It's fascinating to hear about other people who do 'no poo' because everyone's experience is different - that's the crux of it really. Once you stop using shampoo you really get to know your hair because you're forced to listen to it's natural voice. There is no one answer, and you have to figure out what works for you. It's a daunting but ultimately empowering experience. You really have to trust in the process and be with it every step of the way; don't try to achieve non-greasy shampooed-like hair with this, simply get to know your hair's natural states and learn to love them. I've been doing 'no poo' for 2 1/2 years and have learnt so much since then. For example, unlike this video, I don't massage my scalp or run my fingers through it when washing because it really irritates and dries my scalp. However, I have also found that using cold water is by far the best thing for it. I've realised that diet massively affects my hair, and that regularly eating unhealthy foods will make my hair less healthy and more greasy; I've become much more aware of what I put into my body as a result. I've also noticed that my hair goes through cycles of being less oily and more oily - sometimes this is difficult to accept - but I simply work with what ever my hair wants to do at the time. I wouldn't say my hair is like it was when I used shampoo (but that's not the point), it is more oily in general but looks much healthier and is never prone to greasy outbursts on its own. Anyone who is interested should try it because, and I know this sounds like hyperbole, it helped me to get more in touch with my own body and have better self-esteem in the long run. Remember: it's about the process, not the results; learn to let your hair guide you to where it wants to go, and learn to love where it leads you.
I highly appreciate your long statement, thanks! May I ask you how often you wash(ed) your hair with just the cold water? I've began 'No shampoo' about a week ago without any ressource (never watched a vid or something about it, this one is the first). I just wanted to help my scalp and maybe (as a guy) reduce my hair loss. Since then I washed it every day like I used to before, just without the soap. Might it be too much although the first phase is known (and seen by myself on myself) as the greasiest? Thanks in advance!
I really appreciate that you don't say "chemical", you say "artificial". A lot of people who talk about similar subjects seem to forget everything is made of chemicals.
I'm 28 and I quit using shampoo for my hair since nearly 15 years I think (can't remember exactly, lol). One of the best decisions in my life. I have thin blonde hair and I had to wash my hair when I was younger every day because they were so oily. My english teacher mentioned one day randomly that many stars don't wash the hair anymore and they look great after a few weeks. I thought lets try it because mine look oily and worse basically every day. Stronger and much voluminous hair than before. It was than even possible not washing my hair for 2-3 days without looking like a jerk. Will never use shampoo again for my hair.
@@mayss_corner Only water 💦 . I have relatively short hair, athletic and I also don’t sweat much in general. So it’s easy for me to keep everything clean.
I'm 43 and I have used no shampoo for about 24 years lol I have long hair but over the years I've cut it a lot and yeh it's fine 😊 I had greasy hair at school. I wasn't actually concerned about my hair or shampoo but randomly heard Gary Barlow (seriously lol) on the TV say that Take That didn't use shampoo and trust me I'm not a That That fan (although Back For Good is a half decent attempt and their later stuff was not entirely awful) but I distinctly remember hearing Gary Barlow kind of say to me "You dont have to wear shampoo" and I thought "oh I'll try that"
I'm at my 1st week. I hate it but at least the sebum growth stabilised after 4 days. I feel I can do it but I have a beard, dandruff and hard water, I hope I'm not for too hard a ride. I'll deal with the dandruff with pills, once my scalp is used to the new balance.
@@Sxdxez Yes. I think there is no "new balance". My sebum secretion hasn't changed. I'm used to no shampoo now, but I don't like it yet. I'll wait 2 more months before I take the itraconazole and post back if you remind me.
Been trying this for around 3 weeks now. I have a lot of thick hair, so I didn’t really struggle with greasiness as much, but the reason I had started doing this was because I had always hated how greasy my hands would get whenever I ran my fingers through my hair. While it’s not extremely different, I’ve immediately noticed that whenever I pet my hair I feel little to no grease, and I’m gonna keep going to see if I see any more positive results.
Mine went really nice after a couple of weeks, then it got a bit greasy and it's still like that about two months in. It's not too bad as it looks like it's got a bit of wax in it (which I sometimes put in to style it), but I am hoping it improves.
@@softcolly8753I would recommend using texture powder instead of wax, makes it easier for me atleast to wash it afterward and it doesn't look greasy 😄 I also noticed that it dried out my scalp.
One thing I've found diving into this subject is hard and soft water. Hard water is water that contains minerals like magnesium and calcium. These minerals coat your hair when showering and make your hair dry and brittle. They also affect the skin, making it dry and itchy. One way to see if your household has hard water is to check for that crusty scale that builds up on faucets and shower heads. My city, Vegas, has hard water, so I'd probably want to get a showerhead filter.
