SRK doesn't get half the credit he deserves. He never hesitates to explore and experiment but audience doesn't give him his due (Fan, Swades, Dear Zindagi, etc.) and then the same people say "he is the same in every film" MATLAB CHAHTE KYA HO?! The man clearly has it in him & has proved time and again that he can do way more than romantic roles. Really looking forward to his comeback, regardless of the current situation him & his family are going through. He's gonna come out stronger :)

Salman fully embraces his Mass roles and does not care and it works. Aamir until now had success because he fully embraces the character. Srk flip flips between these two. Ra.One and Zero were sincere and dilligent but flawed hence failed...but one just cannot deny the humongous efforts he put into every project to genuinely experiment and change the standard template of feminist biopics or jingoistic patriotic cinema that everyone is dishing out in Hindi cinema these days.

      1. Everyone has his or her own opinion of a good or great actor.. It is a very subjective thing.. The factors that I might look for to adjudge someone as a good actor would definitely be different from yours or for that matter anybody else.
However, SRK is definitely a capable enough actor, but to sustain in a commerce- driven industry that uses his name just like a 'cash cow' he has to definitely do stuff that will make movies "sell" to an audience.
-Yes, times have changed now but remember, Indian audience will take a long time to mature completely.
      - As said in the video, for every misstep of his, you will find gems like Fan and My Name Is Khan that showcase his acting range.
      - Every hugely successful person as also a person who is a rank failure - both remain lonely throughout.
SRK, whose phenomenal rise is a witness to stuff dreams are made of is definitely one among all of us.
There are people who bask in his glory during the good days and later, turn over to another massy star when he is past his prime.

You didn't mention "Dear Zindagi". Even though, he had a very small role in it, the essence of his role made a huge impact in that movie. Shah Rukh played a role which is sort of leading towards a role which provides clarity in life on and off screen. Like in "Chak de India", he played a role of a mentor or someone who teaches you something very valuable in real life too. And "Dear Zindagi" is one of the best work in which a role is written particularly to provide clarity to the lead actor in the movie.
Love your work. Just thought that you should have mentioned "Dear Zindagi" because his work as an actor in that movie was underrated. And you have a platform where lots of people actually value your review because you have a voice which is direct, right, clear and just genuine.

SRK is once in a blue moon kinda guy. The man has seen and endured so much in life that it is beyond conprehension how he has managed to stay sane. Unbelievable. He reads almost anything and everything under the Sun and then when he speaks, he breaks the complex teachings and learnings from his life and all those hundreds and thousands of books he has read, in such an entertaining and easy to understand way that people don't really take him seriously (yeah, that's the irony..ha ha) and are actually doing a disservice to themselves...ha ha. His mind must be sheer brilliance. Look at any of his interviews and talks, man...from any time period of his life and you'll only come out a wiser man.
You may not have liked commercial successes like Chennai Express, HNY or Dilwale but please understand that he HAS to do such movies because he has an entire production house to run. Moreover, he has never tried to establish himself as an art film actor who would only do serious, heavy on script/story films. He has always tried to mix it up. So, you will have him doing a Main Hoon Naa, Swades and Veer Zara in the same year. I think more than the script, SRK must like the core idea of a movie if you have to get a yes out of him. He doesn't bother much about the script and leaves it to quite an extent on the director/writers. For Amir Khan, he designs and spends an extensive amount of time in script and screenplay because he has a keen eye for what works with the Indian audiences. Shah Rukh is more of a 'i trust You with this' kinda guy who would completely submit himself to whatever you ask him to do for the movie....he would give a hundred different takes even if it is for a blink and a miss moment, he would spend crores of rupees for a song ( read Gerua for example) and stuff like this... just so that the movie gets better in some way or the other but the scripting/screenplay is the director's or writer's vision. He also does not really know what would work with indian audiences and what wouldn't....not like Amir. ( Amir's next is a remake of Forest Gump. You can imagine what that guy would have done to the screenplay. It would be an emotional roller coaster and it is bound to become a great hit with indians. But, it is playing safe.thats what he has been doing for last so many years since Ghajini. ) Also, SRK just like other actors, likes playing larger than life characters and why shouldn't you, man? Just look at the how he relishes playing Don and the character is a live wire, all courtesy to SRK. You just can't imagine anyone else as Don (or for that matter any other of his characters as well). Also, it is difficult to pull off a commercial entertainer as an actor. He has said it enough number of times that Chal de, swades, dil se etc...they are easy for him because they are closer to reality. It is difficult to break into a song and dance all of a sudden and make it believable for the audience. So, a commercial movie is much more effort than an acting oriented movie. etc etc. You get the point, right. So, he has to make commercial entertainers. Pathan and Atlee's next are both commercial movies. He needs box office success not to prove anything to anyone but just so that he can make the movies that he wants ( monetary freedom). Moreover, he has said it earlier as well. He makes movies with the hope to bring smiles on as many faces as possible and a movie's box office success is a reflection of the fact that people have liked the movie.
Also, I loved his portrayal of Harry in JHMS. Too bad the movie didn't do well but, that is solely because of Imtiaz's poor script. You can see what happened to Love Aaj Kal 2 as well. SRK as Harry was like SRK's way of saying - 'I own this space'.
It's a matter of time. Domestic box office success will also happen. It may have deserted him but that is only because of the exceptionally high standards/expectations set for a Shah Rukh Khan movie. His last few movies have done well only overseas. People are anyway too quick to judge and write anyone off. Moreover, 95% of the charade against him gets paid and sponsored by the BJP as they desperately try to put Akshay Kumar anywhere and everywhere where India is mentioned. It is a carefully orchestrated agenda of hate against him as he had objectively distanced himself completely from anything that had to do with the govt of the day as he didn't want any political involvement. Anyway, it cannot be dark forever and there will be light soon. Till then, wishing this beautiful human called Shah Rukh Khan the best of health and happiness. God bless you, King!

