Oh my goodness, I have a great wheel and I thought it was unique. But I have never seen a pendulum great wheel spinning wheel. Wow, that is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing this with the fiber community.
I’d never even heard of this kind of spinning wheel! The coordination you show is so impressive! Not many people could do the different movements all at once that you are doing. I’d love to try this kind of wheel. It’s fascinating. Thank you for this very well done video! And you have a lovely voice for it too!
wow!!! this machine is beautifully complex, yet so very simple... i just made a spinning wheel by flipping my old bike over and swapping the rear wheel for a 36 cm dpn with a sewing machine bobbin on it to hold the drive band... i have a 55:1 spin ratio on that thing!
I just listened to your interview on the Longthread Podcast. Didn’t know what a pendulum wheel looked like so I Googled it. This was the first video to be suggested!
This is the most amazing Spinning Wheel I've seen yet, and I loved watching your expertise and control of it. I think it would take me quite a while to get used to a wheel like this; spinning in this manner. You make It look like it's so easy for you to do. It just flows from you. Thank you for demonstrating the techniques involved.
WOW! I have never seen or heard of this and I grew up spinning AND with antiques. Very cool and very well presented. Thank you for sharing and thank you for restoring this amazing piece of history.
I am beyond impressed by your skill! Thank you so much for sharing this. I've spun on great wheels a LOT, but I've never seen someone using a pendulum wheel. Way cool!
Wow what an amazing wheel and you do look like you have it down pretty good. Little more practice and you'll be zipping right along. Thanks for sharing.
I have heard of these wheels, but it's the first time I have seen one in action. Thank you for repairing, recording and posting it. I could watch this for hours!! (And, now I want one ;) )
I just happened to come across this video and this is the most amazing thing I have ever seen regarding spinning! Spinning cotton seems hard enough, but to see you spinning such a consistent yarn - with such a long draw - seems pure magic to me! You are truly an amazing young woman. Also, the fact that you restored this wheel yourself in impressive as well. Keep up the good work, you have made this old lady's day!
I’m too nervous to experiment when buying a spinning wheel. I need an easy one to start with. This one takes too much Manuel strength for me but love seeing it. Hope you do more spinning videos.
I have seen some pictures of this type of wheel but no idea there were any out there still working. You did a super job of demonstrating and explaining how this works. Thank you for sharing this.
You're a STAR, Heavenly! Thank you very much for demonstrating this kind of wheel. I've only seen pictures, but have never seen one in action. Looks like so much fun!
Yeah, it is very interesting! I shared a tiny bit in the comment section but am considering a follow up video discussing the wheel and the restoration of it.
It was my pleasure. I will have to check out the group! I had no idea there was a spindle wheel group on Facebook. I would love to join in the conversations. 💛
I would love to have one of these, Heavenly! Definitely less exercise than a walking wheel (ha!) and it looks a bit easier to control the various "steps" to produce yarn. Wonderful job you're doing!
I absolutely love it!!!! Would you consider making a longer one? I feel like Id like to watch more repetitions. And I'd love to see some close up's of how the wheel is doing what it does! But Id never even heard of this before and really love the concept! Thank you so much for making and sharing the video!!!!!
Unfortunately, I am without a camera person at the moment. I am considering a follow up video to share more information about the wheel and the restoration work I’ve done to get it working.
I love your wheel. I recently got a walking wheel that needs some work so I haven't started spinning with it, but this looks like it would need less space and you wouldn't spend as much time walking back and forth.
This wheel would require more space due to the swing arm. I like being able to sit and have the singles drawing away. It’s fun! I have a walking wheel, too. They are nice.
Great video. Not only can you spin on it, you're good at it - well done! I have a great wheel and a rio grande wheel but I've never seen a pendulum wheel in operation.
Thanks for sharing. I have often wondered how this wheel worked. I have a great wheel and have really enjoyed using it. Looking at this, I do not see why this wheel would be considered an improvement over the great wheel. In fact, it looks more cumbersome to use. But interesting, none the less. Thanks.
This certainly wouldn't be a wheel for everyone as the necessary coordination would be troublesome for many and even intimidating. It would take most people a lot of time getting used to it. However, if the spinner has/develops good coordination with foot and hand, a great understanding of fiber lengths, and great comfort with long draw, then it would be a lot of fun and quite efficient. It is a matter of a preference as well. I personally like my spinning experience on this pendulum wheel much more than my great wheel, and I have spun on my great wheel much longer. I am having more fun with it, and have only used this 5 times since the restoration and I am hooked.
Fascinating! Do you have a forum to share anymore info on this wheel? Place in history, maker? owner? I would love to know more. Edit * I am a bit slow. I keep forgetting to "show more" under the video. I see the answer to some of my questions and a website. I have subscribed and will search for more info in what you offer. Thank you for sharing.
I heard your interview on The Long Thread Podcast. I loved it! And I was so curious about pendulum spinning wheels so I searched for it on youtube and yours was the first video that came up lol my goodness. How are you drafting with one hand??? And with cotton, no less! 🤯
Where can I find anything about the history of this unusual wheel? My first thought was that it would be perfect for someone who cannot stand or walk for any length of time. I'm fascinated.
This is awesome. I never heard of the pendulum wheel. Is it antique, brand new? It is beautiful 🥰. What other fibers will work? I suppose medium to short fibers? Thank you for the demonstration. 🙏
Beautiful video
Oh my goodness, I have a great wheel and I thought it was unique. But I have never seen a pendulum great wheel spinning wheel. Wow, that is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing this with the fiber community.
How interesting!!
As a spinner I didn't even know this was a thing! I am amazed and so excited to see it in action! Thank you for sharing!
So lovely to find/see a WOC doing this! Much love!
wow... that is awesome! I've never seen a wheel like this. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, I've never seen a pendulum wheel. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome 😊

