Maybe you should have adjusted the dial to full max speed, because it lessens the sensitivity and intensity of your handling, while decreasing acceleration, that's how you're mostly supposed to play GX.

They should have remade the Oracle games and included them in this as a bundle. $60 for a remake of 3 games is a lot easier to justify than full price for one. Plus the Oracle games used the same engine as Link's Awakening so I don't know why this wasn't done.

Until BotW came out (I don't like BotW), MM was my least favorite 3D Zelda because of the things you mentioned as well as the time mechanic to an extent, but I still love the game because of what you can do in it
Johnny’s point about fleshing out the story of Link’s Awakening makes me think that this remake should have gone the route of the recent Resident Evil remakes. Doing this would’ve not only fixed the gameplay shortcomings in the Game Boy and Game Boy Color releases, but it also would’ve been an opportunity to make the story even more impactful (and maybe then, it would’ve been worth that $60 price tag)!
I pretty much picked up the game at walmart which is convenient since I happen to work there plus I was able to take advantage of my employees discount. While yes the 60 dollars does seem a bit much I think one major difference from the Crash and Spyro remasters that was a likely factor is that LA on Switch is more or less rebuilt from the ground up whereas with The Spyro Reignited Trilogy they essentially were able to port and convert most of the assets, data, and level geometry from the original games using a specialized tool called Spyroscope. With Links Awakening remember you are essentially looking at what was originally an entirely 2D sprite based game from a much older system being translated entirely into 3D. Don't forget either that new Game Boy games back then typically cost 30-40 dollars As for the framerate they could probably easily fix it in a patch since its most likely some optimization hiccups. I like how even though this review is only 10 minutes long, you pretty much covered all of the bases, unlike other reviewers who griped on the graphic style for too long. Admittedly, I did shell out the $60 on this game if only because I loved Link's Awakening that much and wanted to see a remake of other titles done in that style, and because it came with cute lil' pins.
Side note: Unlike the previous versions of this game, you can get whatever you traded for the boomerang back by paying a certain amount of rupees. For example, Shovel costs 300 rupees to get back. Don't know if the price is the same for other items or if it's different. First instinct from the DX version on Game Boy Color told me to swap the Shovel for the Boomerang. Of course in that game the whole point of the Shovel was to get the key to the third dungeon.
To be fair with the pricing, the original Link's Awakening's price on release (Adjusted for inflation) is $57 so if you were willing you get it before, this is a much better version. I also don't agree with basing a game's value on its length- some games are 10-20 hour adventures, others are RPG's that can last you hundreds of hours, but what matters is quality. Link's Awakening remake is a great game no matter how much you're willing to pay for it. Though I will admit I've been pouring all my time into DragonQuest 11 on the switch and thats a game where you get not only quality for your dollar, but if time-per-dollar matters to you, DQ11 is a winner.
i think i might have missed the whole photograph sidequest back when i first played Link's awakening when i was a kid. Granted i wasnt a completionist back then too, so young me probably just ran to dungeons and did as much as he could and call it a day.
Looks like a solid remake. You do make an interesting point about the price. I didn't think $60 was bad, but I also hadn't considered the high quality Crash and Spyro remakes that were multiple games in one.
The framerate is fine. Only briefly jumping to 30fps is far more fluent than constantly going to 40-50fps or having a locked 30. In fact, I probably wouldn't have bought the game if it locked at 30. Also: in my opinion, it's definitely worth the price for those who have yet to play Link's Awakening as it's basically a new experience then
As someone that hasn’t played the original yet, playing the remake was just… fantastic. I loved the world, items, characters, art style, and sound design. For my money, Link’s Awakening’s remake was a little slice of heaven and I love it to bits. I do agree that selling it for $60 was a bit much, and it would have been fine at that price if they also remade the Oracle games in the same way and bundled it as a trilogy. Speaking of which, I really hope they do remake those titles for the Switch just like they did with Link’s Awakening. And then I want a full blown brand new 2D overhead Zelda title for the system. I think it’s high time we finally got another one.
So I heard in some videos that the FPS issue could be a solvable issue since it seems to be a memory handling problems as in the game seems to have an error with how it loads the game, so it's not so much the amount of enemies but how it handles the loading of information. Apparently, if you play the game with it being installed in the SD instead of using a cartridge, the FPS issue is less frequent.
FINALLY someone talks about the high price in their review. Back in 2016 or 17 I read a comic joking about nintendo making handheld game with console prices and it finally happened. But why they should worry? No reviews talks about it and people buy it anyway just like happened with the online service >=( I mean, Breath of the Wild has tons of more things to do and is the same price

