Few yrs ago I did my railing using general finish gel stain and loved the results but did not paint the spindles which is off white. You have inspired me to tackle this dreaded job. Thank you for all your tips. You have lovely parents.

I just finished redoing my stairs, too, but I took off the carpet as it was bad. Obviously, I had to stain and polyurethane them. It is a LOT of work. You did a great job.
You did a great job! I would have never thought about about staining that piece of molding around the niche. But it balances out the staircase with that wall.
