Epic reaction Ashley! I have been enchanted, addicted, and obssessed with Floor Jansen and everything Nightwish every since I first heard their performance of GLS from Wacken 2013. The entire show is legendary in the history of metal concerts. There is so much more to experience. Get ahold of your emotions and hang on for the emotional rollercoaster ride. The journey into the world of Nightwish and symphonic metal will send chills up your spine and raise the hair on your arms. Probably also cause the occasional water works along the way. I will be back. Loved it!
Nightwish is always good, even if they do a cover song. Tuomas knows how to arrange a song in a masterful way, add a little NW magic and then it becomes a NW song... 😉😊
This is a phenomenal version!! You should check out the one with Tarja, the original singer in Nightwish to compare. Floor is my favorite singer they've had, but Tarja has a few performances that she was just made for. And Marko is killer doing the duet.
Welcome to the Nightwish family. Even though you are only two songs in, you are in for what will be one heck of a ride, through nearly 30 years of music, ten albums (a new one due late 2023) and three singers and promises to be an enjoyable one
The love and respect Floor & Henk have for each other; both as artists and as people is on full display here. The chemistry between them is undeniable. They are magic together. 💙💙💙All Hail Floor !! 💙💙💙 Infantryman-Nightwish Army. US Regiment. Kentucky Battalion RIP Ann Waychoff-Commanding General-Nightwish Army
Great reaction to a GREAT performance. She first did this song on the TV show Beste Zangers, among other great songs sung on otherworldly levels. If you want a couple songs that'll hit you like a truck in the feels, check out Floor doing "About love I don't know a thing," and the song "Winner." Both of them are AWESOME songs and you WILL need Kleenex, fair warning lol. Keep the greatness coming 🤘❤️
This performance will always have a special place in my heart. Becuase I was one of the lucky ones to witness this live. The feelings that I felt when they started playing this is hard to accurately describe. Because I got totally overwhelmed! And to share this experience sith 16999 other screaming Nightwish fans was incredibe, the atmosphere in that arena was pure magic! And Floor is a masterful singer. Those notes at the end are iconic and she does them real smart. Many singers put alot of power in all the notes while climbing. Bit Floor holds back on all of them and then gives the last note full power. This makes it pop even more and it also makes it easier for her to hold the note longer. And it is looong. Its a 13 second sustained straight tone note. That is not easy!
Since I heard FLOOR three years ago, She's become my Favorite Female. Gorgeous, Powerful, Ethereal VOICE. So Artistic & Multi-talented. She's the Best..and I've heard them ALL.
I am a fan of the song. I am born 1981 and I have heard so many versions. It is incredible. Getting goosebumps from the song and your reaction. My skin will pop away soon. 😂 Imagine when this was wrote. 1910. Wonder if they knew they had a original piece that everyone will still hear 2023?
Floor and Henk (who was the Dutch Phantom for many years) did this song together the first time on a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers - you should check that one out too. It's great.
Hello Ash. This is my third time watching you, but the first time I have contributed. Loved your genuine reaction and for your appreciation of the band. Floor celebrated ten years singing with Nightwish last December, although she didn't officially join until the Summer of 2013. She has brought stability and world-wide acclaim for both herself and the band, and I am proud to be a Nightwish fan. I look forward to watching you react to future NW performances and as of today, I have subscribed to your channel. Good luck to you and your channel. Kevin from near Stonehenge in England.
Imagine this chance meeting by these two phenomenal performers on a TV show of all things. I am not sure if Henk or Floor had ever heard each other until that show, but it formed a bond for sure. And it is a beautiful bond for sure!
a note: this was the first time in 17 years that Nightwish had performed "Phantom".....it was part of their "End of an Era" DVD, with their first singer, Tarja Turinen.....this audience had no idea that they were going to do it; also, Henk Poort as the Phantom had performed that role in the Dutch production for many years, he was also a surprise to the audience.....the metal arrangement of this was by the keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen the "Metal Mozart".....that 12 second E6, at the end, was supernatural
Ash: have you watched it before? Yes, dozens of times...there are more versions, one in Beste Zangers With Henk Poort and one with Tarja, the first singer. ( Floor is the third.)
Hoi Slashley, beautiful reaction! I was there. Is song was not on de playlist that night. 17 years ago Nightwish played it for the last time. I love Floor and Henk and Nightwish. This came as a great surprise to us!!❤
Nightwish is a band you can't go wrong listening to, so you have a lot to look forward to. In fact, I see your channel is new, meaning there's years worth of great music for you to discover You will never lack for suggestions, but I'm going to toss one in here anyway, and it's the song As I Am by the band Dream Theater. They are a Prog Metal band so most of their songs are fairly long, but As I Am is a good introduction, if you're not already familiar.
Since you liked this so much, listen to the first Nightwish cover of Phantom with their first vocalist and Marko, the bass player. ruclips.net/video/tL25rbnvM4o/видео.html
I am so jealous of every single person in that audience MANNNNNNNNNN. Coincidentally, the first song by Nightwish I came across years ago was them doing Phantom but with their first vocalist, Tarja. It blew my mind so hard I would go back and rewatch it constantly. Would love to see you react to that one too! :D You'll know which one it is if you see a vocalist in a stunning yellow dress and matching mic lol
To answer your questions: Yes, I have seen this performance before. I would also recommend that version that Hanke and Floor performed on Beste Zengers and also the version that Nightwish performed at their End of an Era concert (2005) with their original lead singer Tarja. Each version is different and awesome. Nightwish has stuff that is much softer and much harder. I would stick with the Wacken 2013 show for a bit and check out Storytime, then Romanticide.