I haven't used the shampoo for about 6 weeks because I noticed that the shampoo made my scalp constantly itchy and caused severe dandruff, but now it's a little better, the dandruff is still there but not as much as it was before, my scalp is less itchy and overall my hair feels better. I have long hair, and I was worried that this would be a problem before switching to no-shampoo, but it was no problem at all. I must have been very lucky from what was said in the video, but my hair started to look very healthy and clean like it did with shampoo after just a week and I can now wash my hair every 2 days with no problems at all, I have tried washing my hair after different periods of time, once or twice a day or every 3-4 or more days and once every 2 days is the best method for me.
@@OttisR0t head and shiters is literally the worst thing you can put on your head. It made my hairline and the back of my head extremly red and my hair was shedding way more than usual.
I always hated the way my hair looked right after shampooing. Super dry, frizzy and straight. Ofc straight hair is not necessarily bad, but it looks pretty bad when having a layered haircut like a wolfcut and not styling it bc you cant even notice the layers then. Whenever it's a bit more wet or oily it's wavy, almost curly and looks smooth. It's almost like my hair styles itself whenever I don't wash it for a few days so I really wanna try this. No shampoo for 5 days rn, still got 4 days of vacation so ig I will keep trying for a few more days. So far it's pretty oily and itchy, maybe the itchyness also comes from not washing it at all tho. I think I'll just gradually reduce the days until I wash with shampoo and conditioner until I'm at around a month and then just stop using them entirely if it went well. Thanks for the video, helped a lot
I’ve been using no shampoo for only a week so far, and as luck would have it, I am experiencing no signs of excess oil in my hair. It looks and feels completely fine. I have just been using “slightly” warm water and a fine-toothed comb while in the shower. I comb my hair several times from front-to-back, the idea being I’m “combing out” the excess oil. So far it looks completely fine!
Also took me only a week, and it's pretty hot weather here, like 34c 93f. With shampoo, I couldn't go a day without washing or my hair would be extra greasy. Now I can go a few days without washing no problem
@@Trying2study I wash it whenever I take a shower, I do not intentionally avoid washing my hair when I shower. No oils or products used at all. The water is typically warm (not hot), and I just let the water from the shower head run through my hair while I comb it. After all these months my hair is looking very healthy!
@@etchieSketchie thanks for your detailed answer, I appreciate it, I'm just concerned about not using oils because I want to grow my hair long with the Hindi Amla oil.. or any hair length stimulating oils like Rosemary.
I don't think vigorous rubbing with a towel is good for the hair. We need to gently pat it with a towel, comb it with a wide tooth comb, and let it air dry.
I quit using shampoo 4 months ago, and my hairline stopped receeding since then, even grew back I believe. My hair was already curly before, but it became even curlier since then. Also, the color of it is much nicer I believe. It was pretty greasy for about a month or so. I quit using soap also, and my skin is much more elastic, and thicker, and silkier. Also, it healed very quickly from a cut. My pores are a lot smaller. The trick to remove dead skin and dirt from your skin, is to rub your skin with your fingers at an angle with a light pressure at which you can feel resistance. I felt a bit dirty for a pretty long time, but it was worth it I believe.
@@cazh666they put estrogen in that shit… that’s crazy. Water is a natural source bro and soap is good but use an organic block of soap not those bottles of soap which contain estrogen.
In my 20s, I washed my hair EVERY DAY. Now in my 30s, I wash my hair once a week. It's so much stronger and healthier :) Taking vitamins really helps too. I was super low on iron and B vitamins. Now I take a supplement and it helps massively. There is far less hair in my hairbrush and when I wash my hair once a week, it doesn't rip as much when wet.
@FlakyScalp If I'm using minoxidil, because of hair loss, on my hair, they say to wash my hair so the oil doesn't keep the minoxidil from seeping in. What would you suggest I do?

How long did you quit before you notice your scalp start improving? I have really oily hair if I just wait just 24-30 hrs. Do you clean you hair with anything or just cold water every time now? Do you use soap or apply soap on your face though?
Hello , i have a question!! One guy once said using shampoo makes the hair dependent on the shampoo for oils ..so the hair won’t be able to produce all the important oils .. so if i started the no poo is it okay if i use also organic oil for my hair ? Like oregano and other organic oils..im not aure of i did use it wont it affects my hair in not producing it naturally?like can i use aloe vera ? Apple cider vinegar once a while ? Organic oils ?
Please help me, do you know what seborrheic dermatitis is? If so, does stopping shampoo/face wash use remedy the flaking in your opinion? Having bathed and then showered with shampoo my entire life, I remember flaking ever since I was a toddler. In middle school after I started using selenium sulfide shampoo, then I started getting greasiness and flaking on my forehead. I've had to use this selenium sulfide shampoo on my face as well to solve this uncomfortable issue. If I just strictly use water and dry quickly with a towel, would these problems go away in your opinion?
