It was not announced that Nightwish would perform the Phantom both nights in Amsterdam, so it was a surprise for the crowd when Henk Poort came on stage. Many had forgot the promise Floor made in 2019. In a glimpse you also could see the smile on Tuomas face.
Floor and Henk did announce it, back in 2019, on Beste Zangers. And Nightwish has never refuted or canceled it.
I was there on the 27th and wasn't surprised at all.
But, even though I knew Henk was coming, I was still jumping up and down in my seat and screaming my lungs out!

They did try to keep this a surprise as much as they could. It definitely was not announced that this would happen prior to this specific show. They did not have it listed on the setlist. They didn’t play it in rehearsal, playing it only in their ears to check, so that anyone in the venue would not hear. This is what Floor said herself on social media, “Fun fact: We did soundcheck only using our in-ears so that people at the venue (working or not) would not know about the SURPRISE happening that night!”

@@kentk2215 And the fact that they were sound checking in a different way in the only country where there's a reason for such a deviation? Doesn't really take a genius to figure that one out.
Plus, the audience aren't present for the sound checks.
I'm fairly autistic, so for me it's really simple:
Are the members of Nightwish decent or are they the kind of people who, when the know nearly all the Dutch fans have been waiting and hoping for this for three years would just cancel or ignore it?
I choose to believe they are good and decent people, therefore, the Phantom was on the setlist.

Hello WrighteousJ. I'm glad to see you reacting to this really great performance where Floor and the whole band performed with Henk, barely a month after her successful breast cancer surgery. Lovely to witness and to hear. Thank you for this reaction and enjoy your upcoming gig.

Henk learned growling in 2019, for his and Floor's rendition of this song, at Beste Zangers. It was a surprise for her.
Floor had a musical crush on him, since she saw him as the phantom, in her youth. At Beste Zangers they immediately connected and became friends. She started the season with her rendition of "Vilja Lied", sung for him, as the very first song.
Most of the other singers didn't know her, just knew she was a Metal vocalist. Their faces, when she killed that song, from "The Merry Window"... Priceless...
Each and every of her performances from that show, is top notch and worth reacting to.
What can you say nightwish, floor jansen and Henk Port don't get any better God bless
These two nights will never be beaten - Floor and Henk absolutely performing a super version of the Phantom of the Opera - twice!!! Floor was unbelievable - and also so proud and happy.

This arrangement based on 2005 End of An Era version with Tarja and Marco (with serious growl), and reprised in 2019 Beste Zangers with Floor and Henk. Floor and Marco also do Ave Maria

He did the growling as a surprise to Floors Nightwish metal background at 'Beste Zangers', and she had a huge surprise smile on her face to that, after they only had one rehearsal..,without his growl. So I guess, singing with NW, promise fulfilled, there is the growling, and I love it. When Marco left, I said from the beginning, why not get Henk to replace him. Might be a surprising temporary career change, LOL.
I concur. I have said that too and got a bit swiped for it also, Tuomas would have a new canvas to work with. Just a thought. But maybe he'll write new material with Jukka K in mind, he can sing too. . . . . . .

Yeah it sounds a bit contradictory, but it was true. I was there that night. The promise was made so long ago most people in the audience didn't realise what was happening until the song started.... "OMG OFCOURSE, THE PHANTOM WITH HENK!" xD

Edit: I just checked the length of that final note, and it's a mind-boggling 11 seconds long! Floor still has it, is all I can say.
By the way, you need to check out Buenos Aires 2012, just to see how Floor has progressed from the beginning of her Nightwish career. You'll also be able to hear how she has gone from an unsure, insecure lead vocalist, to the one you just heard hold that note for 11 seconds.

We all simp for Floor. Fact! And many Dutch people kinda simp over Henk Poort as well. He's a household name. Well respected for decades. Floor simped for Henk when she was a young girl, when he played the Phantom in the Dutch version of the musical. So it was a dream of her to sing this with him. And now thanks to her, people around the world know him too! Crazy how that goes.

It was a surprise I sort of counted on because it was promised in Beste Zangers 2019.
this was after her surgery to be cancer free she was still recovering.
quick recap (most of this is public )she was DXed with breast cancer in October surgery was around Oct she had aprox 2 or 3 weeks recovery first time on stage November 20 2022 this was November 27 2022 as far as what is known the Nightwish Army is aware she had radiation in January just to keep cancer free and then went on a crusie and sang just as well

Just one week earlier in Antwerp she had to really fight to make it to the end of the performance without breaking down.