Such a great reaction from you!! Check out the Pahntom from Floor and Henk on Beste Zangers, a Dutch TV show...and also, the version with the band's first singer, Tarja. Incredible performances, all.
Ash, how about trying a band of 3 sisters called The Warning? They are high-energy hard rock/metal, plus their 2nd album, _Queen of the Murder Scene,_ tells the story of a girl going from unrequited love to obsession, stalking, murder, and then the fight against her evil side for her soul. But start with 'Disciple', 'Evolve', or 'Animosity', either the official videos or the pro-shot live performances at Teatro Metropolitan. I'll bring The Warning Army.
This was such a good concert. I went both nights at the Ziggo dome. Saw them do it twice from like the second row. There's going to be a DVD from the entire show as they were filming the whole thing on both nights.
It's probably been mentioned before, but this version was something like 4 years in the making. Henk has played the Phantom in the Dutch version of The Phantom Of The Opera for something like 20? 25? years, and Floor is just... well, Floor. But on a show called Beste Zangers (Best Singers) in the Netherlands, Floor did a lightly metal version of this song with Henk as one of her "optionals" (ie a song that they want to do but didn't necessarily have to as part of the competition), and every other singer was sitting there going . So, the two made a pact that when timelines worked, when Nightwish was touring, and when close to or in the Netherlands, they'd do Nightwish's version of the song. It took a while for things to work out, but this is that concert when everything lined up. Fun fact: This was the first time in concert that Nightwish's version of Phantom was performed since End of an Era, the last concert that Tarja was a member of the band as the original singer in.
I found Nightwish just like you did. On RUclips performing Ghost Love Score. And over several years they have become my favorite band hands down. I was fortunate last year to catch a LIVE performance of them in Los Angeles. And just like you have alluded to, it was all walks of life convening on this night to hear something incredibly special. We were all talking pre concert asking to pinch one another so we could verify that we weren't in some sort of fever dream. That this night was really happening. It made the concert so much bigger. Glad you have found them. I am along for the ride.
I've watched and re-watched many a Nightwish live video, but this one was a first for me too. I liked it, but I can't say I loved it. I've yet to dislike a song with Floor and Nightwish really, they never fail to prod my emotions.
There is certain signature that Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) does making songs altough this song is not his. But cover song. If you have not seen his cover song of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. It is tribute to Pink Floyd, not a cover song. That good Tuomas is.
@@SlashleyReacts Maybe a double reaction, the original and then the tribute? Here is a version of the original ruclips.net/video/-xveqYrKJTE/видео.html Here is the tribute ruclips.net/video/4oEDnVeYYyM/видео.html
Hi Ashley! Great reaction! Hank Poorte actually played the Phantom in the Dutch edition. I was also wondering if you know of Iron Maiden and their stage shows. They are not only great musicians, but they can definitely get the audience involved. They've been around since 75, and even in their 60s, they can still rock out seriously. If you decide to check them out, check out the live version of Fear of the Dark. Talk about crowd participation. Rock on! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
The guy that sings the male part here is henk poort who played the phantom in the original musical in the netherlands. Floor is also from the netherlands too.
Nightwish has what I think of as bookend performances of this song. Both are absolutely fabulous. This show is fairly recent - the other bookend is from 2005, featuring their first singer, Tarja, and the bass player, Marko (as the original Phantom with the border-psycho voice). The link to the earlier performance is on Gabriel Bardac's list (in the comments from your GLS reaction). Whether you react to it on RUclips or not, it is well worth a listen.
That's love! Henk learned to use distortion just to sing for Floor on Bezte Zangers. But actually for his performance of the Disturbed version of Sounds of Silence.
The story in short: Nightwish did this song before 2005 with their first singer Tarja and base player and singer Marko. The up-beat is a true Nightwish invention. The band did not play Phantom lateron, but fall 2019 a Dutch TV show did a presentation of "the best singers" in which both Floor and Henk Poort participated. From that, a duet resulted, for Floor had always admired Henk because of his long-year singing in the Phantom shows. Floor brought in the Nightwish up-beat and Henk tried out some gritting. The duet was a massive success. Then Covid came along and Nightwish and all other shows were cancelled. When things cleared up Floor asked Henk if he would do the duet again with her. He agreed but wanted to feature in a Nightwish concert. Hence....

