It's amazing how the show portrayed suicide in his final moments. People who have decided to end their lives usually have this final moment of epiphany and bliss, which is why many people are like "But he/she was so happy" when they do end it all. You can see that personality shift in him after he finally decides to end it in front of his statue. He spends the entire day watching porn after porn, and when infiltrating the tower, he's the most excited of all. In the end, this show may just want to be a thriller comedy, and I'm sure we're not supposed to feel bad for lamplighter as much as we are supposed to be shocked by his actions, but damn man, it really pulls on the heartstrings.
No your half right, he was watching porn, because after he was pardoned by Grace Mallory, he FELT all his grief he was holding over the years was finally off his chest. He was then looking for Action/thrill/mission whatever you wanna call it. Watching porn was his way of trying to enjoy but that was not doing it for him. So when he went in the rescue mission with hugie and saw they removed his statue & realised people valued him so little for the things he did. He finnally understood he only wanted to make his dad proud and spent all his life doing that. There never was a character Lamp Lighter, that person in the show was just mirroring what his dad wanted to do what the supe team wanted to do what Vought wanted him to do. When he realised that, Death was better then continuing the life he never choose to have.