The comments on the whole remake price point, it really vibes with me on mainly the FFVII "Remake", that is altering the storyline in fundamentally fucked ways that makes the whole story fall apart if you know it, AND it's also not a full game, more like a part 1 of howeverfuckingmany... It's deceptive, and I can imagine MANY newcomers blindly buying it and thinking of it like it's a 1 to 1 Remake for real, when it's a lie to call it that in general. It's not even over the fucking gameplay change, that aspect is fine enough, but when the story itself is being fundamentally fucked with deeply AND its incomplete, not even telling you its an episode 1 or part 1, just "Final Fantasy VII Remake"... What the fuck is someone gonna take that as?.. It's just shitty and comes off as a blatantly bad ripoff like FFXV and Dissidia NT both were... And NOW we also have the Demon's Souls remake on PS5 for $70 outright, which is ABSURD especially, since it is a 1:1 remake that incorporates quality of life improvements along with better graphics... But is that really worth being $70? I don't think so...
Considering he's only done the Budokai Tenkaichi trilogy and Dragon Power on the NES, I don't think he will unless he does the Xenoverse duology and FighterZ.
I will say this. As Iv only just finshed the game for the 1st time and it also being my 1st ever Zelda Title.....I can easily say its the best Zelda for new beginners and because of this and Watching Johnny's Videos this makes me want to try the rest

It's not just you Johnny: I never finished the original game largely because of the game's technical limitations, and the switch remake was my first time finishing it.
I personally loved the music in this game. I think it's a great remix of the original. Especially the ending credits sound. May be my favourite "old school" Zelda soundtrack. Again, as this sort of thing needs to be constantly stressed, that's just my opinion.
The way I look at it when i buy games... If I spend £50 on the game, and I play with for at least 5 hours or more, I've 100% had my moneys worth. If I don't hit the 5 hours after spending £50 then I'll feel shitty and annoyed. Imo 60$ for a 8-10 hour game is acceptable, however I can understand why you'd disagree as like Johnny said in the review it's a remake. It shouldn't cost nearly as much as full retail. The Crash Remake(s) got it right with cutting the price to almost half.

Majora’s Mask is like 80% side quests, which get boring fast and the masks you get give you basically nothing besides making the final battle a joke.

@@AdoltheFox Ok I'll give you that. What I meant was Seasons having better characters and plot. (Also fun fact: If you do the password thing from Ages to Seasons, you unlock that dance minigame in Seasons)
I like how even though this review is only 10 minutes long, you pretty much covered all of the bases, unlike other reviewers who griped on the graphic style for too long. Admittedly, I did shell out the $60 on this game if only because I loved Link's Awakening that much and wanted to see a remake of other titles done in that style, and because it came with cute lil' pins.
Side note: Unlike the previous versions of this game, you can get whatever you traded for the boomerang back by paying a certain amount of rupees. For example, Shovel costs 300 rupees to get back. Don't know if the price is the same for other items or if it's different. First instinct from the DX version on Game Boy Color told me to swap the Shovel for the Boomerang. Of course in that game the whole point of the Shovel was to get the key to the third dungeon.
I don't get why people complain about 8-10h games. That is the perfect time for me.