Much as I love the Beste Zangers intimate version, can't beat the full on Nightwish! (last time was 2005?). 11 seconds on the very last bit, WOW.
Whilst you were talking about opera, it made me think of another group of artists called Igorrr. (Calling them a band or a group just doesn’t feel right). It’s taken me 3 years to get to where I absolutely love and appreciate them for how out of the box they are. The only problem I have is deciding where to point you. I decided on Opus Brain with their last vocalist, Laure Le Prunenec. They’re French, but they’re not sing in French. Apparently, it’s a made up language (but isn’t all language made up?). When you talked about being able to talk about music forever, I totally get that. I can to, especially if it makes me feel things, even when I can’t understand them. If I love something, I can talk about them or it for a long time, and can get evangelical about it. But at least I don’t go knocking on doors on Saturday mornings. I hope that you will come to love opera… the metropolitan opera has a program “live in HD” where the met along with select theaters will broadcast an opera. It is close to being there and you get to meet other opera lovers. Hopefully a theater near you does this.
As said before, the Phantom of the Opera is musical theatre. Which fits nicely. Floor had a solid education in musical theatre. She can do full-on opera, but she did not like it too much. (See her performing o mio babbino caro on Dutch TV, it is on youtube). But it is not her forte. Her forte is Rock, metal and musical theatre. Henk was the Dutch phantom of the opera for many years and Floor has a adored him as a singer from her teenage years. Even Andrew-Lloyd Webber was impressed by Henk. The main difference is that in opera, you have to sing louder (no microphone, full on orchestra, or the microphone is far away).
You shouls totally watch Floor on the dutch TV show "Beste Zangers" performing the german song "Vilja Lied". It's from the opera The Merry Widow. As said, that is a TV show, where the best singers from the netherlands meet and perform songs from each other or songs close to them. That was where Floor met Henk Port for the first time. He is a dutch singer, who actually played the phantom in the dutch production. Floor was a huge fan if henk since her childhood and Vilja Lied was a Song his mother sung to him, when he was a child. Almost no one on that show really knew what Floor is capable of. They only knew she sings in a metal band. And well, she blew their minds with a rock version of that old german aria. Since then Floor and Henk supported each other on several occasions. The video you just watched was one of this moments. I've seen Nightwish at the end of last year live for the first time. It was freaking unbelievable! They're really that amazing!
For something different check out Tommy Johansson doing Phantom and singing both parts . Tommy is a friend of Floor's and has performed on her solo covers . He is also the lead guitarist of Sabaton , for whom Floor's husband is the drummer. The Euro metal scene is close-knit!
Hello Ash, only found Nightwish a few years ago and would have loved to be at the concert in Wacken in 2013. Have a listen to the Poet and the Pendulum with the lyrics on. Blow your mind. From Brisbane in Australia. Have a listen to Within Temptation too, many great songs like Angels and Sinead.
If you enjoyed this wait till you hear Marco as the Phantom. Henk did ok, let's not forget that metal is not his genre. But I said he did ok, till the "sing for me" parts. Now go listen to Marco and Tarja from the "end of an era", although she didn't know it, Tarjas last performance with Nightwish.