I can't really say that it will for sure but what is there to lose with trying? I think experimenting within the realm of safety is key for finding solutions to these things. I have had a lot of people commenting on my videos throughout the years saying that this helped their psoriasis or seborrhoeic dermatitis. But I can't say if it is a reliable solution for everyone.
@@FlakyScalp I didn't know that about other's experiences. I can't wait for the next 6 months testing this out 😁 after the couple of weeks I've been using your method I can already feel an amazing difference in my hair. Just have to wait for my scalp to catch up! All of the expenses with the shampoo and the stinging chemicals have driven me crazy my whole life. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us dude. You're changing ours for the better as a result.
@@cihandro only a month or so into abstaining from shampoo and conditioner, scalp is still flaky, I'll give it another 5 months but to my understanding the root cause of such a condition is attributed to bacteria/fungus present on the scalp. Therefore I'm not entirely sure about this, but I'm keeping my hopes up. Like he said, what is there to lose with trying? Worst case scenario I don't stop flaking. At least I have some of the best looking/feeling hair I've ever had in my entire life after quitting shampoo. Scalp is irrelevant at this point 🤩
Seborrhoeic dermatitis. The common skin condition that nobody has heard of, and the only skin condition that leaves a horrible, red haze on your face, even after the worst of it has cleared up. It's basically excess sebum. Washing your hair, face, and body every day will do that. Doctors will prescribe you all sorts of shit for it, which won't work because, let face it; every cured patient is one less customer for big pharma. Also, topical medicines tend to make it worse anyway. Stop shampoo. Stop soap. Stay off any meds. Stick to cold water.
I’ve been acouple years on the no shampoo train after see a video awhile back I was able to just quit without my hair getting super oily to start but I wash my hair pretty thoroughly everyday and have no worried about smell or anything it slowed my hair loss way down too. I do still use a bit of hair spray for styling which is still bad. But this is always a weird topic to talk about with people because your first thought is people are gonna think you’re dirty or have poor hygiene
Did you just make the assumption that it didnt smell because you couldnt smell it, or did you actually ask people and they told you it doesnt smell. I dont think my hair smells bad, but i fear its just because i cant really smell my own hair
@@kameruu Id constantly ask my wife or mother whenever I was feeling insecure about it to make sure there was no smell. But there never was I wash my hair good every day with warm/hot water. Still going strong no shampoo
How should I dry my hair if it’s not good to use a blow dryer too much? Because in the Uk it’s cold and drying with a towel won’t make it fully dry, still be damp and it could stink
Love your voice and how you speak. Very soothing! Thanks for the video bro, I’m trying this method right now I’m about 1 week in and really loving the way cold water feels on my scalp. It’s so much nicer than hot water 🥵 😂
Simple no shampoo method, ditch shampoo but scrub/massage your scalp with water as normal. If your hair gets very oily use egg as a shampoo. Using vinegar is too harsh.
You could use natural products or herbs, rosemary absorb the grease, lavender hav a bactericid effect and smells good, sidr can produce foam that helps wash your hair
I've stopped using shampoo for two months now and have followed NoPoo recipe to some extent. I'm noticing that my hair is feeling very sticky these days. I'm not sure why. Am I missing something or is it weather related (humidity etc)? Thanks!
What about washing your face? Should I stop using shampoo on my face too? Since I have a TON of scalp on my face because of seborrhea. My face gets greasy every few hours. I wonder if I should try washing it just with water. Also another question, when I go out my haor usually smells of smoke and that doesn't wash away with just water. What can I do about that?
How many months or years did you noticed any progress when you quit shampoo? It's been 7 months now and I still have dry scalp and big/flaky dandruff. I shave my hair every 2 weeks in number 2 clipper length, If it gets itchy i use a clean comb gently scraping/scratch it off with it(I clean the comb with anti-bacterial soap everyday). What should I do? Do I have to stop shaving it like what you did or did I do something wrong? I am also getting tinea versicolor on my forehead near my hair, did you have it too?
@@lalalalalalalalalala214 i didn't actually go no shampoo, my scalp is obviously different from his and possibly yours too. I only shampoo(Selsun Blue any kind of whatever your needs) at first I used it oncee a day for a week then adjusting it to 3 times a week(3 times a week until now), got better results(lesser dandruff for sure) and also dry your hair after taking a shower to prevent dryness. The tinea versicolor on my forehead is gone, i used head & shoulders original green one by applying pea-sized amount and spreading it on the spot, leave it for 10 minutes max, massage it and rinse. The key is to be patient and learn to listen to your body overall. If symptoms persists, consult a doctor.
