. That one video had more red herrings that aligned with destiny than a horror movie written by college students. Hell! We got the Witnesses silhouette long before we would ever see the man!
Speaking of obscure VAs, Shiro-4’s VA was never revealed anywhere. Today people assume it’s Corey Yee but he was specifically hired to voice Shaw Han and didn’t work with Bungie before. So even, years later we still don’t know who voiced the person that helped to make Outbreak Prime and exotic Khvostov.
I can’t believe more people don’t talk about the original outbreak prime quest when they reminisce. Watching everything unfold in real time is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in gaming.
I've been playing Destiny since 2014. I have NO IDEA how I missed the "Excuse Me." Zavala response in that time, but I did. I just watched it. It was AMAZING and I miss Lance Reddick so much more now. May he forever be remembered for the amazing person he was.
I have two friends who recently started Destiny 2. One of them got Vex Mythoclast on his first ever run of Vault of Glass and my other friend got Conditional Finality on his first run of Root of Nightmares. I've been playing since Destiny 1 and the launch of Destiny 2 and I've NEVER gotten a raid exotic to drop. Not once.
Regarding the character deletion bug, there were several videos discussing ways how people accidentally deleted their characters. One person showed how the many pop ups the game shows new and returning players could cause someone to accidentally delete their character because they just kept spamming buttons to close the pop ups
I'm at 21:30 and just wanted to point out, the new adventure notification isn't some phantom thing. It indicated the eligiblity for legendary lost sectors, and it popped up every time you hit whatever light level you needed to be to unlock whichever difficulty. So if you changed your gear often and went below the threshold, the notification would pop up whenever you put on your high level stuff.
18:13 isn't too unrealistic. There's a revolver called the "Chiappa Rhino" that has the same exact design. Hammer up top, barrel on bottom. IIRC the top hammer sets a hidden bottom hammer when pulled back. The idea for such a design is that all the recoil will go into your palm and your weapon won't lift as much which should keep you on target more often.
Random D1 memory I feel like sharing. I remember just barely scraping by during the House of Wolves DLC, my only legendary was a primary scout rifle. I had just finished the Prison of Elders story mission and was getting ready to open the massive chest at the end. All of the sudden, bam! Hawkmoon dropped! I was so hyped, it was midnight and I was screaming “I got Hawkmoon!!!”. This was huge as Hawkmoon was a very sought after item at the time. I remember feeling super satisfied for the longest time because of that drop.
18:11 There’s a few revolvers that exist that actually DO work like this. The Chiappa Rhino is a good example of a revolver that has the cocking lever is not actually function as the hammer itself BUT it is linked to an internal hammer that actually fires. I would assume that the hand cannons in Destiny work the same way. It puts the force in line with your hand which reduces how much the muzzle flips. Also, in lore… it’s worth noting how plausible these hand cannons could actually be in the Destiny universe, as the engineers of the Golden Age were VERY skilled in their craft. I wouldn’t be surprised that THESE particular designs survived long after The Collapse.
About the helmets and guardians seeing through them. I just imagine it must be something like cars in cyberpunk, where the front windshield is turned opaque or a monitor from the inside when the car is turned on
Way to take me down a nostalgia train. I started playing other games but D1 was always on my mind, something traumatic happened and I was gone for years, just came back this week and I’m HEARTBROKEN to hear about the 10 year game, me and my brother grew up dreaming about
Only thing I didn't notice being mentioned is the pointless Spicy Ramen Ticket and the exotic rifle that only one player received and the reason he was given it was that he was nearly on his death bed trying to recover from 7 brain surgeries, the exotic rifle was called the "Fate of All Fools." What a great video. Brought back so many memories. Also the real world loot destiny placed around the world.
The thing about Oryx's Dreadnaught isn't that hard to understand. They literally copy and pasted most of the code from Destiny 1 when developing Destiny 2. Even bugs from D1 carried over into D2. They basically sold us the same game, at full price, while taking everything away from us that we had earned in the years prior.
That was a very interesting watch. As a Destiny 1 preorder day one player with an in and out relation with Destiny 2 I was very much intrigued to get to the deepest part of the iceberg as I was not even aware to this day of some of the content of the tip of the Iceberg. I still have my Red Ghost figurine that came with the preorder and I vividly remember doing the Thorn exotic quest as a Hunter since it was my very first exotic. The surprise on my face when we got to Ling Ling's head though... Oh boy... I actually still have a physical copy of the Halo 2 special edition DVD in which you got the footage shown at the end. Anyone under the age of 20 watching this is in for a shocker hahaha Overall, very good video, it was fun to watch all the way through. :)
I have listened to The Incredible True Story by Logic a billion times and have played Destiny since its release and had absolutely no idea there was audio from Destiny in there. That is so awesome!
