Handspinning on a Pendulum Spinning Wheel!
Просмотров 13 тыс.3 года назад
Hi everyone! Welcome to this handspinning video. I love working with historic spinning wheels. I have repaired many of them since 2014 before teaching myself how to spin! My new venture in woodworking and woodturning began in November 2020. It has led to the purchase of this wheel... A wheel that had seen better days due to a broken swing arm and no treadle. It was my pleasure to put the work i...
Handspinning on a Spool Spindle
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.4 года назад
Just a quiet, relaxing session of spindling with my spool spindle. After drafting the fibers, they are wound onto the bobbin (not shown in video). This spindle can also be spun suspended or even inside of a bowl. Unfortunately, these spindles are not currently available for purchase. Thanks for watching. 💛
Tour de Fleece Stage 7: Overhand Drafting
Просмотров 2894 года назад
Welcome to Stage 7, Team! We have been doing a tour of techniques while working on a Rambouillet breed study! We are spinning with an overhand draft today. This can be helpful for people who have a hard time spinning with their palm facing upward. The main difference is in the pinch. Instead of pinching with your thumb going towards your index finger. The index finger is doing the pinch towards...
Tour de Fleece Stage 5: Off the Combs Pt 1
Просмотров 2824 года назад
Let’s spin straight from the comb. For part 1, we will be spinning with a short forward draft with the comb resting on the lap. Hands should stay on either side of the comb to avoid possible injuries. If you have flicked the tips prior to washing (and even after), you might be excited to find that your combing time has decrease. I am using Valkyrie fine double row mini combs and they do an amaz...
Tour de Fleece Stage 6: Off the Combs Pt. 2 Pivot and Push Draft Technique
Просмотров 9964 года назад
Welcome to Stage 6 of the tour! Here’s another way to spin off of your comb. I am spinning Rambouillet as part of the tour breed study! Now that you’ve tried spinning short forward with the comb in your lap, you can try spinning with the comb in one hand and spin long draw! I also share my way of fixing slubs with the comb. I call it the “Pivot and Push”. I hope you get it a try sometime. Pleas...
Tour de Fleece Stage 3: Let’s Go Back! Short Backward Draft Modifications
Просмотров 2794 года назад
Hello Team Beauty and the Fleece! Today we are going BACK! Of course, we’re doing it with a twist. Here are two different ways to look at your short backward draft. Time to experiment and see where these drafts will take you! Short backward draft is performed by smoothing the fiber down to make a more worsted yarn. Short backward modified draft is performed by pinching and opening the non-draft...
Tour de Fleece Stage 2: This Way or That Way? Spinning from the Lock
Просмотров 4044 года назад
Good morning Team Beauty and the Fleece! Welcome to Stage 2! Take your fiber and spin it in two different directions and take notes for your findings. In this video, I show how to spin from the lock. I am spinning from the tip end, which is easy to spot with the slight yellow on the tips and easy to spot from the organized bundles from the scouring process. I am using a support spindle to spin ...
Tour de Fleece: Fleece Washing Tips Part 2
Просмотров 5944 года назад
This fleece preparation video is for those who are processing a fleece for the Tour de Fleece. Part two shows unusual low cost options for fleece preparation and a before and after to show how effective each method was. While I do not mention how to wash a fleece in large batches, it can be done that way as well. I personally before small batches for fine breeds. Mesh baskets and plastic contai...

Great flax wheel Very unusual
@@mickeyanderson7754 yes! It is fun to use!
Looks exciting!
@@noblito74 thank you!
Can’t wait!
@@noble2854 thank you!
I’m so impressed with your making the screw threads by hand- I’ve always wondered how antique wheel makers did it! Great work!
Great job!!
@@Hector-i8l thank you!
Love the way that the yarn and the socks turned out!
@@biblioknitting9695 thank you!
Great video! 😊
@@noblito74 thank you!
What a lovely wheel! I actually enjoy technical spinning and benefit from learning this way. There’s very few videos on technical spinning. Most are general and not helpful to achieve a specific goal. I would love to see your process for getting the right twist for singles, the sampling, etc etc and also how you organize your samples
@@73lmargaret thank you for letting me know that you’d be interested in that information. I absolutely love talking about technical spinning and generally save it for a class setting, but I’d love to dive into more through this platform or at least setup a way for people to learn more outside of the classroom settings. I hope there are many more people that feel the same way as you do (on the RUclips platform). I’d love to help!
Really cool!
@@noble2854 thank you! 💛💛💛
Loved the wheel! Looks really cool how the wheels are stacked with the one piece of leather going around both of them. It makes lovely yarn, and your socks are really cute! Thanks!
@@sueking6543 thanks so much!
I enjoyed seeing the wheel in action. And what a lovely pair of socks you made from your yarn! Thanks for sharing. harpingJanet
@@Janet-ov7zx I’m so glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
What an amazing wheel! I’ve never heard of this type of wheel.
It’s amazing to see you make the screw threads by hand. I bet that is nearly a lost art. Well done making this wheel both more beautiful as well as fully functional. harpingJanet
Thank you, Janet!!!
Wonderful project
Thank you!
Wow, I’m so impressed!
Thank you!

Ah so good to see you! I was actually thinking about you earlier with Ig algorithm being mean and not showing me my regular feeds! Will check out restoration vid 😊

I can't count the number of times I have flicked my knuckles. But thanks for the video.😉
So fun!!!
Never seen one of those before. Thank you for posting this video.
I haven’t seen this.
I didn’t know this was a thing! I knew about great wheels, but I didn’t know about a great wheel with the pendulum.
Awesome
Wow. I have seen photos of these wheels but I've never seen one in action.
Oh my goodness!!! What a beautiful wheel!
Thank you!!!
Thank you for teaching!
I just happened to come across this video and this is the most amazing thing I have ever seen regarding spinning! Spinning cotton seems hard enough, but to see you spinning such a consistent yarn - with such a long draw - seems pure magic to me! You are truly an amazing young woman. Also, the fact that you restored this wheel yourself in impressive as well. Keep up the good work, you have made this old lady's day!
Thank you for the comment. I really appreciate it! 💛
In my mind, I realized how much my Afro bulk hair for braids resembles wool. Then, I had the vivid and visual video of the old techniques used in wool processing. So, I’m researching how to most easily prepare my hair. It seems like using a pet brush might be the best. I’m glad your video was suggested. Thanks for shary.
I'm amazed I still trying to spin equally on a ashford wheel . I applaud you
I bought it can still don’t know how to use it two year later😢
I have seen some pictures of this type of wheel but no idea there were any out there still working. You did a super job of demonstrating and explaining how this works. Thank you for sharing this.
I agree, as a spinner I'd never even heard of a wheel like yours! But it's very cool! And of course I want one!!
I've never seen this type of wheel before. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Amazing!
Thank you!
It is so nice to see this up close and slowly. What a perfect rolag! Thank you1 🥰
Of course! 💛💛💛 (and thank you for the compliment)
Love it!
Thank you!
Great Video!
Thanks!
Really cool!
Thank you!
I heard your interview on The Long Thread Podcast. I loved it! And I was so curious about pendulum spinning wheels so I searched for it on youtube and yours was the first video that came up lol my goodness. How are you drafting with one hand??? And with cotton, no less! 🤯
Wow this is a beautiful demonstration Heavenly! Thank you for sharing!!!
Welcome back!!