I stopped using shampoo a couple months ago after seeing one of your videos. My hair is definitely better off, but I notice a lot of gunky skin buildup on my scalp. Seems like I need to exfoliate a lot more than when I used shampoo. I do have issues with dry scalp and dandruff, but don’t want to irritate my scalp with excessive exfoliating. Any advice?
I live in dry af Colorado and am having dandruff issue since getting rid of shampoo. I’ve been using a leave in conditioner that comes in a spray bottle from the Aussie brand. Can find at Walmart for $7. I split it into 2 bottles and fill in with water to limit oily build up and increase the amount of product. I part my hair in different sections, spray, and comb out the dandruff. Using a washcloth to get the dead skin out of the bristles and continue this process until I feel comfortable going out in public. I haven’t been doing it before I go to bed though so I’m going to try doing daily before I go to bed and when I wake up because my scalp gets itchy when it dries out. I have long hair so I also spray on the ends to tone down frizz
This was super informative. I've tried no shampoo before but with the usual warm water and it didnt really accomplish the goal, never even considered using cold water. It will be a good excuse to finally commit to taking cold showers. Been meaning to do that but ive been a puss about it
quick question, as someone who is gonna start showering everyday do you know if it will affect the hair in any sort of serious way? Like i could change it up to not wetting my hair on some days if that is the case.
if you are having issues with oily hair after stopping shampoo, it's better to only wash your hair when you need to. But in general rinsing your hair through with water everyday is fine and it won't have a major effect. I used to do it.
So who else was waiting in anticipation for him to tell us about the electric scalp massager thing he was holding before finally realising it was a microphone?
Hello, I'm curious about putting a product like styling gel into your hair. I like to wear an undercut, and sometimes when it gets long, I put gel in to hold it up. Have you used any product like that? Would you recommend any?
Sorry but it didn't work for me. I tried it for 2 weeks but the dandruff drive me crazy. The day you wash your hair there's no dandruff but the next day the dandruff that are stuck to your scalp starts to rise up to the surface/tip of your hair. My hair looked ruff and it itches so much. So for it didn't work maybe it works on some not on others. P.S i didn't use anything at all just cold water to rinse my hair. No shampoo, conditioner, gel or Oil after washing my hair, Nothing.
I always wondered when people say they don't wash their hair everyday, does that only refer to shampoo use. Do you still get your hair fully wet everyday? As an active guy I couldn't imagine not washing my hair with just water everyday.
Been about 6 weeks for me. My hair was quite chalky for a while, like the sebum I was producing was thick and dry. Hair texture was similar to when it's full of salt and micro particles from swimming In the sea. My scalp health is about as good as it was when I used coal tar shampoo so at least I'm saving money. Today my hair texture is starting to become more normal hair texture, but I could literally stand it on end before 😂😂
It's called wax, and it really sticks to the hair, and is not easy to get out. Takes a little patience, but there are methods you can use to alleviate this during the transition period
I feel so grossed out by people who don't wash their hair regularly. I mean, I totally get it when you don't want to wash off the natural oils, but how about the dust, pollution, etc.? Those things get stuck on your hair, especially with greasy hair.
If I have a very long hair, will the sculp be able to refill the hair with my natural oils? Or do I have to cut it off to start from scratch? I don't want to (
Hi, I want to ask some serious question. I have a pretty greasy hair and an eczama even tough ı have a thick and curly hair. I've been dealing with this so many years and trying no poo method for like one month. It is still so oily maybe much more and my eczama came back. Should I keep this method or quit? I am so confused and bothered. If there is someone who had shared the same experience with me and find a solution please give me an advice, i really need it.
What about pests and smell because that's my biggest concern once I do no poo but should I keep my short hair or or make it real short to my scalp to begin this transition?
People have cleaned theyr hair and scalp thousands of years before showers and shampoos. You can use other methods than just water. Back then people did not wash their hair (getting your hair wet often is not good for it) even every month but used combing, boar brizzel brushes, powders (like corn stratch) etc. Water washing or shampooing are not the only 2 options, look up historical hair care! I am myself doing the powdering, applecidervinegard, eggwashing (have done ones) and bb brushing, havent shampood my hair in 3 weeks, only once washed it with raw egg and my hair feels and look amazing.
Yes, I agree regarding the historical aspect of hair cleaning. They used wooden combs to distribute the oil (sebum) throughout the hair and as a result, had extremely long, (like to the floor) healthy hair. One thing that I have recently used that absolutely stopped my hair fall (I am in my 70's!) is fenugreek, also called methi in hindi. I just soaked about a tablespoon of the seeds in a cup of water at least overnight, but I soak them longer. Drain, and use the water as part of hair water washing or rinse. I noticed no more hair coming out within the same week. Much better when you have long hair! The fenugreek has many components that really help the hair follicles heal, and also condition the hair. No more frizz.