Just WoW! That looks very complex.
You have the sweetest voice! Thank you for sharing this wheel.

wonderful spinning wheel!!!!! Had never even heard of one before! My husband said "find one, buy it" Woo hoo for me!
Fascinating wheel. I had not seen before either. Thank you for showing us.
Wonderful demo, your voice is so calming with the background music instrumental....
This is amazing 😱
this is so COOL. I've never seen this kind of wheel. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Wow! Creates a long draw! Would love to try one.
What an amazing wheel! I’ve never heard of this type of wheel.
Never seen one of those before. Thank you for posting this video.
Much better than a Walking Wheel...........so unique
I didn’t know this was a thing! I knew about great wheels, but I didn’t know about a great wheel with the pendulum.

That is just amazing!
I have seen one of these, but never in use. What a cunning wheel it is. I can see why you are so excited about it and what can be done with it.
Wow what an amazing wheel and you do look like you have it down pretty good. Little more practice and you'll be zipping right along. Thanks for sharing.
so amazing to see! Thank you for explaining and sharing. I have never seen this style of (Great) Wheel
Wow. That is amazing!!
Thank you!
That is so cool! :)
I had wondered what spinning on a pendulum wheel actually looked like. It looks more ergonomic than other long draw spinning.
I cannot believe what I am seeing...you are AMAZING !!!!!!! Thanks !
Thank you so much!
This is fascinating! I had never seen a pendulum wheel...I could watch this all day! Thank you for posting.
That is an amazing wheel and you make drafting look so easy... I struggle with drafting, well done.
I have heard of these wheels, but it's the first time I have seen one in action. Thank you for repairing, recording and posting it. I could watch this for hours!! (And, now I want one ;) )
Aw thanks! I am glad you enjoy it! I hope you find one. They really are amazing.
I agree, as a spinner I'd never even heard of a wheel like yours! But it's very cool! And of course I want one!!

I'm amazed I still trying to spin equally on a ashford wheel . I applaud you
WILD!!!!!! I’m so impressed!!!!
Brilliant!
Thank you!
Wow, I've not seen this Spinning Wheel before. Excellent instructional video and very educational. Hope you do more.

That’s absolutely stunning! The drafting process is interesting, if that was me, it wouldn’t draft! Hahaha!
Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed this!

As many others have written, I had never heard of a pendulum wheel before. Thank you for the clear video. Do you know the history of the wheel?
It is from Wisconsin made in the 1860s. The patent holder at the time was Justin Wait.
@Heavenly Knitchet thank you. That makes the wheel about 160 years old. May we all last that well.
Amazing!
Thank you!
wow! very interesting. One day i would love more info on how this wheel actually works like does the spindle always spin?
The spindle spins every time I turn the large drive wheel. The only time it slows down is when I 'slightly' reverse the wheel spin for winding on.
@@heavenlyknitchet thanks!

Which kind of traditional spinning wheel is the best for the back, or the most "ergonomic"?
