I sold to Plato's closet for the first time about a month ago and was SHOCKED when they offered me $178 for around 50 items. These were my bottom tier inventory that I had gotten for free and have been sitting in my Posh closet for the last 3 years, I was so glad to see them go! I decided to purge more. We have a Style Encore currently buying to open up a new store and I took them 9 boxes/totes of my stale inventory. They paid me $978! $978?!?!?!?! I'm still not over it haha and am currently downsizing my closet once again because why wouldn't I? I will absolutely be adding buy/sell/trade stores to my regular business practices!
Another thing I am always mindful of is which stores do I think price their items high. $15 H&M dress isn't a terribly good deal but for the person who sold it, they got 4-5 dollars for that item. So for me, I shop at the Plato's about 10 minutes from me, but I sell to the one across town. Plato's also tends to take anything with tags on it so anything NWT I find at the bins, I grab.
Thanks so much and I wish you good sales from bins to Plato’s!! It’s been a great addition to my business and hey, you’re already at the bins so why not :)
Hello Christin! I found you on today's 'Let's get listing" youtube show w/ Angie Resells and Rural Squirrel! I just subscribed and look forward to watching all your videos! You shared some incredible tips..I, too take advantage of a local large BST Consignment Store.
Thanks for the follow, watch, AND comment!! Super appreciate the love from the reselling community, and hope to find it’s a global thing too! See you around :)
I am just about ready to try and clear out my inventory like this!! I cant believe you're moving to AUSTRALIA! cant wait to hear more about that. these were great tips thanks for sharing
Thanks so much and good luck to you at Plato’s!! Australia is so far fantastic but lots to learn in my new reselling ventures, hits and misses happening daily!
I do well with As We Grow, a children's BST, but never do well with Plato's. I've even tried calling ahead to ask what they are looking for. But, the two in my area are so overstocked they only take a couple things they thing will do really well.
That’s too bad, is it too many sellers but not enough shoppers? They keep the racks full at my location but there are shoppers and sales every time I go in. Across from the mall makes it easy for shoppers who aren’t old enough to drive too!
Wow-I agree with you that this is definitely a great way to make some quick cash! Though I know they don’t resell for much online, I can’t resist a cute mall brand at the bins, especially if it’s new with tags! I haven’t tried to sell at Plato’s for years, but with your awesome tips, I might have to give it another try! Thank you for sharing!😊
thank you! I’ve never gotten an itemized receipt when selling at plato’s. I always did just my old clothes but now that i’m getting into reselling I definitely want to know how much I made on each item
Thank you so much for the info. I have only known of consignment stores where I leave my items and only get paid if they sale. I did not know taking them to a place where they buy my items outright is a possibility. Maybe this isn't as available in my area, or maybe I just wasn't aware
I do not launder all items, no. If it needed a stain treatment, repair, or was too good to pass on even with an odor then yes it goes home and gets special treatment. Buy Sell Trade stores have a policy against stinky clothes, so everything I brought in passed that test, and they steam the items as the hang. Thanks for watching and for the ask!
How many hours are you spending at the bins versus the profit you are making selling to them? Are you at the bins for eight hours to make $100 in profit for example?
Great question. I was spending 1 morning a week at the Bins to source for ALL of my items to be listed online for the week, so roughly 4 hours, and while I was there I started to keep an eye out for items that could flip same day or next week to the Plato's. I would never go sourcing with the intention to only find items that gain a low profit, though that might work for some who have goals that align with that model, I was instead making more use out of my hours already there by diversifying my platforms based on what inventory was already showing as available. Prior to discovering Plato's, I would pass on these fast fashion lower end and mall brands in most cases, and they are prevalent in the bins location I I most frequented. I hope that makes sense now when I say I could source for 4 hours and make more than what the Plato's profit would be, that is just an immediate flip requiring little investment (of money, time, or gas) and put more cash back into business while longer online flips were processed.
I let them know that I was a reseller and wanting to bring in the items they are currently looking for, and they handed it over so I could snap a photo! I did this regularly and sometimes they’d alert me that their needs (and the list) had been updated before I remembered to ask. I would definitely ask yours, the worst that can happen is they say no.
Goodwill Outlet is a clearance store that sells by weight instead of individual pricing, and they refer to it as The Bins because everything is rolled out in removable bins instead of on shelves or hanger racks. It’s quite an experience!
I only remove thrift tags but leave any store tags, new items from Target for example are sold off to Goodwills in my area - keep Target tags, remove Goodwill price tag. (If you’re asking about the inner tag with year made, I don’t bother, I just don’t try to sell them anything older than 3 years, style usually gives it away) Thanks watching!
I never had Plato’s request my tax ID but I do have one, as well as a business license and resellers license for Washington State. I only ever needed it for taxes.
I have hundreds of beautiful purses I have taken them in and was shocked the horrible offers for my Michael Kors ,Coaches ,Kate Spades , I wish I could find a reseller in Southern California that could just buy them all As I am 84 and do not get out so they just sit here .
Sorry to hear that! Their payouts are not big because they also keep their prices lower, especially when located near a competitive area (like a mall) or in a university area where customers have smaller budgets. They pay upfront instead of on consignment which is usually a smaller payout because they also take the risk of it not selling. Finding a reseller to work with sounds like a good idea! You can expect to take home 40-50% of profits if working on consignment from my experience, and you can ask that prices not drop below a certain price point when negotiating with your reseller / consignor. An upfront buyout will be less, but you can get all items gone at once and have the cash in hand. Good luck to you!
@@WellREDWardrobe No they have bad purses tore up selling for over a $100 mine are in excellent condition Coach ,Michael Kors and not MiChael Michael ....Versage ,Even a LV They tried to offer me $8 each they are aful
Would you give it a go??? This is my new favorite addition to online reselling.

Can’t go wrong with new with tags, that’s the best bins price pickup!
Wonderful video! I pass on so many fast fashion items at the bins that are so cute. I’m going to give this a try! Good luck with your move!

I’m just leaving Plato’s. You’re right. They only take juniors and teens clothes. And only 18 months in fashion dates.
this is great and helpful, thank you!!

I just question the “going straight to Plato’s” from the bins. Is that literal?
I’m wondering about whether you launder the items first.
I do not launder all items, no. If it needed a stain treatment, repair, or was too good to pass on even with an odor then yes it goes home and gets special treatment. I guess Plato's closet is going to get busy this week lol.

What are these bins you speak of?
Goodwill Outlet

which tags do you cut?

What do you do when they ask for your tax identification number because you sold too much?
I never had Plato’s request my tax ID but I do have one, as well as a business license and resellers license for Washington State. I only ever needed it for taxes.

Plato’s is not the right place for designer bags. Maybe try clothes mentor which is for an older group. The young people prefer shein bags
I thought they want you to wash all your items before bringing it in???
Im not judging, maybe you have a higher class bins, but i can't imagine taking clothing straight from the books ANYWHERE without washing it first