I eased into less and less shampoo, I already had long hair so perhps its different but after easing into it my scalp and folicles found normality. Started with two, then three, then a week.
depends if you can wash it out properly without, keep in mind that no shampoo isn't for everyone, everyone's head / scalp is different. You can roughly estimate whats best for you by what makes your hair greasy, frizzy, dry, smelly or gives you more dandruff, just trial and error.
@Aidan I've thought about moving to the Philippines. If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for work there and do you need to speak Tagalog fluently?
I don't work here actually, I make a basic income from my RUclips channel and live on that. My backup option is to teach Philosophy at a local university. You definitely don't need to speak Tagalog or any Filipino dialect fluently, although it is useful to speak as much as possible. I speak 0 and get by ok, although when speaking to every day people I do run into trouble with them understanding me.
hey its me again, I commented here a few months back, i have been facing a problem with my hair even after not using shampoo ive been washing my hair almost on a daily basis with cold water in the mornings but still my scalp seems to produce excess cebum and is greasy, when i run my hand through my scalp i get those little nuggets (i dont know the word for that) of grease and its been quite annoying for me, is this normal or am i doing something wrong?
also a a side note, should i get a buzz cut if that helps reduce the greasiness? i feel like there may be acne all over my scalp and it would look weird and unnerving
If you are having massive problems with grease, it could possibly be unrelated to hair care. Diet and hormones for example can affect this. Just something to keep in mind. In terms of the no shampoo, you could try transitioning to it gradually via "low poo." This is where you use a less harsh shampoo that doesn't contain silicones or sulfates when you need to but gradually lower reliance on it. You can find more information about it online
I used to just wring my hair out before getting out of the shower and then rub it vigorously with the towel for 5-10 mins. Then it would just be slightly damp so I would run my fingers through it for a bit whilst doing whatever I'm doing after
For me I need very warm water. My hair is very dry and curly. It allows the sebum to spread to all my hair. I can literally brush with a denman brush to get full coverage. My hair was excessively dry but now it’s normalizing and the curls are relaxing. As I get fuller coverage of sebum my curls relax and is more moisturized.
I have curly hair, so what I do is brush my hair twice a day (morning and night) 100 strokes each time, then I hand scrunge my hair to give it lift and put the curl back in. I use a boars hair brush. During the day I'll run a broad toothed wooden comb through my hair if I'm a bit wind blown, again hand scrunging it to restore waves and curls. I haven't used shampoo or conditioner for almost 5 years, and my hair is mid way down my back. Hope that helps.
Can you run a comb through your hair instead of using your fingers in a cold shower? I know you don't want to be too rough with the comb, but just gently.
Ok guys, I've tried this for a year and through trial and error, I've discovered that if you vary the temperature of the water between hot and cold, after about 5-7x of shwitching between the 2 temperatures, the greasiness totally disappears. This leaves my hair fluffy and easy to style once it dries. You will notice that the hair follicles are squeaky clean and the scalp as well. The only difficulty is getting accustomed to the hot and cold extremes, especially in winter, but finishing my shower with a blast of cold water right at the end leaves my scalp tingly and ready to apply min. Give it a go guys, Ive done this for 1 year religiously and the results are amazing.
@raresjuganaru2380 I have heated water when I shower (about 36 deg) and I switch quickly between room temperature (24 deg) at 3 sec intervals. The differences in temperature seems to loosen the sebum and there's absolutely no need for baking soda or vinegar. I've been doing this everyday for more than a year. I've also done this in winter, where the difference between heated water and room temp water is large. Similar effect.
People would be surprised by the power of simply combing your hair everyday. It distributes the natural oils, and my hair looks better than it ever has.
Hey bro can you talk about the dandruff side of the no shampoo and how long it took for your scalp to clear up. Also (I’ve been on it for 7 days) how can you get around the dandruff problem with the excess sebum. It seems like when you first start, the dandruff likes to stick to the sebum making it difficult to wash out. Thanks man

I am currently on no poo for 10 days. I have a problem, sometimes on holidays I go on hikes, and I climb mountains. Sometimes I go to the beach and the cause of this is that my air has a lot of sand and dirt, not all of it can wash down in the shower with water. What should I do?
I’m definitely gonna try this! I’ve suffered with bad dandruff most of my life and have tried almost everything. I’m desperate! The only question I have is since my hair is naturally curly and prone to get frizzy I think I would have to use some kind of styling product in my hair to define the curls. Question is will the water alone be able to cleanse out product? Some ppl do use a clarifying shampoo every few months to get rid of build up. Either way I’m gonna try this and see how my hair and scalp react to it. The winter is coming so I won’t have to worry much about sweat for the next few months. Thanks so much for the video, I really appreciate it!