Cool to see some of those tidbits I mentioned on Reddit make it into the deepest depths of this berg, haha. Here, have a few more random/obscure Destiny facts: Back around Shadowkeep's launch I downloaded to my local archives a ton of Destiny concept art from ArtStation and various artists personal blogs and websites, and one thing I noticed is that many files still had their original Metadata attached. Much of Destiny's early concept art seems to have started around 2009 and 2010, some before even the releases of Halo: 3 ODST and Reach. The oldest piece I could find was one of Dorje Bellbrook's works (viewable on ArtStation under the title 'Destiny: Space Epic'), with the creation date of March 16th 2009. The Gambler's dodge animations used by Hunters are the exact same animations Bungie made for the 'Evade' Armour in Halo: reach. With the release of The Final Shape, the Testudo and Chitin Slate Shaders no longer remove the glows from armour. (Booooo!) There is a massive abandoned city a few miles out from the Cosmodrome. It's most easily visible when you're scaling the Colony ship in The Taken King's "Cayde's Stash" Mission, looking out in the direction of where Ghost found us outside the wall. The imagery of Xivu Arath destroying Torobatl in Season of the Witch (visible at approximately 5:08 in Bungie's "Destiny 2 Cutscene Archive: Season of the Witch (Season 22)" video) is a direct homage to a nearly identical scene in the F. W. Murnau's 1926 silent film 'Faust'. The Nerigal Savant III Warlock robes in Destiny 1 were bugged, missing the dynamic lower fabric sections of the coat; making it one of only two Warlock Chest pieces not to cover any part of the legs (the other piece being D1's SRL gear). Great content as always Shadow :)
Had to write a comment about 47:57. I 100% believe the RNG thing is real. I had 2 situations in which I got a “1K” and “Vex Mythclast” on a handful of runs while some of my buddies who play the game more don’t have it to this day. I still feel bad, especially with the Vex Mytho. Got 1K on my second try being carried through Last Wish since I was late to that expansion, someone rage quit when I got it.
A weird little walk down memory lane with some of these, as well as teaching me some new things I didn't know. Also, good job on the Glorbo cover, we need to keep him secret
Spmething cool to mention was thag that the house of wolves DLC was around since vanilla destiny 1, there were some talk and videos about how people glitched through the map in moon and were able to find big rooms that were detailed but empty. These maps turned out to be the missions of the House of wolves DLC when you chase the fallen and teleport into the ship. I was able to glitch into 2 of these rooms myself during the Dark below DLC. The vex looking spire building in Venus that also was apart of HoW DLC you were able to glitch there and better yet, there was a ghost that gave you Grimore lore notification. The building went through a massive redesign when the DLC finally came out.
I always interpereted the darkness zones as areas that we couldn't rez in. Your ghost has to go just outside the darkness zone (the beginning of the encounter) to rez you, and the enemies get to heal in the meantime.
I make music and sometimes, I work with SFX as part of my music. One day, I was perusing a sound website with a library of sounds and came across some sounds that are commonly known as "drones." Whilst reviewing each sound, I came across one that sounded familiar. I later confirmed that the sound was the same drone sound that plays when you first land in the Cosmodrome on patrol. Although Bungie has sound designers that create sounds in-house, I know for a fact they have scoured tons of sound websites to find sounds made by freelancers and third-parties that they incorporate in their game. There's nothing inherently wrong with that either as there were licenses to use the pre-made sounds.
@@ShadowDestiny yes, you did. EDIT scratch that, you didnt you had read what a tweet had said, my mistake. i was watching the video in the background so i had thought you had said it, apologies!
there are still some things about fantasy in destiny 2. If you glitch out of the map using the sparrow out of bounds glitch you can see dragons in the sky. this might be " dragon tavern".
This was actually a very interesting video ngl. Some of these I've heard dozens of times and some completely new. Ling Ling's story was very weird and creepy tho...
I dont see many players jumping off the tower when they reach a new level. But ive made it a point to keep this tradition. I also sometimes jump off after a really hard quest or mission. I do however see a few still dancing around each other, especially when you meet someone at a destination, if you start dancing especially the OG players they will dance to. Im at level 6 so still concider myself a ",newlight" simply because iv not yet finnished a Dlc. Mainly because i get distracted by pvp. Honestly imo this games pvp is the best ive played in a looter shooter game, players seem way more willing to stick together even with no coms, ive noticed sometimes people wait for someone to take the first step then most follow. Every match ive won is totally because of team play, running around just doing your own thing will cost you the match imo, stick together and your a very strong appoinent as a team.
