None of those were high grossing films, in fact Shawshank was actually not rated highly by many people until several years later when it became a cult classic
I love these movie tier videos. I think it would be really cool if you did a video on here about your journey with music, or maybe a history of music, something of the sort. Keep being awesome.
I love movies. I was born in mid 50's and I love a lot of movies. From the 30's up to now. Oh, you're not missing anything by not seeing the movie "The Flintstones." 😊
I also burst out laughing when the guy jumping off the ship struck the propeller in Titanic, but that's mainly because I saw it with a group of friends and the one next to me immediately said "And that's a score of 3 from the Russian judge for that dive"
I'm not much of a movie guy in general, and the movies from the 90s are by far the ones I'm the least acquainted with, but for me, as a kid around those times, Bug's Life, and the Toy Story movies, automatic S tier, not a second thought. As a child, I watched those movies so many times I lost count. I understand why you ranked them as you did based on your explanation, though. And I liked the Phantom Menace as a big Star Wars nerd. So many of the Star Wars movies were better than that one, but for me, I loved it because Ewan McGregor was great as Obi-Wan, and the lightsaber fight scene between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan against Darth Maul was awesome and so memorable
Chris! Gettysburg! Also Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, Silence of the Lambs, L.A. Confidential, Tombstone, Pulp Fiction, The American President, My Cousin Vinny, Miller’s Crossing and Good Will Hunting. Going by box office will get you the summer blockbusters and leave out some of the really best films.
My best tier list ranking King recommendation would be the IMDB top 250 movies of all time list. Even if you haven’t seen a bunch of those, there will likely not be many of the all-time greats that aren’t on there
Chris I have 2 suggestions for ranking videos in the future. Could you make a video ranking the top singers or bands in history? And also the top songs in history? Can I get a heart on my comment? thank you so much.
My stance on die Hard is it is definitely a christmass movie, not because its set on christmas, and it definitely wasn't intended to be one, but a large group of people decided to make it a christmas tradition, ,so yeah I absolutely agree
I wish I knew you in real life. You’re so cool. You’re so good at making all periods of history make sense. I just watched a medieval video of yours, and I hope you do more medieval videos. Even though I am a Michigan fan and you are an Ohio State fan, I feel like we could be friends.
It's always fun watching other people's take on movies. My S-Tier movies from this list would be Terminator 2, Apollo 13, Toy Story, The Matrix and Seven.
The Bodyguard's soundtrack is still the best-selling soundtrack of all time. Which is so surprising. Great soundtrack, but there's been so many good ones.
I will not stand for any James Bond slander. It’s a franchise that has stood the test of time for over 60 years and has given us Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Mission Impossible wishes it’d be able to mix the action with the drama the way the James Bond franchise has been able to. As far as the actors: 1. Roger Moore 2. Timothy Dalton 3. Pierce Brosnan 4. Sean Connery 5. Daniel Craig 6. George Lazenby
Have you seen 'When trumpets fade' it is an American dark film about ww2 that shows a "more realistic view" of the war from the perspective of the soldiers and how horrible war is
My ranking: S Tier - The Fugitive, Seven, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, The Matrix, Speed, Men in Black, Goldeneye, Mrs. Doubtfire, Saving Private Ryan, Apollo 13 A Tier - Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Mummy, American Beauty, Dances with Wolves, True Lies, Forrest Gump, Mission: Impossible, The Sixth Sense, Titanic, The Mask, There’s Something About Mary, Tarzan B Tier - Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, A Bug’s Life, Pocahontas, Ghost C Tier - Independence Day, Robin Hood, Deep Impact, Home Alone 2, Twister D Tier - Armageddon, Batman Forever, The Lost World, Star Wars Episode I F Tier - Godzilla Have not seen in a really long time or ever - The Rock, Pretty Woman, Basic Instinct, Notting Hill, The Bodyguard, The Flintstones
Movie recommendations for myself. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Independence Day, Braveheart, ace Ventura two, the sixth sense, the fugitive, die hard movies
Tombstone, Fried Green Tomatoes, While You Were Sleeping, Maverick, JFK, Jerry Maguire, Death Becomes Her, Last of the Mohicans, Legends of the Fall, Sleepy Hollow, A Time to Kill

Goodfellas I have a letterboxd and keep track of everything I watch and make lists for all the decades. Movies tend to climb and fall down this list but I only included the top 50 I had in this list currently. This list has something like 100 other films below this top 50 (or something crazy). While I enjoy history, film will always be my first love.