    1. Hopeless and manipulative in love, yet loveable characters in Kabhi Haan kabhi naa and Yes Boss.
    2. SRK's best performance till date in my book - Frustrated Husband in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and even Chalte Chalte. I don't think anyone can play those grey shades in a human being any better.
    3. And why doesn't anyone mention the cool small time gang leader in Josh.
    4. Over the top news anchor in Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani. Every thing was so over the top yet brilliant. I truly believe that movie was ahead of its time and would have done better if released now.
    5. Lastly, Dil se. Again a movie ahead of its times. His performance in songs like Dil se and satrangi still gives me goosebumps.

He could have chosen a simple path and acted in only masala entertainer movies which work well with Indian audiences but he kept on doing several interesting films like Swades, Fan, Dear Zindagi, Zero. If anyone remembers the AIB podcast with SRK, he jokingly said whatever he does some people would just not appreciate the work and demand more from him, if he does a romantic film, the audience asks for a film like DON, when he goes ahead and make RAEES the same folks would want to see him in a Karan Johar movie. Whatever be the reason it is true that his last few projects haven't worked well in the box office and dented his image of "Badshah of Bollywood" but deep down we all know if there is a single person who can make a stellar comeback at the age of 56, it's SRK. Thank you so much Jammy for making this video! SRK has taken more risks than anyone else since the start of his career. Be it negative roles (Baazigar, Darr, Anjaam), romance (DDLJ, KKHH, DTPH, Veer Zaara), films with a powerful social message (Swades, Chak De, MNIK), commercial entertainers (Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express), the films he chose to produce initially (Asoka, Paheli, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Ra One - all these choices are praised today and were ahead of its time), recent experiments (Fan, Dear Zindagi, Zero) and then there is Dil Se, Devdas, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, Mohabateein, K3G, Kal Ho Na Ho, Don, Don 2. If this list is not variety/experiment/different/range/exploration - I don't know what is!! Needless to say, his other pursuits such as VFX, multiple IPL teams, his speeches at TED and other universities across the world demonstrate the power of sheer hard work. He did all of this on his own. He is love, belief, strength, passion, power, hope, courage, perseverance, resilience - all this and more :) That is why each one of us has an SRK story - whether we have met him or not. It is heartwarming to see how so many people are sharing through posts/videos - what an inspiration this man is and why our love for him has only grown over the years!