Ling Ling might be the best representation of old, passionate Bungie and new corporate, we want money Bungie. Of course they removed it. Because this studio isn't the same anymore.
So fun fact about Eramis and Veekris, the French dialogues refer to Eramis in beyond light as "Vigris" (which is pronounced "Vee-g-ris") and considering how Misraaks is translated into Mithrax from Eliksni to Common, I think they both are one and the same. It's further confirmed-ish by the fact Vigris is also the name Variks use in the french version for the Prison of Elders one. That, or the french voiceing is absolutely horrendous, take whichever you prefer.
"there may be marathon easter eggs" yes, there are a ton but the most obvious is that marathon is canonically in a parallel universe to destiny and the MIDA multitool and minitool were both brought to the destiny universe from the marathon universe, where MIDA is a major faction. this is confirmed by their lore and has been the case since the multitool became available in 2014
Ling-Ling was known about since Halo: CE. Marathon isn't a new game, it was one of Bungie's first and a big inspiration for Halo and some of it's lore.
1:15:39 I went through all the dates/date-like patterns in destiny 1/2's lore entries a while ago and it's implied that the year 2472 was during humanity's golden age but 3025 is during or slightly after the events of destiny. The writers probably just chose "1000 years in the future" as the game's setting and worked around that.
The thing is with Marathon references in Destiny, we have found several, not based on the new game but references to the original Marathon from the 90's.

@@XxDuckofDoomxXYou didn't just add to the destiny rabbit hole, you are the destiny rabbit hole

There are several similar cases in the Japanese version of Destiny 2.
It’s a tragedy that new players won’t ever experience the Red War campaign and hear the Speaker deliver that epic clap back in game
I am forever saddened about it. Because i never got to it
About the character deletion bug - wasn't entirely just karma farming.
That’s a kinda fascinating idea, you might be right. Although it could also just be a coincidence
Mortimer Zavala is something unofficially canon now, in honor of Lance Reddick
I also did it on Titan. Atheon's Epilogue was my best friend.
Was a hunter. Thorn was my first exotic quest and my first exotic. I was way underleveled and had very few useable legendary items. It was exceedingly difficult and felt amazing to complete.
im convinced the tricorn is the symbol of the exo from the creepy joyuese video that came out 2 years prior to destinys launch
The tricorn was shown before the joyeuse video. The videos also been debunked to have nothing to do with destiny
@@AmeButCool"Nothing to do with Destiny."
My brother in light. That one video had more red herrings that aligned with destiny than a horror movie written by college students.
Hell! We got the Witnesses silhouette long before we would ever see the man!
I can't source this, but I'm pretty sure that I heard that most of the "insider knowledge" used in the arg, was actually public info.
@@johnprice6271 no we dont?????
What if the Tricorn is a reference to Ling Ling’s head? The two corners up top are the ears and…Jesus Christ man
That's wild asf 😭
Brooo that's creepy af
Honestly the Speaker wasnt even lying to Ghaul. Savathun ended up killing herself and was bestowed with the light after.
"How's your sister?" Can you imagine how confusing that must be to new players as your choice of final words with no explanation on the subject? Lol😅
"Illegal and Disturbing"
So much clickbait
Ling-Ling is disturbing
The missing dog head poster is an old old meme but I never thought it’d actually be Bungie’s missing dog head.
The logo appeared way before Destiny was even thought up, iirc it was in Halo, but don't quote me on it
Shadow just had to pick the most disturbing photos to portray Ling Ling
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the scannable master chief easter egg in destiny 1
The vex not being combat units is almost cannon, but Wyverns got added as the first actual combat unit we’ve seen
About the helmets and guardians seeing through them. I just imagine it must be something like cars in cyberpunk, where the front windshield is turned opaque or a monitor from the inside when the car is turned on
Way to take me down a nostalgia train. I started playing other games but D1 was always on my mind, something traumatic happened and I was gone for years, just came back this week and I’m HEARTBROKEN to hear about the 10 year game, me and my brother grew up dreaming about
I came back to find that all my Year 1 stuff is gone.. why did I grind for it? What was the point of the vault
Loooove your channel, especially when you bring back things I’ve forgotten from D1. Keep up your great work, guardian!
I had no idea about the owl sector info and holy hell that’s amazing. Gotta love how Bungie gets the community involved in so many puzzles and pranks.
Anyone under the age of 20 watching this is in for a shocker hahaha
Overall, very good video, it was fun to watch all the way through.
Here, have a few more random/obscure Destiny facts:
Back around Shadowkeep's launch I downloaded to my local archives a ton of Destiny concept art from ArtStation and various artists personal blogs and websites, and one thing I noticed is that many files still had their original Metadata attached.