I think it is probably possible to wash it out with water alone if you wash very thoroughly, although it likely depends how much you use it, how often, and what the product is like. You could give it a try and see if it works with hair product, although it is better for your hair health to not use it altogether. It just depends how important the appearance side is for you as to whether it is worth doing.
I've been following your channel since I started no poo 6 weeks ago. My hair was greasy at first like I expected, however, about 2 weeks in my scalp has become incredibly dry. It's not the itchy dandruff kind that I've had in the past, instead it's the dry skin small white flakes kind. It doesn't itch, but I'm shedding dandruff everywhere which isn't ideal. I only shower using cold water, and have tapered down to washing it every few days to 1 week (to try to keep as much moisture in it as possible). In desperation, I oiled up my scalp big time (handfuls of olive oil) a few weeks ago to "put as much moisture back into my scalp" - was very surprised when I rinsed it with water and the oily look and feel had gone almost immediately. Having looked online, it feels like I'm the only one suffering with "my hair is not greasy enough" after going no poo! But I know I can't be the only one. Would be grateful for any tips/ideas/insights on what I can do to help the dry scalp. I'm loving no poo so far, but I'd love to get this sorted
I too get the lil white dotted flakes, I haven't gone full no poo yet, I'm using shampoo only twice a week despite washing my hair at least once a day with cold water and no soap of any kind (I'm a very active person which sweats a lot and if I don't shower my hair they get flaky and they obv stink). I don't know why that is, but everytime I get the lil flakes I know it's time to wash them with (very little) shampoo + conditioner which is what I do and the flaking goes away. I hope I can increase the no poo days going on with this thing but I don't know how much it will take
i have the exact same issue, gonna try with cold water first since i didnt think about that hope it works. Also tried pretty much all the dandruff shampoo incase but didnt do anything so i guess im just really dry...
How about with hair products like gel or hair spray? Still fine to use them and then just washing your hair with water like you normally do is sufficient??
I'm no expert but I would say it is fine to keep using them. The whole point of 'no poo' is to maintain a moisturised scalp by not washing away the sebum your body produces and hair products like those you mentioned don't do this.
I had long hair when I was younger, but at some point I developed bad dandruff. I've been running around with a buzzcut for the last year basically as I didn't ever find a reason to change that, though your journey inspired me. Because of a couple other skin problems I use moisturizer cream on my face as well as on my scalp. At some point I won't be able to use that anymore, but in the transitionary time from no hair to short hair, do you think it's fine to continue using moisturizer? My skin feels as if it'll break if I don't use it, but that might also just be a developed dependancy because I use it. I don't know. Anyway, thanks for documenting what you're doing and I hope you read this and answer. Cheers!
He did mention to try it promptly after you shower and to not use a blow drier because the heat could cause dry scalp. Towards the end of the video he tells you how he does it. I just use a normal towel and it comes out fine if that helps.@@bobjones787
I used to do this until I started using Minoxidil. The buildup of this product over the course of a few days really makes it necessary to use shampoo at least once every few days. Dosent look like you would have any experience with this, but still wanted to see if you had any tips. Thanks!
what about shampoo with things like caffeine and biotin for regrowing and fast growing hair for people with hair loss problems? Isn't it more beneficial to use the right shampoo?
Thanks your Video 👍 I have heard many people use banking soda to deal with sebum secretion in the hair in the beginning and use apple cider vinegar to rinse the hair to neutralize it, the hair will become smoother and easier to dry. What do you think about that?
Hi - all you need to do is get a wide toothed wooden comb, and comb your hair (gently, maybe holding it with your other hand at midway up from the bottom so you don't pull a lot of hair out) and the combing through of your hair on a regular basis, from the crown down, will help distribute all that natural oil (sebum) throughout your hair and make it look great. There is another RUclips channel that demonstrates this process. The name of channel is Katherine Sewing.
I've been doing 'no poo' for 2 1/2 years now and live in a soft water area, but make regular visits to my family who live in a hard water area. I would say that hard water generally makes my hair a bit dryer (it seems to wash away more of my natural oils), but never disturbs the natural cycles of my scalp's sebum production. After this long there is hardly anything I can do to make my hair greasy; even sea water has no effect and I go days after swimming in the sea with no real change in my hair oils. The one thing that really messes it up is heavily chlorinated water, but I always make sure to rinse it (without soap obviously) after. There is usually some grease but it goes after a couple of days and I'm back to normal.
no boar bristle brush to allocate the natural oils to the rest of your hair ? or a comb of any kind ? what about soaps ? what kind of body soap do you use? beef tallow any good? do you use deodorant and cologne? those are also filled with chemicals and aluminum carcinogens
I ran into this video 10 months ago. 10 months into no-poo, my hair feels thicker, and fuller. Now I realize how much of a scam the shampoo industry is 😂
This all sounds very promising but what about the smell? I cant seem to wrap my head around the fact that it wont smell as long as you dry it quick enough.