Home alone 2 would have been better if it was about kevin and Buzz forming a bond alone in New York, and Buzz reacting to how resourceful and... scary, kevin is at handling the crooks
No, for real though 'propeller guy' re: Titanic was enormously funny. I have no idea how that didn't get cut in the editing bay as it completely deflates an otherwise tragic, bleak very powerful scene
Unlike the 80's where you and I were similarly ranked, this list we are so different. As you said it depends on where each person is at certain times of their lives when they see films (or not see them) that affects the rankings. For me, many of these films I have never seen and no intention of ever seeing them (Seven, Pocahontas, Aladdin, Mission Impossible, Goldeneye, World Is Not Enough, The Bodyguard and Batman Forever) Mrs. Doubtfire I would have as F tier as it is one of the movies I turned off not long into it. Jurassic Park I would also have lower and I won't go into any more as pretty much every movie would have to be re-arranged for me and if I am being honest, of these 50 movies I would probably have NONE of them in S tier.
My goodness... it's almost become a legend how great of the person Keanu Reeves is. EVERYONE and their dog seems to have to voice this opinion. I'm sure he's wonderful but I wonder if it's been a reputation passed back and forth anecdotally on internet and now EVERYONE knows he's just such a great guy. Lol.
I honestly truly recommend watching the flinstones are Tarzan. Both great movies for different reasons. Flinstones is hilarious to me. I love John Goodman as an actor. Tarzan has an incredible soundtrack and tells an amazing story. As for your rankings sad to Jurassic Park so low. My all time favorite movie to this day… but as a kid it was my dream to be a paleontologist because of that movie and ultimately what led to me becoming a history major in college when I kinda outgrew dinosaur fascination, but I never stopped loving that movie.
@@shanefrederick7731or even Jurassic Park which has a classic John Williams soundtrack. Tbh I think the soundtrack and visuals are what make it a classic far more than the plot which is meh
Love Robin Hood Prince of Thieves! I did find it funny that Robin Hood, Men in Tights references Prince of Thieves and the “English accent”. Also, glad I’m not the only one who could not get into the 90’s Bond films. Tombstone is my favorite from the 90’s, but it did not make the top 50 grossing.
I was stationed in England at the time and saw Prince of Thieves in London... Nobody said anything about the accent, but that's not unusual. I agree on Tombstone. Always has been a favorite.
Of course, no one is wrong when it comes to one's taste. Can't say I agree too much. Here is my ranking of these movies. S - All timers Se7en Jurassic Park Terminator 2: Judgment Day The Lion King The Matrix A - Great Dances with Wolves Toy Story Titanic American Beauty Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Speed Aladdin True Lies Home Alone Die Hard with a Vengeance Tarzan Beauty and the Beast B - Good The Sixth Sense Independence Day Forrest Gump Basic Instinct Mission: Impossible Apollo 13 Men in Black The Rock C - Meh The Fugitive Notting Hill The Lost World: Jurassic Park The Mask The World Is Not Enough Twister Armageddon Home Alone 2: Lost in New York A Bug's Life Toy Story 2 Ghost D - Dont hold up Mrs. Doubtfire Pocahontas Pretty Woman The Bodyguard GoldenEye Batman Forever The Flintstones The Mummy Godzilla F - Bad There's Something About Mary Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Deep Impact Tomorrow Never Dies Not seen Saving Private Ryan
I have not watched all of these however I think goodfellas should be in S tier it’s my favorite movie of all time and it’s actually very historical accurate
If I did it: S: T2/ Titanic/ Deep Impact/ Twister/ Matrix/ Forrest Gump/ Jurassic Park A: The Mummy/ Armageddon/ Independence Day/ Robin Hood/ Dances with Wolves/ Die Hard III B: 6th Sense/ Ghost/ Seven/ Home Alone II/ Speed/ Pretty Woman/ MIB/ Something About Mary/ Jurassic Park II/ Beauty and the Beast/ The Fugitive/ Star Wars I/ Golden Eye/ Mission Impossible C: Basic Instinct/ Notting Hill/ MIB II/ True Lies/ Aladdin/ The Rock/ Saving Private Ryan/ Apollo 13/ Bodyguard/ Lion King/ The World is not Enough D: Pocahontas/ Godzilla/ Tomorrow Never Dies/ Batman Forever/ American Beauty/ Tarzan/ The Mask F: Mrs. Doubtfire/ Bug's Life N/A: Flintstones/ Toy Story/ Toy Story II
Remind me never to watch a tier list video from this channel... Toy Story only A tier, Jurassic Park B tier, The Matrix C tier, and American Beauty D tier? These are 4 of the best movies on here.