(Booooo!)
There is a massive abandoned city a few miles out from the Cosmodrome.
Pretty good info and vid. I’m a little Skeptical about the Eramis thing since she was named dropped in year 1 of Destiny 2.
The Wiki mistake was from Variks in Destiny 1, so the wiki thing predates D2 Y1
42:35 im never gonna be able to see the trials memento the same again, all ill think now is artichoke not golden blooming flower
😂😂 SAME
40:20 I actually have a 0 power Trials of Osiris bow
I always interpereted the darkness zones as areas that we couldn't rez in. Your ghost has to go just outside the darkness zone (the beginning of the encounter) to rez you, and the enemies get to heal in the meantime.
Wow, that's a lot of work to create this video. I sat through the whole video and learned a lot after playing since D1. Good job.
Thanks for collecting all the info, this was a great watch!!
I’m a huge Logic fan and I NEVER KNEW he added the destiny super sounds into his song contact!!! This is AWESOME.
The CTRL weapon exam screen is always my favorite thing ever
Rick and Morty also trolled with Glorbo and Glub Glub. "Glub Glub" is a drunk trash phrase that Rick has been saying for 4 years now.
Marathon isnt a new IP.... its an old one they had in the 90's that they are in the process of ruining.
yes, I never said it was new ip
@@ShadowDestiny yes, you did. EDIT scratch that, you didnt you had read what a tweet had said, my mistake. i was watching the video in the background so i had thought you had said it, apologies!
there are still some things about fantasy in destiny 2. If you glitch out of the map using the sparrow out of bounds glitch you can see dragons in the sky.
this might be " dragon tavern".
the fact that the helicopter move has been upgraded to an entire military attack helicopter build makes me lol
That cardboard cutout of "shirtless Shaxx" was literally just The Rock from WWE but with a Shaxx helmet.
I was not expecting to see illegal in an iceberg about Destiny...
You have my attention AND interest... Time to get some food for this journey.
This was actually a very interesting video ngl. Some of these I've heard dozens of times and some completely new. Ling Ling's story was very weird and creepy tho...
Great video! I already knew about Ling Ling but some of that other stuff is crazy.
hELP i’m so scared about the ling ling thing 😭
THANK GOD, I thought I was the only one who messes up saying Rewind Rounds lol.
Kicked it on like a podcast and finished it . That was so good dude.
The Beyond Light event was so cool. I'm so glad I got to be there for that.
Awesome video... I never knew about the fuses in dsc, being an add oob. They used to be a yellow cyclops under the map on mercury.
Ling Ling might be the best representation of old, passionate Bungie and new corporate, we want money Bungie. Of course they removed it. Because this studio isn't the same anymore.
The symbol looks like the characters we play lol its the body and helmet
So fun fact about Eramis and Veekris, the French dialogues refer to Eramis in beyond light as "Vigris" (which is pronounced "Vee-g-ris") and considering how Misraaks is translated into Mithrax from Eliksni to Common, I think they both are one and the same.
It's further confirmed-ish by the fact Vigris is also the name Variks use in the french version for the Prison of Elders one.
That, or the french voiceing is absolutely horrendous, take whichever you prefer.
Actually, Eramis in French is translated to "Vigris" wich is close enough to Veekris, so the english version has 2 shipstealer, but the french has 1
"there may be marathon easter eggs"
yes, there are a ton but the most obvious is that marathon is canonically in a parallel universe to destiny and the MIDA multitool and minitool were both brought to the destiny universe from the marathon universe, where MIDA is a major faction. this is confirmed by their lore and has been the case since the multitool became available in 2014
“Wewind wounds” sent me 😂
Such a fun joke for my clan. I love that this was in the list.
Ling-Ling was known about since Halo: CE.
Marathon isn't a new game, it was one of Bungie's first and a big inspiration for Halo and some of it's lore.
I liked the clip of Professor Broman, met him at PAS EAST a few years ago. Great dude
Loved the video man! Was able to enjoy and end my hectic day watching. Thank you for your efforts and passion.
The Corrupted charging mechanic just needs an on screen tutorial 😅
Fr, blueberries have like 30 iq even after you throw the ball at them generally they just throw it nowhere or a bunch of ads lol
I do miss doing patrols on Venus and stopping by to help a raid party open the gate; then watch them disappear into the vault.
The thing is with Marathon references in Destiny, we have found several, not based on the new game but references to the original Marathon from the 90's.
On the topic of characters not knowing about dragonflies, I'm surprised the confusion around the existence of pineapples isn't mentioned here
That Ling Ling shit got me fucked up. Holy shit, I’m watching this video at 1 in the morning and I’m freaked out about it.