My hair doesn't smell unpleasant or strongly at all. If it did I would definitely not be doing this. Water is perfectly good for washing sweat out of your hair if that's what you're worried about. Remember that shampoo is a recent invention, it's not like everyone just had smelly hair until 100 years ago
I've tried no shampoo for over a year, but having a dirty job being a gardener, not using shampoo ends up with excess accumulation of dust, dirt and plant toxins in my hair and scalp, that doesn't come off with water alone. I washed my hair with shampoo after that year and the runoff was literally black and felt as if a weight had been literally lifted off my shoulders. I believe no shampoo is reserved for those who don't get their hands dirty or do much of anything physical. While I hate the artificial smell of shampoo and conditioner, and the fact they are saturated in plant chemicals and being a carnivore who doesn't consume plants as well as loathing plant based products on my skin, shampoo seems like a nessecary evil.
"shampoo seems like a necessary evil" then you failed the challenge simple as that, dont come back here spreading lies, shampoo is bad for u wether u like it or not
Ion know how y’all do it longest I went without shampooing my hair was 4 days my hair smelled bad like dogs hair I don’t know how you guys do it without your hair stinking ..If I knew how I would ..

yo wtf is that u on ur pfp u look massive
Pathetic
Oof. That's rough. Sounds insanely uncomfortable

Will never use shampoo again for my hair.
so what do you use? instead of shampoo
I wasn't actually concerned about my hair or shampoo but randomly heard Gary Barlow (seriously lol) on the TV say that Take That didn't use shampoo and trust me I'm not a That That fan (although Back For Good is a half decent attempt and their later stuff was not entirely awful) but I distinctly remember hearing Gary Barlow kind of say to me "You dont have to wear shampoo" and I thought "oh I'll try that"
My English teacher was also the first one to mention no poo to me, weird eh

I'm at my 1st week. I hate it but at least the sebum growth stabilised after 4 days. I feel I can do it but I have a beard, dandruff and hard water, I hope I'm not for too hard a ride.
I'll deal with the dandruff with pills, once my scalp is used to the new balance.

I did this for atleast 2 weeks untill my mother told me to use shampoo , I didn't really see any grease when I ran my fingers through my hair.
Dang
I have hard water but haven’t used shampoo in a loong while, and probably won’t. Idk if I care, I don’t know much about it
I haven't used the shampoo for about 6 weeks because I noticed that the shampoo made my scalp constantly itchy and caused severe dandruff, but now it's a little better, the dandruff is still there but not as much as it was before, my scalp is less itchy and overall my hair feels better.

How many times a week do you wash your hair (with only water) and do you use cold or warm or hot water? And do you apply oil to your hair or scalp?
@@Trying2study I wash it whenever I take a shower, I do not intentionally avoid washing my hair when I shower. No oils or products used at all. The water is typically warm (not hot), and I just let the water from the shower head run through my hair while I comb it.

No more frizz.

hey its me again, I commented here a few months back, i have been facing a problem with my hair even after not using shampoo ive been washing my hair almost on a daily basis with cold water in the mornings but still my scalp seems to produce excess cebum and is greasy, when i run my hand through my scalp i get those little nuggets (i dont know the word for that) of grease and its been quite annoying for me, is this normal or am i doing something wrong?
also a a side note, should i get a buzz cut if that helps reduce the greasiness? i feel like there may be acne all over my scalp and it would look weird and unnerving
I am 15 and I haven't used shampoo for last 3 years, everything is perfect
do you have hardwater? do you think it truely plays a role when it comes down to it ?
I haven't used any shampoo for 6 weeks & I have noticed that the balding on the front of my head has started to regrow!
Really??????

If it's not nice and warm outside how would you recommend drying your hair after showering? The only things I have are a towel and a hair-dryer.
I used to just wring my hair out before getting out of the shower and then rub it vigorously with the towel for 5-10 mins. Then it would just be slightly damp so I would run my fingers through it for a bit whilst doing whatever I'm doing after
how do you shave your beard? I have been wet shaving my head since since I was 15 and it would be cool to shave without any soap
Truly genius man, I saved your video. My question is any kind of cap used during outside polluted Area Or road.
Thanks, I've never used a cap like that before.
one question, how often do you comb your hair, if at all, I've heard that combing a lot makes your hair straight
Do you use any product in your hair like gel or something to keep it in shape?
Can you run a comb through your hair instead of using your fingers in a cold shower? I know you don't want to be too rough with the comb, but just gently.
Would it be okay to use electric fan to dry hair as possible?
I quit using shampoo as an experiment for few months. Never had better hair, no dandruff. No conditioner. This is legit.
its the same skin, dont soap your body and hands then
@@PincKen not the same skin, also you get your hands dirty more often than your head. I hope.