Your and my rankings would be remarkably similar! I was born in the early 2000s, but my parents raised me on the 80s and 90s media (TV, movies, music). I think the only one I vehemently disagreed with in your ranking was Titanic. I never really got the hype, other than that the movie was a technological marvel, as all James C movies are. As far as romances go, not my jam. One minor squabble was Armageddon and Deep Impact. I like both, as they feel like opposing takes on the same thing, both with their good qualities. DI is a bit slower, but more realistic (as much as any such movie can be), and Armageddon is a bit more campy, but has great humor and action. Either way you go, you can’t lose!
We have remarkably similiar tastes in movies, but I've always loved the Matrix trilogy and would put all 3 movies in S tier. I know that most only thought the first movie was great. Also Something About Mary would be an A for me. Otherwise I love your list!
As a history nerd, not having Forrest Gump in S Tier hurts my soul. LOL good list though. And Titanic is my #1 movie of all time, hands down. It's mostly historically accurate, has the best soundtrack of all time, and the 2nd Best IMAX movie of all time behind Avatar. Was sad to not see "The Hunt for the Red October" on here, that would definitely be S Tier for me. Fun Fact, in my hometown of Portland Oregon, the USS Blueback (One of the submarines used in the film) is permanently stationed at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) and you can tour the entire sub. I will warn you though: Those subs are a lot tighter in real life than the movies make them look! 😆
This is a phenomenal and awesome 90s ranking, Chris. You're awesome:):):):) By the way, Tarzan: Great Disney movie (as a Disney fan myself), but Phil Collins dominates the songs in that movie, especially Youll Be In my Heart.
I was pretty on board with the rankings up until you rated The Matrix C tier. Everything else, if I didn’t agree I could at least see where you were coming from. But that one was wild to me.
Pretty much agree with everything. I use to not like DiCaprio much but as time has gone on i think as far as acting he is a top 10 actor. Absolutely nailed S-tier ill watch all of those if i see them on. Only blasphemous pick imho is the first Matrix movie not being in at least A-tier. Several of these ive watched in the last 10 years and absolutely changed my opinion from my original impression, most notable being 7. Ok the first time I watched then when I watched again bout 5-10 years ago I absolutely loved it.
Since 1990 my movie viewing has been limited. Becoming a father had an impact on leisure time. I haven't seen most of these. Except for its opening scenes Saving Private Ryan is an ordinary movie.
I totally agree with you on Saving Private Ryan the opening on Omaha is great I could watch it over and over again the remainder of the film is eh and is very slow.
Saving private ryan is 2 movies! I agreee but it’s an A. The rest of your list is fine. I can think of many other 90s movies to do though like hunt for the red October and ace Ventura but good
VTH: die hard is a Christmas movie I will die on that hill. FBI dude: so what happened. Other fbi dude: idk but it looks like he….(puts on sunglasses) died hard😎 YEAAAAAAAAAH
I understand your bias for the Mission Impossible franchise compared to the Bond franchise but you mentioned that the MI franchise has been around a long time (30 years) when the Bond franchise has been around for twice that amount of time. I understand that the Bond character has changed hands 4 or 5 times by different actors but, when Tom cruise gets too old and Hollywood wants another MI movie, how would you feel seeing a new, younger Ethan Hunt? As a Bond fan, only 2 of the 90s films are good anyway, Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies.
How did A Few Good Men not make the list? I know why, because YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!! lol What I liked about the movie Ghost is that is had the shadow demons that came and took the bad guys to hell, not that many movies show anything after the after life and I think that scene may have made a few people reconsider their path in life and/or encouraged them to seek forgiveness or talk to God, you know what I am talking about. Have you seen Robin Hood Men in Tights? Awesome movie.
Absolutely based to come out of the gate and be like "Armegadon is fun to watch S tier" we can talk about the qualitys of great storytelling and all that and films with great stories have their place but at the end of yhe day if something is fun, its fun
As a jurassic park fan, as you probably expect, its placement made me mad, and the sequel also made me mad, every jurrasic park film after the first one would be d or f for me. Lost world doesn't follow the second book at all. And is just dumb, None of them after the first one even attempt to capture the real deep message behind in the book and like the first one did, Jurassic park being my favorite book iver ever read
All right, love the tier list so this is not necessarily going to be a critique but rather a my bias/taste vs your bias/taste: That said, bruh, Chris, Armageddon in S and Deep Impact in C? Look, ok, I get the whole action v drama discussion but Deep Impact in C? Even with your reasoning I would have expected at least a B. I'm not saying you should put DI in S or A but at least a B. I also see you about Die Hards 1-3 but Die Hard 2 feel so deep from grace for me when I found out that all the flight operators had to do to save all the aeroplanes was to give them an alternative radio frequency so the planes could be diverted to another airport. So I like DH2 for the action but talk about large plot holes. Apollo 13 is definitely S tier for me. And not just because of the movie but James Horner's score to that film just slaps so hard. Way harder than was necessary. Godzilla's best line: "It's Gojira, you moron!" Batman Forever in D, I get that. At least Batman & Robin isn't on the list. Although I'd probably put that in D because of Chris O'Connell and Alicia Silverstone, and of course Michael Gough as Alfred. Titanic: Ladies and Gentlemen: Mr. James Horner. I have some other things I don't really agree with but overall yeah, solid ranking. Great video as always.