Tarja and Annette both brought great voices to the table. Imho Nightwish has had three fantastic vocalists but Floor is just downright incredible!
Welcome to the Nightwish family. Even though you are only two songs in, you are in for what will be one heck of a ride, through nearly 30 years of music, ten albums (a new one due late 2023) and three singers and promises to be an enjoyable one
WOW! that was sooooooooooooooo good! And omfg how emotional was that??? I loved it! 💗
Right!?!?!? I love itt
The love and respect Floor & Henk have for each other; both as artists and as people is on full display here. The chemistry between them is undeniable. They are magic together.

Hearing Henk throw in that growl for Floor always brings a smile to my face. I love it.
Floor Jansen is AMAZING....she is absolutely stunning.... she can easily be an operatic singer. Best rock rendition ever!!!!
For over 50 years, good music has been my only drug.
I was there......🤩 amazing show
REALLLY!?!?
I am a fan of the song. I am born 1981 and I have heard so many versions. It is incredible.
Getting goosebumps from the song and your reaction. My skin will pop away soon. 😂
Imagine when this was wrote. 1910. Wonder if they knew they had a original piece that everyone will still hear 2023?
she is amazing ,it's been more than 10 years that she is my diva......i can die happy knowing her beautiful voice!
Hey, Slashley. This is such an awesome performance and a wonderful reaction by you. As our lovely Martine said, Chills and pure joy. Loved it.
This is possibly the 100th time I have watched this .. still makes me happy
Love to hear it!!!
Ash: have you watched it before? Yes, dozens of times...there are more versions,
one in Beste Zangers With Henk Poort and one with Tarja, the first singer. ( Floor is the third.)
My knowledge of nightwish continues to grow! Thank you!!!
This is my favourite one! More operatic !
The pure joy on your face was something to behold!
To answer your questions:
Yes, I have seen this performance before.
@@Erfedwe I just love music. So having anything that can get me smiling... like this.. ill be cheesin like crazy!!

There's going to be a DVD from the entire show as they were filming the whole thing on both nights.
i can't forget the wonderful Phantom Marko gave us, but hell this show is so freaking good, the more I see it the more I like it.
Omg... HIGH HOPES!?!?!?!? yess!
I concur

Ashley, I was there too, and my life is complete... 🤣 Keep the NW train rolling!
the singers name is Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen)), and the chills you are getting are called 'Floorgasms'. get ready for a lot more of them 😉
Rock on! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
My parents saw Phantom of the Opera in the 90s in Toronto, Paul Stanley of Kiss was the Phantom
Hey beautyfull!!! Hank is amazing. But Floor is from another planet. Good reaction. Greettings from Argentina
Nightwish - Storytime Waken 2013 ;)
The guy that sings the male part here is henk poort who played the phantom in the original musical in the netherlands. Floor is also from the netherlands too.
Floor.....defies catagory...Floor is. This was an amazing performance.
Good one. Floor and Henk also did this on Beste Zangers 2019
Floor originally did this on Beste Zangers. Seek and ye shall find....
Outstanding performance! Still, I have to say my favorite version of this song is with Tarja and Marko singing. They are both incredible shows!
But actually for his performance of the Disturbed version of Sounds of Silence.
really?!
@@SlashleyReacts yes, he had never sung like that before. He's classicly trained and have done the part in Phantom of the opera many times.
This performance was just after her cancer treatment too, Floor is an absolute legend.
Hence....
Of course now you have to continue down the rabbit hole (most these are all live):