Can you detail the method of switching water temperature? I use room temperature water
Thanks man
Still dandruff? 3/4 weeks in and mine is getting worse. And itching. I used baby shampoo last night, gonna use it once in a while.
Update everyone?
I think it is best to not use styling products because they can be harder to wash out but with some more thorough washing it might be fine
Multumesc foarte mult pentru promptitudinea cu care mi-ai raspuns. Apreciez si abia astept sa vad ce rezultatele voi avea si eu.
I am currently on no poo for 10 days. I have a problem, sometimes on holidays I go on hikes, and I climb mountains. Sometimes I go to the beach and the cause of this is that my air has a lot of sand and dirt, not all of it can wash down in the shower with water. What should I do?
Use shampoo , literally this no poo is for people with no physical activity lifestyle .

I dont recommend it for oily scalp
it's been about a month now. Any update for us beginners?
It may be related to your diet as your not eating food necessary for oil production I dont know though I am not a doctor
Sameee, I’ve also started no poo but my hair becomes dry
How about with hair products like gel or hair spray? Still fine to use them and then just washing your hair with water like you normally do is sufficient??
I'm no expert but I would say it is fine to keep using them. The whole point of 'no poo' is to maintain a moisturised scalp by not washing away the sebum your body produces and hair products like those you mentioned don't do this.
Wow, you're one of the reason why I stopped using shampoo. Didn't know you're here in PH.
Any tips for dry scalp? I don't have dandruff but my scalp can get dry and I get the small white flakes.
Cheers!
It will be fine to use it during the transition phase but you might have issues with dry scalp once you stop.
you didnt tell us how to dry it. do we use a towel @@FlakyScalp
He did mention to try it promptly after you shower and to not use a blow drier because the heat could cause dry scalp. Towards the end of the video he tells you how he does it. I just use a normal towel and it comes out fine if that helps.@@bobjones787

what if I dirty my hair in the pool or some food step on my head, is water enough to clean all of that?
I used to do this until I started using Minoxidil. The buildup of this product over the course of a few days really makes it necessary to use shampoo at least once every few days. Dosent look like you would have any experience with this, but still wanted to see if you had any tips.
Thanks!
Does no shampo helps with aga??
shampoo makes it worse
what about shampoo with things like caffeine and biotin for regrowing and fast growing hair for people with hair loss problems? Isn't it more beneficial to use the right shampoo?
do you use any products to style your hair or you just let it go?
Hey man
How did you fix your scalp back then? my scalp is kinda similar to your scalp 7 years ago
Thanks your Video 👍
I have heard many people use banking soda to deal with sebum secretion in the hair in the beginning and use apple cider vinegar to rinse the hair to neutralize it, the hair will become smoother and easier to dry.
What do you think of the hardness of water affecting hair cleaning? Would distilled water be a better method since it is free of solids?
You should get a shower filter
How do you style your hair? There’s no way your towel dry your hair and it looks like that after… do you run some water through it?
I don't style it at all except by taking 10 seconds to neaten up strands or run my hands through it to put it back into shape
i am trying not to use shampoo, its been a couple of weeks and my hair is getting so curly.
Air dryers can be used on cold air as well so I think that's a good solution
I ran into this video 10 months ago. 10 months into no-poo, my hair feels thicker, and fuller. Now I realize how much of a scam the shampoo industry is 😂
I'm so glad to hear that brother... 😊
Would using a hairdryer on cold be fine, I have hair down to my mid back and it would be much easier if I could use a hairdryer
I stopped using shampoo for a couple months now but my hair is so dry and frizzy what do I do?
Should one do something special when they are going swimming regularly?
What about trips to the barber shop? Does the barber ever refuse to cut your hair unless it is first washed with shampoo?
Hi Garden of Aidan, how are you and what did you have for breakfast today?
This all sounds very promising but what about the smell? I cant seem to wrap my head around the fact that it wont smell as long as you dry it quick enough.
My hair doesn't smell unpleasant or strongly at all. If it did I would definitely not be doing this. Water is perfectly good for washing sweat out of your hair if that's what you're worried about. Remember that shampoo is a recent invention, it's not like everyone just had smelly hair until 100 years ago
What if I use hair gel, should I just wash it out with water?
I think they sell shampoo with animal based products like I know they make soap out of animal fat . Some farms may actually sell this kind of stuff
"shampoo seems like a necessary evil" then you failed the challenge simple as that, dont come back here spreading lies, shampoo is bad for u wether u like it or not
Wow man you are awesome! I will definitely quit all the products now
Ion know how y’all do it longest I went without shampooing my hair was 4 days my hair smelled bad like dogs hair I don’t know how you guys do it without your hair stinking ..If I knew how I would ..