Shawshank, Red October, Goodfellas, Braveheart, Thin Red Line, Heat, Unforgiven etc…? Missing many greats.
None of those were high grossing films, in fact Shawshank was actually not rated highly by many people until several years later when it became a cult classic
He didn’t make the list 💀
Unforgiven is one of my all time favorites so I was disappointed it was not on there. No pulp fiction either
Scent of a Woman is one of my favs
Dances With Wolves and even though I can't stand this movie you have to include Titanic ugh
Not putting the Mummy in S tier?
Scandalous! 😂
Fun fact: Jurassic park was in theaters for the longest of all movies since 1990 at 1.5 years.
Good man putting Titanic and Robin Hood in S tier
Id like to see a tier list on the early 2000s too, LOTR easy S tier
I honestly would say Fellowship and Return of the King are easy S. Two Towers, probaly an A tier.
Being born in 1991, the Lion King is my all time favorite movie
Same. I was born in 1989.
I’m curious where would Tombstone be on the list? One of my favorites ever!
A for me.
I'm your huckleberry
Chris: do you love movies?
Me, a film buff: um, YUS!
More of this would be awesome.
Awesome video!! I loved this
I love these movie tier videos. I think it would be really cool if you did a video on here about your journey with music, or maybe a history of music, something of the sort. Keep being awesome.
An interesting tier list would be ranking songs from the 80s or 90s.
To top of my list for 90s movies are the three Free Willys, Titanic and Jurassic Park.
I love movies. I was born in mid 50's and I love a lot of movies. From the 30's up to now. Oh, you're not missing anything by not seeing the movie "The Flintstones." 😊
You kidding? Loved the Flinstones. Lots of laugh out loud moments. John Goodman knows how to make me laugh.
@@CurtTheRed Yeah... In general I love John Goodman's acting. But that movie was silly and boring to me. Quickly forgotten.
Woof. Some of those rankings really hurt my heart, man.
Fun video. If there's a tier list of 80s movies, would love to see that ranking.
Did that one a few months back.
I also burst out laughing when the guy jumping off the ship struck the propeller in Titanic, but that's mainly because I saw it with a group of friends and the one next to me immediately said "And that's a score of 3 from the Russian judge for that dive"
The silence of the lambsssss

Next you should rank all the Star Wars movies.

The first movie I remember seeing Keanu Reeves is was in english class when we watched Much Ado About Nothing.
Chris!
My cousin Vinny and Tombstone definitely American classics!!
The thing with saving private ryan for me is like... if Im in the mood for that kind of thing I put in my discs of Band of Brothers
The Sandlot, Schindler's List, Reservoir Dogs, Gettysburg, Rounders, a few good men, silence of the lambs, the usual suspects
My best tier list ranking King recommendation would be the IMDB top 250 movies of all time list. Even if you haven’t seen a bunch of those, there will likely not be many of the all-time greats that aren’t on there
Two of my favourite things - Films (which comes with space problems when you collect physical media) & History.
Chris I have 2 suggestions for ranking videos in the future. Could you make a video ranking the top singers or bands in history? And also the top songs in history? Can I get a heart on my comment? thank you so much.

Man putting the Matrix that low is crazy
My husband Craig recommended this channel, and I am subscribed. My husband is correct: Chris manages somehow to mention Ohio every 30 seconds or so
Can you come out with a hoodie that says “welcome back”
The Bodyguard's soundtrack is still the best-selling soundtrack of all time. Which is so surprising. Great soundtrack, but there's been so many good ones.
Yeah. Saturday Night Fever has several songs that blew up. The Bodyguard has just one. It was a monster, but still only one.
Seeing this video on my recommended was a remote-dropper for me
I will not stand for any James Bond slander.
As far as the actors:
1. Roger Moore
2. Timothy Dalton
3. Pierce Brosnan

I have to wonder if you would make a tier below F-Tier for the new Star Wars trilogy based on where you rank The Phantom Menace.