It was the first time in 17+ yrs that they performed this song. Marko was an awesome phantom, very gritty and aggressive, but he didn't like this song. So once Tarja left he said he didn't want to sing this anymore and he never did. It was not announced but once the first notes hit we knew Uncle Henk would be there, cause Troy wouldn't be able to sing this. It's hard to see in the video, but Tuomas was definitely conducting the other band members while playing keyboards, it was awesome to see how he did that. I had seen Floor and Henk perform this song in a slightly different arrangement at PinkPop, but seeing it with Nightwish was even better.🤘🏽🖤

Henk learned how to do distortion when he did Disturbed's Sound of Silence for Floor on Beste Zangers. Another one you should see!
Everyone is a simp when Floor the Valkyrie Queen sings, she's all woman. Henk growls in deference to Floors metal background, he's soo good. The Beste Zangers version is awesome too, more intimate.

The first night I was frontrow in front of Henk and the second night I was sitting next to Johanna (Tuomas partner)

2022 was one hell of a year, I saw Floor and Nightwish for the first time at Pinkpop. Later that year I went to a solo concert of Floor and was staying in the same hotel, so the next morning I had a liitle talk with her and a photo with her.
So 2022 is a year that I will allways remember.
@@marcell6915 Definitely an excellent year then! Seems crazy that she was barely known in the Netherlands before Beste Zangers. Having said that it would probably be the same here in the UK. As an example I don't suppose 95% of people here could actually name a member of Iron Maiden despite being one of Britain's biggest ever bands simply because they are not played on mainstream radio or tv.
This is so awesome. But for some reason, I prefer the version where she and Henk do this on the TV show Bestie Zangers.

Was there right at the front for both night they performed it. It was amazing. I saw Floor and Henk do this song a number of times on Floor's solo tour earlier, but with the addition of Nightwish it was a whole new experience.
Oh btw, Andrew Lloyd Webber (who wrote the musical) said Henk Poort was his favorite Phantom. #Proud

You should react to every song of the "Live in Amsterdam" concert Floor did almost 1 and a half years ago. Is a mix from Nightwish, After Forever and other songs relevant to Floor's history. Not only was the audience surprised (although some remembered the promise Floor made), also the staff of the venue had been kept in the dark by rehearsing with in-ear earphones instead of using the PA system. The growling Henk trained specifically on for their performance on Beste Zangers 2019, where they first did the duet. Apparently he's kept it in.
If you'd like to see Floor sing solo there is a full-length video of one of her solo shows where she covers a few Nightwish songs along with other cover songs. She is not in her "Nightwish persona" here so IMO I love this because she still commands the stage even without one of the best metal bands in the world behind her and proves that she can really do pretty much any kind of music. Have to agree with many other commenters here: I very much prefer the 'End of an Era' version with Marco and Tarja. It's also one of the definitive Marco performances, he slays it so hard that I always quip people come for Tarja and stay for Marco. Absolutely legendary performance!

From the opening credits it is obvious you are in great shape .. just saying at 11:14 those muscles are from hefting a shield at the battle line against Orcs .. we don't get a good look at the muscles in her right arm from hefting her war axe :)

The thing is more the arrangement they have chosen to play, it cuts off, where we aren't used to (and Henk wasn't neither :-). The one with Tarja is different and I prefer it. For the vocals both versions with Nightwish are really exceptional.

You claimed you're sucker for a storytelling (reaction to hollowed be thay name), Dio kills it in the Stargazer... you will have no regrets about it.
Although this was a great performance by both, one cannot ignore that the Tarja / Marko performance was better. To be fair, the song was written for their voices so naturally it worked better with them. Still, i really enjoyed this one too.
You should react to the original version with Tarja and Marko and give us your opinion.
That song was NOT written for neither Tarja, Marko, Henk or Floor. It was written for those who were in the musical, like Michael Crawford. in the role of, "The Phantom", and
Sarah Brightman in the role of "Christine". And Henk, who is the only one performing the musical himself is the closest to the original cast of the musical.