The greatest show on Earth is also a favorite of Nightwish army. Just pick anything from Nightwish live or anything from the floor. Have a great day your friend in Oregon Mike.
Phantom is one of my favorites
I want my tears back now is a great Nightwish song. Every dream is incredible. Story time is mind boggling just pick any Nightwish or floor Jansen live song and you will fall in love with her even more your friend in Oregon Mike.
If my math serves me right that show was one of the last Floor did before revealing that she is expecting her second child. Now in the vids we can see her rocking at 5 months pregnant. If you check Epica ft Floor performing Terra Sancta Simone Simons was also pregnant and rocking as always. This queens are something else.
You simply MUST check out their older rendition of this one, with original vocalists Tarja and Marko, from the 2005 End of an Era concert.
Phantom of the opera is not a opera. It is a musical ! Have a great day your friend in Oregon Mike you’re gonna love your Nightwish ride.
Oh I know 😂
I made a mistake that has been corrected! Appreciate it! Have a great one!!!

Apparently this wasn't on the set list, they kept it as a surprise.
The welcoming onto the stage, her youths idol.

He does a growly bit for Floor!
Much as I love the Beste Zangers intimate version,
can't beat the full on Nightwish! (last time was 2005?).
11 seconds on the very last bit, WOW.
I was there and it was amazing❤
LOL. “Have you accepted Jinjer (or igorrr) into your life?”

With Floor’s talent, only a true original Phantom could be a match.
Great reaction!
You definitively should check out their original cover of this song live in 2005 with the original lead vocalist Tarja Turunen and their former bassist and vocalist Marko Hietala, its insane!
Doesn't have to be a reaction, just make sure you check it out😉
Hands down my favorite version. Marko is the best Phantom I’ve ever heard.
Yes, for sure. I think Floor is awesome but I looooove Tarja
Tarja is still the best!!
I saw her sing this with Henk Poort on Beste Zangers but I haven't seen him sing this with her and NIghtwish until now. They are so good, but Floor is just phenomenal.
Can't wait to see your impressions when you get to Saphath - Spider Queen's Call. It's a special track and video the band did together with ex-Cradle of Filth guitarist for last Halloween:)
Great reaction. Love Nightwish! If you want, you can react to a Swedish band called Sabaton. Floor Jansen husband is the drummer and they are also amazing!!!
Henk poort did a cover of Sound of silence , it's absolutely magnificent.
As far as Floor is concerned you haven’t even begun to hear what she can do.
I hope that you will come to love opera… the metropolitan opera has a program “live in HD” where the met along with select theaters will broadcast an opera. It is close to being there and you get to meet other opera lovers. Hopefully a theater near you does this.
I actually really look forward to going to one!!!
I would've loved to have seen/ heard her sing this with Marko, but Henk did great too.
For something different check out Tommy Johansson doing Phantom and singing both parts .
Tommy is a friend of Floor's and has performed on her solo covers .
He is also the lead guitarist of Sabaton , for whom Floor's husband is the drummer.
The Euro metal scene is close-knit!
Henk Poort played the Phantom in the Netherlands performance of PotO.
Phantom the ultimate edition :)
I recommend to check out NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE) . Nightwish end of an era concert with Tarja Turunen and Marko Hietala.
Thanks
Floor and Henk Poort at beste zangers she did a couple of songs there. Its with english subs 😉
Uggghh I need more!!