Surprised you ranked SPR as a B. Wades death scene alone makes that movie an A imo. Giovanni Ribisi acting in that movie is insane.

If I did it:
S: T2/ Titanic/ Deep Impact/ Twister/ Matrix/ Forrest Gump/ Jurassic Park
A: The Mummy/ Armageddon/ Independence Day/ Robin Hood/ Dances with Wolves/ Die Hard III
B: 6th Sense/ Ghost/ Seven/ Home Alone II/ Speed/ Pretty Woman/ MIB/ Something About Mary/ Jurassic Park II/ Beauty and the Beast/ The Fugitive/ Star Wars I/ Golden Eye/ Mission Impossible
C: Basic Instinct/ Notting Hill/ MIB II/ True Lies/ Aladdin/ The Rock/ Saving Private Ryan/ Apollo 13/ Bodyguard/ Lion King/ The World is not Enough
D: Pocahontas/ Godzilla/ Tomorrow Never Dies/ Batman Forever/ American Beauty/ Tarzan/ The Mask
F: Mrs. Doubtfire/ Bug's Life
N/A: Flintstones/ Toy Story/ Toy Story II
32:13 to be fair they could have left it out the guy that was ragdolling looked cheesey
I believe dances with wolves is my dads favorite movie
I’m surprised Air Force One wasn’t on this list. Personally, it’s my favorite movie.
Forest Gump not being an S is a surprise to me
We all know cinema reached its peak with Demolition Man
you wouldn't say that about Saving Private Ryan if you were in the military. The realism is beyond reproach.
This is a phenomenal and awesome 90s ranking, Chris. You're awesome:):):):) By the way, Tarzan: Great Disney movie (as a Disney fan myself), but Phil Collins dominates the songs in that movie, especially Youll Be In my Heart.
Chris, I love you and your channel, but putting The Mummy multiple notches above The Matrix is a declaration of war! 😉 😂😂
I was pretty on board with the rankings up until you rated The Matrix C tier. Everything else, if I didn’t agree I could at least see where you were coming from. But that one was wild to me.
The fugitive over Forrest Gump?
I remember the plot of fugitive, but I am sure almost everyone can identify at least 5 phrases from Gump.
I would recommend Ranking super hero films. Not my favorite genre personally but expect people to watch
Independence Day in top 5, YES! i’m only 22 years old, but that movie is definitely easily in my top 5 or 3!
Since 1990 my movie viewing has been limited. Becoming a father had an impact on leisure time. I haven't seen most of these. Except for its opening scenes Saving Private Ryan is an ordinary movie.
The first Home Alone came out in 1990. Is 90 not included in the 90s?
Robin Hood we in theaters past year for my sister 40th.
I totally agree with you on Saving Private Ryan the opening on Omaha is great I could watch it over and over again the remainder of the film is eh and is very slow.
There's great movies of every decade, however personally I find the 1970s and 1990s to be the greatest two decades of film.
I'm surprised Office Space didn't make it
I understand your bias for the Mission Impossible franchise compared to the Bond franchise but you mentioned that the MI franchise has been around a long time (30 years) when the Bond franchise has been around for twice that amount of time.
Easy S tier for A Few Good Men
Some notable 90's films such as Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption and Good fellas were missing. I would rank all three of these as S Tier
They didn’t actually do that well in theaters at the time and that’s why they didn’t make this Top 50 list
I think I liked the soundtrack better than the movie on all the Kevin Costner films
Armaggedon S and Jurassic Park B...ok
Absolutely based to come out of the gate and be like "Armegadon is fun to watch S tier" we can talk about the qualitys of great storytelling and all that and films with great stories have their place but at the end of yhe day if something is fun, its fun
As a jurassic park fan, as you probably expect, its placement made me mad, and the sequel also made me mad, every jurrasic park film after the first one would be d or f for me. Lost world doesn't follow the second book at all. And is just dumb,
None of them after the first one even attempt to capture the real deep message behind in the book and like the first one did, Jurassic park being my favorite book iver ever read
All right, love the tier list so this is not necessarily going to be a critique but rather a my bias/taste vs your bias/taste:
That said, bruh, Chris, Armageddon in S and Deep Impact in C?
Godzilla's best line: "It's Gojira, you moron!"
Batman Forever in D, I get that.
Have you been to Pocahontas' grave? St Stephens Church Gravesend Kent. There's a statue of her.
I'm hoping to get there in a few weeks.
I'd like to fight you in the parking lot over Goldeneye 😂😂😂😂
Twister is S Tier