To be fair with the pricing, the original Link's Awakening's price on release (Adjusted for inflation) is $57 so if you were willing you get it before, this is a much better version. I also don't agree with basing a game's value on its length- some games are 10-20 hour adventures, others are RPG's that can last you hundreds of hours, but what matters is quality. Link's Awakening remake is a great game no matter how much you're willing to pay for it. Though I will admit I've been pouring all my time into DragonQuest 11 on the switch and thats a game where you get not only quality for your dollar, but if time-per-dollar matters to you, DQ11 is a winner.

i think i might have missed the whole photograph sidequest back when i first played Link's awakening when i was a kid. Granted i wasnt a completionist back then too, so young me probably just ran to dungeons and did as much as he could and call it a day.

Looks like a solid remake. You do make an interesting point about the price. I didn't think $60 was bad, but I also hadn't considered the high quality Crash and Spyro remakes that were multiple games in one.
$60 was definitely too much for me, but when I saw that the game was on sale for $45 at Best Buy during Black Friday month, I had to snap it up.

The framerate is fine. Only briefly jumping to 30fps is far more fluent than constantly going to 40-50fps or having a locked 30. In fact, I probably wouldn't have bought the game if it locked at 30. Also: in my opinion, it's definitely worth the price for those who have yet to play Link's Awakening as it's basically a new experience then

As someone that hasn’t played the original yet, playing the remake was just… fantastic. I loved the world, items, characters, art style, and sound design. For my money, Link’s Awakening’s remake was a little slice of heaven and I love it to bits.
I do agree that selling it for $60 was a bit much, and it would have been fine at that price if they also remade the Oracle games in the same way and bundled it as a trilogy. Speaking of which, I really hope they do remake those titles for the Switch just like they did with Link’s Awakening. And then I want a full blown brand new 2D overhead Zelda title for the system. I think it’s high time we finally got another one.

So I heard in some videos that the FPS issue could be a solvable issue since it seems to be a memory handling problems as in the game seems to have an error with how it loads the game, so it's not so much the amount of enemies but how it handles the loading of information.
Apparently, if you play the game with it being installed in the SD instead of using a cartridge, the FPS issue is less frequent.
I did that and it still chugs in all those scenarios.

FINALLY someone talks about the high price in their review. Back in 2016 or 17 I read a comic joking about nintendo making handheld game with console prices and it finally happened. But why they should worry? No reviews talks about it and people buy it anyway just like happened with the online service >=(

The comments on the whole remake price point, it really vibes with me on mainly the FFVII "Remake", that is altering the storyline in fundamentally fucked ways that makes the whole story fall apart if you know it, AND it's also not a full game, more like a part 1 of howeverfuckingmany... It's deceptive, and I can imagine MANY newcomers blindly buying it and thinking of it like it's a 1 to 1 Remake for real, when it's a lie to call it that in general. It's not even over the fucking gameplay change, that aspect is fine enough, but when the story itself is being fundamentally fucked with deeply AND its incomplete, not even telling you its an episode 1 or part 1, just "Final Fantasy VII Remake"... What the fuck is someone gonna take that as?.. It's just shitty and comes off as a blatantly bad ripoff like FFXV and Dissidia NT both were... And NOW we also have the Demon's Souls remake on PS5 for $70 outright, which is ABSURD especially, since it is a 1:1 remake that incorporates quality of life improvements along with better graphics... But is that really worth being $70? I don't think so...

I will say this. As Iv only just finshed the game for the 1st time and it also being my 1st ever Zelda Title.....I can easily say its the best Zelda for new beginners and because of this and Watching Johnny's Videos this makes me want to try the rest

I personally loved the music in this game. I think it's a great remix of the original. Especially the ending credits sound. May be my favourite "old school" Zelda soundtrack. Again, as this sort of thing needs to be constantly stressed, that's just my opinion.
The way I look at it when i buy games... If I spend £50 on the game, and I play with for at least 5 hours or more, I've 100% had my moneys worth. If I don't hit the 5 hours after spending £50 then I'll feel shitty and annoyed.
Imo 60$ for a 8-10 hour game is acceptable, however I can understand why you'd disagree as like Johnny said in the review it's a remake. It shouldn't cost nearly as much as full retail. The Crash Remake(s) got it right with cutting the price to almost half.
